    Salsa bar.

I stumbled across Mother's Tacos while I was in Ventura, and I have to say, I was impressed. They're located in the Gasworks complex, and there's plenty of parking, which made stopping in really easy. The tacos were really tasty, and I loved that they make their tortillas fresh in-house. The salsa bar had a great selection, and they even serve a whole grilled onion with your meal and offer whole grilled chilies as a condiment--such a nice touch. They also have a variety of agua frescas, plus a station where they make fresh, homemade churros. The prices were reasonable, especially for the quality and portions. I'd definitely stop here again the next time I'm'm passing through Ventura.

Great menu. I don't think you can go wrong with anything. Items you would expect to see with a little more taste and flair. Order at the counter. The day we went the girl taking the orders was also bartender. Made for a longer wait. She was amazing though! Nice selection of non-alcohol drinks. Classics.

5/5 - I can't believe I hadn't updated my review. What a terrible yelper. Mothers helmed by head Chef Cuevas now has tacos al pastor en trompo! Sad to learn they no longer had ribeye tacos. Those seriously my fave but it's ok. I love tacos period and Mothers is always a great choice with their menu updates so I know I can count on tasty food regardless! Most recently, I had the suadero, al pastor and asada. My fave? The suadero! The churros for dessert with your choice of dipping sauce are so good. The marg didn't disappoint either! I have visited multiple times and they just celebrated their one year! We love the vibes. Staff is so warm. It feel like at friend's casita as soon as I walk it. Always greeted and acknowledged. Amazing customer service. They do get really busy at times but I'm not in a rush when I dine out. I go to enjoy myself and have good food. Also... the people complaining about prices are a bit nuts. Who says great quality Mexican food is cheap. This idea that Mexican food is cheap just because it's Mexican is pure craziness. Mother's uses good quality ingredients, no seed oils and they source local products. They work with local bakeries and shop at local farm markets. love that they as a business support local too. Counter service - order up front, get a number & wait for your food at your table :) They call your number and you pick it up. Chill but such a nice space. I've attend different events from a night market to their anniversary party, always a great time. Parking is limited, so when I can't find parking a park a few streets away but I do not mind walking.

WOW! This place is amazing and the service is great, had to come back twice. I came in with my friend and we ordered a couple tacos plus their corn. Everything was soooooooo good! Tortillas are fresh, meat is fresh & on top of that, the salsas on the table are really good. Would recommend for anyone that's in town, def a place you want to check out.

Let's start with the good, the ambiance was nice, bathroom was clean and staff was wonderful. I went for my husband bday which was also on their 1 year anniversary. I'm not sure it my visit took a turn because it was the anniversary or what but we got there around 2:30pm, the waiter told us the happy hour was from 3-6pm if we wanted wait. We left and came back at 3:15pm. I asked for the happy hour menu and the waitress told me that it didn't start till 6pm and the waiter who told me had gone home, long story short she honored the happy hour prices. Due to it being the anniversary the elote wasn't being served. I asked for more horchata which they said they were out of till later. When we got the food, most of it was over salted. The chicharróns and dirt papas were too salty to finish. Even adding the salsas didn't temper down the salt or added flavor or spice to the food. The asada taco was the best thing we had. We also got 2 churros. I feel like they were to thick an not done all of the way through. Also heard they had an Oreo churros for later that day too. I'll give it another try because I really wanted the all the Mother's smoke and am hoping what I experienced was a one time situation. We will have to see...

I don't know about you.... But I am a SUCKER for a Good Story... And Mother's story, Got Me! First and Foremost, I want to dedicate this review to my own Mother, Ma as I call her, whom I look up to, who I cherish and who I can ALWAYS count on even as a 42 year old grown man. Thank you Ma for your all you do for me and my own familia. You are a great Mother and an even better Grandma to my 3 beautiful girls.... "Your Hitas" And to All Moms reading this.... Know that you are Incredible and you should be so proud of the difference you make in your children's lives Every. Single. Day. ------------ok let's do this--------------- So here's how it went down at Mother's Ventura... After doing our Christmas family photo shoot in neighboring Oxnard this past November, we continued on to Ventura after my wife said, "Hey, Lets go grab lunch in Ventura, I found a new spot I wanna try out" Hey, the girl has never steered me around before so I'm following her lead. And when I found out it was Mexican food.... Let's just say the gas pedal went a little bit closer to the floorboard. As we pulled into the shared parking lot, I could already tell by the amount of the cars in the lot that the place was going to be hoppin. As we made our way to the front door, there was a small line to get checked in, which is always a good sign. And within a few minutes we were at our table ready to get our grub on. Of course, NO MATTER what Mexican Restaurant I go to.... Chips & Salsa is my First Name and Tacos is my Surname. My middle name you ask?? Mexican Coke in a BOTTLE if they have it.... And Mother's HAD it! First things First... The chips were homemade & cut big (perfect for getting a big dip of salsa). The salsa was red, fire roasted and made my stomach do the happy dance. They are not complimentary, but worth the $7 bucks. Next up... A Margarita for my wife which was presented with a colorful salted rim, a dried orange and a flower... It was almost too pretty to drink...ALMOST. I, of course got my Mexican Coke in a bottle and it was Qué Rico! From there, we got right to business! As we were there on a Sunday, we ordered from the Brunch Menus and Brunch we did... Ventura Style! Between my wife & I... We went with 3 sliced Ribeye Tacos and they were.. EXCELLENT! A homemade tortilla... With a huge, thin sliced piece of Ribeye with a dollop of green salsa. Simple, Unique and Delish! For kicks and giggles, I also ordered a salt-grilled shrimp taco... My only edit that I would had made had I known... I wasn't a fan of the salsa that was on the shrimp taco, but that's just me. Next time, I'll opt for it to come dry and add salsa from my chips & salsa or made sub for the green salsa. As for my 3 kids, they shared their Mexican Hot Chocolate Pancakes with brûléed bananas, with a side of Mexican chocolate sauce & vanilla ice cream.... Ice Cream? For Breakfast?? Yes Please!!!! I believe we ordered a side of rice which never came out, but by the time we ate everything else, we were stuffed and just told them to just take it off our bill. Not that it was a big deal, but our server felt bad and wanted to make it right. So they gave us some complimentary Churros to-go and they were EPIC! Definitely order a side of these for your table! All in All, Mother's in Ventura fits the mold of the city and compliments the town perfectly. The menu is simple, Different (in a good way) and offers some fun Mexican Regional Specialties... Next time, I'm going for their Bowl of Chicharron and their homemade Mexican Shakshuka!! Mother's Ventura, To your Chefs and your Staff... Well Done! Provecho to All!

Our first visit to Mother's Tacos was an absolute delight, and I can't wait to return for more! The tacos here are truly authentic, as if their own mother made them. Let's talk about the drinks. The Lemon Drop with Vodka was an amazing choice. The Old Fashioned was good too, but it was a bit too strong for my taste. The Horchata was decent, but I've had better. Now, let's talk about the food. The Mulita is the star of the show! I personally loved their Asada Mulita. It was rich and full of flavor. On weekends, you can also order Off Cuts like Tripa, Cabeza, and Lengua. My wife raved about the Cabeza Mulita, saying it was amazing! We also tried three types of tacos: Pastor, Asada, and Apollo. All three were delicious, but here's how I ranked them in order of taste: 1) Asada - Amazing tender flavor 2) Chicken - Very tender 3) Pastor - I'm a huge pastor fan, but while delicious, the other two tacos beat it to third place. By the way, my wife and daughter were raving about their grilled fish tacos. They believe these are the best tacos on the menu because of their amazing flavor. The fresh salsas are also very delicious. They're all great, so try them all with your tacos. And the knockout punch comes when you try their Elote (grilled corn on the cob). This is an OMG off the charts FULL of FLAVOR treat. I highly recommend having at least one as part of your meal. You won't be disappointed.

Food is delicious and fresh, and service is top notch. Plenty of seating and TVs for sports watching. Felipe and his team are wonderful and I can't recommend this spot enough. 10/10 can't wait to go back!

It was fun on a rainy day. Came and did our own taco flight. Tried the Baja Fish Taco, Grilled Steak con Papas Taco, Papas Taco, Pico Rico Taco, & El Piri Piri Taco. Next time I would like to try the fresh churro & dipping sauce. Cement floors & cement table tops mixed with a rainy day made it quite cold so dress warmly.

The aesthetic: 10/10 The food: 5/10 I really wanted to like this place because the aesthetic is so fun. But unfortunately the food didn't match. I ordered the Modelo Negra fish tacos which I will say are a hardy portion and my fish was decently sized and cooked perfectly. But the ratio of fish to cabbage was definitely off. (70% cabbage/tortilla : 30% fish) The tortillas were definitely handmade and delicious. My friend ordered the CDMX taco plate with asada and it came out SUPER burnt. It may have well have jerky, it was for sure a jaw workout. Again, the portion is good for what you pay for but the quality definitely isnt. For a drink I had tried their horchata auga fresca which had a distinct flavor of coconut. It definitely didn't taste like it came scooped from a ladel, more like coconut milk with spices. Super disappointed. This place gives me "gentrified mexican food" vibes but on a high quality level. I didn't get a chance to try any cocktails or churros this time but will come back to try next time.

What a great night out! Mothers is a really cool (sorry, Boomer-speak) place to enjoy good friends, good drinks, and good food. Lots of windows and polished concrete floors really set the mood. You order using a table QR code. We enjoyed Mothers Margaritas, chips and salsa, and housemade guacamole while waiting for our meal. Our meal included Carne Asada tacos, Negra Modelo Fish Tacos, along with Red Rice and Pinto Beans. We would have loved to try a Bowl of Chicharřon, but clearly we had our table filled with plenty of wonderful food. The serving crew were very nice and helpful in navigating the menu. This is a great addition to the Ventura dining scene and we are anxious to return.

Sorry but there was nothing I liked about the place expect for the decor inside. Lengua had no flavor, asada was really salty I couldn't eat it, ribeye was dull. I couldn't eat the onion curtida it was bad. Will not come back.

I was so excited to try this Mothers and sadly it didn't hit the spot. This place was all looks and no substance. The chicken skins were heavily seasoned with chili powder but had not salt. Had 2 pieces and I was done. The tacos were expensive and bland. Nothing was properly salted and the salsas were disappointing. The service was friendly but rushed. Drinks were good.

    Ask the Community - Mothers

What time does the brunch menu end and regular lunch menu start on Sunday?

Our brunch menu (a combination of our new lunch menu and some brunch items) runs from 10a-3p on Friday-Sunday. We transition to our dinner menu at 3p.

    Do you sell gift cards?

    Yes! Digital or physical!

I just looked at the menu, and I didn't see any vegetarian options at all. Could someone help me understand if there are vegetarian dishes here? Looks good, but dang, aside from appetizers and desserts, I didn't see anything vegetarian. Thanks!

On the taco side, we have delicious mushroom and potato tacos that are vegetarian. Our Calabacitas (grilled squash dish) is a vegetarian option on the entree side.

First off, the parking here is a nightmare. I literally got boxed in and had to ask someone to move their car so I could back out. Secondly, me and my coworker stop here at 11:30am for an early lunch. There is literally 1 other person there who had already ordered and got their meal just as me and my coworker sit down after ordering. We ordered 7 tacos in total... 30 minutes later the food still hadn't arrived. I finally go up to the counter to see if something was wrong and the guy had no idea about our order and said he was sorry that they had a big catering order. As a former business owner I do understand that stuff happens and a large catering order is good for business but ultimately that isn't the customers problem. Especially the customer that is sitting there at your establishment. Rather than tell us while we were ordering that it might take longer than normal, they don't communicate anything and then don't even address the issue until I go up there to complain. Once that happened the tacos came out in less than 5 minutes which is even more upsetting since this is how fast they should have come out to begin with. The gentleman who I think was an owner did apologize and try to offer some free drinks which I politely declined as I knew I'd never be back again. I hope that this business learns to service the customers properly that are actually dining there and if there is an issue at least takes some initiative to address it on the front side. Most working class people only get a 30-45 minute lunch to begin with so it wasn't cool that we literally wasted 30 minutes just sitting there with no explanation. There are plenty of other good places around Ventura for lunch - especially for tacos. Won't be going back here ever.

Small line in front, you order, pay, go inside, wait for your order at pick up window. Simple! Tables on the pier, and they have a patio facing the ocean, nice view. Picnic tables! They sell wine, beer, margarita-s. Great selection! But the tacos!!! We got 4 between me and my husband to share and sample: Baja Taco (got fried fish) had fresh ingredients, lettuce and a nice lime flavor! Beach House Tacos (got grilled fish), nice pineapple salsa, tender fish, nice sauces and lettuce. Calamari Taco - fried calamari - fresh avocado and cabbage, nice sauce - chipotle. Marilu Taco with popcorn shrimp with nice chile lime crema, not too spicy. Even the fried seafood here is fresh, not very fried, just a tad, nice and crispy, but not greasy. Loved every taco, they are all different than each other, they use fresh ingredients and vegetables, each had a great, original flavor, they don't skimp on anything - seafood or ingredients. By far, some of the best tacos I ever had, they go in my Top 5. 4 Tacos (they are big!) are enough for 2 people. My and my husband we also shared a portion of guac and chips, they reminded us of Mexico. The guac had a lime flavor and well mashed, the tortilla chips are thicker and extra friend. Great food, nice service, unpretentious taco stand on Ventura Pier. Nice views. Wonderful discovery and a nice place to eat at! I am a fan!

Beach House Tacos? More like Beach House Snacks…read more I stood in line for 15 minutes just to place my order at the window, then waited another 45 minutes for my food. An hour later, I was handed a to-go box so tiny it fit in the palm of my hand. For a split second, I thought maybe they forgot the rest of my order. Nope. Inside were three of the smallest "street tacos" I've ever seen. I've seen more substantial meals in Barbie's Dreamhouse. I ordered the carne asada, but apparently the salt shaker took the day off because the meat had absolutely zero seasoning. No salt, no flavor, no redeeming qualities. The punchline? This tiny, flavorless comedy routine cost me $10 and an hour of my life. If you're looking for an appetizer for a doll or you're on a strict "disappointment diet," this is your place. As for me... never again.
