I never leave reviews, but this place deserves all the love. Accidentally ended up at Baja Fresh in Folsom, and I'm so glad I did. First off, the place is super clean, the staff is genuinely friendly, and the owner was incredibly helpful. You don't see many Baja Fresh locations anymore, and this one brought back all the good memories -- especially after trying their Shrimp Diablo. Perfectly spicy, flavorful, and just like the old days when Baja Fresh actually meant something. If you're driving back from Tahoe, or live nearby and haven't been yet -- give this spot a chance. The operator also operates the gas station where this Baja Fresh is located. The bathrooms are filthy, floors are sticky and soda machine smells. Now the food - while served hot the ingredients were anything but fresh. The meat in my burrito was mealy and clearly old. The salsa bar that Baja Fresh is known for was full of bottled coke and fanta - you need to ask for every serving of salsa. This place has the quality you would expect from a gas station. This location is so much better than it used to be! The man who works there is friendly, generous, kind and efficient. The food is more like the old Baja that was sooo good! The quality is much better and he's generous enough with the salsa I don't really mind that there is no salsa bar anymore. I'll be honest, this certainly isn't the best Baja Fresh experience I've ever had in my life, but I do not believe it deserves so many 1 star reviews. I'll admit I was slightly thrown off that it was connected to a gas station, I think we are are programmed to believe restaurants connected to gas stations are somehow sub par and lower quality... but I don't feel that was the case here. The restaurant portion was clean, tables were all clean, floor was clean. The gentleman that took our order and made the food was very friendly. The soda machine was broken, but so what? He let us pick a any drink we wanted from the refrigerated section. While waiting for our food I started reading all these 1 star reviews and I'll admit I was slightly worried and started wondering if we had made a terrible mistake... but the food came and it was beautifully presented, smelled delicious and tasted delicious. If you order online, it shows that they are open, but when you show up to grab your food, the doors are locked and they took your money, so you have to waste even more time by disputing the charge with your bank. This is the worst Baja Fresh I've ever been to. Its dirty and smells like curry!! There was a bug on our table and it looked like they had not cleaned the place in a long time. They didn't have fountain drinks available - I guess they're too cheap, and chips were stale and rubbery. It was 100 degrees and they didn't have the air on - again too cheap. They have a big wall blocking the food prep area (which no other Baja Fresh has) and I think it's so customers won't see that they serve old food. The cook was nice but he's only the cook and has to work with what he has. Corporate Offices should fine or shut down this franchise - they advertise like all other Baja Fresh restaurants, but they don't serve the same level food. Located next to the Mobil station on Folsom-Auburn Rd I was surprised to find fresh cooked food at a reasonable price. Full disclosure, what brought me in was a coupon for a burrito that is regularly $7.99 for for $5.25. Otherwise I doubt I would've ventured in. They have a full line of Burritos, tacos, salads and such. There is plenty of seating. It is attached to the Mobil convenience store and makes for an odd ambience. Ordered the Chicken Burrito. The chicken was breast meat and freshly cooked. It was very salty. The Guacomole was ample and delicious and freshly made. They have a ton (5) of salsa's that are fresh made that will help to keep your protein interesting. This is a small little Baja Fresh restaurant located right to the side of a gas station store which is very convenient as a pit stop for delicious food, gas, and grab some snacks to-go. The staff at this Baja Fresh is very friendly and helpful. The restaurant was very clean and tidy. I got the 2 steak taco combo with rice and beans and the boyfriend got a steak burrito. The presentation was great compared to the other pictures and reviews that I've seen. The food was tasty and delicious. The only downside is the salsa bar wasn't complete. This location does not put out lime wedges or the red (hot) salsa at the salsa bar. But they had it behind the counter, you just have to ask for it. As I walked in after the scheduled time the food was supposed to be ready, the stove was not on, the salsa's were put away, not one item was out on the counter and it was no where near closing time. After I had to make myself known that I was there, a boy named Saboor from the back came out and after I said I was here for my order, he went to the reciept machine, and said "Oh, well I'll start working on your order now, it will be done soon." I knew something was really off in that moment. But the kids were hungry. And we didn't want to be rude. I was noticing the grill area has nothing cooking. There was no smell of food being prepared. It looked very old and dirty. We waited about 20 plus minutes. He didn't even bring food outside to us. Just yelled ready!! My kids immediately said after first bite that the meat smelled funny. So I said don't eat it. I'll just get our money back. I went in with the full plates of food. He didn't want to help me. He kept saying in broken English I've already cooked it!! I kept explaining I just wanted a refund back to my card. He said he needed to call the owner. He puts this guy on the phone and trys to hand me his phone. It looked so slimy and dirty. I did not touch it. I spoke to this guy Ahmad. He spoke perfect English. And said his employee could not refund my money. Even though it was a square pos system? Easy!! He said that he would do it on Monday. Monday came. I called Wednesday and that Friday. I never was called back by this owner Ahmad. I never was put on the phone with him. In fact the last time I called the girl actually hung up on me. This place should not be serving food. They don't care about people. Where do I start... 1 - My wife and son got food poisoning--deduced it down to either the black beans and/or salsa bar, 2 - I ordered my Ultimo Burrito "Enchilado Style", and she (the clerk) told me, we don't have it today... to this I said it was the only reason I came here... to this she responded, I'm not sure if we have it in the food storage area... Good food, good customer service. Not sure why such poor ratings. Not usually a customer, but had a free bday burrito coupon to use. They were quick and friendly. Place was clean. Even though connected to gas station, it's isolated to its own spot in the plaza. Cashier was friendly and easily helped the gf and I customize every part of the order. Only reason for 4/5 stars is because I've had hole in the wall taco spots and moms cooking, so my Mexican food bar is set SUPER HIGH. Will be back though, thanks guys. read more
