My mother & I did a private tour with Jen & Chris and were BEYOND impressed. Their selections for our itinerary, the relationships they have with everywhere we went, and their knowledge of the Valle far exceeded our expectations. We tasted some of the best wine with the owners of the wineries themselves, dined on fresh and innovative cuisine, and overall just enjoyed each other's company. As a Travel Advisor, I would recommend Baja Test Kitchen to any of my clients in a heartbeat and have full confidence that they would have the best time. Although we did a private tour, I would love to try one of their public tours that leaves from the San Ysidro border sometime - there have such a wide variety!

Best way to see the Valley! First of all, being picked up at our home in San Diego, was an unexpected, and pleasant surprise from a tour operation. Door to door service - nice! My husband booked a Day trip so we could check out the Valley before we go down there this summer, for the first time, for a friend's wedding. Thanks to Chris, we most definitely got the lay of the land. Being that we were more interested in food than wine, Chris tailored the trip for us. We started with a visit to a working livestock ranch whose dairy cows produce a variety of delectable cheeses to the booming restaurant and winery scene in the Valley. I was in heaven. We even bought olive oil, produced on the ranch, at a fraction of what it would cost in the USA. Our day included 2 wineries, each unique and so picturesque. I am not very knowledgeable about wine and Chris really helped educate me; no snobbery just appreciation. He's American, but bilingual and his translations were really helpful. When we had our midday meal, at one of the best restaurants in the Valley, we let Chris do all the ordering. First he asked our preferences and how adventurous of diners we were. We were delighted with his choices. Even his dessert choice! We just got to relax and enjoy the day, being driven around in the comfort of his Land Rover (immaculately clean) as he shared his knowledge and connections in the Valley. We went into the day with no expectations and were blown away by how much we saw and did in just a few hours.

Thank you for the excellent experience we had on our first trip to the Guadalupe Valley. I honestly was a skeptic of the wine quality, however, no longer...the wines were superb. Far better than most wines in Temecula, for example. Highlights of the trip for our four person private tour included: - BTK's Excellent website and FAQ, allowed us to prepare with minimal anxiety - Prompt and responsive service to our numerous questions on passports, travel, cuisine and wines...thank you Chris - We'll take Jen as our guide any-time. She is great company, very knowledgeable and put up with us for a full day - Traveling in the Range Rover was much appreciated over a van or vehicle...thank you - Personal touches, visits with the winemakers, made us feel like VIP's or insiders, not just tourists - The access to additional tastings/reserve wines, including Las Nubes, Vena Cava and especially at Chateau Camou was memorable - Lunch at Finca Altozano was terrific...I dreamt of the Pato with the black mole yesterday... Only downside is that we are only allowed 1 litre each to bring home by U.S. customs...but we will buy more now that we know where to find Baja wines in San Diego. Your service is also a great value, for example, comparing the BTK one day trip for 2 from San Diego vs. a one day trip to Santa Ynez valley (Santa Barbara). Until our next trip with Baja Test Kitchen...

We spent a good amount of time at three wineries (the tour lasted about 5 hours), but it felt like it all went by so fast! We had ordered lunch at one of the wineries, and the food was delicious. However, it felt like the prices were a little high for the food we ordered. Nevertheless, they were accommodating with at least two vegan options! (Totally wish they had more) For my vegans, the panini was good! Mark (or 'Rags') was our tour guide, and he really made the day spectacular! He was knowledgeable and enthusiastic! He let us choose the music in the van while we went from place to place and gave us an itinerary of what to expect before we started! He was also very nice and joyful! He also brought out birthday cupcakes for the three birthday girls!! It was very cute! He was personable and a joy to spend the day with! I only wish the tour of the winery was longer! We only spent some time in a room to see how they made wine in clay pots! Otherwise, 10/10!!

All explanations would have been cleared up then, however you wanted to come and try to reiterate the message as if their was a lack of clarity.

Besides being an expert on wine, Paul Anthony also told us a lot about San Diego history along the way. It's hard to imagine a more perfect host. The first stop was the Bernardo Winery, where we learned about its history while having a delicious flight of wines (there were six different flight options!) and enjoyed a tasty charcuterie platter. The next stop was the Cordiano Winery, which had amazing views. We had another tasty flight there along with a salad and a delicious pizza. (My wife has a gluten allergy, along with other food allergies, and they were able to accommodate them all at both wineries.) The tour took about 4 hours. This was definitely one of the most fun experiences we've had in a while.

One thing to note, he is very strict on timing, so if you think you've got an extra five minutes, you don't.. LOL Now onto the tour itself. I've done quite a few wine tours, and unfortunately this one was my least favorite. It was also the first wine tour I've done that only visited two locations, which was a bit of a letdown. The first winery had a nice selection, we got three wine tastings. The Burgundy was my favorite from The Heritage flight. The property itself was beautiful to walk around, with amazing scenery and lots of great photo spots. We also stopped by the sweets shop and picked up a few treats. There were also surrounding shops near the winery. Personally, they weren't really my style, but that comes down to taste. If you like clothing and home décor, you might enjoy it more. Clothing prices looked to start around $50 and went up from there. The home décor shop was very cute with lots of handmade items, mostly in the $20 range and higher. I skipped the candle shop due to allergies. The charcuterie board was a nice touch and came with a good variety of items. The second wine location included five tastings. I personally wasn't a fan of the wines here. One person in our group ordered a glass from the regular menu and shared it, it was much better than the tasting options, and most of the group seemed to agree this stop was a bit of a disappointment. That said, the views were absolutely incredible. The pizza included in the tour was a highlight for me, I had the vegetarian, and it was really good. The vegetables were fresh and crisp. There wasn't much walking around at this stop, so we mostly stayed at the table and ate. My favorite parts of the tour was the food and the tour guide. I'm glad I tried it and can check another wine region off my list, even if it wasn't my favorite experience overall. For reference, we were picked up at 9:45 AM and dropped off around 3:00 PM.

Albert led us to several places less traveled by tourists and sampled many different foods. The fresh mango with lime and chile at the open-air market was refreshing along with the coconut water we purchased that was cut right in front of you. We sampled various flavored nuts and chili gummies at one stop. We also had fish ceviche tostadas, grilled marlin tacos, carne asada tacos with handmade tortillas that were amazing. Finishing up the tour we had agua frescas, authentic Baja-style fried fish tacos, and freshly-made churros. Walking to our next stop always helped with our full bellies.
