I had been following you since you opened at the beginning of COVID and have been mightily impressed with your fortitude to start and grow a business. ALSO loved the cheese sticks, and the guava pastry.

HEADS UP- this is NOT a restaurant‼there is one chef who sets up a "pop-up" in various locations…read more We were not aware of this at first so we walked to two different locations before finding the right one, which was at Mayes Oyster House on Polk St. Finally came across the correct location on his Instagram story at @arepasenbici. Now we know to also check his website at arepasenbici.com *WAIT TIME- our party of 3 arrived right around 7 pm. We were a bit confused upon arrival since there were no other customers, only a bartender on FaceTime and a DJ jamming out by himself in the corner. We were worried that we went to the wrong place again, but it turns out that majority of the chef's customers just orders ahead online then picks up to-go. After asking the bartender if this was the right place to find arepas, she told us to walk towards the back and meet the chef in the kitchen. Then the chef handed us barcodes to scan and we did not have to wait extremely long for our orders but it also wasn't super fast since he had other orders to take care of. *AMBIANCE- fun, loud, "going-out" type of vibes at this specific location since it is also karaoke night on Wednesdays starting at 7 pm. *QUALITY- great! This was our first time trying our Venezuelan food and definitely won't be our last. Although we have no other arepas to compare it to, we can confidently say that it was prepped with great care and skill. Love how there's also a vegan option, which is the Dom arepa! *CUSTOMER SERVICE- great! The chef is friendly and highly personable, which definitely plays a role in us wanting to support him even more! He even surprised our friend with 2 pastellitos after finding out she didn't order some when both my fiancé and I did, which was very nice and inclusive of him. *RESTROOM- bathroom available inside at this specific location. *OUTDOOR SEATING- available, but no outdoor heaters. *PARKING- no private lot available, best bet would be metered street parking on streets surrounding Polk like Bush St which is free after 6 pm!

Wow this hidden gem was amazing! I took my wife and 3 kids here on a whim; we love Chinese food and…read morelatin food, and this place was just a couple blocks from our hotel. We were welcomed in by the staff and seated at a large trapezoidal table, and given menus. There was a lot to choose from but the friendly staff helped us select some winners. We had the cucumber salad, braised beef brisket noodle soup (sooo good!), Lumpia de Jamon y Queso, Pollo Valenciano (rotisserie chicken they are named for), Cantoo Triple Set, Arroz Especial (house fried rice) and a flan for dessert. The food was amazing. Lumpia was large enough to share between us all and had great flavor. The chicken was so moist, even the breast; this is what rotisserie chicken was meant to be! I love a good fried rice, and theirs was amongst the best I've ever had. The duck and pork belly in the tripple set were so good; crispy skin on both with flavorful juicy meat below. Even though we were in a hotel with no way to reheat food, we took home the extra because we couldn't imagine parting with anything. This was for my sons 10th birthday, to the amazing staff offered a flan and it was delicious! If we are back in the neighborhood, I'll be heading back for sure!

A meeting of Cantonese and Venezuelan food. Good for a post-outing meal when you're looking to wind…read moredown but have a substantial craving to satisfy. The beef and cheese empanada was a good start to the meal. They're large, so one is good to share between 2 people. The #D6 bbq triple combo plate was a must try - roasted pork had a good distribution of fat and light crunchy skin. The bbq pork was served in thick slices and tender. Duck vermicelli complemented the meal and included plenty morsels of duck meat and skin. There was sliced vegetable and egg mixed in, among which was pickled mustard - adding acidity to the dish good for cutting the grease. I was so looking forward to the salted egg pumpkin, so it's regretful that it tasted as if fried in old cooking oil and was dredged in it. Unfortunately, the meal was slightly greasy and a bit salty - hence good for post-outing. In the moment, it was enjoyably satisfying, but leftovers next day exposed the salt and grease.

You Guava be Kidding Me…read more A bakery and juicery that has been serving up delicious Colombian specialties since 1999 in Colombia, before emigrating to the US and opening up shop here in Cambrian Park in 2014. Milohas (mil hojas) means a thousand layers in Spanish, and one taste of Milohas' pastries will make you understand why they picked that moniker. The Good: * Large shared parking lot * Friendly service * Covered outdoor dining * The crust of the empanadas was buttery, flaky, and delicious. All the fillings were good, but you have to try the Hawaiian filling! It was truly fantastic and had us wishing that's all we'd ordered. * Guava Finger has the same perfect crust and tasty guava jam--I could eat a dozen of these and come back for more. *oink oink* * Carissa really enjoyed their lentil soup. I didn't try it, so I can't comment. The Meh: * I kind of prefer the chunks of meat in Peruvian empanadas to the ground meat in Colombian ones, but that's just a personal preference. It was still delicious, so at the end of the day, it's all academic. The Ugly: * No indoor dining, and outdoor dining is limited to only a handful of seats. Conclusion: We've been on the hunt for the best empanadas in the South Bay, and we finally found them.

It's basically a bakery-like store that has a wonderful selection of Colombian style empanadas and colclos (so?). They also have some delicious looking flans and a few other items. Need to go back and try more. The chicken large empanada and Hawaiian empanada I had were both amazing. Limited beverage selection, unfortunately. Friendly staff and reasonable prices.
