I am finally at O'Some cafe! It's a quaint cafe tucked away in the Watertown suburbs. I've been wanting to check out their specialty Asian flavor drinks. I got there on an early Thursday morning and there were already a lot of pastries. Their menu range doesn't disappoint at all. I got a hot black sesame latte and it hits all the notes. The sesame flavor wasn't overpowering and still balanced it. I also tried their banana bread and their assorted mini shortbreads. I love both of them. Can't wait to go in to try more drinks. They are also a huge supporter of the local community - for example, they generously donate to the nearby elementary school for our annual cultural event every year. Stumbled upon O'Some while looking for a cute cafe to grab a quick bite. The ambiance and menu online was enticing so we stopped in. The place is a bit small and there was a line when we arrived but the service moved quick. I got the salted toffee latte with oatmilk, the grey earl pound cake, and a bacon cheddar scone. The latte was yummy, I didn't think the flavor of toffee was prominent though. The bacon cheddar scone was great. I loved the bits of bacon throughout and the overall flavor profile was the savory treat I was looking for. The poundcake was a bit more dense than I would have liked which made it a bit dry on its own. Both items were suprisingly more filling that I anticipated, which was a pleasant surprise. such a cute little cafe! I loved coming in and being able to order two coffees for my long day at work. I was able to meet the cutest regular (a golden named Atlas). It was definitely the highlight of my day! Between the two lattes I got, I would definitely say the Italian cookie one (I forget the official name of it) is the best. I got iced lattes for both with skim milk (unfortunately there was no almond milk option). The second latte I got was the salted caramel but I still favored the cookie one. Stopped here for an afternoon pick me up while I was in the area getting lunch. It's a very small shop, take away only - no seating. I ordered the seasonal hot black sesame latte with oat milk, matcha pound cake and black sesame pound cake. The latte was delicious, hint of sweet and the espresso was done well. The pound cake was interesting. Instead of slices, it looks like they were individually baked. They were a bit dry and the frosting on top was quite sweet. It's been a while since I've visited O'Some, but I'm glad I did today! The open black sesame latte, my favorite drink here, is still on the sweet but flavorful side, and is especially delightful iced. (You could probably ask for less black sesame syrup to cut down on the sugar, but then you'd get less sesame... a conundrum). But today I was most excited to try one of their gluten free scones, after seeing them mentioned in other reviews. The staff had recently made a batch of GF blueberry scones when I stopped by on a late weekday morning. Scones had a good texture (a "crust" with a soft but not too crumbly interior), and sweet but not too sweet. Apparently they have more options on weekends and even have a vegan and gluten free option on occasion. I will definitely be back to try them! Note that they keep their gluten free baked goods separate from their gluten-filled ones, which is very much appreciated. The barista was unfamiliar to me (then again, it's been many months since I've last visited) but as friendly as all their staff has ever been. Even though there isn't seating in the small cafe, I'd recommend taking your food and drinks across the street to the Watertown Library patio. Pre-Christmas 2022 visit I was heading out to Waltham so I took the opportunity to finally stop by O'Some Cafe to check them out. I was hopeful for some interesting Asian flavors and was aware that they had scones and pound cakes boxed in variety boxes for the holidays. It was late morning on a Tuesday and there was one gent awaiting his order ahead of me. It is a small shop in Watertown Square, just across the street from the Firehouse. Metered parking is available just outside. Four flavors of scones filled the top case box on the left of the counter (2 savory and 2 sweet), but the only pound cakes I could see were the samples set out to tempt into us to order a 2022 Holiday Gift Box of 4 for $18. The owner kindly offered to quickly decorate some if I was interested in the chocolate pound cakes that she had just taken out of the oven. I ended up leaving with one jalapeno cheddar spinach scone $3.75 (pickled jalapenos, I was told, so I'm hopeful that it isn't too spicy for me), and two chocolate pound cakes $3.50 each (dolled up as peppermint mocha and as salted caramel) in their white paper sacks. Had the peppermint mocha first with its dehydrated marshmallows and peppermint candy came pieces. It was sweet and moist without being too sweet. Heated up the jalapeno cheddar spinach scone for breakfast the next day. Let me say, this was soft, tender, but definitely not mild spicy. I tamed it sufficiently somewhat between bites of banana and sips of milk, but likely not the best choice for someone even less spicy tolerant than me. Lastly, I enjoyed the not too sweet chocolate pound cake dressed with salted caramel as the salt contrasted well with the sweet. It became my preference of the two garnish options. Goals are the yuzu and matcha pound cakes. Tip - call a day or two earlier if you really want something specific as they do not make everything every day. Despite the wait, the decor is so cute that you can spend your time admiring it We ordered one of each of the remaining pound cake flavors (cookie butter and black sesame), and I got the black sesame latte. I'm so happy I finally tried this café. I got the Dalgona latte with less ice and it was fantastic-- the perfect level of sweetness with the distinct coffee flavor smoking through that doesn't get lost in the creaminess. It can easily hold a candle to ones I've had in New York City and is definitely one of the best drinks I've ever had. The menu has options but isn't so expansive that you get lost in figuring out which one to get, and they have seasonal drinks as well. The baristas who work there are also very nice and easygoing. It has two seats at the window. As I sat there, regulars came in ordering their favorites and chatted with the baristas about what pastries to try. The overall atmosphere was very friendly. My friend and I stopped by early Friday morning after our jog. I ordered the sesame latte as well as four loaf cakes - yuzu, black sesame, matcha, and cookie butter. The sesame latte was pretty good. I enjoyed the coffee part more than the black sesame, but it was not too bad. There were other seasonal flavors that sounded interesting on the menu. The loaf cakes are not large in size but surprisingly dense. I most enjoyed the yuzu as the flavor was most prominent, and the texture was very moist. The other cakes were slightly dry and lacking in flavor. I could not taste matcha or black sesame much. I did enjoy how the icing for the cakes was not too sweet. The place is run by the owner, who gave detailed instructions regarding the storage and shelf life of the cake, which I greatly appreciated. Loved. What stood out to me was the iced black sesame latte I ordered the moment I saw it. Nostalgia and caffeine in the same cup? I'll take it. Also grabbed a piece of yuzu pound cake and a blueberry lemon scone to try. Both were really good, and delightful. The space is super small, and yet somehow they bake everything in-house. I stopped by there lunch time. The space inside the cafe is small. I noticed there were two people waiting behind me when I was ordering and they were standing pretty close to the door. It is a small cozy cafe. Besides the typical wall menu, they also have specialty drinks on a chalk board next to the register. At first I ordered the ice matcha latte without realizing the specialty drinks on the chalk board. The server was nice enough to let me change my order. I ended up ordering an ice black sesame latte and a chocolate cruffin. The Black sesame latte was a little too sweet to me. The chocolate cruffin was surprisingly good. I tried O'Some for the first time and was delighted to be there. One aspect of the cafe that struck me immediately was that it was entirely painted a peaceful gray blue, including the ceiling. This design choice gave the feeling of almost being inside a cabin for the few minutes while you order and receive your coffee. I tried the iced latte with oat milk, which while on the pricier side ($5.50 or so including tax and milk upcharge) was worth it. The espresso was smooth, rich, and not at all bitter. It also was 2 shots of espresso I believe. The oat milk that the owner/barista used also looked unique: it came in a carton I had not seen before at the grocery store, leading me to believe that the owner very intentionally chose ingredients. Really great! Followed the rating on Yelp! while I had my car worked on in the area and was glad I did. Unfortunately for them, the building is having a face lift so they are tucked away behind scaffolding, but after walking past three times, I found it. First of all, let me acknowledge the warm reception received as you walk through the door. Both young ladies looked up from what they were doing and with a smile said "Good morning!" with such sincerity it brought a tear to my eyes. The scones in particular seem pretty popular, and after trying the cheddar/rosemary/apple I can see why! The interior is pretty small so there is no place to sit. What a lovely coffee shop! There seems to be one employee, the owner, who bakes all the goods and prepares the drinks for you. She seems very friendly. We had a regular latte, an open sesame latte, and the rosemary scone. The drinks were delicious. The sesame latte reminds me of the halvah lattes you can get at Tatte (but I prefer the flavor and subtle sweetness found here at O'Some). We read the Boston Sunday Globe review she has up on the wall, and it's quite the story! I hope her coffee shop thrives, as it really is a great addition to the area. It's a shop that knows its coffees. It's a small shop, good for grab and go. There is currently no seating available, likely due to Covid. The baked goods all look very good. I hope she is able to expand her menu in the future to add breakfast and lunch sandwiches, as I'd be curious about what she could offer there. But the baked options all looked very good. Looking forward to coming back again soon to try some of the other latte flavors that are offered! The brown sugar option will likely be my next pick.
