This time was different…read more He was meowing and scared the whole way to Newport-Mesa, even more so than on the plane. He wouldn't shut up and, because he was sick, he probably thought I was going to get rid of him. He'd been throwing up a lot for a few days and kept contracting his stomach, rhythmically, about once every second, and breathing heavily, which could have been something very serious. I was just as worried as him. It was his first time being sick and his first time leaving home. No cat likes to go to the vet. Thankfully, he doesn't know about neutering nor taking shots, at least not just yet. I like taking Fireball and Tequila shots, but that's different. Notwithstanding, there is zero difference between a woman's psychology and a cat's, so it's important to be careful with them and get them to think that everything is their idea, which they did. They all seemed like genuinely caring people, which means a lot for a cat, as they can be skittish. Dr. Terry, Natalia and Kaylee were all very professional and gentle with RICO. I think they probably took a bit extra time with him, in order to pet him and enjoy his company, which he seemed to like. Who could blame them? He's the best cat ever! I taught him everything he knows. He normally follows me around everywhere I go, until he felt sick. Now that he's feeling better, he does so again. We were both worried, but Dr. Terry had a very compassionate bedside manner and made us both feel comfortably. On his way back home, RICO told me that he was happy and was seemingly already feeling better, because he didn't meow like a scaredy-cat, not once. He did wet himself inside of his carrier, but that's just because he couldn't hold it any longer. They went above and beyond: I received a text message late last night, well after business hours, from someone who wanted to make sure RICO was doing better. That or they just really liked him. Thankfully, he's back to his normal self, with no more throwing up and no more contractions. RICO told me to tell Natalia that he wishes he could have said goodbye and he wouldn't mind seeing her again. Other than that, it was a flawless trip to the vet. RICO is very appreciative that he feels all better. I research everything, due-diligently. It was no surprise to me that Newport-Mesa Animal Hospital took great care of RICO. Thank you!

My two senior dogs, Roux (almost 15 and unable to walk) and Cloud is 13 ( who's not the easiest with people), both receive the most loving, expert care here--and I wouldn't trust anyone else with them. From the front desk to the exam room, the care and compassion they show is unmatched. Dr. Keating is by far the best vet I've ever encountered. Her calm, kind presence is something you feel the moment she walks in. She listens to every concern, answers every question, and always finds thoughtful solutions. Roux is nearly 15 and can't walk, and Dr. Keating handles him with such tenderness and respect. Cloud can be difficult around people, but this is the only vet clinic where she feels safe and is treated with gentle care. Her calm energy is something you simply can't teach; she is truly one of a kind. If I could give her 10 stars, I would! Natalia the vet tech, is just as incredible. She's warm, patient, and takes her time making sure my dogs feel comfortable and cared for. I truly enjoy seeing her each visit. I love seeing her and knowing my dogs are in such kind and capable hands. And huge thanks to Serena and Edward at the front desk----they're always quick to respond to my messages about appointments, medications or any concerns I have. They make every interaction smooth and stress-free. They are so friendly and helpful every time I come in. I wholeheartedly recommend Newport Mesa Animal Hospital to all my friends and family. The entire team goes above and beyond, and I truly wouldn't take my dogs anywhere else. They treat my pets like family--and that means the world to me. Thank you all for the love and care you give Roux and Cloud!

They are extremely anxious, easily spooked, and previous experiences unfortunately only made that anxiety worse. At our last clinic we had reached the highest doses of their anxiety medications and even with me present, appointments were still extremely stressful. Hope would freeze, vocalize, and at some point I started believing that was just normal for him. Modern Animal completely changed that experience. Hope was unsure at first, but the calm environment, the patience, and the care from the team made such a difference. Dr. Mursa was incredible. She listened to all of my questions and reviewed Hope's records thoroughly. What stood out most was that she brought up safer medication options considering his seizure history, something I had been trying to advocate for elsewhere for months. That level of attention and care meant more than I can explain. I also have to talk about my nurses Alyssa and Isai. Hope historically does not do well with men, yet Isai had him accepting treats, asking for pets, and showing the sweet personality I know he has underneath his anxiety. Alyssa did his blood draw so calmly and efficiently that for the first time I didn't saw him completely lose it, and it was over before he even realized. Both Alyssa and Isai were also incredibly thorough explaining his medications and follow-up care. Thank you all for making my baby feel safe, loved, and cared for. I never thought a vet visit could become something enjoyable for him, and seeing him leave wagging his tail instead of terrified meant everything to me. Me and Hope cannot recommend this team enough.

Dr. Lee took the time to listen carefully to my concerns, did not rush the appointment, and made sure all of my questions were answered. She handled Pickle with great care and gentleness, was very thorough in her work, and treated her with genuine kindness. She even carried Pickle carefully when taking her for X-rays, which I really appreciated. Overall, I am very grateful for the compassionate and professional care both Dr. Lee and Rebecca provided to Pickle.

This place is great, until you actually need them for something other than a routine vaccination…read more My dog was completely misdiagnosed here after $700 worth of tests. Look, human error happens, I get it. What's incredibly frustrating is that we specifically brought up our concerns about it being a spine issue, only to be dismissed. Flash forward to an emergency hospital visit over the weekend and... shocker! Our dachshund did, in fact, have a spinal issue. Who could have possibly predicted that? We had the official IVDD diagnosis sent over to this clinic so we could get the proper medication. Just to be explicitly clear, Family Animal Hospital is the one who prescribed these meds. After a couple days, our dog had an adverse reaction to one of them. Having no idea which medication was the cause, because, yanno, I'm not a vet, I called this clinic for advice on what was safe to keep giving her. The response? The doctor who treated her wasn't in today, so they'd just leave a note and I could wait to hear back tomorrow. My dog has IVDD. She is in extreme pain without her meds. They know this, and they prescribed them. Am I supposed to just guess which ones will help her and which ones will make her stomach bleed? No advice? Nothing? Ok, cool. When I asked if they could at least ask the doctor who was currently in the office for input, I was told: "Oh, you'd have to bring her in and pay an exam fee so she can see what's going on herself since it's not her patient." Right. Let me get right on loading up my dog, who is currently riddled with pain at the slightest movement of her spine and dealing with newly developing stomach distress, just to stress her out with an unnecessary vet visit. All so a doctor working at the exact same clinic can look at the diagnosis and chart that are already in your system. It is apparently physically impossible for a veterinarian to look at a computer screen and give a safety directive on medications their own clinic dispensed unless they get another credit card swipe first. Otherwise, I guess I just have to wait until tomorrow and hope my dog survives the night. & I'll probably get some generic response about legality and medical safety, but telling a loyal client to stop a medication because the dog is having a clear adverse reaction isn't a legal liability. It's basic emergency triage. You didn't refuse to help because of the law. You refused because my credit card wasn't actively swiping at the front desk. The doctor was there and the chart was there but basic advice for a suffering animal was held hostage behind another exam fee. All that to say : If you want to dump over $1,000 into a clinic for a misdiagnosis, zero continuity of care, and a complete lack of basic empathy, this is the spot for you. But I know I won't be bringing any of my animals back here, and honestly, you shouldn't either.

My 9-year-old pug has previously had a severe reaction to the rabies vaccine, which I explained multiple times. Despite this, they refused to give her Cytopoint allergy injection unless she also received the rabies vaccine. Considering she is an indoor pug with a documented vaccine reaction history, this felt very concerning and unnecessary. I also brought in another one of my dogs for Cytopoint, and they insisted on doing a skin scrape first, which added another $200 to the visit. They ultimately found nothing under the microscope. On top of that, they presented an iPad full of "treatment options" recommending over $1,000 worth of additional tests, medications, and procedures. It felt overwhelming and very sales-driven. After visiting our new vet last week, the difference was night and day. No pressure, no excessive treatment plans.. Just compassionate, straightforward care from people who genuinely seemed focused on helping my dogs rather than maximizing profit. I don't usually leave negative reviews, but I hope this feedback encourages more transparency and less pressure to upsell unnecessary vaccines, tests, and treatment options.

He was quite old, and I knew in my heart this was likely something he wouldn't survive. I immediately called his regular vet (I'm looking at you CDM Animal Hospital), only to be told, without much compassion, that they were too busy to see him and I should take him to an emergency animal hospital. While those hospitals serve an important purpose, I couldn't bring myself to take him somewhere so cold and overwhelming during such a painful moment. That's when I remembered Urban Vet. I had seen them before when they were located in a nearby shopping center. I called, explained the situation, and they were incredibly kind and told me to bring him in right away. From the moment I arrived, the team was exceptional. They took him back immediately, put him on oxygen, and did everything they could to keep him comfortable. Sadly, it turned out he had a tumor near his heart that had ruptured, and there were very limited options. I made the incredibly difficult decision to end his suffering. The vets were so compassionate and gentle, and they allowed me to hold him in my arms as he crossed the rainbow bridge. I will always be grateful for the dignity and kindness they showed us in that moment. Since then, I've brought both my cat and the dog I recently adopted to Urban Vet, and every experience has reinforced how special this practice is. Every staff member is wonderful and clearly a true animal lover. My pets don't mind going there at all; the office is calm, beautiful, and sun-filled. The vets are top-notch, communicate clearly, and take the time to explain their recommendations. Urban Vet has my complete trust, and I can't recommend them highly enough.

From the moment you walk into their clinic on Placentia Ave in Costa Mesa, you can feel that this team treats every animal like family not like a number on a chart. My 16-year-old Chow had suddenly started declining. She's a senior girl, and at that age every small change is scary. She wasn't eating, she was weak, and we honestly thought we were losing her. We brought her to Mesa West Pet Hospital and met Dr. Lethicia Lepera and that's when everything changed. Dr. Lepera didn't do the "quick look and guess" that we'd seen in other places. She went all in. She ran thorough bloodwork and imaging in-house, right there at the hospital (they have their own lab and radiology on site), and started piecing together what was really going on instead of just treating the symptoms. After a full workup, she discovered that our Chow wasn't "just old" she was actually dealing with serious kidney and liver issues that had been missed before. That deeper investigation is the reason our dog is still here. Dr. Lepera caught it in time, built a treatment plan around supporting those organs, adjusted her meds, and walked us through nutrition, comfort, and realistic long-term care. She literally gave our dog her life back and gave us more good time with her What really stood out to me: * The medical skill Dr. Lepera has been practicing for years, and you can feel that experience the moment she starts talking. She's calm, direct, and incredibly knowledgeable -- especially with complicated internal issues, not just simple checkups. * The diagnostics and follow-through They didn't guess. They tested. Bloodwork, imaging, monitoring, and then adjustments based on real data. That level of attention is rare, especially for senior dogs * The honesty and communication Nothing was sugarcoated, but nothing was hopeless either. Dr. Lepera explained every step, every medication, every number in language we could actually understand. We left feeling informed, not scared and confident that she took the best decision * The team The staff here is kind, patient, and fast. You can tell this is a clinic that actually cares they're not just trying to push you through the door. This kind of compassion is mentioned over and over by other clients, and now I get why. We were there per hours feeling embraced by them * Full support in one place Mesa West Pet Hospital also has a full in-house pharmacy, so we were able to leave with exactly what our Chow needed right away instead of driving around town or waiting on approval from some online service. When you're dealing with a sick senior pet, that matters. ) Today, our 16-year-old Chow is comfortable, eating again, and actually enjoying her days. At her age, "stable and happy" is a miracle, and that miracle came from Dr. Lepera and her team.
