My two Frenchies have been patients here for over 8 years. Frenchies tend to have allergies including skin issues and we visited frequently. I should of moved the first time we had a bad experience with my male Frenchie. He was experiencing eye issues and his eye looked infected. We went in to MMPC and our dog was put on antibiotic drops. The issue didn't go away. In fact it got worse with the pups eye beginning to get drippy. We were finally sent to an ocular specialist and were told that the dog needs emergency surgery and that he could lose his eye. This was due to their (MMPC) incompetence in diagnosing the issue. Luckily the eye was saved but eye drops are now needed for the rest of his eye. The ocular specialist told us that he should of been diagnosed correctly the first time. In the meantime , the clinic went through a change of doctors and management which was a change for the worst. They now charge an automatic $25 for any visit on top of the other charges. The same pup had a scratchy behind where he would try to scratch it by arching his back and scooting on the rug. His behind became red and inflamed. We took him in and FOR TWO YEARS were told that he just needs to have a balm on his backside and he would be fine. We were told his anal glands needed to be emptied which we did every 5-6 weeks and costs every time. The situation didn't improve but we trusted the clinic. FINALLY we looked into another vet and I'm SO happy we did. As soon as we took our pup to URBANVET in Irvine, it was a totally different experience. The doctor took the time to carefully examine our Frenchie, taking me along into the back as he examined my dog He quickly showed me that my dog had a horrible infection , took a culture , prescribed antibiotics as well as antibiotic cream and within a week my dog was 100% better. The poor dog suffered for over two years due to their incompetence. After thousands of dollars and my poor pup suffering for a couple of years , I am so glad we made the change to this new vet. I would never recommend Mariners Mile Pet Clinic. I am beyond disappointed in their protocol. read more

Hayley and Aly are two wonderful vet techs who were so sweet and gentle with my two German Shepherds, and also very helpful getting all my questions answered and the details needed relayed to Dr Whisler. One of my pups is very anxious and kind of shy, but Dr Whisler is so sweet to her that she visibly relaxed and took a treat from her (I literally said "she won't take it") and got through her exam smoothly. My younger pup is pretty chill and easy going, very curious and interested in everything, the calm vibe reinforces her belief that there's nothing to stress about! I can't say enough about MMPC! I can't thank them enough either, for making it so pleasant and easy to get such great care for my beloved furry girls! I stayed loyal to mariners for years with my Dobermans Bam Bam & Kacie even though I'm about 40 minutes to an hour drive away. However just recently I had such a bad experience with the staff there on the phone that I'm no longer going to enroll my new 2 puppies here. For the rude staff to keep interrupting me and saying too bad it's my loss when it came to my deposit. This place is definitely unprofessional and scamming money any chance they get. I took my Doberman Bam Bam there and they recommended a cardiologist even though I know he doesn't need one bc I had it done in the past which records from hospitals show. My other Doberman passed away from it so it was tested on the male I have. I left a deposit and was told that they will let me know when is the date to bring him in. I've been out of town and just got back and picked up a call from one of the staff here saying I lost my deposit because she tried to reach me and couldn't. My response was that I never gave a confirmation but somehow my inability to respond equates to me forfeiting my deposit. Then I requested for a call from the manager and she did the same thing interrupting me while I'm speaking. Then became sarcastic about how she's not rude and giving me time to talk when she could've done that from the beginning after I called her out and mentioned that I will be filing a complaint on her unprofessionalism. Mariners Mile need to have better trained staff to represent the business. Respect should be given to customers that have paid for services from the company. The staff shouldn't be power tripping to scam money from me. I own multiple businesses and I understand from owner and customer point of view. However when staff makes a mistake, the company is liable for it. They never gave me a date and time when I gave my deposit. I had to find a new vet due to mine, retiring, I was recommended by my daughter, and I'd have to say I am very pleased with our new home and Dr. Derksen, he walked into the office and my dog was laying on the floor. He sat down and gave her the beginning of her exam on the floor. This makes me know his passion is animals. The nurse was incredibly nice. Mariners Mile is a great vet and everyone there is friendly and super sweet to the animals. I really liked how they would get down to my dogs level and always let us ok the plan before doing any procedures or charging us. My dog Ernie loved going to the there during his time here. Sadly we lost him way to young through traumatic circumstances (outside of mariner's control, at that point we were seeing a specialist for his issue). After we said goodbye to Ernie I received the sweetest card in the mail from mariner's that brought me to tears, and everyone from the clinic took the time to sign it. This review has taken me some time to write, but I feel it's important to share. My cat died minutes after leaving our appointment at Mariners Mile Pet Clinic for a routine blood pressure check. It was a tech appointment, and the tech took her to the back for about 45 minutes. Finally, Dr. Whisler brought our cat back out, and I was told that our cat did great. She said that they checked her vitals which were all good, and her blood pressure was normal. We left, and within a couple minutes, my cat collapsed in the car and died. We rushed her back to Mariners Mile Pet Clinic, but they were unable to revive her. Dr. Nichols came in and with absolutely no emotion told us that our cat was dead. We were shocked as she was fine and acting perfectly normal that morning, eating well and socializing with us like usual. I tried to ask Dr. Nichols what happened when our cat was in the back with the tech, but she pointed her finger at my chest and started yelling at me. I had never met Dr. Nichols before, but she was so rude and unprofessional to us. I cannot believe someone in the veterinary profession would act that way toward grieving pet owners whose pet just died minutes after being examined by their practice. I will never know what happened with our cat in the back during those 45 minutes when we were only there for a quick blood pressure check, but I will always regret bringing our cat to Mariners Mile Pet Clinic that day. Response to Business Manager: Thank you for your response. Since you didn't work at Mariners Mile Pet Clinic at the time of my cat's death, I would like clarify a couple points you made. The necropsy was offered to us, only after I inquired about one. I was told we could receive one for a considerable cost of about $1,000 that your clinic would charge us. While Dr. Whisler did sit with us, she could not explain why our cat suddenly died. All we were told was that it was "sudden death" with no explanation as to what caused the death minutes after a routine vet visit. We never got an answer as to how our cat's vitals were all normal when taken by your staff during her appointment, and how she could die immediately after. After we left, we never heard from Mariners Mile Pet Clinic again; No phone call, not even a sympathy card as is standard in vet practices. Nothing. read more

If there are major issues... i'd recommend going to UrbanVet instead, they actually have helped me out a lot. Pros: They call you often to check on your pet, technicians are very kind and caring, they are relatively inexpensive, they have prescription food that they sell at their location and is returnable if your pet doesn't like it. Cons: If there is a major problem they will not go above and beyond to solve it, they are not transparent (told me my cat had crystals, when i later got the report that said it did not), and they do not provide next steps/proactively tell you what to look out for/etc. read more

Our old dog Bailey was with us while on vacation in Newport Beach and it was unfortunately his time to be put to sleep. It was a holiday weekend and most places were closed or not taking animals in. We found Mariner's Mile and they were great. We were with Bailey til the end and he was put to sleep humanely and with much care in our arms. Been going here for 13 years and they ripped me off. Waited 30 days to charge me $450 and now my account is overdrawn and I'm accruing overdraft fees. Heather told me it was my fault for not keeping track of my bank transactions. I'm beyond disappointed and angry. They lost a loyal customer not only to their clerical error, but due to their condescension and inability to make things right. These are hard times and they can't just take money out of someone's account without authorization. Not to mention, I don't believe I ever asked to have my card put on file. I LOVE Mariners Mike Pet Clinic! I live in Santa Ana and drive all the way to Newport Beach because they're so great. I have been bringing my 2 male cats here for over a year now. I originally found them because I was looking at cat specialists. I called a bunch of them to compare prices and ended up choosing Mariners Mile Pet Clinic because their pricing for blood work and urinalysis were the cheapest. My cats are seniors so I do full bloodwork and urinalysis annually and physical exams biannually. I ended up returning because the doctors and receptionists really show that they care. Recently, I booked my appointment online with them for total health plus which I assumed was for a physical and bloodwork and urinalysis. However, when I arrived it was just for the bloodwork and urinalysis. Luckily the receptionist talked to the doctor and was able to squeeze in the physical. When I got home, one of the boys' eyes were tearing up like crazy. I called back the next day to see if they could schedule another appointment for me. They were able to get me an appointment for the upcoming Saturday which fit into my schedule and I was not charged for the visit itself, just medication and the eye examination. I would also like to add that I've seen both of the doctors here and they are both very knowledgeable and nice. All in all, I am very happy with Mariners Mile Pet Clinic and would 100% recommend them if you have cats! read more

ill start with a positive, absolutely LOVE Dr Whisler - she is amazing, cares, calls to check in on the situation etc - so if you decide to go here which I am not saying you shouldn't, make sure you go see her and her only. Dr Dirksen on the other hand is the reason for a 1 star. I would strongly suggest that you avoid him - once he has your $$ you wont hear from him again, well until you go back there, where he will undoubtedly just run up your bill and make you feel like if you don't do what he says your pet might suffer..... Look I get its a hard job, but when they throw in needless tests, then charge HIGHER than the absolute highest of anywhere around its a turn off. when asked how long the IV of antibiotics should take to make an effect on the cat, the receptionist said "Dr said 24-48 hours - so we need to wait 48 hours" I said it has been 48 hours - she responded with "barely - you need to give it more time".... So I finally spoke to the Dr and he changed his tune and said it takes 7-14 days to take effect, but we are glad to run more tests" (back to running up the bill...) I'd gladly pay whatever is needed to keep the animals healthy, but after the last experience with Dr D, I googled the line items on the receipt, WOW, they have lube, they could have used it when I was bent over....... Oh, BTW, the cat is still sick, had a UTI and after calling the vet multiple times I got him on the phone and the lame excuse was "we are getting new phones lines, sorry I did not call you back" - $700 to confirm the cat had a UTI - and to the gal that answered the phone at the vet, id suggest you not respond with "things are expensive these days" when asked if $700 is a normal amount to treat a UTI in a 7# cat. Left the conversation with Dr D asking that Dr Whisler call me when she has time - he said "he's not sure she will have time to call me, but he will leave a note" - Thanks Dr D, for what I am not sure. (PS: This was on Wednesday, it's now Saturday and..... still no call.....). read more

I was totally impressed with this clinic! My dog has been butt licking, ear flapping, and paw licking. I took her to my old vet. They checked her stool for parasites, expressed her glands, and sent her on her way. Nothing changed. I decided I needed a second opinion. Or maybe a new vet, so I called Mariners Mile. Wow..what a difference. First, their staff. Totally nice, knowledgeable, and clearly care for animals. By the time we left, my pup had a cytology shot for allergies, a test of ear bacteria (positive) with the insertion of drops that should hold for 30 days, but hopefully longer, her glands expressed, refilled with an antibiotic ointment, that was again expressed as a rinse, and then refilled with the ointment again. And she got chews to assist with anal gland support. All the time cared for by a doc who listened patiently to every word I said and provided intelligent feedback and instruction. We talked about any forward treatment plans, what I needed to watch for, and what it could mean. I have a six week follow up appointment set. THAT was a vet appointment IMHO. And while I was sitting in the waiting room, I heard staff recommend to a woman with a scared pup, to bring her by when she was in the area for a treat and a scratch to help her realize the vets office isn't a bad place. So smart. I almost hate to post this review for fear of the clinic getting swamped with new customers, thus delaying my ability to get my next appointment for my baby. However, they deserve every word. Good job, Mariners Mile Pet Clinic! I am quite hard to impress, but you obviously managed. read more

Very friendly, caring and accommodating staff. Veterinarian was excellent and communicated directly with me regarding my dog. I've been struggling to find a clinic in Orange County that offers acupuncture for animals outside of typical M-F 8am-5pm. I stumbled across a post on Instagram and found out this clinic has Saturday hours for acupuncture! Woohoo! Dr Boyker is kind, compassionate, and very knowledgeable. She really took the time to get to know what has been going on with my dog Zuri and her medical history. She has been wonderful during her appointments. Zuri loves coming to the clinic and is been making great progress. She's back to jumping into bed and into the car, before I had to lift her into both. It's so nice to see her feeling so much better and moving better. The staff here has been great and a room was ready for me right at my appointment times (no waiting). Hands down THE best vet anywhere! Dr Bowen healed our German Shorthaired Pointer who had Giardia, Ecoli & pseudomonas pneumonia. The worst strain a dog can get. We had been to 3 other vets, who all failed. Dr Bowen to the rescue and put our little girl on a path to healing with finally the right medication combo, among other things. She is incredibly talented, and a true intellectual! I'm forever grateful to Dr Bowen and her talented team. I will always only see Dr Bowen!! read more

We've been long time clients of Mariners and Dr. Nichols. A few weeks ago, we were in need of a fairly immediate appointment with Dr. Nichols (Wednesday). We were told by the front desk that she was entirely booked that day and was off for the rest of the week. The only available doctor was the relief doctor, Dr. Derksen and we made an appointment with him for an x-ray. He did not state who Mariners recommended for further treatment but gave us the name of 3 offices we could call. We were also told by Dr. Derksen that Dr. Nichols was semi-retired and that she was only working part time now; also that Mariners was under new ownership. We did go to the website and found it was new but made no mention of new ownership and no backgrounds for Dr. Derksen, nor any of the other personnel or vet techs only Dr. Whisler and Dr. Nichols. If you are in need of an immediate appointment for your pet then I recommend that you go to Urban Vet or another. read more
