After a full workup, she discovered that our Chow wasn't "just old" she was actually dealing with serious kidney and liver issues that had been missed before. Dr. Lepera is our go-to vet after our previously loved vet decided to retire. The staff of Mesa West is amazing, courteous, knowledgeable, and understanding. The cost is very reasonable & they have always informed us upfront about any procedures they recommend. It is very easy to get an appointment & they even offer drop-off appointments; very open to working with your schedule. We have 2 cats, Pantera the extremely friendly cat & Sefé, a very opposite cat. Pantera has had 2 surgeries due to random bouts of pica & both times, the staff & Dr. Lepera have been extremely understanding & courteous. The 1st time Pantera became ill, we had no idea what was going on & neither did the 3 other places we took him to before taking him to Mesa West. Looking at all the different bills, Mesa West was by far the most reasonable (the most expensive place being $60K) & they were able to perform the surgery right away while other places had a lead time of at least a week, which one of the places said Pantera wouldn't make it that long. Our cat was completely healthy prior to visiting Mesa West Pet Hospital (in Costa Mesa) to get spayed on October 16, 2025. Cake was fun-loving and full of life!! She was only 1.5 years old and perfectly healthy. Cake is now dead 3-4 days after their staff did surgery on her. We took her to an emergency hospital, where they said she was in critical condition!!! They spent the day trying to rehydrate her and they did tests on her but they said she was too far gone! My son and I are completely devastated. We cannot believe that we trusted them with part of our family and now she is just suddenly gone. --------------- Mesa West just tried to respond to a review I left on Google. They lied and said that we said no to doing blood tests on her prior to the surgery. That is untrue. They did not offer them but added $200+ to our bill without explaining. We asked if the blood tests they had added to the bill were necessary before the surgery and they said no. They said the blood tests could be done at a later date at a future appointment. I am shocked that they are indirectly blaming our cat's death on us when they were the ones who did this. And this is not slander... The public should know what this place did. I want to start off by saying that Dr. Lepera is amazing, a very attentive and caring person. We drove many hours to bring our cat to Mesa West Pet Hospital to see Dr. Lepera as she was recommended to us by people we trust. We originally live in the bay area and had taken our cat Lucy to our local vet because she kept vomiting and we knew something wasn't right. They did x-rays and found that she had objects in her stomach, we were quoted a really high number and consulted with Dr. Lepera asking if we could drive down to bring Lucy to her. Dr. Lepera Requested the information from the vet we were seeing asked if Lucy was stable enough to transport her. Once we insured, she was stable we drove down to do the surgery at Mesa West pet Hospital. Dr. Lepera was super informative and Honestly, so caring towards us and our cat. We were able to remove the object from our cats stomach as well as get her fixed all in the same day. Of course, Dr. Laura said that if Lucy was stable enough to also get her fixed that she would depending on How well she was doing during the surgery. The surgery went great and Lucy recovered so well! I have attached photos of the object that was in her stomach, as well as as pictures of her as she was recovering. Thankfully, now she has flourished into a beautiful adult cat And is living her best life all thanks to Dr. Lepera! OUTRAGGED!!! Do not fucking come here! At first, I had a great experience and then my TWO dogs were left with an ugly scar from their spayed/neutered service! That they said would go down once it's healed/swelling goes down. Also, my dog had to be carried out of this place because they were in so much pain! I brought my 14-year-old ridgeback mix to this hospital a couple of weeks ago for a checkup...The staff was so extremely loving to my dog who it's extremely nervous whenever we go to the doctor's office but with this team she was wagging her tail and she even had some treats in treatment. She left wagging her tail which never happens with previous vet visits at our former hospital. The veterinary nurse that came in to get the history for my old girl got down on the ground gave her lots of love and just made her and myself feel very comfortable. This is definitely my new hospital!!!!! I have an appointment to bring my cat in next week. I'm very happy with the service received. what absolutely sold me on this hospital besides the loving staff is the fact that they gave me a detailed invoice and explained each thing in great detail. This hospital has saved the life of two of my cats. First, I had a senior tortie who had lost over 7lbs (half her weight) due to stomatitis in her mouth. All other hospitals gave me prices for tooth removal at $7-10k and that just is not possible for most average people. Dr Lepera did it for $1200 and did all follow-up appointments for free. Today, I took in my youngest cat. She was the only one of my six not yet fixed, and despite her super young age (less than a year, indoor only), she developed pyometra, which is a uterine infection usually found in older unfixed cats, not usually ones as young as my kitten. Pyometra is fatal if not treated in time. They got me in at 930am (I called at 8:20am) and they took my kitten in for surgery by 1pm. The surgery went well, and they told me it was good I brought her in because my kitten would have died within days! They have saved two of my cats from critical, life-threatening conditions for around $3k COMBINED. Thats half the price I was quoted for ONE and it included multiple different tests, diagnostics, and medications. The staff is friendly and compassionate and knowledgable. They are transparent about what they will be charging you, and they don't push things beyond ensuring they are clear about why they are making the recommendations they are making. This place will do their best to protect your pet. They aren't God, they can't save every animal that comes in, but if they can't, it won't be from negligence, lack of competency, or lack of compassion. No matter what your pet needs, you can rest assured that if its possible to treat, they will treat at the best price available locally. I have taken my dog here handful of times but my recent experience ensures we will not be back. We originally had a 12pm appointment for a check up and a few vaccines and when we arrived we waited in the lobby for about 20 minutes before getting checked in. Once checked in and weighed we were brought into an exam room where we met with an assistant who weighed my dog again and let me know that the vet would be in soon. We then proceeded to wait 40 minutes in the room with no one ever coming to check in on us. I eventually had to return to work so I left the room and tried to let someone know we had to leave but there was no one at the receptionist desk or anywhere to be seen. We left and I decided to give them a call to let them know we had left, but I could not get ahold of anyone on the phone either. I called again about 15 minutes later just to ensure they know we left and finally got ahold of someone. We had decided after that experience that we would just rather go somewhere else but then a few days later we got a call from the receptionist apologizing for the experience we had and offered to get us a new appointment and also offered us a discount if we came back in. I thought it over and decided to give them another try. I confirmed with the receptionist over the phone exactly which vaccines and tests that I wanted to have done and also confirmed a few that I did not want done and then I scheduled an appointment. I had to be at work so my wife offered to take our dog in. I had let my wife know that I had confirmed which services would be done and it was all set and that all she would have to do is take our dog in. My wife was able to take our dog in and then afterwards gave me call saying how it was more expensive than she expected and that's when I discovered that they ran the tests that I had explicitly said I did not want to have run and it cost an additional $185. This was absolutely infuriating to find out, especially after explicitly confirming with the receptionist that I did not want those tests done. The other kicker was that the "discount" they gave us was a 1.8% discount - $10.50 off a $569.80 bill. An absolutely insulting discount that shouldn't even be considered a discount. After learning about them charging us for tests I did not want and then only giving us a 1.8% discount, I gave them a call to express my frustration and the receptionist said they were sorry and that the vet would be giving me a call back to discuss the issue. That was over 2 weeks ago and I have not heard back from anyone. We will absolutely never return to this vet after this experience and would advise that you don't either. read more

And until you authorize, they won't "take your dog to the treatment area" until you've signed off. But I REALLY APPRECIATE SEEING THE PRICES PRIOR TO SIGNING OFF FOR TREATMENT/MEDICATIONS. *They are not open on weekends--The notice of their hours of operation are posted at Entrance, and at check-in. The 24/7 Emergency Vet Information is on their voicemail and information is also provided at the check-in desk. My puppy is now seven! And he's healthy and happy! After a fecal test completed at Mesa west my dog tested positive for Giardia. However I just had surgery and am unable to drive to the vet clinic. When attempting to figure out how to get her prescription it became an impossible task. I reached out to other nearby vet clinics and all of them requested that Mesa West send over their prescription and Mesa West refused. Additionally, Mesa West refused to send the prescription to an online delivery service. The only thing Mesa West sent us were her test results, which are not enough for other veterinary clinics to complete a prescription. When asked their suggestion was that I drive post-surgery. When that was not an option they suggested I send my primarily caregiver. I used to travel an hour to Mesa west because I liked their service. I was committed to this pet hospital. However, upon telling me that my dog needs medications and I am in a situation where I cannot pick them up, they offered no solutions. After a year, they were willing to lose us as clients because I could not drive because I had literally just gotten out of surgery. read more

I was infuriated for a reason when the nurse grabbed my dogs head in front and put him in a headlock while he had the muscle on. My dog looked at me helplessly as I told the nurse you are squeezing him and to stop and she didn't listen. My pup also has seizures and when oxygen is cut off they should know this. We took our dog Remy to Mesa West Pet Hospital for an anesthesia dental cleaning and many teeth extractions and Dr. Lepera and her staff were so great! Our initial visit was for his vaccinations and blood test to make sure he was okay for an anesthetic cleaning and Dr. Lepera explained the procedure to us and they also broke down the pricing to make sure we knew what we were paying for. On the day of the procedure, I was super nervous but Dr. Lapera and her staff were very sweet and reassuring.
