Visited on a Saturday morning and after a quick wait, we had the most delicious breakfast. I can vouch for the pecan pancakes with butter syrup. We made sure to visit again the next day before we left town. My order was slightly wrong but our waitress was quick to get it taken care of. I highly recommend giving this place a try when you're in New Bern. * I would recommend moving the host stand closer to the front door. This restaurant has the best Southern breakfast in downtown New Bern, NC! While other people are Black Friday shopping, filling their carts, my husband and I would rather fill our bellies (as if we really need it after being stuffed the previous day!) My husband alllwaaayyysss orders the Hungry Farmer and soommetimes will change it up, if I suggest it, but it has everything you want in a breakfast! I usually order something a little smaller and steal his Dutch Potatoes because that is my favorite side. I could probably eat a whole casserole of it, it's that delicious! If you still have room or want dessert for later, they have a bakery case filled with cupcakes, muffins, pies, and cookies! Our favorite is the Peanut Butter Pie. My wife and I came here for breakfast while in town for a wedding. We used the yelp waitlist app to get checked in. In total, the wait was about 20 minutes and during that time we walked around town. For food I ordered the chicken and waffles. It came with their signature maple butter syrup. The food was very good! Why this is a 5 star for me is that the meal was very tasty, the chicken to waffle ratio was perfect, the uniqueness of the syrup was new and worked really well, and the quantity was very filling for the price. Love this southern style breakfast/lunch place. I've been here a few times now, this being first post Covid, they have changed up things inside seating wise and their front area seems like a whole lot of wasted space but there's probably a reason for that! Front area meaning, hostess area, and baked goods to go. We got seated straight away , I was amazed how busy this place was on a Tuesday morning. Didn't take me long to realize why! They have a great menu, all your basic breakfast items, and some lunch mainstays . They are open from 7am to 2pm everyday, with breakfast being their thing so served all day. Great service , friendly, always checking in on us. They really do have a great menu, the three of us all got some for, of what we like for breakfast, I got egg whites, wheat toast and home fries, I would have loved to just add a cinnamon roll as theirs look to die for with their signature butter sauce glaze. The size of them would blow your mind. Maybe next time, when my other two friends are not on weight watchers! My food was great, just what I needed carby and the eggs were perfectly dry like I asked. I love their bread, which they bake in house, and you can buy a loaf to go. The home fries were seasoned and crunchy and not oily like some I've eaten. One of my friends got the veggie omelette with wheat toast, she said Omelette was good wih just enough cheese and veggies, she loved the toast too. Also on the table the turkey sausage was a hit, and the grits, not my thing but she loved them. Great coffee here too with their lovely red mugs which I also want but do I really need another mug! I got a lemon bar to go from their baked goods section, big slab of goodness. Nice light base and sweet tart filling. Delicious. Definitely must get item. I see why it's always busy here, all the plates of food I saw looked amazing, chicken and waffles looked just ridiculously like a huge plate umm yes I want that! Terrible wait, the queue system is wild as you basically make a reservation and then leave to come back at some point which is not communicated by the wait staff. As a party of two, it seemed that bigger parties always took precedent over your place in line. Having the yelp queue available showed 4 parties of 2 ahead of us, and then several party sizes after us...and still multiple parties were sat before any of the 2 persons. We watched them seat an elderly lady with a prosthetic leg upstairs...food is good, but that has never been the problem. Just go to Yoders in Grifton, at least that location is organized. read more

We tried Baker's Kitchen on a Friday morning in October. My meal was a resounding..."OK" at best. I tried the biscuits and gravy and was rewarded with 2 biscuits that were dry, tough, and chewy; it would not be surprisingly to learn they were the previous day's leftovers. The gravy was just OK too and really lacked much flavor. I've had better versions of this dish at Bojangles. I ordered a side of the dutch potatoes and found them fantastic. They were the highlight of my meal. Service was friendly and efficient. Our server seemed to handle the entire second floor of the restaurant by herself. That was impressive. Speaking of the second floor, it was so cold it was difficult to concentrate on anything else. I'm not sure if the air conditioner was turned down too low or it was very cold from the age of the structure. read more

We finally decided to have brunch at this highly esteemed place and it did NOT disappoint. My husband had The Hungry Farmers breakfast. Which was absolutely delicious. Portions were generous and everything was incredibly fresh. The sausage was NOT greasy and neither was the Country Fried Steak. Which is remarkable. We put our name on the waitlist while getting our nails done for a wedding we had later that day. Once we got there we waited for maybe two minutes and then they sat us. Our waitress was so sweet! Get the mixed cran orange mimosa. So good. And don't skip the cheddar biscuit! There's cheddar on top and inside. Also, the locals swear by the Dutch potatoes. Basically cheesy potato casserole. We were at Bakers Restaurant on May 14,2025 for lunch we both ordered the meatloaf it was terrible and cold, my girlfriend had squash and collards, I had string beans and sweet potato fries, of all the items that we had her collards were good and my sweet potato fries were good, the meatloaf wasn't even warm and the bbq sauce was bad, I was burping for hours afterwards, we will Never go back there again ! Our waitress was very good and very attentive. On a wonderful trip to New Bern the most disappointing thing was Sunday breakfast at Baker's Kitchen. My wife and I waited 35 minutes to be seated at a small bright table. Very clean. Our server came over quickly and brought us coffee which was good. Downhill from here. Our breakfast was delivered cold, both orders! I hate cold food. 2nd time up it was much warmer but not hot. OK we ate. The food was bland. The Dutch Potatoes were nothing more than cheesy hash browns, the butter syrup is butter with sugar. Too sweet. The sausage patties made me quite sick having to make it back to our air b&b double time. I'm so sorry we ever ate there and will never, ever do so again. read more

Our large family stopped in on a recent Saturday morning to this well-known breakfast\lunch place in historic New Bern. Atmosphere is quaint with street level and upstairs dining. Upstairs you can really see the exposed brick and historic architecture. Staff is very friendly and attentive, even when crowded. They sell pastries and cookies to go with plenty of other trademarked products from coffee mugs to their famous bottled butter syrup. The menu has all the usual breakfast items you'd find in the South. Besides the pancakes, eggs, and french toast, there are grits, home made biscuits, sausage gravy, and chicken & waffles. One item you must try is their special Baker's Dutch potatoes which is has potatoes, onions, and a creamy cheese sauce like you would find on Mac & Cheese. It was so good. Prices are fair too! I gave it 3 Stars because other than the Dutch potatoes and the home made biscuits, everything was just common, plain breakfast food. I've seen a lot more choices and creativity in any NJ diner I've been to. With this great location, what with the year round tourists, I think they should add a few more creative items to the menu. Shake it up a bit. I mean great staff, great place, BUT it ALWAYS depends on the food that puts you on the map. I think the owners may just be complacent on the fact that there really is nowhere else to go in the area for a decent breakfast with a nice atmosphere.
