They're getting knocked down for the slow service. Ordering was slow, and food coming out was slower. From the time our first item came out to the last 3, it was over an hour. There were 8 of us in our group, but it was not packed in there, many open tables on a Sunday afternoon. We had to complain to the manager to get the last 3 meals - and then they miraculously appeared in 2 minutes. I'm guessing they were sitting in the back. Food was hit and miss. The chips and salsas were good, guac had large chunks of avocado in it which was nice, but also radishes, which was weird. My chicken taco was cold, but I decided not to complain because our waitress was not on point. The corn salad was good - but it was served cold - we all thought it was going to be warm, which we thought would have made it better. The beans tasted of beer - which was one of the ingredients, but it was overpowering in a bad way. So - they're trying to be a hip street taco place, but the execution leaves a lot to be desired. My bf asked for a coffee, they don't have it. We asked for dessert, nope on that too. What restaurant doesn't have coffee? Buy a Keurig then for the few times people ask if you don't want to make a pot. read more

Hmm wanted to like this place more. The margaritas were way too sour. Tried both the Bakersfield and Premium and the house mix that they use was just too overpowering. We ended up asking for another shot to tame the sour flavor. Got the trio as a starter and thought that was really good, all of them were tasty. For tacos, got the Al Pastor, Fish and Shrimp and to be honest didn't like any. The Al Pastor was overpowering in pineapple, very little pork flavor. The Fish was fried, which they just described as "crispy" on the menu- wish they would have just told me that, would have ordered something different. The shrimp was SUPER spicy, which wasn't clear on the menu. I couldn't eat it. We sat at the bar and I found the service to be pleasant and accommodating. Probably won't be back. My hubs and I went here yesterday for a late lunch. I've heard some good things about this place and based on all the reviews I was pretty excited to dine here. Overall the service was good however the food was a little underwhelming. I was expecting a POW in your mouth flavor based on the menu options and descriptions. Unfortunately a lot of food was lacking seasoning. The food wasn't bad but it wasn't fantastic either. It was just ok. The hubs and I had the taquitos + esquites for an appetizers. Those were the best bites of the meal. And we also ordered one of each taco, since they were small. The best thing about the tacos were the fresh house made tortillas. This restaurants ok, however there several other taco joints, such as Oaxaca, that I would rather go to. read more

Tacos were delicious! Also the best margarita I've ever had- pineapple margarita with a sugar rim. So good and I'm typically not a huge fan of tequila. I'm unimpressed, but it's not bad. I get a little bit spoiled living in Southwest Detroit, where the offering ranges from down-and-dirty, dank-nasty tacos that you can buy from a truck to, less frequently, your average Macomb County-friendly Tex Mex with-prepackaged-Sysco-ingredients. Bakersfield, therefore, shouldn't be compared in terms of its tacos, per se. Their tacos are good, but they're not great-- and for the price point, which is about double what you'd pay in Southwest, I'm definitely unimpressed. I will say that I really enjoyed the chips and salsa arrangement, which included two salsas and guac, and all three were really quite stupendous. This an "all other things being equal" qualifier for me and Mexican. It's not cheap. It's a great spot for a drink, especially on one of the off nights, as the place fills up with Connor and Becky from Quicken Loans and every kid whose parents told them when they were growing up to never set foot in the city limits of Detroit but suddenly can afford a condo down the block-- and it gets very loud. The food and ambiance at Bakersfield have always been great, but service has significantly gone downhill in the past several months. The last two times I have gone, both during relatively slow times of day for dine-in, the wait for food has been awful and the staff always has to apologize over and over again for it. 1. Atmosphere: fun, urban. I love how the layout is not constricting and the space is used so well. The lighting can accommodate friendly and romantic. The bar is well lit and stocked and is the centerpiece of the room. in the summers, its fun to sit on the backyard patio thing with some drinks 2. the wait can be long on the weekends but the most ive waited was 30 minutes. The staff is efffecient. 3. the food is delightful. I did see some posts saying that the tacos are too small, but to me they are taco sized and they havent skimped out on the meat the 3 times ive been there! I love their chicken taco... so flavorful. The one thing i dislike so much is that they charge for basic chips and salsa. Its a huge personal turn off. Most people are going to come in and spend at least 10$ on a drink or something and im used to going to mexican town and having chips complimentary. Anyway, I understand charging for the guac... which is delicious and a must have. Also, it is loud, so be prepared to use your voice a bit, especially if its a weekend. After visiting Bakersfield the first time the GM reached out and invited me back to try everything again, and they did not disappoint. My salad was delicious, and our server even made it a point to accommodate my dietary concerns without any hesitation, my tacos were juicy and flavorful, not to mention the service was so fast (I almost wanted to stall a bit longer to avoid going back to work). Bakersfield has delicious food, great location and atmosphere. My friend's apartment is right by here so it's super close and we walked down. I had passed Bakersfield before on the way to Movement and noticed the breezy atmosphere with hanging lights inside and large open windows overlooking Woodward avenue and I knew I definitely needed to come back. We came on a Saturday night and there was an hour or so wait so we put our name and phone number in, and ended up just sitting at the bar and eating. We had the al pastor taco, with chile marinated pork, pineapple salsa, pickled onion and cilantro and it was super delicious! Loved the tender pork and flavorful pineapple together...so yummy! We also tried the carnitas with tomatillo crema, guacamole and red onion and the baja shrimp with chipotle lime crema, red cabbage, and it was also really delicious! The warm fresh tortilla chips and chunky guacamole were also very tasty. I also ordered the pineapple margarita and it was sooo good! If you come here definitely do yourself a favor and get the pineapple margarita. Tacos are about $4 a piece. They also have tortas and tostadas for around $8-$10. Service was great, fast, friendly and efficient. Had a great time! Would love to visit again and further explore the menu. read more

Tacos, Tacos, TACOS! So I had no idea this place even existed but I'm sure glad I do now! It's located right on Woodward in midtown and doesn't look like your typical Mexican restaurant, which is why I probably have never noticed it before. It's pretty plain on the outside but once you get inside, it's pleasantly laid back with big booths, hanging light bulbs and wooden picnic tables feels like an cool industrial barn. It's not really colorful but everything was naturally bright from the sun coming through their windows that open up completely for a nice patio feel. We started off with some chips, salsa and guac which were all yummy and tasted really fresh. That green/verde salsa is amazing, I personally thought it was the best out of all the chip dips. Now for the tacos! I tried three different tacos, the Pollo Rojo and the Al Pastor I got with black beans, instead of their respected meats and also the Baja Shrimp taco. The Pollo Rojo had a chili salsa, queso fresco, onion, lime crema and cilantro. It was delicious and perfectly cheesy. The Al Pastor was topped with onion, cilantro and pineapples and was soooooo good! This was my favorite taco because of how well the pineapples and other ingredients tasted together. The Baja Shrimp taco was phenomenal! This was my very first time ever having a shrimp taco and it was everything! The breading on the shrimp was perfectly seasoned and fried for a taco combo that has forever changed me. I just can't belive I've been so wrong, all these years... Shrimp does belong in tacos! One of my favorite places to eat is Imperial in Ferndale. A buddy told me this place was better in terms of taste. So I felt I had to try this out. The tacos at both places are very similar. And because both taste delicious along with the overall atmoosphere of each of them, I rate them both 5 out of 5 stars. Technically, I'd give this one 4.8 out of 5, so Imperial I do feel edges this place out. Let me focus on why... I had 3 tacos: Fish, Arbol (Spicy) and Al Pastor. By far my favorite was the Arbol. It was very hot, tasted amazing and I loved it. The problem is, it's not always on the menu. And it's the only spicy taco they had. And essentially why Imperial, I think, is the overall winner. They make 3 of their own sauces, 2 of which are hot and it's why I go there often. The Al Pastor was delicious as well. It had a chili sauce that tasted pretty amazing and the little pineapple chunks sprinkled on were a good balance of different flavors. The fish taco was good but I did feel it could have used a little something more to add some flavor. But still worth getting. They serve a limited amount of cocktails, which is also why Imperial edges them out in my opinion. They have more. At Bakersfield I had a Cucumber Margarita - which is exactly what it sounds like, I was glad they added the cucs! In terms of the menu as a whole, I do think Bakersfield has more of a selection that I would like than Imperial does. Imperial sells hot dogs as well as tacos and apparently they are really good but I'm not a fan of hot dogs. Given Bakersfield also has ensaladas and tostadas I'd be much more willing to divert from just tacos. Service was excellent here. I really liked our server. She was easy to talk to and had no problem answering our questions. Due to a miscommunication which wasn't even her fault - ans was really mine - I got the wrong drink originally. She was more than willing to replace it and even took $1.00 off my bill. She did not need to do that and it was a very nice gesture. Pricewise, Bakersfield is a bit more expensive than Imperial as well. Right next door in the same building is the New Order Coffee Roasters too. It may not seem like fit, but I had no problem getting a delicious coffee from there and then jumping into some tacos and margarita's right after! read more
