It's an amazing feat to pull the best parking spot at 5:15pm right in front of Bakersfield on Woodard Ave in Detroit.! We started visiting there the week that they first opened to half dozen times thereafter. Like I said, the parking was awesome but that was the high point of the night and it was all down hill from there. See attached pictures I don't need to write anymore.............................. I gave it 2 stars because I am the consummate optimist and love anything in a corn tortilla and hope this was a one off and maybe, just maybe give this place another chance. But as my jaw starts tightening and in the hopes my tetanus shot has not expired this place really sucked. From service, to food to whatever else goes into a good taco joint. Those rusty tins with the cheap wax paper that I easily tore through mixing the acidic dressing of my salad with the rich iron goodness of that rusty tin probably is what made it somewhat flavorably. Great restaurant. Shrimp taco. Mushroom taco were excellent. Salad was great. I can't remember the name of the salad I had but it started with an L. Our waiter, Billy, was the best. So friendly and so knowledgeable with menu. Suggested two tacos and a small salad for me and it was perfect. Also I wanted a lower sugar drink and suggested the skinny margarita. Great choice. We all loved all dinner. My son had 4 tacos and it was plenty. My husband had 2 short Rib tacos and a full salad and he took half home. Bathroom was cool and clean. Highly recommend. Great prices. Great interior with nice big garage doors that open up when the weather is nice, I'm starting to notice that many different places in Detroit have a similar inside theme to this place. The menu is actually surprisingly small, they do offer you several different taco choices but I was surprised a Mexican place didn't offer nachos I think that was a first for me. The tacos are excellent I recommend trying as many as you can with a group of friends. Pricing is not bad at all too it was nice to be able to get a draft of modelo for 4 dollars, it seems harder and harder today to find a non domestic beer on tap for less than 5 bucks. The cocktails are pretty good and again some really great prices for what you get, again not very many cocktails on the menu but i'm sure they could make you whatever you wanted. Easy parking in the area ( for now ) but will see since its getting so built up now. Good stop if you want great tacos at fair prices. read more

Great experience with this place tonight. It was packed, tons of people coming in the from st. Patty's day pre partying and the staff managed them all well. My server, Paige if my memory serves me correct after the margaritas was great, even with the rush we always had full drinks and the kitchen had our order out faster than I would have thought. The food was all fresh, hot, and great. The Quac was great and so was the queso dip. The tacos were all good and interesting combos of flavors and good. I live in Southern California, the land of delicious and plentiful Mexican food. While visiting my friend, who lives a few minutes outside of Detroit, she was lamenting how you can't get a decent taco in Michigan. Based on the Yelp rating, we decided to take a chance on Bakersfield. When I read on the menu that the corn tortillas were homemade, I knew we were in for a treat. We each started off with one of the specialty margaritas, which were so refreshing! We ordered an assortment of tacos, all of which could easily contend with the best tacos in Southern California. (The short ribs were especially the bomb!) Bakersfield's decor is very hip and now, with their picnic table seating, although they also have regular tables, which is good. Aside from the delicious tacos and cocktails, I was most impressed with our server, who was attentive and went out of her way to accommodate my friend's dietary restrictions, to the point of checking with the cook staff and returning to report on certain ingredients. That level of service is a rare find in any city. Combine that with delicious food and beverages, and you have a recipe for a successful restaurant. read more

Came here on opening day by chance - my husband and were driving down Woodward deciding where to eat dinner and saw all the lights and decided to stop here. We ordered: 2 glasses of sangria, 2 shrimp, 2 brisket, 1 huitalocoche, 1 carnitas, and 1 fish taco. Everything was tasty and fresh. The sangria wasn't the best tasting but definitely strong. The staff was really nice but a little too pushy (maybe because it was the first day). I asked about if they had any house hot sauce and the waitress immediately was trying to push the habanero sauce on us ($1 extra) instead of letting us try the other sauces first. The price point was $4-5 per taco which is a little steep considering the tacos are average size but since the quality of the ingredients is above average, it somewhat justifies the price. I'm in love! Let me just say this wayyy loud "FOODIES THIS IS FOR US" . IF your are not a Foodie or you plan to dine with a very picky eater then steer way clear. Queso the best I have tasted, I blindly ordered several dishes and a few that were suggested by the bartender. Everything was fresh and flavorful and very very tasty. Not to mention they have a tequila bar which can cater to any preference. The service was friendly and the atmosphere was very comfortable. I will recommend to anyone trying to decide on a great spot without the traditional fixings (burger.chicken,fries). Great shopping in the area as well. My boyfriend wanted to check this place out. First impression is how nice the atmosphere is. The lights are really pretty and I love the set up of the restaurant. That was the highlight of the visit. We got seated next to a big garage door and spent the entire night freezing, the place was so loud that we couldn't even hear our waitress even when we were trying to ask her questions about the menu. I got two tacos, the pork pineapple one was okay, but the chicken one I had (don't remember the names) was horrible; dry chicken, bland, and gross. The best part of my meal was probably the chips that came with the salsa. I used to live in Cincinnati, so when I heard that Bakersfield was opening a location in Detroit, I had to check it out. What an experience. We had the margaritas, queso, guac, and several tacos. Everything was perfect. We were also thoroughly impressed with the service. A restaurant's first weekend can tend to be a little rough, but Bakersfield Detroit is already running like a well oiled machine. Sat at a table for 15 minutes no one greeted us. Moved to the bar, poor service there too. Unfriendly, had to ask for what we wanted instead of them checking on us and making sure we were ok. Every time we asked for something we got eye rolls or no response back. Due to time crunch we couldn't switch restaurants. Have been in the industry for 10 years and haven't experienced such horrible service. My first yelp review I've ever done and it is more for the manager and owner to realize the staff they're supplying jobs to. I've been here three times. The food is really good. I've seen complaints about the margaritas but I've had the special on 2 visits and have no complaints. I like the service and the atmosphere. However, I'm over 40. If you are over 40 you probably won't like the atmosphere. It is incredibly loud. Really. Loud. I gave it 3 tries because it's good and thought it was just that particular day. Came here late on an Sunday evening. No significant wait for a table. Liked the Taco's for a non-Mexican restaurant they were hipsterish very good. Decently priced. The fish taco had a nice sized piece of fish on it. the pulled pork taco was a bit light on the pork. I do not like cilantro and they made substitutions easily. Way to go!! The chips and salsa were good. The guacamole was excellent with some chunks of avocado in there (I like it that way not totally pureed). Good drinks. A good time. would return. read more

Bakersfield was amazing on sunday! Had an issue with our food without even asking them to take off one taco they replaced the taco right away and took care of our bill.
