Stumbled upon this bakery while running errands one morning. The shop is in a smaller strip mall along Mission so it can be easily driven past. The gentleman was very nice and gave some excellent recommendations for breads to try. I was surprised to see 2 different sized concha's which are my favorite, and my husband has never tried it. Absolutely delicious. I was sad to hear they were sold out of tamales as I've heard they're really good but I guess it just means I'm coming back to give them a try! read more

Absolutely horrible customer service! Dry pastries. I don't know what happened. I used to come here and the customer service was good and so were the bakeries. But the man that I saw the last few times was incredibly rude and very unwelcoming. And the bakeries are not the same, they are very dry! This Mexican Bakery has very traditional breads. They are amazingly delicious, I love them with my coffee. The store front is kind of small. The day we arrived (we arrived early) it was just us. Most of the items are self serve, aside from items in the cooler display. Their tamales are amazing, especially the chicken tamales. I think their tamales were the biggest hit. I love sweets and I love fresh baked good so I stopped in to check it out. I bought a few fresh baked goods but I saw they have tamales fresh on Saturday afternoon. This was Sat morning so I said when will these tamales be ready. The owner said this is my wife's family recipe and her deal. She said come back after 2. I came back and bought 8 tamales. CHICKEN CHILE TAMALES give me 20 of them! I got only 2 for a quick meal after my kids pediatric appointment and boy do i regret it. They are soft moist and they are a man sized portion as i say. Good amount of meat, and i will be bringing back hubby because i did not share lol. I got myself a nutty cinnamon muffin and my kid a smiley face cookie. I should have saved mine for my morning coffee but i couldnt help eating it all up as soon as i got home. I hope to come back for some bollio rellenos soon. Great little shop close to work and home. I remember hearing about them from a business card I got from the laundromat. I visited and took some photos of their pan dulce and pastries before bringing a box to work. They enjoyed the sweet bread and so did some of the other departments that were passing through. Happy Hour seems to be a little more difficult to assemble, but we all agreed that having a department get together once or twice a month would be great for boosting team moral and why not with some freshly made pan dulce? New Mexican Bakery in town! It's open every day almost all the time, they have pan dulce, cakes, desserts, cookies, and tamales! They can make custom orders as well. We got more than 5 pieces of pan dulce, 4 tamales, 1 flan and it was only $25! The staff is really nice, we'll be coming back soon. read more

I just came back from Bakery San Jorge. I was excited to read about another new bakery in San Marcos that had recently opened and that they sell tamales. Well, I was a bit disappointed. The shop is very small and the clerk was very nice and answered my questions. Btw, they also sell tamales so I bought 4 pork. They had racks of sweet bread and I was delighted to see a variety of my favorites. I ordered champurrado and it was delicious...sweet, thick and hot. The bread was so-so. I normally love the "elote" sweet bread but this one was crunchy and stale. The pork tamal had bits of rice, what?! I've never had tamales with pork and rice filling...no bueno. So excited for a new bakery close to home. I bought carrot cake and it was the worst I've ever had! Dry , stale and no flavor but sugar. I might as well dropped $8 in the trash which is exactly where the cake went. They might be great with Mexican tamales and such but it has a sign BAKERY. Just stopped by this local bakery to see what they have. The pastries, cakes and cookies look delicious. Unfortunately the employee working today lacked basic customer service and was rude. You could tell he didn't want to be there. Also if you use a debit card they charge you 50 cents extra. I won't be going back. read more

It's a small little shop that offers Mexican sweet bread and tamales. The bread is really good but the tamales are even better. Best red tamales I have had in a while. The masa is extremely soft and you can really see and taste the chunks of meat. Service was very quick and friendly. read more

Only leaving this review in attempt to give constructive criticism. This bakery has a lot of potential but the last 2 times we have gone, the bread has been stale and hard. The first time was disappointing but we gave it a second chance and we were disappointed again. BE CAREFUL!!! My elderly mother came here the other day and the cashier was very friendly and chatted her up. With all the chatting she quickly paid and left. Later when she got home I noticed that the price charged was excessively high for what my mom bought. There was no itemized breakdown so we couldn't see the price of each item. A few days later my mom when back and said they might have overcharged her for her things last time. What I presume is the owner said she was sorry and that her daughter is new so she gets confused and might have accidentally charged her for the wrong items and or assigned wrong prices. However, my dad went a separate time and AGAIN the same thing happened to him. I told them not to go anymore since this is clearly a scam. Distracting elderly customers by chatting them up and overcharging them for items. The receipt is just a lump sum so it is even easier to do this to customers. Please double check receipts and item prices before leaving this establishment. read more

Panaderia San Jorge was such a pleasant surprise especially before the holidays. Their chicken tamales are delicious and made daily. They also have Cafe De La Olla and champurrado. Their sweet bread is delicious. We ordered an apple tart and a pumpkin tart, they were ready as requested. We already tasted the pumpkin tart and it is awesome.
