My "main dish" was the custard ball (or bomb, or something like that) and there was so much custard inside...JUST how I love it. I would be sure to never ever look at what goes in to any of those donuts, but I also think that ignorance is bliss. Try the kronut and the custard donut with chocolate frosting! Bakery Unlimited is my go-to bakery for Pączkis! Every year, I buy at least a half dozen and I've never been disappointed. You have to try the prune, it's my favorite. They have a large selection of other flavors and they keep an ample supply during that time of year. I have to admit, the Kronuts are pretty scrumptious. I've never had the original for comparison, but I'd almost consider working out more so that I could eat these every day. Almost. The cakes are good, and they always have a wide selection. Most recently, I had the German chocolate cake. The filling and the cake were delicious. This place has been around for quite a while. The chocolate cronut is to die for!!! After driving by this bakery for months, I finally gave in and decided to try their cronuts. So glad I did because they are delicious!!! I tried it both at room temperature and heated up (just a few seconds in the toaster oven) and both ways were delicious!!! We ordered a Minnie Mouse birthday cake for my daughter's 1st birthday party. I sent in a picture of the cake I wanted but told them they could do whatever. The cake was better than I expected and the writing on the cake was even done in the Disney font. We ordered chocolate with peanut butter filling and it was delicious! I gave an extra star for excellent customer service! This is a quaint little bakery located in West Toledo, it's in a busy location and you can easily miss it if driving too fast. Their prices are reasonable and affordable. The doughnuts and cookies are my favorite. My son loves the seasonal decorated cookies and looks forward to what new decoration will be next! The cakes are creative and beautifully decorated. I love the little Yorkie doggie shaped cakes - they're too adorable to pass by! The staff is very accommodating; I asked for sprinkles to be added to my son's cupcake and Andrea was more than happy to do so. Good customer service means a lot these days. There are other bakeries and cupcakeries in Toledo, but Bakery Unlimited is just as good and less expensive. As far as Bakeries go, this place wreaks of failure...Allow me to continue... The Environment: The decor and general appeal is outdated and dirty. Some of the lights in the donut cases were out. There's no seating, so expect to get your donut...and gtfo. The Product: Visually unappealing, donuts were covered in plastic and had FLIES trapped and crawling underneath. Sunday mid-morning... donuts were already dry and stale tasting. The cream filled ones had no more than a pencil's width of cream which was really disappointing since the whole point of going there was for fresh cream filled donuts. Yes, I`m going to be one of the dementors. I tried to order a carrot cake from Bakery Unlimited, but found that they do indeed have limitations. I was advised that they will not be making new cakes until Friday, and they didn't have time to accomodate me on Thursday. I was disappointed since I have been going to the bakery on Secor since I moved into town in 1991. The front person was very rude. I felt like I was interrupting her day. I did`nt buy any rolls and donuts either. I thought I would call the other location and received a very brisk, again rude, reception when I asked if they also make cakes at the second location. Some of my favorites are at this bakery. I have been here more times than I can count. The donuts are very good. The only one I do not like is their cruller. My favorite are the Bear Claws. I remember growing up and Dad going to Hinkle's to get donuts in the morning. He would always get the bear claws as well. Good to see they are still around. I have tried their cookies, Kronuts, and many other items. By far, the best item out of this Bakery is the Donut cake! I have liked this place in the past, but today I had the worst service ever. For the last three years for my boyfriend's birthday per his request I order a cheesecake that is frosted like a birthday cake. Well when I picked it up today, only the top was frosted and that was done very poorly. When I politely expressed concerns that this was not what I requested, the response from their employee was that I ordered it wrong. When I went to respond to her stating I have ordered it previous years to be frosted like a birthday cake and it didn't look like this, she walked away from the counter like I was not talking. I had prepaid when I ordered it, otherwise I would have walked out and left it on the counter. I couldn't ask for a refund because the employee had walked away and was not acknowledging me. I am sorry, but I will never go in there again and will no longer recommend this business as I have in the past. Update: the manager responded to the email and apologized for the employees rudeness, but is sticking to it is not how they frost cheesecake and no response to the horrible job they did with what they did frost (sent her pictures). I went there many times, but I went there after work tonight, and the lady was very rude and not pleasant. I told her I wanted some cookies, and she said there down there on the end, She didn't ask if she could help me just there down on the end. I don't know if I will go back. Always go there for the Paczkis!! Best ones in town with a great variety....the one on Secor tends to be really packed on Fat Tuesday, and they sell out quickly with the ones I really like. I then head to the one on Bancroft and McCord and get mine. I've bought baked goods at both places and have to say they are pretty good. **One minor complaint was the Raspberry jelly donut I bought very recently was more "gel" than jelly. I was a little disappointed, but have to say that the frosting and the actual donut were very fresh and very good. Staff have always been friendly so no issues there. I was there a month ago to pick up a small cake for a cake walk fundraiser. I showed up about 45 minutes before close and the mature lady who was helping me was very sweet and kind. I decided on a small cake shaped like a dog. I thought it would be perfect for a cakewalk! While I was there a younger woman, who appeared to be a manager, was counting money and talking on the phone. She seemed to be in a hurry to close. The woman who was waiting on me questioned the "manager" about a smaller box for the cake. The "manager" was very rude to the woman snapping at her and embarrassing her in front of the customers in the store. I then questioned the manager about a smaller box( I was worried about the small cake tipping in the large box). She responded in a very rude tone" This is the only box we have! No one has ever questioned it or had a problem with it in the past!" I was honestly appalled by the way she spoke to the staff member and the customers! I should have walked out without a cake, but I have bought many cakes and goodies at the store without a problem and was not going to allow this woman to ruin my day! I really hope she was just having a bad day and that this is not the way she treats people on a regular basis! I have been going to this bakery for many years. Never have I been talked to so rudely and by both the clerk and the manager. I realize they have increased their business and that may be the reason they do not treat their customers as they should anymore. I guess they don't need my business. I will NOT be back. They may not miss my business but I can tell you I will not miss their rudeness and sarcasim. There are plenty of other bakeries in town and as I read the reviews on this site, I see I am not the only one that will not be doing business at Bakery Unlimited. While the baked goods are very good the customer service is horrible! I called on a Thursday to ask if it would be possible to order 5 dozen doughnuts to be picked up on Saturday morning @ 7:30 a.m. The lady (and I use that term loosely) who took the order insisted that I pay for it that day over the phone which I did. When I arrived Saturday morning at 7:45 a.m. they insisted that I placed the order for the next Saturday. Even if I did you NEVER argue with a customer EVER! I drove 30 miles from home to pick these doughnuts up for a tailgate party that morning. They did get the doughnuts ready even though the assortment was not what I actually ordered they were good and the children liked them. The adults enjoyed the 4 dozen Panera Bread bagels I ordered (which were ready to go by the way). I used to live in Toledo and absolutely loved Bakery Unlimited (my oldest son and I used to go every Saturday morning and get doughnuts and chocolate milk then watch cartoons) It took just one horrible employee to ruin this place for me forever! I work customer service and understand my customers are where my paycheck comes from! From now on I will stick closer to home I'm sure there are many wonderful bakeries in the area. read more
