I came here on 9/18/22 (Sunday) afternoon with a friend. She recommended the cakes and mentioned her office always gets cakes from Bakeshop for special occasions. My friend and I got a slice of taro cake ($7 per cake slice), and a slice of key lime pie ($6.50 per pie slice). I thoroughly enjoyed both and only wish the slices were bigger because I could've eaten an entire cake/pie by myself. The taro cake was moist and had just the right amount of taro flavor. I find the taro flavor isn't strong enough at most bakeries, and the cake texture can either be dry/crumbly or rubbery. But this cake was perfect. The buttercream frosting was also very light and not overly sweet. I liked that the layers of buttercream weren't too thick so it wasn't overpowering. The key lime pie was also delicious. The key lime custard filling was light, smooth and creamy, like biting into a cloud. The whipped cream on top was the same thickness as the key lime filling, but again was just right because it was so airy. Overall the pie had the perfect ratio of tartness to sweetness. I didn't get a chance to try their other baked goods but they also have macarons, cookies, and cupcakes. Street parking is free on weekends in downtown Arlington but can be difficult to find because it's a pretty popular area. Luckily I was able to find parking in a neighborhood about a 7 min walk away. :) Will definitely be coming back! read more

What a cute bakery! I love the atmosphere in here. The staff was friendly and welcoming. I thought they had a pretty good selection but was a little disappointed as I wanted to try some of the things they were out of. We got a slice of the strawberry shortcake with whipped cream, blueberry crumble bread/cake, macaroons, and a snickerchip cookie. The strawberry shortcake was a little drier than I might have liked but the flavor was good. Wasn't overly sweet. The blueberry crumble cake was also subtly sweet and I liked it! The snickerchip cookie (snickerdoodle and chocolate chip) was very sweet and sooo good. Normally I don't like macaroons because I think they taste like soap (I know, weird) but these literally were the best macaroons I've ever had and it made me think every other place I've been to has been making them wrong! Loved the cookies but I did not like the cupcakes as much because the frosting was way too heavy and sweet , the cakes itself was pretty light although also too sweet. Ordered an Apple pie for Thanksgiving and it looked and tasted disgusting. As a bakery you would think they'd have more pride into what they make but what they gave me looked like total slop. Quite embarrassing for them and a total waste of money for me. It was insanely sweet, and the pie crust had nearly caramelized in the fridge due to the amount of sugar. Avoid this place!! read more

I absolutely love this place! I used to go more frequently when I lived in Arlington, but made a special trip out yesterday to get a birthday cake I ordered on Saturday. Quick turn around time! The cake was delicious (lemon cake with vanilla buttercream). It was so nicely decorated too. It had ridges around the side, beautifully piped script, and lemon drop candies all around the edge. While I was there, of course I had to have coffee and a snack. The coffee was so good and so fresh. I also got an Oreo in a blanket, which is basically an Oreo baked inside the best chocolate chip cookie recipe ever! It was like crack! I loved it so much that I got a few more for the road. The absolute best place for treats. My wife wanted cupcakes for her birthday and our normal spot had closed, so of course I turned to Yelp to hook me up with the next best thing. For my first review of 2020, I find it more than appropriate to bestow this honor to Bakeshop. I drove 30 minutes to check out this cool little shop based on the reviews and my desire to try something new besides Starbucks. What an excellent choice! When I arrived, I was greeted with one of the warmest store welcomes I've experienced in a long time. Two baristas were waiting at the register with smiles. I could tell this spot was probably very popular with locals, so I wasn't surprised to later see that they knew the names of some of the customers that came in during my visit. I was overwhelmed in a good way with all the choices they had. There were cookies, and macaroons, and cupcakes, and coffee I'd never heard of before. I had no idea what to choose, but both baristas were happy to help. They described the taste of some of the items and the coffee. I went with a strawberry shortcake cupcake, a fruity pebbles macaroon, a chocolate chip cookie, and a coffee that I believe was called taro, but I'm probably wrong about that. The cupcake and the macaroon were great and the presentation was perfect. If you look at the picture, it doesn't look that way because my camera is great. It looks that way because that's exactly what you get. Excellent quality for a good price. The coffee tasted like a different version of a vanilla latte, which worked for me. I enjoyed it. Side note: I didn't check the price on anything before ordering and was surprised that all four of my items came to around $12. Great experience. Great customer service. Lively atmosphere. This bakery has a lot of chutzpah. It not only tries to compete with numerous bakeries around the DC area (some of which are run by pastry chefs), but it also charges more than the chef owned ones. They had better be excellent because the other bakeries are. My wife and I bought 11 items to get a fair representation for comparison. We bought macarons, a coffee cake, cupcakes, cookies, a Nutella croissant and a macchiato.    The flavors of the macarons were cherry, taro and red velvet. The cherry macaron filling had no cherry flavor. It had the floral aroma of a cherry blossom and an herbal/flower flavor. It wasn't good. It had a taste that only a mother could love. The taro macaron filling had a starchy cream flavor that wasn't sweet. The cookie part had taro in it and it was sweet. This was a Jekyll and Hyde macaron. One part bad (filling) and one part good (cookie). The red velvet macaron filling had a sweet cream cheese flavor. The cookie had a sweet almond/cocoa flavor. This one was excellent. Kudos for the contruction of the macarons, they rival the best we've seen.    The coffee cake had a thick streusel topping. It was so thick and hard, cutting it with a fork was a little difficult. The taste of the cake and topping were very good. The topping needed to be thinner and softer.    We got a taro cupcake and a red velvet cupcake. The taro cupcake was moist and light. The cake was part vanilla and part taro. The icing was taro powder and cream cheese. The flavors combined very well. It was a satisfying dessert.  The red velvet cupcake tasted like what you would expect of red velvet. The cake was soft and moist. The icing was sweet cream cheese. It was good, but not particularly special for the price.    The cookies we got were brown butter chocolate chip, oatmeal blueberry and ginger snap. The brown butter chocolate chip cookie was excellent. The brown butter gave it a unique roasted flavor. It was moist and chewy in the center with a crispy buttery edge. The oatmeal blueberry cookie was good. The blueberry was the standout flavor. Other than that, the overall flavor wasn't worth buying again at their price. The ginger snap cookie was a giant soft version of a Stauffer's ginger snap. It had very good flavor, but it was a little too soft. It would bend downward when it was picked up. This one is for Legally Blonde movie fans. It's got, "bend and snap."    The Nutella croissant was good, The Nutella filling was excellent. The croissant was light and flaky, but it was lacking any buttery flavor. That was disappointing.    The macchiato was a double shot of expresso with milk foam on top. It was  served in an eight ounce cup which was barely half full. The expresso tasted strange in a bad way, like it was slightly rancid.    The service was friendly and helpful. The store was small so there was not a lot of room for display cases or customers. Every inch of space in the displays was used, so look carefully or you'll miss a pastry. Parking was limited and somewhat hard to find. This, along with their prices makes this bakery less attractive. If you pick carefully, you can get some excellent pastries. read more

I like the fact they stay open until 9 PM. So many bakeries close early on Sundays. All four of us went for the ice cream sandwich with chocolate chip cookies. I had this combo elsewhere, with cookies just out of the oven. That was far superior. But this made a wonderful treat since hot cookies were not an option. The deep freeze on this product made the cookies very firm. They may have benefitted from a room temperature thaw for a few minutes. But I didn't have the patience. The ice cream was rich and creamy. Really cute place! I got a skim milk London fog latte (aka earl grey latte with a dash of vanilla). It was excellent. I also got 3 macaroons. They were filled with buttercream in the middle which ... I'll be honest I did not like. Im not sure I like the heaviness of buttercream as a macaroon filling. Or maybe there was just a bit too much buttercream for my liking? I'm so sad to write this because I have had positive experiences here previously, but what happened at Bakeshop today was unacceptable. I stopped in to purchase my usual box of macarons, and decided to try a pumpkin cupcake as well. I headed straight home with my items. I made it home, fully prepared to experience cupcake greatness, when about two bites into the cupcake (which was delicious) I bit into a piece of hard plastic. Not okay! I'm assuming the plastic somehow fell into the frosting, since it wasn't melted into the "baked?" cupcake. I called and called to let them know about the incident. After no answer, I waited a few more minutes and finally spoke with a manager named Nathaniel regarding the incident. He apologized, but at this point, the damage is done. It was so good! I picked the funfetti cookie with birthday cake ice cream. It was so good. The cookies were soft, the ice cream was creamy, and they even had chunks of butter cream in the ice cream. If you're looking for a good cookie, a good ice cream, or both, I would suggest this place! They also have soft dog cookies for your best friend.
