Macron Heaven. I shouldn't have to write much more than that. If you are in the mood for any type of baked good, and you are in the area, do yourself a favor and check them out. There was at least ten different types of Macrons. That was my goodie of choice, as I ordered a mint chocolate chip macron and a pistachio macron. The cookie was just perfect, in look and feel. The taste was just amazing! The filling in both cookies was just delicious. The price for each cookie was $2.00. While I was in line I witnessed the care the staff takes to work with customers that are ordering a cake for a special occasion. One word: Dangerous. This place is absolutely filled with the most scrumptious sweets and treats a person can dream of. I was visiting Arlington from California and saw this place on the map and made a special trip to try out their cupcakes. Boy was I glad I did. Some of the best cupcakes I've ever had and cheap (believe it or not) compared to specialty cupcake shops in California. I'll be making a special trip if I'm ever back in the area. Best flavors? I'm a huge fan of the store and usually, I'm very pleased with the service and sweets. My dog is also a huge fan . Last night I went to the store and was disappointed with the service, the young guy wasn't very welcoming which is such a shame. I also purchased a box of macarons (my favorite) and today the cookies are stale. The young guy also didn't give me any receipt of purchase, since I paid with cash. I was looking forward to sharing the macarons with my friends today and had to throw away half of the box. Please, fresh products should always be a priority at the store!. read more

However, I don't just come here for the best cupcakes to bring to a party. Linda's Banana Pudding, Brookie, and Chipwich are sure wins. Staff is incredibly nice and it is a local favorite. Onto the next... I quickly did a Yelp search to find a notable bakery. BAM!!... 4.5 stars, lots of reviews ...BAKESHOP! Right when I called in, I was greeted by Justin. I told Justin I wanted to place a large order for a corporate party - 10 dozen cupcakes and 8 dozen cookies. Little did I know, this place has a plethora of cupcake flavors and cookie choices. I asked for his advice on which flavors to choose. This guy was on his A-game... He proposed that I stick to the classic flavors and throw in a few eccentric flavors (i.e. Salty Apricot). I followed his lead and got the perfect assortment of flavors. I had my order delivered into DC for a low, standard delivery rate of $15. The delivery was right on time, and the delivery man was kind enough to give me an update as he was in transit. Talk about excellent customer service. Each bag of treats were wrapped up as if it were ready to be displayed in a wedding. This place knew how to push my buttons. I could not be happier with my order and I highly recommend this place for corporate orders! This place adds a special, local touch to each and every treat. NONE of the cookies and cupcakes were off in taste/consistency. Each and every treat that came out of the package were prime and perfect. Perfect balance of sweetness and fluffiness. This place is located in Clarendon, VA area so parking is all street parkings and paid garage parkings. I would recommend to take metro here if you want to stay around and do restaurant hopping for the whole day. I know for sure they have enough coffee shops, restaurants and desserts places to keep you busy all day. This located 3 blocks away from clarendon blvd, so walking distance to the metro station. We came here on a Friday night and it crowded with people coming in to buy and go. The place is small but they have few tables for customers to sit and eat their desserts. That night, they had macaroons, many flavors of cookies and cupcakes, macaroon ice creams and cookie ice creams. We ordered cookies and macaroon ice creams. Those two were definitely on point and I would definitely recommend red velvet macaroon ice creams for anyone want to try this place. It was a special occasion for the man and I when we went into Bakeshop to pick up cupcakes. The parking situation is a little weird, the parking garages don't really have a ton of space in them and kinda hard to spot because they just look like loading docks. Anyways onto the bakery itself! Very large and clean space, decorated in polaroids and tons of hand drawn pictures from children. Very charming. Staff greeted us right away and left us to our own demise of staring at cupcakes and goodies until we we're ready to choose. We got a half dozen cupcakes and so far every single one we've tried are super moist! The red velvet with cream cheese frosting I liked. Frosting is not too sweet which is a plus for me. Cookies and cream cupcake... the frosting tastes like the filling of an oreo sandwich cookie. AMAZING. I also got the Viet iced coffee, and was genuinely impressed. I don't drink too much coffee anymore, but it was smooth, not too strong and not cloyingly sweet. They have a vast selection of cookies and macarons as well! I was tasked with finding cupcakes for my colleagues baby shower and quickly discovered how expensive getting 40 cupcakes delivered to an office is. I then found BakeshopDC with reasonably priced cupcakes and a $10 delivery charge. Not only was the man I dealt with at the bakery, Justin, super nice, but the cupcakes arrived on time and looked perfect. I picked the assorted variety which guarantees at least 3 flavors, but we ended up getting about 5. The office staff went crazy over them and I was bombarded with, "Dear lord where did you find these little bits of heaven." The pile of BakeshopDC business cards placed on the table were gone in a matter of seconds. The frosting was light and fluffy, the cupcakes were moist. It's a more delicate cookie, but worth handling for the combo. My sister - Browned butter chocolate chip: Looks like a boring chocolate chip cookie, tastes like the perfect chocolate chip cookie. Sounds like I'm talking in hyperbole, but I actually really believe this! - Brookie: Brownie in cookie form. VERY decadent if you're looking for your chocolate fix. - Gingersnap, snickerdoodle, salty oatmeal apricot: Aite, the first two just aren't my style in life, but if you like them in general, you'll like these. I never came around to the latter, but that's nbd bc I have 4 awesome cookies to choose from above! BONUS POINTS: The pumpkin chocolate bread is like WUT?? Place is small but cozy. I really like their music, it has funk and smooth jazz elements. They have one wall filled with polaroid pictures, and the other side of the wall contains a large map of the world, with some pictures tacked onto it (I'm assuming where people are coming from). They open at 9am, but when I arrived a little early (8:55), they had the door unlocked, and workers were ready! I ordered drip coffee and an apple cinnamon roll, and the food is delicious. I went for a slice of tres leches and it could more adequately be described as a vanilla cake. While the cake was delicious and airy it did not have the flavor or consistency of what I have learned to call tres leches. This is my absolute, 100% favorite place to get cupcakes in the greater DC area. You won't necessarily be able to figure out what you want to get ahead of time--they do not have the same selection of cupcakes and other treats every day. But I have YET to get something from the Bakeshop where I have said "I really regret getting that." I've been stopping in for cupcakes since the Bakeshop opened, and I really appreciate the dialog the baker has with the customers. I remember in the very beginning, he asked me my opinion on the cookies, and another time on his use of twitter (when he saw me tweeting in the store). I also remember him saying at one point "I think I'll start making pancakes..." and it was eventually on the menu. It is a very neighborhood-y, non corporate, non-pre packaged shop. The thing that drives me the craziest about Clarendon is that it seems like every shop is orchestrated to fit some sort of pre-determined niche. Bakeshop just is. And that's great. While Bakeshop is my favorite, I'm not a bakeshop groupie to the point where it is the only place I go to. However, I've hit the point that when I've gone to Crumbs, I feel incredibly disappointed in myself and in my cupcake. Red Velvet is pretty good, but I argue that Bakeshop has it beat in texture and frosting yumminess. I was skeptical of their vegan cupcakes, but was extremely impressed afterward. They were just as moist as the non-vegan cupcakes, and they didn't taste different/funny. At the end of a few nights, I've grabbed whatever random cupcake was left in their selection, and even though each time they would never have been my first choice from window-shopping, I was extremely pleased. The one star is for customer service. Didn't even get to try anything. My husband tried to buy a Valentine's Day cookie cake (4 days before Vday). There were flyers in the store advertising it. And a poster at checkout advertising it. The lady at the checkout just told him "no he couldn't order a cake" and didn't explain why. She made him feel really awkward about. He asked about the flyers and advertisements in the store. She replied "they shouldn't be there." Didn't even suggest something else he should buy. So the girlfriend used to swear by Georgetown cupcakes until she had the cupcakes from here. I bought her 1 of every flavor they had to make a dozen and brought it home for her. As soon as she saw the dozen her eyes lite up. She immediately opened both 6 packs and systematically took a bite out of every cupcake and ranking it. Her favorites out of that dozen were the Carrot Cake, Apple/Pumpkin one, and any ones with the strawberry frosting. She even mentioned how she HATES red velvet including the ones at Georgetown cupcakes but she actually liked the ones from Bakeshop. She said she has now converted from the Georgetown cupcakes cult to the Bakeshop cult. I decided to take her to the Bakeshop this weekend to introduce her to the man and the brains behind all of the cupcakes she loves so much. She proceeded to compliment him on his cupcakes and give him tips as well. We ended up buying getting another dozen making it 3 in a week. This time they had the dreamsicle which is to die for. It literally tasted like I was eating the ice cream version of it. Aside from their cupcakes their chocolate chip cookies are to die for. If you luck out and get it really early in the morning when they are fresh out of the oven they will melt in your hands and mouth. If you get it at night you can try and ask them to heat it up so it is close to the consistency that you would get early in the morning. The ones with chocolate cake were super dry and didn't taste very chocolatey. I also wasn't a fan of the frosting.. It was too buttery for my taste and I ended up just scraping all of it off. This man is the answer to far flung sisters across America! The product arrived in perfect condition, tasty beyond belief and was waiting for her. This last part is huge because through a series of mix ups, she didn't receive other gifts that day until this arrived. Her report indicates perfect cupcakes - better than many other DC bakeries, enormous macarones, little debbie-esq snack cakes and cookie wrapped Oreos (they sounded heavenly). LOVE Bakeshop. I was looking for a place to make a cake and favors for a bridal shower I was cohosting, and Bakeshop answered the mail perfectly. The almond layer cake was more delicious than I imagined - the cake was light and fluffy, and a slight almond crunch added a special texture. Both cake and icing were perfectly sweet and moist, and many of the women commented how amazing the cake was - a huge hit! I also ordered the Oreos in a blanket for favors (they came individually wrapped, which was amazing) and I added a monogrammed tag of the bride + groom initials. Everyone at Bakeshop was kind and very accommodating - they texted me the list of flavors so I could confer with the other shower host before making my final cake selection, and they let me into the shop before it opened so I could pick everything up on time. Having tried the layer cakes and the famous oreos, I highly recommend this place - and will definitely be back to try more of their treats after reading some of these other reviews! read more

I was visiting my family from NYC, and if you know me...frequenting bakeries in NYC is one of my favorite things to do. So coming to Bakeshop was a MUST DO! I met Justin several years ago when he was experimenting with making different cupcakes and before he made his debut on the Unique Sweets. Passionate is a word I would use to describe him. I'd have to say they are my second favorite cupcakery I've encountered in the area, but loved their ice cream cookie sandwich and banana pudding. The bakery is owned by this 30 something (slightly gorgeous) man, along with his mother (so adorbs), and a string of friendly staffers. The space is cute and bright and kid friendly. We visit this shop almost weekly and recommend it to everyone we know. Blink and you might just miss it! They have multiple types of baked goods, including a 'pillow'... just try it. The best thing about this shop is they don't rush you when ordering. This is super important because the longer they let me look the more I will buy. I love the area and found parking easy to obtain granted I went around 1:30pm on a weekday. Cute little shop, no frills but super friendly girl working there, super helpful and patient while I ponder what to get without getting it all. Okay the first two things I tried, I have never had before Macarons and Vietnamese Iced Coffee.. I am no expert but they were fantastic... I would drive the distance for a Vietnamese Iced Coffee alone. I had the macwich with mint chip ice cream... Yummmm.. I got three types of macarons.. coffee (mom loved it), mint (I loved it) and confetti (3 yr is saving that one. I am so wondering why I never tried those cute macarons before!
