Sherry is amazing! I was going to another salon and my hair was badly damaged after a balayage color gone terribly wrong. I went to see Sherry. She told me to come in to get it all fixed up on her day off! She reminded me constantly that she will fix it and make sure I was "beautiful" at the end of the appointment. Though, I had to chop a bunch of hair off from how badly damaged it was, I have never been happier with the color and the style she gave me. She is very sweet and only wants the best for her clients. I was struggling to find a new hairstylist after mone moved away to Arizona. I was terrified Nd extremely nervous to try someone new. I did tons of searching and settled on Balboa Salon. I fell into the hands of Sherry to made me feel SO COMFORTABLE and relaxed. She eased my fears and assured me that she would do everything she needed to, to make sure I loved my haircut. I love getting my hair cut and styled at Balboa Salon. The ladies here are very skilled and very sweet. Sherry cuts my long hair to perfection every time. She takes her time and is gentle and thorough. I just had my first cut and style in over a year due to the COVID-19 shutdown, and I felt very safe. The current rules (July 2021) are one person at a time by appointment only, mask required. The salon has been completely redecorated and is quite beautiful now as well as friendly. My hair is not difficult to cut. It is long, thick and straight. And when I need it cut, I need it shorter and a little thinner. That's it. Many salons have tried to cut off 3 inches of hair without screwing things up and failed. However, this salon did so and texturized (thank you - and to all you stylists out there who told me it would ruin my hair, suck it!) it to make it feel lighter. I got a good deal because tonight was their Grand Opening, but she did such a good job, I will be back. The vibe of the salon is fun and very comfortable and one of the ladies that works there gives Turkish coffee readings, which sounds weird for a salon but really is pretty fantastic. Efficient, friendly service. They didn't try to push products on me and above all did an awesome job on my hair. Probably the best haircut I've received in oh, about five years! Note: My GPS kept taking me around the block to the location - it's behind Bank of America on Balboa Ave. and near a martial arts place where students were outside practicing karate chopping each other. read more

Mojgan is my new secret weapon! The other day my mom had her hair done by Mojgan and it looked so good that I booked an appointment with her immediately. Granted, my hair's completely different from hers, but I wanted to see what Mojgan would do. Adding my photo as evidence here (pink lipstick, black hair). A picture's worth 1000 Yelps. I got color, a cut, and a blow-dry. Her blow-dry alone is a work of art, but the attention she paid to the process and the gentleness with which she does your hair puts you in a trance. It was a relaxing way to spend the afternoon and obviously I was excited since I wrote this pretty much immediately. Mahsvash did such an amazing job on my hair, she is a complete professional, I showed her a picture of what I wanted and she exceeded that expectation because she did my highlights with what would look great on me. This was my second time ever dying my hair, and only time I did highlights so coming from someone that never dies her hair, I felt so safe and so happy I wanted to cry. It came out gorgeous and the pictures don't even compliment what it looks like in person. After everything was done I felt like a new me, and I got the happiness I wanted in the end that I didn't think I would of got if I went somewhere else. My long hair got caught in a little handheld fan and turned into a very tightly wound up dread. After a few hours of not making any progress on untangling it myself I began calling around to salons to try to find help. I went down a lengthy list of salons and all were telling me that that wasn't a service they offered. I was getting to the point of thinking the only option would be to cut it (it was a large chunk down to the root on the very top of my head) but I finally called Balboa Salon and Sherry was available to look at it right away. When I got there she was so welcoming and reassuring and promised me that she would give it her best effort. After an hour of powering away at it she was able to get it completely out without having to cut any of it! She was so kind to put a deep condition treatment in that portion after the wear and tear it been through that day and barely charged me a thing. I am so grateful for Sherry's sweetness, dedication, and help! She truly saved my hair and I don't think I could have found anyone else with the amount of patience and generosity. The ladies that run this salon are so sweet and caring! The entire time in there I was fully planning on giving a glowing five star review. They care greatly about the health of your hair and the quality of the products used. However, I went in to get my roots re-dyed (I have dark brown hair naturally but am currently blonde) which I have done many times at multiple salons, all with no hitches. We went through a coloring process which was supposed to be healthier for my hair, as my ends are rather damaged, however it didn't make my roots light enough. Then, we put bleach on my roots. The lady who was attending to me kept talking to her partner in a language I didn't understand, and at first I didn't think anything of it. She washed out the bleach and started to style it. Then, out of the blue, she asked me if I take any medicine. "Oh, you mean for my hair?" No. She wanted to know if I took any medicine at all, which I do. She claimed that because their products are organic, it wasn't working on my hair as well as it usually does. When I finally saw myself in the mirror, my roots were blonde, yes, but noticeably darker and brassier than the rest of my hair. They didn't offer to attempt lightening it anymore, and they charged me full price. Looking at my hair now, there's a definite line between where I am platinum and where they attempted to do my roots. Perhaps this was a me specific case, and honestly I loved the ladies and the salon immensely, but the end result was just far from ideal. read more
