I was a member for 2 and a half years and had a good experience while I was actively using the club. Unfortunately, the way they handle cancellations completely overshadowed that. After moving out of the area, I canceled my membership four days after being billed in December. Despite not living nearby or being able to use the club, they required 60 days' notice and continued charging full dues for two additional months. No flexibility. No prorating. No understanding. When I spoke with Rachel King about it, she was dismissive and simply repeated the policy over and over instead of addressing the issue or showing any willingness to work with me. We met up with friends to hang out by the pool on July 3. The parking lot was mostly full when we arrived around 2:30 pm, but tbe pool was surprisingly chill. It's busier on a typical weekend day. As always, lots of kiddos and parents hanging out. Bar service was open and delivery service was pretty fast on this day. We found several open lounge chairs in the shade, which was a nice respite from the sun. The pool temperature is in tbe high 80s this time of year - very comfortable. We just joined and day 1, had an amazing experience with Lindsey (member services), Patrick (GM) and Kristen (restaurant.) Food was outstanding and client experience was phenomenal. The burgers were amazing. Every single individual we met on site were very transparent about the fees and answered all of our questions about joining clearly. The mid-century modern-esque clubhouse is pleasantly modern and inviting inside, the bar and dining room are definitely places I see ourselves enjoying. We found the golf instructors well priced (I signed up with Charlie,) with great instruction and packages. The pro shop also has great apparel for women! So after hearing everyONE talk there good and bad about the club house and the greens.. I'm 100% assuming you have to be a member to even step foot on the driving range. . And reading Donny's review/sales pitch I can imagine their sales pitch comes on pretty strong.he Expertly avoided answering the question. AND immediately went in to sales mode on his review Can non members buy range balls and hit a few? That's all I'm asking you .. Food and general cleanliness is horrific. Rats, roaches and mold infest the kitchen and I have first-hand experience of this. I would not allow anyone I cared about to eat food that was prepared in that place. read more

I am the Human Resources Manager at my company and in charge of event planning. Each year, planning the annual holiday party for the company can be extremely stressful. Luckily, I got in touch with the Director of Events at Balcones Country Club, Natalie Bratcher. Our event was executed flawlessly thanks to Natalie. We had a full-service dinner with appetizers, salad, entree and dessert. We also had a full-service bar. The theme of the party was Casino Night. I am only giving this place one star, because Yelp doesn't allow negative stars! I recommend avoiding this place unless you are into horrifically bad customer service. They currently have a sign hanging on their fence along 183 advertising golf lessons, so I called to sign up. An hour-and-half before the start time of my first lesson, I got a call saying that the golf-pro (Mike) needed to reschedule because he had errands to run (huh?). I expressed some concern over blowing-off a customer for errands and asked to speak with the pro's boss. I was told the boss would call me back. He had never called. Later in the day, I called back - as I had not heard from anyone and hoped to reschedule for later in the weekend. Unfortunatlely, I spoke with a terribly rude receptionist named Sue. Her attitude and behavior took the situation from bad to worse. She interrupted my constantly. Finally, she put me in on hold for the head golf-pro, JJ, who was coming in off the course and would have a few minutes to listen to "my little story." Yes, those were her exact words. It was no surprise when a few min later the phone rang to his voicemail. I left a message. A few hours later and still no returned calls, I tried the general manager. Of course that call has not been returned, either. The next morning I tried posting on their Facebook page for some help. Funny, it appears as though my post has been removed, with still no reply. So, I guess the moral of this story is only do business with Balconies Country Club if you have the time to adjust your schedule to the whims of the staff and want to endure bad service. Of course, they are a country club, so I perhaps they don't need to offer decent customer service. Ironically, they must need customers since they are advertising on the side of the road. Had my mother-in-laws 80th Birthday this Saturday the 26th, the facility was clean, Had Great atmosphere.The food served was excellent, the wait staff was very attentive and made sure every thing went smooth!! I've been a member of this club for many years. It's seen great times and some not-so-great but I've never experienced poor customer service. The staff has always been polite, professional, and often go above and beyond. Sue, Mike and JJ are included in this. Seems "Ms.P's" story is missing some facts and she's probably not representing the truth. Balcones is not the fanciest club in the area but it's a great club. You get what you pay for so some rough cart paths are to be expected. The facilities are not new but the staff, as well as the other members, make up for the constant need of repairs. There are always fun club events and membership is probably the most affordable of all clubs in Austin. Don't let the two poor reviews decide for you. Come to the club and see for yourself. We love new members! They keep our long standing club progressing to the next generation. read more

I've never played golf so my review is strictly based on the Balcones Club House. I ate dinner here last week for a function and was told the entrée for the evening was chicken. I asked the waitress if they could prepare a special vegetarian dinner just for me and I received the most amazing rice ever! It was a sweet & spicy rice pilaf with chunks of pineapple and peppers. I also got a variety of freshly prepared veggies that were grilled with a fantastic basil-like sauce. I was impressed and left very satisfied. The Club House is tricky to find though and isn't labeled very well from 183, plus it doesn't help that Google Maps has trouble finding it as well. read more

I absolutely enjoyed working with Natalie Bratcher for my wedding reception! She went over and beyond on helping with the planning and set up and made my life 110% less stressful, especially for planning an out of town wedding. Balcones offers many services; food, drinks, alcohol, linens, chair covers and sashes, and tables. So booking my reception here took killed so many birds with one stone. Her staff is so friendly and professional and all the guest had a blast! I will definitely go back if I have to plan another event. read more

We had a Baby Shower for my daughter here at Balcones Country Club and it was amazing. We did the decorations ourselves but Natalie and her staff handled the rest. Everyone attending expressed how wonderful everything was. Food was great and service was awesome. All I had to do as a first time Grandmother was to sit and enjoy myself. That is exactly what I did. I've been to Balcones Country Club before for a Celebration of Life Service and fell in love with the venue and the people serving. I contacted Natalie as soon as I knew I was in charge of the Baby Shower and she was and is one of the nicest people I have ever worked with. Even with the Covid mess that's going on, she explained how the serving would be and she and her staff fulfilled any request we had. Now I'm just waiting for the birth of my granddaughter and also wanting to book Balcones Country Club for her 1st Birthday! Thank you Natalie, you're a dream to work with. I hate to do this because I love golf but this golf course is in bad shape... I understand central and south Texas is in a severe but most golf courses have been able to maintain the fairways and greens. That is not the case here. There are some holes that do not have fairways at all. When I played there they were aerating the greens so they were beyond bumpy making it extremely difficult to make putts. I understand that's part of the game so I am not too upset about that. Another concern I have are the cart paths... Not only are they in awful shape but they are extremely difficult to navigate from one hole to the next. Most holes are easy to determine where the next hole is but some times you have to go in between houses which can be very hard if there aren't any signs telling you which direction to go in. The staff here was very friendly and it's also the only golf course I have every played on that serves jello shots. That was a plus! Play here at your own risk but I will more than likely avoid this place in the future. read more

Just joined this course after playing it and finding it entertaining and the members friendly. The fairways are narrow with large old trees sometimes placed in the middle of the fairways. The park-like front nine is fairly flat and easily walkable while the back nine is more challenging and more fun in a cart winding through the neighborhood. The greens and fairways are very good shape, although the greens are a little slow due to reseeding. Pace of play is very good but the cart path on the front nine is very rough. The back paths are much better. Be sure to order your lunch at 8 so you can pick it up at the turn in the clubhouse. read more

Okay, I admit it, I was put off by all the negative chatter from non-members, but when I went to see for myself I was impressed with the community of the club. After years of neglect Palmer Golf Management was brought in to rejuvenate the club and the results are showing. The club house may be dated, but the course is constantly improving and the members are younger and more vibrant than ever before. I'm guessing Balcones' clubs within the club are part of the reason (women's and men's associations, swimming camps and clubs, junior golf, senior golf, couples golf, tennis, etc.), but what I like best are the multitude of social events for members of all ages and interests. I agree, Balcones Country Club does not offer a Jack Nicklaus designed course with a multi-million dollar club house, but it also doesn't cost $30k plus in initiation fees and $800 plus in associated monthly dues. If you're looking for value and you believe the people make the place, then you need to check this club out. read more

The golf course was in bad shape last year during the drought, but that is expected as many courses in the area also were stressed. The club has since gone to a members only private club. Meaning, you get people that care about the future of the club and not one time visitors. They do have pretty elaborate events for the holidays that are very family friendly. Giving the place a 1-star rating because of one failed golf lesson is pretty pathetic. We are members there and it is true that it isnt the nicest club in Austin, but it is still a great place to go and the price is very affordable compared to similar clubs. It is clean, good service and staff, and with the rains, the course is looking and playing very nice. I visited yelp prior to joining and almost cant believe how bad the reviews are from some of the other yelpers who most likely arent members. They have one bad expierence either during the worst drought on record or simply because they couldnt re-schedule a golf lesson, and give it one star. That has nothing to do with the overall club. If you are interested in joining, simply go to the front desk and take a tour of the place. Then make your decision... read more
