The fresh boars head turkey sliced in front of me along with the cheese and the fresh huge dill pickle! I'm not kidding.... We lived in Jersey and this tasted better than jerseys! Baldino's is a regional chain located around the Savannah, Georgia area that bills their food as "Giant Jersey Subs." I discovered this place about ten years ago and when I am in the area, I often find myself heading here for a meal. Be warned prior, most are attached to gas stations. But don't let that stop you from trying their food. This is far beyond gas station food. Their subs are great, especially when factoring in the price. A half sub (and they are huge, so this should be more than enough for a meal), is anywhere from $3.99 up to $6.39, with most firmly in the middle of five and change. I opted for the #7, the Baldino's Special, and lucked out when it was on special on this day. Normally, $5.29 (still a great price), it was on special for $3.99. And look at the pic, look at all you get for under five bucks. I strongly recommend this place. Good food for a great price. How can you go wrong with a combination like that? read more

I really was hoping this would be my new favorite place! On 6/24/24, I was on my way back to SC. Was in the mood for an extra special sub. Did some research during my flight and found this place. It looked absolutely charming, and I loved the back story! Menu looked great! On the day in question, it had advertised closing time of 9pm. I called at 8:14pm. This is how it went, a voice on the phone answers "Hello?," as if I just wakened them. I pause for a couple seconds, confused. I said, "Oh, is this...." Interrupted by "Hello Baldinos" Oh, Hi I was wanting to order a sub for pick up. "What's the name?" Roy, sorry, I'm just leaving the Savannah airport, I would like to order a #24......(Interrupted) "We are closing soon, if you can't be here in 20 minutes..." So, it's still 8:14pm, they should know the airport is only 10 minutes away, they close at 9pm. I said, Never mind, I'll just go somewhere else. They said "Okay.", A very rude phone exchange. Stopped here for lunch on a trip to SC. This place is located in a Shell gas station off the Interstate 95 exit for Pooler, GA. Based on the exterior appearance, you will be troubled and may not want to go in but go on in, the restaurant is straight out of the 70's (think red plastic booths and wooden table tops with the old school signage from days gone by). Most of the staff were extremely patient and kind. This was evidenced by the fact that they took their time to explain the menu to two parents with three kids who had been in the car for a while. They also changed the channel because the show on the TV was not kid appropriate. It is also apparent from the number of regulars that showed up while we were there (the cook knew their order by their face/appearance - kinda impressive) that they consistently put together a nice product. The food was really good, we got ham and cheese, turkey and cheese and a streak sandwich. All sandwiches were well prepared with generous sizing. A 6 inch was too big for my kids to eat by themselves. The steak was a great sandwich. Would have given them five stars except for the exterior/ interior and they are attached to a gas station that has gambling machines that are legal in GA and explaining to my kids why grown adults were pumping money into a glorified slot machine was not fun. Also, one of the staff members kept using the F-bomb again not fun with kids. Would go back without the kids. read more

I ran into this on my trip to Savannah area. What a great service. I recommend this place. Here is what happened...I ordered a chicken sandwich. The guy made it and called my order. When I picked it up the flimsy disposable plate broke and I dropped the whole sub on the floor. The guy told me not to worry and made another sub and replaced it with no extra charge. Stopped here on a road trip and was very happy. Everything was nice and fresh, they make their own bread (a light almost Cuban style bread) and the meat was sliced really thin. I absolutely love subs from Baldinos. Their subs blow the chain store sandwiches out of the water. The bread is fresh and never hard. The meat is always tasty and you can get as much or as little salad on your sub as you want. That being said the Baldinos on Hwy 80 is my absolute favorite. It's still American owned and the service is top notch. They open at 6:30 and the woman who is there early in the morning will definitely brighten your day. I have been eating at this Baldinos for years, but was very disappointed today. They must have changed to a cheaper meat, was below the level I have come to love. The lettuce tasted strange and they put very little on the sandwich (thankfully). The sandwich was very dry until I got to the last few bites, I found all the mayo.... will be driving a little further to try a different Baldinos. read more
