Worst experience of my life. Typical used car sales men. They are nice and easy to work with , but they don't stand behind their vehicles. I bought a vehicle from them a few months ago. They said it had a full inspection and that everything was good to go. So i brought it home and a few days later brought it to a Ford dealer to get a full check up. They called me back saying that there were multiple issues and that my warranty wouldn't cover any of them. The truck needed thousands of dollars worth of repairs. So i spent $700 to fix a few things right off the bat. I was so mad that i finally called Baldwin because they told me to call them with any issues and that they would get it fixed at cost through there mechanics. They gave me the runaround BS but finally said to bring it down to them. When i gat there they plugged in there diagnostics as if they were mechanics and told me that nothing was wrong. Then they said to go to their mechanics in La Mesa were they would check it out and fix it. I got there and the mechanic looked at my truck and said, "It's a diesel? I don't do diesels, gasoline engines are hard enough." So with that said, i gat back into my truck and left furious. I could not deal with this any more, so i sold my truck for a $5,000 loss. I lost all faith in the truck and in Baldwin Auto Sales. They would not do the right thing and help out a customer that just purchased a truck from them. I only put 500 miles on that truck. These guys were worthless and manipulative. Don't buy anything from them. read more

I went to test drive a used Jeep Grand Cherokee that they had advertise on their website. I met with Don Baldwin who is a family member of the owner. The test driving began and right away I started to notice problems with the car, the driver's seat was lose and I was afraid that the seat was just going to pop out of place! there were also lots of noises coming from the engine, of course Don had an answer for every problem that was addressed by me and my husband, so we continued to drive and then I started to smell something like smoke, really bad smoke and I mentioned it and again Don had a perfect explanation as to why it smelled that way (ie: car has not been driven in a while, etc) Anyways we pull into their car lot and there was a lot of smoke coming out of the engine! I said to Don, wow.. see I told you something is burning, he didn't even acknowledge my concerns but got the car into a closed garage area where he said he needed to take a closer look at the car! I couldn't stop laughing after we left because it was obvious that he was totally embarrass by this, I mean, you are telling me how "wonderful and reliable" this car is going to be for my daughter yet it nearly blows up in flames while we are test driving! People my advise is.. do your homework with this dealership! I find them to be a bit shady! read more

We bought a expedition from here, and they offered me to test drive it and have it inspected, however as a trained mechanic, i drove it home! it looks great, drives great. I even got a text a couple days later form the owner asking if everything was okay with it! I am going to buy from here again! they even showed me what they paid for it. read more

Trust the bad reviews for this place! Lol Its almost comical what a douche this guy is. I drove a 100 miles to buy a car from him and the pictures were so deceiving. There were parts missing from the inside of the car. The center console top was missing, backseat storage pocket and lettering on the actual vehicle. I was irritated mainly with myself for not listening to the bad reviews. But at the end of the day I ended up finding a better car with less miles and looked gorgeous. So thanks Mr douche bag for this comical experience and for reminding me to go with my gut instincts. What a great dealer! Worked with Jeff and met the owner nice honest people! I called them when I got there they had the car I wanted ready to test drive and the car fax in hand when I arrived. I have went to many dealers and that never happened. They were friendly and not pushy at all! I went there today to buy a Lincoln LS for 6500.. First problem.. The website says 6500, the sign in the car was about 7200. We went to drive it and the engine was shaking like a leaf. He said it was the people who clean the engine prob. He would check. I was giving 3000 down. I also looked at a 8000 dollar car as a possible second choice. I made it clear I wanted the Lincoln though. I had to call back twice. I am financed for the car I did not want so I told him no I came for the Lincoln as I don't want to spend that much. He said it would cost me am extra 700 to finance the Lincoln. Was just terrible customer service, acted as though I was a bother to him. He is the owners son who took over. Also never updated me with the engine problem, and refused me to bring it to my mechanic for inspection. Red flag! This was a waste of a day! Please Don't buy a car from here!!! You are at your own risk. I picked up a car looked good on the outside and interior... It was a total mechanical nightmare! The transmission failed after 2 weeks $4,500 fix, break booster failing $1,000, suspension problems $600+ and key re-program $300, 2mm on the breaks pads, i was told 50%, and pulling to the right -was told "road crown". That was with a little over 100k. All things difficult to pick up after short test drive. He has the cars "inspected" by some crooked mechanics who check off anything on the 40-point inspection. I was told it was perfect mechanical condition. All those cars are there for a reason: sad stories. He is nice and will tell you about his sons olympic stuff, but wont have time for you after the sale. Just avoid this trap...Really, I wish I did. read more

Worst decision I have made. Sucker Punch!! Was roped into buying a 2005 Volvo s40. 86,000 miles. For one when I went to pick up and it was completely dirty inside and out. ...said they couldn't clean because of a slight drizzle. 25 point inspection??? ah, I really don't think so. I have had less than a year and oil pan cracked = $500, 3 months later rear breaks shot = $973, 1 month later, alternator and positive cable goes out= $1,600. 1 month later transmission goes out. I bough the $1,500 extended warranty for the tranny but somehow page 4 was not put in the contract (I had 1,2,3 and 5) Page 4 listed how much warranty company would cover which is a max of $2,500. There is no way I would have purchased the warranty. On top of that all, my car will have been in the shop 4 weeks tomorrow and still no fix. Swindlers, Rip off!! I went with my family to look at a car recently and was very displeased by the service I received. When we went into the building, we were not welcomed until I waved at a worker. He then proceeded to sit and yell from his office what we needed help with. After conversing with him, he gave us inadequate directions to the other lot. We had to call back to receive additional directions. Once We found the lot, we became aware that the car was locked and that no employees were at the site to help us. I am very dissatisfied with the service and while we liked the looks of the car, since we could not actually test it, will be taking our business somewhere else. I called on a ad from Craigslist 99 Camry - salesperson Jeff was nice, accomadating let me see the car on a Sunday at his home - negotiated a price - came prepared the next day Monday to the dealership to purchase - mentioned to him about some squeaking noise in the back - we agreed to meet at my mechanics in the AM the next day for reassuarance all was ok- OH...now later that night he calls me to say he has an emergency he cant meet me with the car as agreed had to go out of town - but meanwhile the car can be sold to someone else....not to me though cause he has to be the one to write up the contract and since he is out of town - oh well - WHAT A BUNCH OF BULL! Obviously something was wrong with the car - he didnt want me to have my mechanic look at it! He promised to call me back when he got back in town - IM STILL WAITING FOR THE CALL!! No worries - he just did me a favor!! Oh by the way - did I mention I had the CASH ON ME READY TO PURCHASE! After agreeing to price on vehicle, John would not allow me to take vehicle to my own mechanic, at my own expense, for a pre-purchase inspection but instead offered to take vehicle himself. John also would not allow mechanic to drop pan on transmission for detailed inspection. (high mileage truck). I respect the guy's right to run his business the way he sees fit but what I don't respect or appreciate is the rude, arrogant attitude he displayed to someone preparing to spend $20K on a vehicle. So mad that My husband and myself are reviewing this. If there was a no star option, I would still pick 1 because of my 1st interaction with one of the owners, which was incredibly pleasant and he bent over backwards to try and help us out. Unfortunately I was unable to purchase that specific vehicle, but came back to purchase a 1998 Buick Century, which has turned out to be the worst car purchase experience of my life. During the whole sales pitch I was told how the car was in tip top shape, repeatedly told how I would be pushing 30 Mpg, how great the car was running, all lies. The car ran good enough for the 5 min test drive, mostly on curved streets, which is probably why I didn't notice the alignment being slightly off and the steering wheel cocked to the left when driving straight. By the time I was done, the blinker light had crapped out, which was replaced there before I left. Didn't even make it home before it crapped out and I had to bring it back to the dealership when they finally returned my call to get it replaced again, and it died again, then I was finally sent to their mechanic, who told me he replaced said bulb before and warned the owner that if it occurred again, the harness was probably bad. So having known this, the owner let me drive off the lot knowing there was an issue and had me waste my time with driving back and forth from the dealership instead of sending me to the mechanic in the 1st place. Was told the mechanic would take care of the problem and when I went to pick up the part, which I had to call and inquire about since I never received a call that It had arrived, I was told that I had to pay full price for it since the owner said he could get it cheaper, so I had to wait another week and a half before picking it up, which I had to call about again since again no call informing of the parts arrival. As far as the car being in tip top shape and 30 Mpg, I am was getting 17 Mpg street/freeway mixed and the car sometimes didn't start. After being told how good the car ran and that a ton of work was done to it, I requested the maintenance records and discovered it hadn't even received the 100k maintenance, but the car runs great, wink wink. Having come out of pocket since to get that maintenance, the car runs great, no problems starting and I'm getting 20+ Mpg. The dealership apparently couldn't afford the $250 it cost to make the car run as well as they said it would. I had family members and friends looking at their website, as several were looking to buy, after my initial interaction, but after this nonsense, they have all decided to look elsewhere, which is what I recommend to all. Also, I have some experience working on cars and knew what signs of past problems to watch for. Don't expect to be coddled or catered to. I'll make this short and brief.. Chose this lot to buy my first car...I live over an hour away and spoke with Larry on the phone for over a week several times faxing him all documents and getting things in order so that I would not waste my time going in, well Larry told me to come in and pick out a car, great I make the drive in and he tells me he is busy and to come back in a couple of days I was VERY put off by this so I had started looking else where.. I get a call from Larry and another sale person saying take a look at this specific car if your interested in it, it's yours...I loved the car came back again for the SECOND time in one week, get there waited over an hour for Larry to help me...he calls me into his office tells me I need double the money down and my payments would be over 5 hundred a month because he had to add an extra 2 thousand on top of the car price for a "dealer fee". VERY SUSPICIOUS. Now the only reason I went back is because they called me and told me it was a done deal. I feel very taken advantage of and these guys are the prime example of sleeze bag salesmen, and a SHADY dealership. Now, after giving him a piece of my mind and storming out I feel it was a blessing in disguise that it did not work out...All their vehicle's have EXTREMELY high mileage and after reading reviews of their customer care and seeing how they operate first hand I am very relieved I did not finance through them, and for a first time car buyer this experience has taught me a valuable lesson, I'll do my research next time. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THESE SCUMBAGS!!! He was able to get us financed when our bank unbelievably wouldn't on such a low mileage car with the amount we were putting down. TERRIBLE CARS. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE...NOT BBB accredited..Don't buy...sold me a terrible car. Prices are not good.... and reviews show many buyers need to put in $1,000s to get the car to work safely within one or two months after purchase. In one month drove it less than 100 miles, and 5 days out of warranty, needed new transmission, had parasitic battery, need new electric computer module, new battery, new ignition key,. Called DON BALDWIN... he said Baldwin would not partially pay ( or even cared??) Baldwin has no "good will" to build customer base and does not care about repeat customers or referrals. I decided to go to Baldwin Auto Sales as I had a good experience with them a couple of years ago (did not purchase, however) and needed to buy a used truck for my son. They have a big inventory and the salesman (Don) was pleasant enough. However, within hours of paying $10,000 for a truck and driving it away, we began to have mechanical problems. Yes, we test drove the truck twice before buying, but the problems seemed to occur after more than 10 minutes of driving. When we returned the truck to Baldwin they took 24 hours to basically do nothing about the problem and said the mechanic they use could not find anything wrong. Big surprise. I took the truck to another mechanic who found there was clearly a cylinder misfire and it was even indicated by a code in the check engine system. By the time I get the truck out of the shop today, it will be $800 due to the other issues which need to be addressed (tune-up, replace spark plugs, fluids, etc.....). I get it, its a used vehicle, so will not be perfect. But its a shame that this used auto place is no better than any other when it comes to integrity. Too bad. read more

We have purchased two vehicles from Baldwin Motors. we purchased a Tahoe a couple years ago, and it was a very good vehicle. The second purchase was just a few days ago and so far (except for a couple minor issues) seems to be ok. We live in Texas. We leave the car in San Diego to have transportation when we come to stay. The salesman gave us some information on a couple vehicles we were interested in. He even suggested the less expensive of the two as being more favorable. Non-pressure. They stick to their price. We found the online prices are less so make sure you bring in a copy of internet price or mention you saw it online. They do say that they have a pre-inspection on the vehicles, but ours had a rear brake light issue and a light in the dash (sensor) issue. Those were definitely overlooked in the inspection. Hopefully, the sales staff was not aware of it as they would know it would show up during a test drive. Like we said, they are addressing those issues today and hopefully our car will be back in our driveway very soon. For a used car lot ( not a dealership) they give decent customer service. The vehicle could have been detailed better, but they may not have the staff for that. They do offer a 30 day/1000 mile warranty. If any issues I would think they would show up in that time frame. So far two thumbs for Baldwin. Would have given 5 stars if not for the inspection issues. read more

If you are reading this to decide whether to purchase a car from these guys, please don't buy from them! I purchased a car from them less than 6 months ago. The car has been the biggest headache in my life! The warranty they offer is a joke. Currently the car I purchased from them is in the shop costing me $1600 to get it out. I was without the car for almost a month because the warranty would not pay for the repairs. The dealership referred me to a mechanic that would do the work for the amount the warranty would pay. Needless to say the mechanic was an hour away from my house. So the mechanic sent for a tow truck to pick up car and work on it. I was glad that it was no cost to me bc of the warranty but I was unsure of the mechanics work. It was not in a very professional setting. Let's just say it was located in the not so nice area of el cajon. As I drove off, I was glad to finally get my car, but noticed a sound that wasn't there before. When I got home I noticed my spare tire's cover was missing, these sell for $100. I called the mechanic and asked them about these things. He said he hadn't noticed sound and didn't remember the tire cover. Also that I was welcomed to bring car back to be looked at over the weekend. That was nice of him but I wasn't making that drive to the ghetto again. The car didn't last running too long, maybe 3weeks. I took it to a local shop, they diagnosed it quickly. Unfortunately I don't have $1600 to fork over. Silly me to think when I purchase a car from Baldwin Autosales that it would last more than 6 months. I would have been better going somewhere else. read more
