Hour and a half driving to the dealership buy the car they said they sold it a few minutes before. "Sorry for any inconvenience"

Unprofessional sales team, don't care about your personal time especially three hours on your Sunday. Working with salesman Jonathan, he knew we were driving an hour and a half to go by this Jeep and talk to him 20 minutes before arriving to let them know we're right around the corner and to have it ready and he said it was. We walked into the dealership and they said they just sold it. Sales manager did not even want us in the store, no explanation given, no compensation for mostly our time or the fuel to get to the dealership to make a purchase. Serious buyer negotiated rate filled out the application and drove an hour and a half one way, which is three hours on a Sunday, time away from the family for nothing. Please have Jasen or Jasmine Powell call me.

    The truck the had advertised.

Got classically bait and switched. Verified with multiple people from from Jack Powell Chrysler Jeep in Escondido a new 2025 Jeep Gladiator was $34,999 and when I got there they switched me to a Jeep that was $43,000. I even got a text with the Jeep I was interested in, saying, "is this the one?" Took a half day off of work and drove there from Carlsbad only to find out they didn't have that Jeep they had advertised. The sales person (who I won't name) told me that it was auto traders fault and they auto populated this ad by mistake. I verified with multiple people this Jeep was on their lot. Nice try. Buyer beware. They still have it advertised at this very moment so they know why they're doing. I'm pretty sure this isn't legal. I'm reporting them to the states attorney general federal trade commission and to the local DMV and the department of consumer affairs. I've included a picture of the ad that is still up at this moment several hours after I left the dealership. I know they were lying about having that truck on the lot because I offered to buy it online to secure the deal (which I've done in the past) the sales manager told me they couldn't do that with that particular vehicle and that they needed " wet ink". They knew all along. They didn't have that vehicle on the lot. This was an intentional bait and switch. They knew what they were doing. It's still listed on auto trader the next day too. You would think they would pull it immediately after telling me it was "auto generated by auto trader". Another lie. UPDATE!!! READ BELOW!! It's been over two days and this bait Jeep is still on Auto Trader listed for sale almost three days later!! They are blatantly using this falsely advertised Jeep to deceive people by baiting and switching them so they can get them in to the dealership! I'm buying a different brand truck. I would mention that brand but I don't think it's allowed by Yelps terms and conditions to mention another brand or business. I would've just bought that $43,000 Jeep had they of just been honest with me. This is Principle. Here's a link to the Jeep they don't have that they bait and switch you with. I thought you would like this New 2025 Jeep Gladiator Sport S for $34900 on Autotrader http://atcm.co/S2PVDP/2D286CD4.

I am told I have a hard head. Going back to Jack Powell is an example. Multiple problems in service too many actually. At Jack Powell yesterday I was lied too. I have it in evidence with my review on Yelp in 2023. In for warranty issues and a seat part for my jeep. I didn't hear back on the seat part ordered. In 2023 I took my jeep out of there because Mat is so poor at the truth and customer service. Maybe add training. My expectations were get the part in my seat then and under warranty fix auto stop feature. Check transmission. In 2023, new battery. I took my car out of Powell in 2023. Removed it from the service bay. Matt had no idea when they would get a battery. Really? Nobody was in service bays. No workers at all. I expected as told at least the seat part was ordered. I have been back in-forth in the bay area. No call to come in for seat part. Yesterday, I needed help. I was 50 miles from end of my warranty. So Powell said today. The woman service tech. Appeared asleep. Treated me terribly! I had her listen to what I needed. She read the service record. Said bka bla. Nothing about the part ordered. Of course, the service record had no details about the visit. No surprise. She would not even walk outside the door to see what I needed. They hate customers. She said I don't need to look at your car. I said Jeep! I wasn't permitted to park in the service line for service department. I was told to park in sales area. Competence lacking. Who hired them? Fired! Everybody has cars for sale! Customer service is why you return. Yesterday from the sales parking lot. I called on SD Jeep. Go to Mossy! I called Mossy. I was listened to and treated like I mattered. They listened to my "emergency" problem. Get the end of my story on this news. I left my Jeep there this morning. From Chula Vista they paid my ride home to Escondido!!! That's customer competence! I will take my car to Chula Vista and bypass Powell. My Jeep is incredible. Service at Jack continues to be badly run!! Too many standing around! Rude. Hate their job! Hate people. Hate Jeeps. Zombies! UNTRAINED. I had a Miata for awhile when I went to Escondido Mazda. It was a pleasure. The female service tech was awesome. In 2023, I hoped this Powell dealership would get bought by people like my cousins dealership. Fired if customer service is not outstretched to serve. I want to buy a truck soon. I wonder where I'll buy? At Mossy I found out my warranty is 91,000, not to 60,000! Before all this I couldn't get a call back from her a month ago about service. She was my service tech." Yeah. No body runs service. Sales snd parts seem to be service operational.

    INITIAL REPAIR COST
    J W.

YOU MUST READ THIS WARNING. I've never left a review on Yelp before, and I've been a member since 2017. DON'T EVER PURCHASE A VEHICLE FROM JACK POWELL ESCONDIDO, OR ANY JACK POWELL!!!! PLEASE READ THIS REVIEW IF YOU'RE RESEARCHING JACK POWELL ESCONDIDO. 2 years ago to this month, I purchased a Mercedes from Jack Powell. Soon to find out that the vehicle was sold to me with broken motor mount brackets, warped front rotors, a broken air intake (there was a literal hole in it), and I was also forced into buying unnecessary add-ons to the vehicle. I have photos of the actual cost of repairs. For the motor mount brackets came to $2458.90. The warped front rotor repair/replacement came to somewhere around $600-$800 (I don't know where the paperwork is for this repair. Then the air intake I replaced myself and that was around $120 for the part. I tried contacting jack Powell for months, and I still have the emails to prove this. I tried emailing Michael Lopez MANY times and he blew it off constantly. I was told to get it diagnosed by a shop and provide them a receipt. It took me a month and a half before I could get a rental from Mercedes, which I needed due to my line of work. At that point, they began trying to shame me for not bringing it to their attention sooner. They had completely forgotten about me coming to them right away with the broken ait intake manifold. All in all, this costed me over an additional $3500 to repair these issues. It was so wild too, one time I finally got to speak with Michael over the phone. He said, "provide me the cost of repairs tomorrow", which I did. Over the phone I asked, "after we hang up here, am I even going to hear from you again?" He said, "of course, just provide me the cost of repairs and we'll see what we can work out. He even said "maybe we can cover cost of parts or labor", which would have saved me almost a grand. I would've been greatly appreciative of that. So, of course I coudn't get ahold of him again. Each time I called his extension, right to voicemail, each time I emailed, never got a response to this day. NEVER by a car from them. Oh, and if you do, make sure and have them remove the SWAT protection if your call already comes with a sort of tracking device protection, incase in gets stolen. Mine came with the Mercedes Benz system already, ALL OF THEM DO, but they told me I'd have to pay like $500 if I wanted the SWAT REMOVED. Can you believe that? So, they ALSO charged $2000 for the SWAT protection. That went onto my monthly payment plan. They charge you a few hundred for their FINISHING TOUCH GUARANTEE, which I wanted to not have included, and they said there's no way around it. The best part of all this, my bronze service protection, which was an extra several thousand dollars, DIDN'T COVER A SINGLE THING. I threatened to sue this company, and they didn't respond. I then looked further into it and would've had to pay several thousand for the lawyer fees. So, $3500 to repair, or $4000 to get noticed by Jack Powell? Guess I had to fork over the money. Do NOT EVER PURCHASED A VEHICLE FROM JACK POWELL ESCONDIDO, OR ANY JACK POWELL IF THIS IS HOW THEY WORK.

Clearly someone needs to be in charge of greeting customers as they pull into the drive and wait to be assisted. Unfortunately, not one person made eye contact or even acknowledged that I was there. It's awkward just standing there feeling ignored while waiting for help. The valet guys were mostly standing around looking at their phones. A simple "Hello, someone will be right with you" would have gone a long way. Once I was finally assisted, the staff was great and very professional, so this really comes down to first impressions. Customer service starts the moment a customer arrives. Hiring a greeter -- or simply encouraging staff to acknowledge customers and SMILE -- would make a huge difference.

On my last scheduled service, I told the technician that the front windows have screeched ever since I bought the vehicle. He looked at it during the service, said he knew what the problem most likely was and furthermore, that's it's a commonly known defect with Toyotas windows. Despite all of this, I would have to make a separate appointment to have them officially looked at. I went in today for my appointment and was immidiately told I had to pay a $200 inspection fee. When I objected, they said it's technically only signing for liability, and if they determine the issue was due to "external forces" then I'd have to pay the fee. So essentially they can determine anything at all is wrong with the vehicle outside of Toyotas control and I'd have to pay. So despite the issue being present since purchase, me having documented conversations with a technician who knows the problem, and the fact that you can literally hear the window screech up and down as I talk to the employees, they want me liable for $200. What's the point of 2 years of Toyota Care and a warranty if you have to pay to use it?

They had priced it fairly according to Kelley Blue Book. We had test drove a similar van at another dealership that was actually more expensive and not in nearly as nice shape as the one we bought from Baldwin. They allowed me to have my mechanic come out and do a pre-purchase inspection. The only flaws he found fall under basic maintenance and normal wear and tear on a used vehicle. As the van was already priced under valuation I made them a fair offer on it and they accepted. It was about as clean and easy of a purchase as I could ever expect. By the way, the negative reviews on here made me hesitant to check out the van at all. But when I read the negative reviews on here, they are from folks who either couldn't qualify for financing or bought a vehicle that was really old with high mileage. So complete your due diligence on a vehicle, find out if you can qualify for financing, and have a mechanic check it out before you buy. I did all those and got a great deal.

The automotive market has changed drastically--sub-$10,000 used to buy a solid, reliable car, but…read morethose days are gone. Today's used car buying experience often boils down to three things: Conviction, Conjecture, and Concealment. My experience buying a CBUA inline-5 from Baldwin Auto showcased all three. Concealment: Despite paying above-market price for a vehicle with over two dozen exterior body defects and six damaged interior items, I was willing to accept the cosmetic flaws if the mechanics were sound. Unfortunately, critical issues were hidden: The Battery: Every time we visited the lot, the battery was actively being charged. Right after purchase, it completely collapsed to 4 volts. Fuel Tank Sender: On longer drives, the sender sticks, causing the fuel gauge to drop straight to zero. Our PPI missed it, but an extended test drive would have caught it. Missing Accessories: The spare tire, tire kit, and floor mats were all removed prior to sale. Contract Loophole: Instead of standard disclosure, the 3-day California Contract Cancellation Option (cool-off period) was framed as something sold to us, modified to 5 days for an additional fee. Conjecture: Noticing evidence of a past oil leak, the salesman (Don) claimed, "All engines consume oil," citing broad manufacturer disclaimers as an absolute fact. While some engines do, not all do--presenting misinformed opinions with authority is misleading. Conviction: After sitting on the lot for over two months, the car suddenly had two "other interested buyers" the moment we were making a decision. An incredible coincidence designed to force a quick sale. Takeaway for future buyers: If you are set on buying a specific vehicle from Baldwin Auto, assume there are hidden issues and make it your job to find them. Take a much longer test drive, insist on the standard California cancellation option without inflated fee structures, and be prepared to pay a restocking fee if necessary rather than getting stuck with costly, concealed repairs

I now began my journey for another, better, vehicle. Every dealer from South Bay to Carlsbad said no. Went on Craigslist again and ran into the same dealership. Messaged them at 8pm and they replied within minutes. Next day, they had me approved! Not only for the vehicle I wanted, but with a decent monthly payment. Because of my work schedule, I was not able to get to the dealer until the next day (Friday). That evening, I was driving home in MY new (used) vehicle. The sales process was incredibly smooth--no pressure, the paperwork was efficient, and the staff at the Dan Way location were professional and welcoming. However, the "after-care" has been a different story. Shortly after the purchase, a mechanical issue arose that was clearly covered under the 30-day limited warranty. While I expected a quick fix, the service department has made it incredibly difficult to actually get the car in. When there the team could not diagnose the issue and asked to have me return if the issue persists. However; The Challenges: * Scheduling: Trying to get an appointment was a headache. I was told they were "extremely busy" and couldn't see the car for over a week, despite it being a warranty issue on a car they just sold me. * Resolution: While the issue is technically "covered," the hurdle of getting it diagnosed and repaired has turned an "easy" buying experience into a stressful ownership experience. I love the Lexus, but the service side of this CarMax needs a major overhaul in terms of accessibility and customer support. If you buy here, just be prepared for a potential fight if anything goes wrong during your warranty period
