I brought it to Chrysler since the van came with a 1000 mi. 30 day warranty. What a joke that company is. That's a whole other story. They also said it needed a new engine. After going back and forth for a month they wanted me to pay for the tear down $1200 and they would tell me after if they covered it or not. The van had been in an out of the shop until Aug 15th when we just broke it down and paid for a new engine. So 3 1/2 months just to end up putting a new engine and water pump in a car I just bought. Save yourself the time and money: do not buy from this place. Within a week of owning the car, the head gasket had to be replaced. The place seems legit as they provided a detailed maintenance history report on the car we bought, but there were clearly several things wrong with the vehicle that was revealed soon after purchasing. After the head gasket was replaced the front fender liner of the car flew off while driving due to poor mechanic work. Then a day after that I got a flat tire (the tires were extremely worn) and had to replace all four because of their poor preexisting condition. For the price I paid for this lexus CT it should've been in much better condition than it was. If you are not super knowledgeable about cars don't buy from here. The vehicle appeared to be in good condition on the lot, and even during the test drive, there were no problems. If you add the detailed maintenance report stating that the car had regular maintenance throughout the years you can probably understand why I was deceived. My experience with the brothers was good, but the car was just not in good condition and several repairs had to be performed soon after purchasing. We asked to see it, he came out i asked him so you're asking 25 for it and immediately said it's not 25k anymore now it's 27k. I said okay can we go on a test drive? So I am on the fence about giving 4 stars vs 5 but I will give a 5 because of the responsive staff. I purchased a vehicle years ago at their old location during a financial crisis and they helped me through it. The car itself ended up being a giant money pit but that isn't their fault. Who buys a high mileage 5 series BMW from a non BMW dealer? Me. That was my bad. Loved that car when it ran. Anyway... about a month ago I needed a car fast and one of their website caught my eye. I sifted through the multitude of negative reviews, was warned by friends and family etc etc. I base decisions on reviews mixed with personal experience. My previous was good so they had my trust. Called, applied, approved. Needed the rest of my down payment and Don was very patient yet he warned verbal agreements are not contracts and the car could sell. Lucky me it didn't after nearly a week. Got a ride up there. Car was a little rough on the extrerior vs pictures but come on who's going to take pictures of small dents and paint issues in an ad for a used Car? They want to sell and get you on the lot vs have you ask 100 questions over the phone. Drove the car and was mostly pleased. Don even helped get me to the finance place to finish up paperwork. Sweet. Was in and out in a little over an hour and driving the 45 mins back home in my new used car. Here is where I want to give 4 stars... The airbag light came on. Prob a simple fix hopefully as VWs are known for wiring issues. They cover motor for 30 days not electrical. Still annoyed. I received the registration renewal 2 weeks after purchasing. Normally this is done by the dealership at time if purchase. A bit displeased at their lack of accountability with this as I feel after I called to make it known. Likely was overlooked by me in what I signed. Kinda sucked and I feel they could have taken care of this for me as a courtesy and returning good faith customer. Car was in an unreported accident but that has little to do with them at all and they may want to have mechanics be a bit more thorough. An independent looked over the car and explained that is why the headlight wobbles a bit when driving. Overall Don is legit and straight forward. Giving them a 5. I think people need to understand they are buying generally high mileage cars from a small lot and can't expect more than what the reality is. Have they screwed over people royally as some reviews suggest? Don't know. People are quick to post bad vs good experiences and expect the world handed to them sometimes. Will this car give me issues? No idea. If it does the dealership truthfully isn't 100% at fault once you buy. read more

Three stars for A-OK. Overall: Baldwin Auto Sales offers standard service you would expect at a used car lot. Check their website for inventory and don't avoid these guys if you see a car that you are interested in - the salesmen are reasonable. However, buyers should cage their expectations here as for any car dealer. Good: Online advertised prices are reasonable, and selection is above average for a used car lot. Courteous staff if you are an informed buyer. Others: It is a used car lot, and a business - you are not paying new car prices that justify great warranty service. The cars are not guaranteed to have been cared for in their previous life. The cars do get Smog check and major issues with the major systems were fixed before the car I purchased was placed up for sale. Don't expect them to bend over backward or spend much time or money fixing problems once you have taken ownership of the vehicle. Their salesmen are paid for sales, and you deal with the same salesman for basic warranty service. There is no financial incentive for the dealer to help pay to fix anything but a complete catastrophic engine/transmission failure immediately after the sale. They provide CARFAX on their vehicles, but not accessible online. You have to come to the dealer to see it if you don't want to pay for a CARFAX subscription yourself. If you want to actually look at the CARFAX they have, you should call ahead and tell a sales rep to print it out before you get there. They will probably do it if they don't get wrapped up doing something else. Not unexpectedly, there were no records at the dealer or at any of the listed service centers on the CARFAX report of any recent factory recommended maintenance. After the sale I immediately had an oil change performed and found that the oil filter was so dirty it was about to fall apart - a clear indication that the last oil change was too long ago. I had a few minor issues with the vehicle a month after the sale. I was able to fix them myself, which is good because when I questioned the dealer about the procedure for requesting warranty service he immediately got defensive. The salesman quickly fired off all the things the dealer wouldn't do but struggled to give me a straightforward answer as to how to request warranty service. Though they have a mechanic, apparently the process is to call the salesman, not a service department. I imagine that that process does not result in a lot of liquidated warranty claims. Recommendations for customers: - Check out the inventory and prices online. The online prices at Baldwin are reasonable, and lower than the sticker prices if you just go to the dealer. The salesmen will honor them if you print them out and bring them up during negotiation. - Get your own financing. It makes the sale go through quicker and gives you a stronger bargaining position. I had my own financing and was able to get a slightly lower price due to cash negotiation. If you rely on dealer financing anywhere you put yourself at the mercy of the dealer during negotiation. - Research the recommended service of the models you are interested. A used car with 30k+ miles on it, especially luxury or import makes, will have recommended service due. With a used car, there is no guarantee that the previous owner or dealer did things like change spark plugs, flush coolant, change timing belts, or even change the oil regularly. Probably the reason that the used car dealer even HAS the vehicle is that the previous owner was coming up to an expensive service interval and elected to trade in or sell the car rather than pay for the service himself. Factor into your budget the cost of the last (or last few) major service intervals. I had them done myself after the sale just to be sure it got done. Or, purchase a car from someone who has records. Or purchase a new car with a real warranty and service plan. - Realize the standard warranty from the dealer is not going to be very useful. It will only reimburse a fraction of the parts and labor for catastrophic failures of the engine or transmission. The high failure items (sensors, brakes, tires, axles, electronics) will not be covered, and it is in the businesses' best interest to avoid paying for anything other than a complete failure or seizure of the engine pistons or transmission. If you actually do have to use the standard warranty it will cost you a lot of money out of pocket anyway, due to the deductible and the nature of the covered components. - Like all dealers they offer an extended warranty, theirs through Alpha. There are two plans, neither of which cover recommended preventative maintenance. The plans did not offer enough value to be worth their cost. read more

Buyer Beware... They have some really nice cars here. If you find what you are looking for, great. Just know that if you have any problems with it, they will not try to help you with it. They want to sell the cars and that's it. Even if it comes with a basically useless warranty, they will not stand behind their cars. You are on your own. Take a mechanic with you, if you can, check everything before you buy anything from them. They'll tell you they'll cover any problems, but don't count on it. I bought a car there yesterday, and within eighteen hours when I went to drive it the car was shaking like crazy and the check engine light was flashing on. I don't know what kind of an ethical salesperson would sell a junk car like that under the guise of being a "great car that will last for years." I know "ethical salesperson" is an oxymoron, but still, this is low for anyone. Also, the owner does not allow test drives unless you have the money to purchase the car that day. We'll see what he does about this mess of a car he sold me, but at this point, I would recommend going to the junkyard down the street before you come here. Edit: apparently the problem was that the spark plugs got wet while they were washing the car, but we took it to the mechanic and the guy who sold me the car paid the bill. I came in to look at a Ford Escape. It didn't look all that bad and I asked to take it for a spin. After talking some numbers in the office first (no budging off price) the salesman had an employee move a couple vehicles parked in front of it. As the vehicles were being moved I notice an oil spot under the car. So it promoted me to look under the engine and I noticed it did have a leak. I notified the salesman and asked if I can pop the hood to evaluate further. Just then, the guys cocky brother comes walking up and the salesman tells him I'm looking at the engine. I told the two of them it had an active leak and it can be seen on the wiring. After that they said its completely normal for that type of vehicle to have a leak and that if a leak is a deal breaker that I best not bother test driving the vehicle. I then asked to see a Jeep that was around the same price and the brother said that vehicle might as well be leaking oil too ( in a cocky way). Matter in fact he said all vehicles that age leak oil. There is no bother going here for a used vehicle around the year 2004 because they all have leaks. If they don't have the integrity for a cheap car, why would they have it for anything else? SCAMMERS!!! Purchased a 2008 chevy impala ss from this place at their last location in LA Mesa. I was recommended by Chris or whatever his name is (I'll update this later with a photo of the documents) to take it to a local auto shop for a second opinion from Speedy Smog of La Mesa (7482 El Cajon Blvd. Suite B. LA Mesa, CA 91942). Sure enough 3 days after my 30 day warranty expired I was paying for a new rack and pinion. On top of that there has been various repairs needed within only the first year to include but not limited to rebuilding the transmission, replacing the front axle, faulty wiring to the engine fans, new radiator and several repairs still pending. I've reached out to them upon the first issues only to receive a "well you bought and the warranty is up" response. I've reported them to the better business bureau and since they've switched locations. I found a 2003 Chevy Tahoe with 151,000 miles on their website for $7,500.00 As soon as I show up, the sticker price says $8,500.00. When I asked the salesman he tells me "it's an internet special". Funny how It didn't say that on the vehicle or on the "internet". I went to test drive the SUV and the vehicle ran great. Fortunately for me the mechanic I use for my wife's vehicle is literally 100 yards away down the street. I had to ask repeatedly if I could take it down there for an inspection. They finally agreed and my mechanic said it needed some work but overall was a good vehicle. So I go back to the dealership and talk numbers. He tells me $7,500 plus tax and license, $8,200 out the door. I've done my homework and per Kelly Blue Book, this vehicle, with this many miles (a lot) will sell for $4,200 private party and $6,800 retail. (Of course his KBB says otherwise) So we go back and forth and the best offer they provided was $7,900. I even offered him $7,500...cash....full sticker price... and he still wouldn't take it. He said he would drop the price to $7,000 plus tax and license comes out to $7,900???? I'm no mathematician but the first offer u gave me the tax and license was only a seven hundred dollar difference now it's a nine hundred dollar difference? Regardless I was able to find a vehicle the same day at a larger, reputable dealership and they accepted my CASH offer the first time. $7,500 cash for that vehicle was a fair offer. Baldwin motors are delusional and greedy. Look to the left of your business. Carl Burger Dodge is a large dealership because they are honest. Look across the freeway. Drew Ford, and Drew Hyundai have cars flying off their lots. Just because you've been a "family" business for a certain amount of time doesn't mean anything. They'd be lying through their teeth if they say "oh we like being a small operation". This used car lot has one of the more well edited collection of cars I have seen. All cars on the lot had clearly been expertly detailed. We went based off a posted ad on-line advertising an SUV as $7999, when we went the sticker price was $1,000 more. It immediately made me prickly, but the salesman explained that was the cash price of the vehicle (and we we're paying cash). What I liked about the salesman (one of two sons of the owner, its family run) was that he was extremely nonchalant. There was no false cheer or joking. In fact, it wasn't even like he was selling you a car. He was very cool, factual and consistent. Terrible sales! Walked in the lot. Stood by the front glass door. Nobody greeted me so I went to look at their trucks and found 3 I was interested in. I walked in the office and was greeted by a guy who asked if "what can I do for you?" And I told him I wanted learn more about some of his trucks. I thought we would head out to see them, but he wanted ask me more questions. I told him which trucks I liked. I am thinking, does guy want to show me a truck or not. On our way to see the trucks I asked what he knew about each truck and he gave me a short answer and continued his questions for me. I wanted to drive one of trucks, but it would not start and he needs a jumper. At this point he wants to know if the price is in my range. I said it is right there. He wanted a more definitive answer before he put in the effort. So I asked if was interested in showings these trucks or not. He said, he did not want to deal with me because I had a bad attitude. My wife & I purchased a BMW from Don at Baldwin Auto Sales last week and we couldn't be happier or more pleased with the BMW and our buying experience. Don is decidedly and refreshingly non-pushy but was close by and attentive when needed to answer questions or explain anything. We learned this is a family owned business and the father has nicely set the tone as a non-pushy car dealership. Most sales people from other dealerships won't leave you alone, they're always pushing for the sale, but in our experience, you don't have to worry about high pressure sales tactics at Baldwin. My wife & I agreed after the sale that we will recommend them whenever possible, we believe the dealership to be a definite cut above the rest in terms of offering a pleasant and honest buying experience. RUN AWAY VERY FAST!!! If only negative stars were allowed... I can only imagine what would have happened had we actually purchased a car here. We went to look at a 2005 GMC truck that looked ok in the pictures. I called and spoke with Don about the Carfax and he said it only had one accident listed in 2006. We decided to look at it and he asked us to call before we came so we called a few hours later and let him know we would be there within minutes. We arrived and saw the truck near the street so we parked and looked it over. I saw someone come out of the office twice and walk back into the dealership. The description was, and I quote: " Pride-of-ownership truck. Very clean throughout and runs top notch. Carfax certified and guaranteed. Has just gone through pre-sale inspection, smog, safety, and certification." Not true at all. The truck was trashed and you could tell someone had abused it though in the pictures it looked good. It had a seriously dented rear bumper, leaks all over the bottom of the engine, duct tape on some wiring visible from the wheel well, a paint job that was black and horrible, with overspray everywhere and there were multiple stickers such as Raiders that had not been removed but painted over, and there were fingerprints in the paint. We didn't even bother to look inside and left. Don called about an hour later asking where I was on my voicemail. I called back to inform him we were there and looked at the truck and no one came out, though he knew we were coming and the truck was easily visible from the office. I explained to him the terrible shape the truck was in and said he misrepresented it. It was also impossible to believe that the serious dents in the back were done in 2006 and none of the other owners had bothered to fix it in the last 10 years. Don't bother with Baldwin auto sales or the owners son/salesman Don. I drove a total of 300 miles the day before Thanksgiving in Los Angeles traffic to have the owners son (Don) insult my 35 years of experience of working & teaching in the automotive repair field. It took us 4 1/2 hours to get there. The Buick Enclave I test drove had a pretty healthy oil leak, but according to the self proclaimed car guru Don himself, he said, "if it doesn't leave drops on the floor...it can't be that bad." I had told Don on several phone calls what I do for a living, and how I'm a licensed ASE Master Mechanic along w/many many years of experience & a teaching credential. I told him the whole right side & middle of the frame & under carriage was hosed down with oil. So then he tells me, "well, it does have 118,000 miles on it". I told him I have a 2006 Chevy Tahoe w/150,000 miles on it (which by the way I also found on CarGurus as well) at home that's bone clean underneath & it's never even had the valve cover gaskets replaced on it. I know, because I got all the service records on it when I purchased it from the GM dealer in Idaho. But, Don, instead of being concerned or offering to fix the SUV before sluffing it off on me....wanted to go inside & talk numbers. Forget this so called "family business". Run as far as you can. Plus, the bad Oman I saw was when a guy who had just bought a car THE SAME DAY came back with a check engine light on. Don had a scan tool plugged into it trying to get the fault codes on it. My question is, how did that car pass a smog check? I've been a licensed smog tech since 1984, and anybody who sells a car in California MUST have the car pass a smog check before you can sell the car. Thats the law. There is no way that vehicle passed a smog test with a check engine light on. It's an automatic fail if its emissions related. Either that, or they cleared the codes before they sent it to a smog station & had the monitors set before they smogged it. What I didn't tell him is that I've had a 7000 sq ft repair facility in Chatsworth since 1995 & I had cash with me to buy this thing. But, thanks to his rude behavior & his cavalier attitude,....I packed the wife & kids right back into my car & got the heck out of that place. Plus. After I got home, I looked him up on Yelp. And sure enough!!!....TERRIBLE REVIEWS!!! Big surprise huh? =)) People like this guy should not be in the business of selling used cars because he gives our industry a bad name. I would not do business with this car lot no matter how nice the deal may seem. Stay away!!! read more

Our salesman Don Baldwin agreed to give us payoff on our 06 Jeep wrangler, but decided to type the contract before getting the payoff information. Then said he couldn't change the contract after he typed it $387 short of my payoff. The 06 white jeep wrangler with 57,800 miles. It has a bad vibration when you let off the throttle around 55-60. I installed the lift over 2 yrs ago, not a professional. The tires are almost brand new but they're 33" and when I got them installed the vibration started. Replacing the U-joints didn't help. Last thing is, it has a cheap rough country 2.5" lift and has a really rough ride. If anyone goes to look at it, take for a long test drive on the freeway. We got a good deal on the vehicle we purchased, but the way they do business is shady. They priced our old jeep $4,000 above what he gave us for it and it not worth $16,500. . So on September 16th I bought a car from this dealership and they were very nice and helpful when selling me the car. However!, it took three months THREE MONTHS to get my registration! First they tell me the DMV lost the smog certificate for the car so I had to take time out of my busy schedule to go get it smogged and then still yet it took another mo the and a half or longer to finally receive my registration. I will never again but another car from Baldwin Auto Sales not will I EVER recommend them to Anyone. Do yourself a favor and take your business elsewhere!!! read more

Came into this place a couple of days ago to look at a Nissan Maxima for my dad who was flying to California solely to buy a Nissan Maxima. Loved the car they had and so my dad flew out to see it. And a few others of course. We called 15 minutes before we got there to see if they could get the car out of the inside so we can test drive. They told my dad that when we got there we could test drive. So we get there and specifically tell them as we have done a ton of research on used Maximas and know a good deal when we see them. This particular car seemed reasonably priced. We ask if we can test drive and are immediately brought to the salesmans desk (can't remember his name) to "go over the number first" which was fine. As we sat there and asked if we could drive the car so that we could go look at another the salesman seemed extremely irritated and told us that he was. It going to get the car out of the showroom until we went and looked at the other car first and then came back. My response was that I have purchased many cars and never had them be so insistent on not letting us take the car for a test drive. He said he needed to pull credit and then asked what else we were looking at. When we told him that we were looking at a similar model 2 years newer with 20,000 miles less. His response was why in the world would you want to buy our car then? My thoughts were wow I guess he doesn't want us to buy a car from them. My dad mistakenly said a price that was lower and he basically back tracked and blamed him. I tried to explain to him that the other car was stock and thought it would be great for him to test drive both to make a decision on what he likes most. As he back tracked after being completely rude to us he said oh well then you should test drive this car as this other one is stock ....as he is looking at the other car we found online cause we told him where it was. We just got up and left. Was amazed by how unprofessional this guy was. I never felt an ounce of customer service. Needless to say we bought the other car today that didn't have all the awesome upgrades because we did not want to go back to this place. read more

Who cares about friendly people if they do not step-up and do their job. I bought a 2004 Nissan Murano in August 2011. I bought the car "as-is", with a check list of things that all checked OK (a check list that seemed to be coming from a Mechanic), but the engine light was on. The dash board computer showed that I had to do an oil change, so I thought that was the reason for the engine light. When I did an oil change and the engine light stayed on I discovered a "Cam sensor position error". The dealer tried to have someone work on it (an in house mechanic) but did not resolve the issue. He took it to a Nissan Dealer without repairing the issue. He told me that Nissan "Could not resolve the issue", but at the same time offered to sell me a warranty and back date it!!! Wait a minute ... if Nissan cannot fix it, why is he offering me a warranty? I went to Nissan and they said they could fix and they even gave me a quote!!!! I guess I got screwed - So be careful when you deal with Baldwin Auto Sales even if they advertise that they are a family business for so many years and care about people bla bla bla bla ..... read more
