We ordered a very nice mixed BBQ platter and fried okra. The okra was especially nice, not too greasy. Everything could have been a little more flavorful, but it was all cooked nicely. She kept our drinks full and the other waitress who took over for her for us to-go cups for our leftover coffee! So nice and generous! We are every scrap of our leftovers even! First time to this restaurant after leaving Bronner's in Frankenmuth. It wasn't busy at all when we came in, the server was very friendly. We ordered Ribs basket & Baldwins Smokehouse signature burger. The ribs are tender until the last one, I saw some fat and couldn't finish it. The baked beans is perfect combination with ribs, warm and tasty. The burger is thick and look delicious, I tasted a bit of the pull pork which on top of the pattie and it is so yummy. Being from Texas I never thought I'd have great BBQ in Michigan - but guess what - I did! The exterior of the building is unassuming. The interior is less than that - but is extremely clean. During a pandemic - cleanliness is important. It's dimly lit inside and not in a good way - unless you have a love affair with Bbq maybe? The staff is great. They are attentive and extremely friendly. 5 stars for the service. My friend and I ordered the rib baskets - that comes with 4 ribs and one side. I choose the Mac and cheese. He choose the coleslaw. The Mac and cheese is delicious. The sauce isn't thick - but is delicious. I don't like coleslaw too much so I didn't sample that. The ribs - amazing. Juicy and tinder - fall off the bone lusciousness coated in a sweet BBQ sauce. I'm not exaggerating when I say these ribs are perfection. If I lived nearby I would definitely make this a regular dine in option for myself. Lastly - we ordered desserts to go. Banana pudding and peach cobbler. Save room for these - trust me. We were greeted when we came in, but the hostess seemed confused when we weren't picking up a takeout order. Food is bland. The blooming onion appetizer needed seasoning/salt. The smokehouse signature burger pulled pork was surprisingly flavorless. They put homemade bbq sauce on the table which was smoky, sweet, and flavorful overall which is why I was surprised about the pulled pork. Girlfriend had the pulled chicken sandwich and it too was practically flavorless. Mac and cheese was grainy instead of creamy. Crinkle cut fries looked store bought. Weird elevator music was playing too loud for the number of tables in the restaurant. Only a couple tables at dinner on a Sunday should have clued me in. Decor is dated and plain. Restaurant was clean at least. Server brought us extra fries when the amount included with my burger was lacking. Server disappeared for a while after she brought our food. We saw her come out of and go back into the kitchen several times with takeout orders, but she never even looked at our table. Took a while to get our bill once we were done eating though. read more

Really good BBQ. We went with a large group, a youth sports team plus parents, so between us we had a LOT of different menu items. Most were very good, a few were excellent, only one miss. And the prices were reasonable. For the meats we had St Louis ribs, pulled pork, brisket, and one kid got the ribeye. All the meat was really really good. Excellent smoke flavor, cooked right, just very happy. The sides were also quite good: baked beans, Mac n cheese, green beans, fries, even the collard greens got a good review (which is rare). The appetizers we got were the nachos (HUGE), and the chili, which was out of this world. Some of the best I've ever had. Good sauce too, really enjoyed that. The only miss was the sweet tea, which was not fresh and not good at all. They said they were making more, I still gave it a pass. Overall, very good place. This is legitimately the best Barbeque joint anywhere in Michigan. (Coming from a server who has worked in Smokehouses) The atmosphere is cozy and inviting and the service was immaculate. Food comes out slower than most places, which I questioned at first, but upon talking to our waitress we found out this is a family owned business and everything is homemade- down from cutting the onion and battering it for our onion bloom to the macaroni and cheese we had on the side. The owner came out and greeted us to make sure we were doing well and was extremely gracious and kind. The restaurant is also incredibly clean- there were no smudges on the glass dividers, no dust on the ceilings, the floors in the bathroom were legitimately SPARKLING, which made me feel confident that the kitchen looked the same way. If you're looking for reasonably priced barbeque, for two of us it was cheaper than Applebees. If you support small and family owned businesses this place is a hidden and WONDERFUL find. This restaurant is legit BBQ and soul Food. This is not something like Famous Dave's or Logan's. All of the food is made in house. Let me go with the pros. The food comes out hot. That's pretty much the only pro. But the service is good as well. Here are the cons. The food is very very smokey. Yes I know it's A smokehouse but you can't smoke everything with the same wood, which is exactly what they do. The three meat platter had chicken on it that was inedible. The brisket was very good and the pulled pork was fair. Another item that was ordered was a full rack of St.Louis ribs. The ribs were fair. They had good sauce as well as the rub. However, the ribs themselves were very tough, but did have good smoke. The catfish fingers were four fillets of catfish. The fish was very, and I mean very fishy. You will need to douse it with hot sauce or their house sauce which is very mayo or ranch based. The best part of the meal was the banana pudding. My only complaint would be the ratio of Nilla wafers to pudding was heavy. However, the pudding itself was on point. Two thumbs up. The sides that were purchased were mac and cheese and potato salad. The Mac and cheese was very bla. Not really any flavor. The potato salad tasted more like egg salad. I didn't see any potatoes in it. I believe the cornbread was an attempt to create a hybrid hockey puck for the NHL. To that end, I think the restaurant does try hard. I will most likely try it again, but give it some time.
