I stopped in here while driving through, having never been to the area. I saw the wood fire roaring at the back of the outdoor kitchen and thought yep, this is going to be good. I ordered the brisket sandwich. I've eaten a lot of brisket at a lot of places but I've never had it charred over fire. It shockingly good. I would say maybe the best brisket I've ever had. The meat itself was super tender but still moist, then the char brought out all the flavor. I tried the sauces, all of which were good but the meat was the star of the show. Went here on a Thursday night and it wasn't too busy. It was outdoor seating and some indoor kinds but still outside. The cook was nice and friendly with help with bbq sauces and what to get. There were a lot of options and sauces available in the fridge. I got the pulled pork sandwich with Mac and cheese. The pulled pork was really juicy and there was a lot of it, the house sauce was very different than what I've had before but was really good nonetheless, the Mac and cheese was also bro and ready which is always nice, I will definitely stop by next time I'm in bay city read more

5/5 for the meat here! It was fall off the bone and tender to perfection! While still being juicy and not too dry. They had a lot of sauces to choose from. None of them were actually hot in my opinion, but still good nonetheless. The pickles were delicious and crispy! They don't come with any sauce, but you can choose your own from the many options in the little fridge. The sides of coleslaw and Mac & cheese were okay, but not something I'd pick out again. But the main reason to check this place out is for the slow cooked meats. All the meats were amazing! There was plenty of seating inside and outside in the front of back of the restaurant. thae last time i came to this place was at least 12 years ago, and now i know why, i believe i had the ribs , back then, so i ordered a half slab ribs and two sides. i asked the guy at the rib shack how are the ribs, he told me 4 hour ribs, no way these were over done, somewhat burnt. not sure if these were left overs from yesterday and warmed up on the grill, but thay were bad. i do alot of smoking meats myself, that would blow these out of the water. the market i like the outdoor metal shack is cool, they have everything you need, from drinks to sauces, even a hand washer when you leave, but when you pay good money for bbq you exspect good bbq in return.bake beans were ok and the coleslaw was lacking , somewhat dry, very little mayo, with no tang.thats 2 times now, something has to change. probably wont be comming back.....sugestion fire the pitmaster. totaly unaceptable. not worth the money. prices are too high. read more

We were in the area so (of course) I looked up on yelp the most recommended bbq place to try. I was happy to find this interesting (open air) restaurant. There are tables available to eat at but it seems most take their food to go like we did. They were comfortably busy, patiently waiting in line for our orders. I chose an entree that wasn't on the menu because I wanted the pulled pork and the brisket. They gave large portions of both with my choice of Mac n cheese and the baked beans (with meat in them). The Mac n cheese was bland but ok and same with the beans. My friend got the black and blue burger with added bacon and waffle fries. He, unfortunately, didn't like his burger as it was to well done and dry though I requested medium. I would go again but try different sides but he wouldn't go back at all. The menu had great options for ribs, chicken, pulled chicken, kielbasa, bratwurst, hot dogs, and a few other meats. The two sides we had were excellent; beans and broccoli salad. There are lots of good sauces abailable; my favorite was the ghost pepper sauce. The service in both the restaurant and the meat market were exceptional. Our food (ribs and half a chicken) were delivered quickly and hot. At the meat market, the owner made us a half pint of fresh ghost pepper sauce. It was a special request and he accomodated us with a smile. The ambiance is simple but comfortable decor. My husband and I shared a Junior sampler, with 4 types of BBQ meat: ribs, chicken, sausage and brisket. The sauce was light and flavorful. The meat was juicy-deliciousness. We had a side of baked beans which were right up there with the best we have ever had. Incredible homemade dinner (literally, we watched the staff BBQ our food on an outside open barrel grill.) Across the parking lot is the near market and Deli. Based on Reviews, we had our heart set in the Hen House salad: spinach, chicken breast, roasted tomatoes, hard boiled egg and pecan pieces, served with homemade ranch dressing. Super choice. The salad was wonderfully fresh and the perfect balance to the flavorful Jr. Sampler. The toasted bread from our BBQ entree went nicely with the salad. The total tab came to just under $30. Seriously delicious, money-well-spent meal. We are also very cautious with COVID. The open air feel of this walk-up-and-order restaurant with spacious outdoor seating was another plus. There is even a station available for hand washing outside. Most patrons wore masks when inside the building though the staff did not. They were distanced from customers, there was plexiglass between the staff taking orders and customers, lots of open air flow, and quick turn-around. All in all, we felt safe. I like the casual, open air vibe of the place. Portions were huge. But the food really disappointed. I got the southwest chicken sandwich which I would give 1 star. They forgot to put the guac on it but added after I went back up to ask for it, but it didn't make a difference to the taste rating either way. This is a spot that has great barbecue! It's really confusing because it's part of a market called meats & Moore... But it's not actually connected it's in their parking lot... It is some of the most legit bbq in North America. Seriously this was really delicious. I had a Polish sausage that was almost a foot long deep fried first and it was then charred the outside. Not healthy but totally delicious. Only reason I didn't give this place five stars is because it is seriously dirty. The kitchen is a mess and could really really use a cleaning... and a deep fryer grease change Like there are leaves and dirt on the kitchen floor. Right when you get out of your car the smoke of the local hardwood suffocates your nose, in a good way. You can actually see, the pit right in front of you as the grill master finishes bbq meats on the pit with just the right amount of char. On my first visit, I got the junior bbq sampler, and the portion size was very generous! Brisket, which was very juicy and fork tender. Best pit bbq ribs I've had in a long time. Bbq chicken which was moist with some good grill marks for extra flavor. And sausage, which are house made. I'm not usually a fan of sausage but these were really good. Honestly, I ate most of my meal without sauce but they have a large selection for sauce heads like 8-9 sauces which were all pretty tasty! The bread served with the brisket sandwich is also really good-not a regular bun but a thicker slice of something else, not baguette, maybe Italian, not sure but very good. A little toasty. My brother and sister-in-law had Meaty's cater their wedding and it was incredible! The meat was perfectly smoked, the sides were on point, and the sauces were flavorful. I couldn't decide if I liked the smoked chicken or sausage links more, and the habanero sauce was excellent on the pork. I ate most of the meat naked because they had great taste and smoke without masking it with sauce. They have about 10 different sauces. I enjoyed the occasional dip in the golden (sorta a honey mustard mix) and the jalapeño. The brisket had a lot of fat and the Mac and cheese was average and flat. The carmelization on the meat was perfect. The meat is juicy and flavorful. You really dont need sauce, but if you do..they have chipotle, habanero, jalapeno, meatys and a golden vinegar based sauce. All very good. My recommended sides are the baked beans (with sausage and pork), and broccoli salad. The place itself is simple yet charming. Plenty of seating, picnic tables inside and out.
