My son went in a few years ago in which they put him in expanders, when we got to the braces part it was slow and he had them for two years, his bottom row was still a bit crooked and after thousands of dollars they suggested a phase two in which we said no, they gave him a retainer and when it broke they said it's fine, they didn't file the glue on his teeth either after his braces saying it will come off on its own, it never did read more

I had a great experience at this office! Ana Calles is an excellent orthodontist who made my smile perfect. I came in here looking to remove my permanent retainers that I had on for 17 years. I knew I would need to get removable retainers to keep my teeth straight. The office staff is very professional and kind. I had to go into for quite a few appointments to get it just right. The gap in my teeth quickly returned when I had the permanent retainers removed- Ana was creative and helped me come up with a solution so I could have a perfect smile for years to come. She is patient and extremely good at what she does. The price was fair for the work, and the service was top notch. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for a perfect smile. Two kids under Dr Tom Bales care, the oldest started braces in 3rd grade when she finished Dr. Bales said she did not need a retainer. Fast forward to high school years, the teeth are moving. Seems like the focus is on generating more revenue streams than long term orthodontic success. Went to another Ortho for a consultation, who was horrified at Dr. Tom Bales recommendation to abandon the retainer in middle school, which is apparently a must post braces. My child gets to spend half of HS in braces and thousands more because a retainer was omitted from the post braces care plan (which undermines the care). read more

This place has been incredible! I was very anxious in the beginning and they took care to go slowly and explain everything. I picked the Invisalign option and spent the next two years popping into the office every few months to get new sets of trays and continue my treatment. I am so happy with the results. I took my 5 year old to see Dr. Bales (in Santa Rosa) the other day. I've know for a while that my daughter has a very narrow upper jaw and it effects her breathing, speech and even swallowing sometimes. Basically her little mouth needs a good bit of help. Seeing an ortho is part of the big picture in terms of treatment (also includes ENT, pediatrician, etc). My daughter had built up a lot of courage for the visit (she hates doctors) but once we got there she got very scared and shy. She hid behind me and under the chair for the first 20 minutes of talking with Dianne, the hygienist/assistant. Dianne was AMAZING! She was sweet, quiet and silly. She was so patient and took the time to make her feel comfortable. She let Dianne take the panoramic x-ray; I can't believe my girl willing put her head in that big machine! When Dr. Katie walked in the room, the shyness started all over and this time Dr. Katie was the amazing child whisperer. My daughter let her do the full exam! She was all up in her mouth! Turns out that although my daughter will need some orthodontic care in the future, she just too young right now. Dr Katie recommended an orofacial myofunctional therapist for now and told us to contact her when my daughter is 7. She answered a bunch of questions, asked a lot of really good questions and offered to write a report for my daughter's care team to add to the overall picture. Pretty cool to have a doctor not recommend treatment when it's not yet needed. We're looking forward to becoming patients in a little over a year. I'm sad, but not surprised, to see the response to my review. I was contacted at home on Friday evening, as I was winding down with my family. Both the timing and the phone call were unprofessional. I won't go into detail other than to say it was not a conversation and confirmed my review. Blame was placed squarely on me and my child for poor service, and I was told I held responsibility for my review negatively impacting the practice. Yes, I hung up since it became very apparent the conversation, or lack of, was not productive. I will let the before and after photo speak for itself and add that first photos were taken 2/12, service finished 12/16. This child has zero cavities and X-rays have shown wisdom teeth were never an issue. And not cool, ethical, or legal to name my child in your response to my review. read more

Great while actually in braces.. The owner and his daughter are sooo nice even did a couple checks on me.however I've had my braces off for 3 years, due to my error I've had to get replacement retainers and they were just so rude to me. This isn't a free service either I paid 300$ for just the bottom retainer so I felt I should of been treated nicely like a good paying customer. now 2 years later and I've lost the bottoms again but I'll be finding a new orthodontist to make me a replacement this time read more

We trusted our pediatric dentist 100%, Bales was recommended and one of the few with appointments available. Both my kids had braces through them, my son's (phase one) treatment was successful. My daughter's braces were a joke. Every 4-6 weeks go to get them tightened, the dental assistants were grossly unprofessional whenever we questioned the need to continue (and once we demanded they be removed made my daughter incredibly uncomfortable talking about how she should keep them on as long as they wanted her to, two assistants in particular were always incredibly rude). They put some things on the back of her front teeth and when they removed them, didn't remove all of them! They said they'd "do it later". We specifically had to come back for them to do that (after their dentist said what the hell), and remove my son's palette expander that had been on there so long his baby teeth couldn't erupt and fall out. They get their billing confused constantly, they only have appointments with an Ortho certain days of the week since they have two locations (would have been nice to know beforehand). I liked the dad who was running the business when we started. His daughter seems to be more interested in the money. Tom continually delayed treatment for my son saying it would be silly to start until he had passed certain stages. His daughter would have been happy to start him right away. Luckily he stayed long enough that he facilitated my son's care. My daughter wasn't so lucky. We didn't shop around for an orthodontist, we should have. We should have done more research and saw multiple places before deciding on such a big investment. read more

This place has exceeded my expectations and are no doubt second to none in my book. I came in as pretty much a horrid mess (no joke) and now have amazing teeth. Besides that, what's different about Bales is that they're a family run business which makes for a very homey atmosphere; also, Dr Katie Bales and her father are very educated and are very affable. Dr. Katie Bales is simply THE BEST. From the first time we met her and her staff, everyone was friendly, welcoming, calm and supportive. I had let the office know ahead of time that my daughter had had a traumatic frenectomy a few months prior and as a result was terrified of any dentist, orthodontist, periodontist, literally anyone who would ask her to lie down so they could examine her teeth. It was so sad to watch her in fear, shaking and crying. We had tried a child dose of valium, melatonin, you name it. It was that bad. So when Dr. Bales said that my daughter needed expanders, I was nervous. I thought - no way is this every going to happen. My daughter is too scared and at 8 years old, if she doesn't want to open her mouth for a doctor, she's not going to do it. When I told Dr. Bales about Mia's trauma and fears, she suggested that Mia come into her office on her day off and try to put her expanders on. GENIUS. This way there were no other patients there, no other noises or distractions and just an incredibly supportive, confident, sweet orthodontist in her mom clothes (since it was her day off) and my daughter. Getting my daughter in the door that day was tricky. But as soon as we were inside and saw Dr. Bales, she put my daughter at ease immediately. She answered all of my daughter's questions and addressed all of her concerns. She kept my daughter calm, told her great stories to keep things light and funny and interacted with her so she felt like she was part of the process. She literally checked in with my daughter every single step of the way and made it my daughter's choice to decide if she should proceed. That was huge for my daughter. Dr. Bales spent an entire hour on her day off with my daughter and got her expanders in with no problem and no tears. Honestly, I left in shock that my daughter got through the appt with such ease and even a smile. Dr. Katie is A GIFT. I will be forever grateful to her for giving my daughter such a positive experience. Dr. Bales even called us that afternoon herself to check in on her. Now that's special. She is also a mom and brings that gentle, caring, understanding mama vibe to her patients. You will be lucky if you choose her as your orthodontist. read more

I love my teeth, my smile and I owe it to both Dr. Bales and to Dr. Katie. I did my 1st phase of treatment when I was very young with Dr. Bales and then my 2nd time in braces was with Dr. Katie. Both Dr's. were great. Dr. Katie especially, because I was a teenager, not really totally excited about having braces, but ended up getting through treatment quicker than I thought, and my senior portrait smile was huge!
