This place is wonderful. I received a call at work from my daughter's school. She had a wire sticking out that was poking and hurting her. I drove over to the school and saw a wire had come out from the back right bracket. I figured I would just drive to Dr. Bernstein's office and see if they could squeeze us in. I walked in and let the ladies know what the situation was. The Dr was not in, but one of the assistants said she would see if the trim could be cut back. Five minutes later, my daughter was happy as can be and I was on my way back to dropping her off at school. All in all it was about 45 minutes I was gone from work. I definitely recommend this place. They have a great program for payment plans too. read more

While I do think that the actual doctor is very knowledgeable and showed interest.In my case and empathy, the staff and the sales rep, were terrible. There was someone shadowing and the main tech didn't say anything, about that until I had to ask if they were training during my session and then she acknowledged it with " Oh yes she is shadowing, sorry I should have told you that sooner." Most of the staff looks like they're under twenty five and from a business standpoint when I see that it makes me think that the owner of the business is not paying them that high which would make more experienced candidates go somewhere else. While I think the whole esthetic of it looking like a zoo is great for kids, this is not a good place for adults. Orthodontics are expensive, it is difficult to get around that, however considering that my teeth weren't that bad (I had braces as a child), was coming in for a bite misalignment and TMJ pain, Doctor said "You have a great smile, your bite isn't that bad, that being said fixing your bite should reduce or possibly change your clenching issue..." The price for visiline was outrageous. They quoted me out about 6000 thousand USD. They're advertisements in the sales room claiming that their smiles are better than their competitors is False. In one of the posters, the model is using a facial technique to make it seem like there smile is flat when really they are moving their mouth and jaw akwardly. I used to be a professional model, so I can tell when the model in the photograph is doing weird things with their face. I would shop around before you choose this place. I rarely make reviews. Only when I love or dislike a place. But so many staff their were just unprofessional that I just had to write this. read more

I went to Bernstein's because i know a lot of people that sent their kids there. For kids, it's probably great. For adults, not so much. I clench really bad, I use a night guard every night, and am getting jaw joint and ear pain. I'm getting braces as an adult to help correct my bite and reduce clenching and pain. They told me I wasn't a candidate for invisalign because it is only for very minor adjustments. They also said because I am getting regular braces, I can't do a night guard. I believed what they said, because they are the professionals. I should have gotten a second opinion. This place is just a mill. They only have one product and they will tell you anything to get you signed up. I made the mistake of having them put on today without research. I will be calling Monday to see if they can remove them. After doing more research, I can get a special night guard for braces and better yet invisalign. Their website says they do invisalign, heck they said they do invisalign, but if you look around in different areas of the website, they only do invisalign touch ups. That's a very different thing. Hopefully they will cancel the contract and not charge to much to remove them. They don't care about what's best for patients. read more

Kids 1st follow up appointment today at 3:00 pm. Expectation from initial braces visit is that they get new wires and color bands. Kids arrived at 2:56pm. They weren't called to the back till 3:15; 3:20pm. Kids didn't get their color option bands. One kid only got one of the two wires replaced. Why don't they do WHAT they SAY they will do? I went in to get what was promised from their first appointment. Disappointed in their lack of service and attention to detail. On their door they have a sign that says "if customers are 5 minutes late, the appointment will be rescheduled. No Exceptions." Their lack of respect for our time angers me. By now it was 3:45. They had to get a technician to come out and try to explain why wires weren't changed out and why color bands were not offered to them. The technician was nice and offered to put the color bands on them immediately. Both girls were able to get their color choices. Kid's braces were paid for, so is this a tactic of the office to be negligent in their services by not changing wires or bands? Do they not complete services so that they can require additional future services and charge more? Whatever the office policy is, I'm very disappointed. All I see is they are a money making machine- without giving the services they promise. Unhappy with services. Let's see what happens on their next visit. read more

Today is a horrible day here. I come to get a new retainer and I show up a little early and they make me wait outside. Then I finally get in and I'm waiting for another 20 mins past the time I'm supposed to. I go to get the purple outline stuff in my mouth! They do my bottom twice because the lady couldn't do it right. Then the top three times! Three times. Each should've been done once. Just kinda annoyed because I came early because I knew it would take long but they didn't let me check in. I brought both my children to Dr. Bernstein. My daughter has had her braces off for 7 years now and my son had braces on for over 3 years when I requested that Dr. Bernstein's staff remove them. After 2 years of pretty much the worst customer service, horrible treatment and basically a lot of trainees working in my sons teeth for 2 years we were done with it. When Dr. Bernstein started his practice it was was great. Customer service was great, treatment was on point and the kids enjoyed going to the office. This place has gone so far down hill i would never refer anyone to this place. when you arrive you will not recognize anyone from your previous appointment. It's like taking you child to a factory. I tried to meet with Dr. Bernstein to advise him of what has happened to his practice now that he has allowed this whole "wow smile" thing to take over and I really can't say I think he cared. all I can say at this point is I DO NOT RECOMMEND!! Bottom line, they did a great job on my teeth. I would not call them a warm friendly staff but they get the job done. My problem is with how my treatment was presented to me, and what I was told about my insurance coverage. I have had braces two times before and I just needed a few teeth moved back for a total of 8 teeth that would have treatment. These teeth move fast, I told him that and he said it would be no more than 6 months. My teeth stopped moving back into place after 3 weeks. At my 2 month appointment he said we can take them off, then after seeing my look of puzzlement (I am paying for 6 months and was told it would take that long and I would be charged more if it took longer) he said why don't we adjust one tooth a little more, we will take them off next month. There was zero noticeable difference to my teeth or bite in that one month. When I arrived to have my braces removed I inquired if this reduced my cost by any amount, I was told no. seriously? On top of that I have been trying to get ahold of their financial staff since the month after I had my braces because I received a letter from my insurance stating that they would not cover my braces. What a surprise because their finance lady left the room and called them, then returned and told me that they would be covering me. I have been trying for 4 months now to contact her and never get a call back and every time I go into the office she is not in. I feel like I was hoodwinked by them into this. I could afford the braces because I had insurance covering it and it was only 6 months, bam they are off in 3 months with no money off and oh ya my insurance is not covering me and I cannot get a hold of anyone who can answer my questions. I love my orthodontist. Not only does he use cutting edge technology (the Damon system) he has a wonderful bed side manner AND he is not just trying to get your money. He is really concerned with your overall well being. He recommended braces over invisilign and even tried to talk me out of it altogether unlike the other orthodontists who shrugged off my problems with short roots and other issues. So of course I chose him to do my treatment. The above would be enough for me to go see him but there is more. His Santa Rosa office is fun, the people are helpful and you'll get great service not to mention cookies after your appointment. I am an adult and was concerned about feeling silly in my orthodontist office. Not here you won't. There are other adults and you can sit by the expresso machine so you don't feel like a 12 year old. But hey, they let us in on the fun stuff too. I got my Bernstein Bucks so going to my orthodontist is a fun experience at Dr. Bernstein. Best of all, you can barely see my braces in most of my pictures and some people don't even notice I have them on. If you are an adult (or kid) who needs braces, this is the place to go! read more

HIGHLY recommended! I am a young adult who was looking for a non-surgical option for my severe over-bite. Many orthodontists had told me my only option was braces and serious surgery (which could leave permanent nerve damage). I was not excited about that option. Dr. Bernstein proposed using the Herbst device (a NON surgical option) as well as braces. It was incredible! Having braces is obviously not the most fun thing, but Dr. B and his wonderful staff made it mostly painless and a really pleasant experience. They really work with you so that you get the best orthodontial experience for you. My smile is better than I expected, and I'm still getting comments on how great my smile looks over 6 months after getting them off. Thanks Dr. B and staff! read more

Referred to Dr. Bernstein by a coworker. Specifically asked, "who is the best in town", and this is who she referred me to. Let me just say, it was a good fit from the beginning. I had to cancel the first appt due to school conflicts. Their office made sure to do a curtisy follow-up to reschedule. Very accommodating. Was able to work with my busy work schedule, and my very difficult ex-husband. :) Arrived on time and they did a panaroramic X-ray of my daughters jawline prior to me meeting the doctor. Then when we met, all questions were throughly answered. We had seen two previous orthodontists who had a completely different approach, and I really liked the conservative and confident approach Dr. Bernstein and his staff displayed. (He and his staff are their own models of his work). From the receptionists to the billing, to the technician, and the doctor himself... They were ALL VERY patient, explaining everything in detail from billing, to plan of care, to the actual care itself as it was happening. We truly appreciated all of it! Would highly recommend this place to anyone/everyone. The application of braces took roughly 45 minutes, and the staff kindly stayed over-time without even a grumble. Great experience! I'm sure Dr. Bernstein does fine orthodontic work but this his practice has been absolutely the worst business experience I have ever had in my life. I have never written a negative Yelp review, but this is really ridiculous. I paid off my balance several months ago, but I keep receiving threatening letters in the mail about how I'm a terrible person because I won't return any of their communications. This is no matter how many times I call to ask them about the crazy letter and they say "oh, sorry, that was a mistake, you can disregard that," and then the letter comes again the next month. Oh, and then there was the time when an hour before my daughter was scheduled to have an important procedure, they called and said that they refused to honor the appointment unless a payment was made, even though the account was completely current. Nothing like having your 16 year old daughter mad at you for no reason. When I tried to get this situation resolved, I was completely stonewalled. I kept calling, but no one who could help me was ever there, and I was promised a return call at least 10 times, but no return call was ever made. Instead they just keep sending threatening letters and calling at the last minute to say they refuse to honor my daughter's appointment. Finally I pretended to have a question about my daughter's treatment so that I would have a chance to see the doctor himself. This worked, but unfortunately all he could say is "I'm sorry and we'll try to get this resolved," and then nothing changed. Really hope I have made someone's life better by convincing them to take their business elsewhere. If you are one of the lucky few who are able to pay for the entire treatment up front, I'm sure you will not run into any difficulties. Otherwise, consider yourself warned. read more

Very professional and friendly staff. My 10 year old and 8 year olds have been going her for 1 year. They've had xrays and exams but I have yet to pay a dime. They were honest from the start that neither of my daughters would require treatment yet but they would continue to follow the develpment of their mouth and teeth and let me know when and if it is time for treatment. My girls love coming to their appts. The office is colorful, they have video games, they can win prizes, check themselves in electronically, participate in drawings, etc. Dr Bernstein is very friendly, professional and he makes the children feel very comfortable. I had braces a few years back through the Santa Rosa office and found the staff helpful. The overall experience was okay and I got what I wanted but if given the chance again, I would have gone elsewhere. I had multiple issues with my retainers and had to have 3 pairs made! Dr. Bernstein seems to have stretched himself a little thin but if you want things done correctly, I recommend specifically asking to see him for each visit. read more

My braces experience started when I was 8 at a different orthodontist who put me in braces that only solved a temporary problem and sent me to unnecessary speech therapy. After two years he finally told me I needed jaw surgery and there was no other option. Dr. B was my other option. I went through some interesting metal work along with my braces and it took a few years, but I wanted an alternative to jaw surgery and he did that for me. I could not be happier with my smile! I found Bernstein Orthodontists on Yelp so wanted to pop in now after visiting. My fixed bottom retainer popped out a few days ago and I needed someone to put it back in. I got an appointment within two days, showed up a few early to fill out paperwork, and they took me in within five minutes. Everyone was very kind, friendly, and efficient. Within an hour and ten minutes, my fixed retainer was fixed to my teeth again and I had a new top retainer to take with me. Their office is much more fun than the orthodontist I went to for braces...there's music, movies playing for patients to watch, and iPads for kids waiting or siblings to play on. I never imagined having the ability to fix their teeth and their financing program has allowed me to give my kids the gift of a beautiful smile. They do a decent job, but I never really liked my final results. I suppose natural is better, but was hoping for straighter teeth. The only thing that i can say that they are not really good at is maybe sticking with their "promotions" or plan. Once I finished my process I was told that I could get my retainer for free if the ones I had were either lost or damaged as it was part of my financing plan. The first set (top and bottom) would be for free and the second set would cost me. My original top retainer got damaged and gave them a call. They seemed skeptical about what I was telling them, and were hesitant about giving it to me for free. I made my appointment, and I told them once more about what I was told when I got my braces off. They told me that it was a promotion that they had a long time ago, and that it would cost $199 to get another set of retainers. Their giving me the top retainer for free, but if it were to get damaged I would have to pay. I just think that perhaps they should mark or note on the patients file/case when someone accepts a promotion. That way it wont seem so confusing to them or to the patient. Overall, they are nice people, but I think they have a lot on their hands that updating patient files may seem hard to do at the end of the day. read more

I am an oldie and while his office is super kid friendly, it is a great place for all ages needing help to improve your smile. He has to be one of the best in the Bay Area. The staff and everyone is wonderful. One bad experience can change it all. I would visit the Montgomery office and enjoyed the reactions with doctors and assistants. When I visited the Windsor office the doctor was off putting bad body language and didn't make me feel comfortable or confident with his decisions on my treatment plan when I asked if we could do it a different way due to my traveling plans the response was off putting. If I didn't pay for the treatment already I would take my business elsewhere. Instead of listening to my request his response was short and with attitude and made me feel uncomfortable and ridiculous. I will say that I do enjoy my visit at the Santa Rosa office and the doctor there gives you a feeling of actually caring of the outcome. I will never visit the Windsor office and don't think I could recommend anyone to this orthodontist for chance of getting this doctor and experiencing a situation like mine. I am sure he is very knowledgeable and was 100% right with his plan but I believe that may have been the reason for his off putting response and unawareness of his belittlement of my request. When you pay the amount that you do to receive service, you would expect to not feel as I felt leaving that office. This one star is more directed to the specific doctor that saw me and my personal experience that day not the entire company, up to this point I was extremely happy with my treatment. read more
