I understand this is a free service but if it's not going to be run properly then it's really a waste of resources. Too bad because I was really holding out hope this would be a great service and alternative way to work. I'll stick to my bicycle, thanks...

In theory, commute.org is a fantastic tool. If you live in Burlingame, north foster city, or a few…read moreother places in the peninsula, this FREE shuttle will take you to the Millbrae Bart/Caltrain or a few other Caltrain stops. It seemed like a great alternative to driving to the Millbrae for me (which is now $3 to park per day). The reality is, the company in which they contract (MV Transportation) hires cheap labor for shuttle drivers. This leads to missed routes, a communication break down, and many other problems. In my experience, accountability is crucial to my job, and because I need to get to work on time, so I can no longer use this service. Here are the three most recent encounters I've had: 1) I waited for the 7:59am pickup at 4100 east 3rd... I saw the shuttle turn around a block down the road and skip my pick up. This made me 45 minutes late to work. 2) I came earlier to the 735am pickup at 4100 east 3rd hoping to get to work a bit early... The shuttle driver skipped this stop, I arrived at 725 so I know I didn't miss it... (I'm assuming because he didn't have anyone to drop off) 3) the Bart was delayed 10 minutes. Normally I get on the 6pm shuttle frm Millbrae back to foster city. Because of my delay I arrived at the pickup spot at 610. The next shuttle came at 7pm. When we got to foster city (close to 730pm), the driver screamed at me in Mandarin, kicking me off the bus. He kept slapping a schedule I couldn't read. When I got off the shuttle (and walked 2.5 miles to where he was supposed to drop me off) I noticed the last shuttle (his shuttle) only does the one stop, not all of them. That's fine, unfortunate for me, but not his fault. However, since he dropped me off last time and when I spoke to a member of commute.org I was assured they do all stops, I was confused as to why the driver was kicking me off. Screaming at me, SHOUTING, and embarrassing himself and me was not the way to handle this. There was a lady on the shuttle who spoke Mandarin, perhaps if he wanted to explain the situation he could have explained to her to tell me? More importantly, what if there is a safety issue and the bus needs to stop? With this man speaking ZERO English, it seems like a dangerous opportunity for disaster. If you have a lax company about time and don't want to drive, this is a decent alternative (though time consuming). And their website is great. But the shuttle drivers and the lack of accountability from commute.org make this a LAST CHOICE for me.

Ferry boats will provide service on weekdays between Alameda, Jack London Square in Oakland, and this new SSF terminal (in that order). The project included 2 brand new state of the art catamaran style ferry boats (named Gemini and Pisces) that cost a total of $16 million to build, have space for 34 bikes (there's a water hose to wash your bike), comfy chairs, the covered area has a heater, a quiet VIP room in the top deck level, FREE WiFi, and a snacks bar (coffee during AM, wine and beer during PM). How cool is that! Yeah, similar to the SF ferries, but these new diesel boats produce 10 times less pollution. Only one SSF boat will run the 40 minutes route, the 2nd one is a backup. 3 East Bay boats (named Taurus, and 2 others) will also complete the route, coming from Alameda/Oakland. 2 Free shuttle bus lines (funded by local employers and San Mateo transit) service the nearby SSF neighborhood area to/from the terminal, during limited hours. See website for more details. There's 12 bike lockers for storage outside the terminal, and Free validated parking (don't lose that garage ticket). Pay w/clipper card or cash. One way ferry fare is $7 per adult, $3.50 for seniors and youth. But this week (M-F, June 4-8, 2012) u can try it for FREE!!! Otherwise, see link for the "Try Transit" program for 2 free roundtrip tickets ($28 value, limited to first 100 employees per company). http://sanfranciscobayferry.com/trytransit/ This project is part of a 2007 state mandate to have alternative means of transportation, reduce pollution, and also serve as a way for evacuation in case of emergencies like natural disasters. Future proposals (not approved yet) include adding this type of ferry service to the Berkeley/Albany area. I've been having to use it a lot lately - if your worried about the who ha flu bring your N95 masks. I see that the most seasoned Bart riders have that along with some reading material. Bart trains can get crowded. Especially during rush hour at connecting trains. Maybe avoid that if you can but if you've got a direct route you might want to give it a try. I recently saw a very model type lady get on the train here. She was very well dressed and chose not to sit down although many many seats were open. She angled her body slightly into the wall against a metal vertical handbar jamming her shoulder - locked in place. She didn't touch anything. Thats classy. She was a pro at this Bart thing. I don't remember what kind of mask she wore but I was curious how she could balance so well with the unpredictable starting and stopping of the train. She was wearing very stylish but sensible shoes that I remember thing was aiding in her balancing act. IDk you might not want to bring the children. For one thing they will want to touch everything..... but it depends on your parenting technique. I've personally not witnessed anything much except some youngsters smoking between the cars which I think could make a great designated smoking section anyway.

Liza was apologetic for the issues in rm 103, and made sure rm 315 was move in ready when we got back from lunch. Came back a week later because we loved this place. But this time around the room not so much. Four of us stayed in room 103. Last week we stay upper floors and the room looked cleaner, fresher, etc.., The carpet in room 103 is a tripping hazard, old and ripped. We didn't want to change rooms because we were exhausted from a straight 8 hour drive. Only reason I have a 3 star instead of a 1 star is because the front desk ladies are fantastic. I heard it was gabbys last day. So at didn't get to see her. Probably on maternity leave. She was prego when at met her. Jaclyn was helpful as always. But Lauren was exceptional. Even after having a long day, and rough time with a previous guest before me, she still gave over the top service. Friendly, helpful, and talked to us more than guest, was more like we were friends. Will we come back? Sure we will but it'll have to be an upper floor better room not a tripping hazard. I'm with a couple senior citizens that nearly fell due to the carpet. I'll post a photo as soon as I can get some bright lights.

Granted this hotel is a little dated, but the room was very spacious and very clean and it had everything that I personally would need. They do offer a free breakfast in the morning, which is fine and it's nothing special, but it will save you money from having to buy breakfast when you're in the city. The staff is very friendly and welcoming for the most part and there is one gentleman that really stands out as being an outstanding staff member in his name is Howard, who works at the front desk overnight. I had several questions and he gave me very good answers and made me feel welcomed. Across the street from this hotel is an amazing walking path that will take you around all of the biotech buildings and the view is incredible and it's very relaxing. Note that there is no fast food restaurants or any restaurants in the immediate walking area. You would need to catch an Uber to go to a mall or a restaurant.. after the conference concluded for the day, I quickly grabbed something downtown and took back to the hotel to watch TV and relax and eat. This restaurant does have a pool which is inside which looks very clean and well presented and they have two seating areas outside and one area has a gas grill and those were well maintained as well. Every morning I needed to catch either an Uber or Lyft to the city. Any average cost is anywhere from $23-$49 depending on the time.. So the bottom line would be if I'm back in San Francisco and attending an event in the city. I would definitely consider this hotel again for my future stays.
