Moved into my condo, and my mailbox didn't have a key. Got them to drill and replace the lock. Got quoted 75-85, and it was 85. He was here on time, and stick to the quote (albeit the high end of the quote, but at least it was nothing unexpected). Overall, would use them again. Wouldn't go as far as to say I wouldn't use anyone else, but they are on the list. One tiny thing, as a FYI, is that when you give them a credit card, they just write the 16 digits down on their sheet. Doesn't seem the most secure by any means, but it's been two months now and no identity theft, so I am assuming they treat that information with care. read more

I called Ballard Lock and Key when my key broke off in the door. They said they would be there in about a half hour (they were there in 15 minutes). They had the broken key out within 10 seconds and a new key made in 3 minutes. When it didn't work well, they made another key and then it worked perfectly. Bob saved the day (well technically night) when I got our front door in an unlockable state one evening in an attempt to DIY a smart lock installation. It was past 7pm on a Saturday night when I called, and Bob picked up the phone and said he's on another job but that he can come on a couple of hours if that works for us. He had me text him a photo of the partially reassembled lock, and while his initial reply was "Yikes!" and he told me not to touch the lock anymore, he reassured me he'll get it figured out, which indeed he did despite encountering a number of issues in the process of trying to get the lock in mounted and reassembled. I appreciated his down to earth and calm demeanor and his tenacity as he unraveled the puzzle that was the mess I made and got the original lock reinstalled. He gave me tips on what I could do if I still wanted to get the smart lock installed, and I learned quite a bit from him about how the old lock was put together. He even followed up a few days later to check in to see if I managed to install the smart lock (which I did). I'd definitely recommend his service to anyone else in need of lock service. read more

We got locked out of the master bedroom of our new house. Bob was the fourth locksmith I called but was the first to actually answer the phone. He initially said he might not show up until late afternoon but he actually showed up a couple hours earlier (after calling to confirm we were ready for him). When he got here he was able to unlock our door in less than 10 minutes. Then he made us two keys since the former home owner had not left any... and he didn't charge for the keys! Then he went back to the house and lubed up our entire front door and locks, just because he had noticed it was squeaky. Saying Bob is awesome is a discredit to this guy. I was an idiot and went to walk my dog without my keys (I have self locking doors) and got locked out in my PJs in this cold icy weather we've been having. I called up to get a locksmith and Bob wasn't able to send anyone since it was extremely busy on his end, but he gave me his buddy's number and everything work out. Top notch customer service and fast, high quality work for an affordable price. These guys truly go the extra mile and changed our locks and made new keys for our whole building (15 apartments) in under an hour and half, charging us a half of what we expected, on a Saturday. They also repaired my apartment door knob that had been unreliable and jiggly while replacing the lock, and then came back an hour later and cut my bikes u-lock without charging me after I realized that I no longer had the key. Highly, highly recommend. I've been meaning to leave this review for a month, since my apartment was broken into and my wallet and all my keys were stolen. The stress of replacing all my ID and canceling cards was a pain to deal with, but at least Ballard lock and key gave us immediate peace of mind by rekeying all of the locks in our condo building at a moments notice. An honest helpful company. Tonight I locked myself out of my apt. When I called Ballard Lock and Key they warned me about scammers and while I was waiting for them a scammer came and pretend to be my locksmith. At my door he more then doubled the price and threatened to drill in my lock. When I asked him to call the company back he said he did not know the number. When I said I was calling security he told me he would not leave. When Ballerd Lock and Key did come ten minutes later they said they consistently had to fight off scammers. They opened my door quickly and for the quoted price. Help stop scammers and keep honest local companies in business. Do not let some one change the price at your door. Get a business card and let them identify you. Call the police if they change the price at your door or act suspicious. read more

Bob was amazing! We needed a lock change because our home keys were stolen (wife's purse). I called Bob while I was at Home Depot after not being able to find a new cylinder for one of the doors. At the time I figured it would be best (cost and time) for me to just handle it myself, late on a Saturday. After a quick conversation he said he has the one I need and can be there in 20 mins, I was 15 mins away and said I would see him there. I got home to find him all ready there and ready to go. While at HD I picked up a "smart lock" with the plan to do the install myself on the other door. Bob made quick work of the 1st door, upgraded the hardware and added a safety ring that should have been installed originally. Then he took a look at the mess I had going with the smart lock and said he wouldn't touch that brand and model, his opinion was confirmed when I later looked at the reviews. He couldn't get the smart lock we should use until next week and knowing we needed the keys changed that night he went ahead and made the key change on that lock which would only been needed for a few days until he got the smart lock installed. In the end I couldn't have expected anything close to the service provided. And I was shocked when he told me the total, I would have paid 2 to 3 times the amount without a second thought. The deadbolt cam broke on the door of our travel trailer. I've got AAA, so I called them. They said "We don't do trailers, but we can find you a locksmith". Great, I thought, so they gave me a number. One hour later some idiot that I now realize had no idea what he was doing bent the door and made the situation worse. Onto Yelp to find a REAL locksmith, and up popped Ballard Lock & Key. I've rarely seen reviews as good as Bob has received, so I was a little skeptical. After speaking to Bob for 20 or so minutes (on a cold Friday before the Memorial day holiday weekend), he said he would do some more research and come over. I've rarely met some one with expertise in their field of profession as well impressive as Bob. He was able to pick the lock in seconds. Problem was the entire deadbolt lock set was ruined already. So out came the drills. Within and hour we were in, with no further damage to the door. Bob also suggested where we could get a new lockset (and they had it!). Bob saved an almost ruined weekend, and more importantly he saved us from some really, really shady people that are unfortunately preying on locksmithing industry. I've never had to call a locksmith before and it was Friday at 6pm before Labor Day weekend, I was looking at 3-day weekend of being terrified and probably having to hide at a friend's house. Spent first part of day recovering from robbery in lower Queen Anne and waiting for first locksmith-15$ dollar locksmith who came up first in the search rankings on google. $15 Dollar scam artist presented a $400 price tag that then moved all the way down to $200 when it was clear I was about to kick him out. Still it was Sunday, and a snowy day at that so I went ahead with the $200 offer. He fooled around for about an hour or so with the lock only to come up and tell me that: " he needed to run out to the hardware store"! Well, you guessed it. ....he never came back!!!!!!!! knowing I had signed a contract with the $15 Locksmith con artist, I proceeded to wait for hin to come back from "the hardware store" for four hours. I redialed the company switchboard and the locksmith's personal cell about ten times only to be send directly to vmail. Not only did he not do the job, but he was a total scammer who walked off the job and never came back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. . THANK GOD i found Richard and Cristina from Ballard Lock and Key. Rather than the shady guy in the cadillac , this husband and wife were AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! BEYOND AMAZING!!!!!! Feeling exceptionally violated by the robbery and scam locksmith I really needed some honest and skilled assistance. I am over the moon. Well, if the moon were up at noon. I have needed to get my locks replaced. They'd not been replaced since sometime in the Dark Ages. I first called a different (closer) locksmith, but they were really busy...so, on a whim, I called these guys. One five minute conversation later and someone was on his way! I love this place. I locked my myself out of the house yesterday evening. I realized it while away from home, and knew I wouldn't be back until late. I called the shop, told them the issue, and they actually made an appointment to see me later that night. I gave them a heads up as I was nearing home, and they were waiting for me when I pulled up. And also really well priced to boot -- I would have felt like I'd gotten a good deal if I'd paid the fee for a standard locksmith in the middle of the day, but the fee was a downright steal when you consider it was actually for an emergency, middle of the night call. We locked ourselves out. First thing in the morning on a Saturday. In our jammies. In the rain. The neighbor we'd given a spare key somehow lost it. The first locksmith we called (blindly) came from Kenmore, got lost and took well over an hour to arrive, and he couldn't get in. He tried for 10 seconds and then told us he should call someone with more lock-picking experience (he was over 70) and then he said he'd need to drill it out for almost $300. We decided to ask him to leave and called another locksmith. This time we got it right. We called Ballard Lock and Key and told them the situation. They sent a locksmith who arrived in 20 minutes and it took him all of 30 seconds to get into our home. Ballard Lock and Key will be our locksmith from now on, and we've given their info to all our neighbors (as well as extra keys, because standing in the rain for hours on a Saturday morning isn't my idea of a good time.) read more

We've been living with varying degrees of "pain" when it came to our front door - broken keys, door not closing properly, latch sticking, etc. Finally, our mortise lock finally gave out, and we've been walking through the back door for more than a year bc of crappy advice I received from a couple different "fly by night" locksmiths, about our mortise lock no longer being available and we should just replace the door completely.
