Lots of great selections here, but you won't find the entire classic Ballast Point beers or experimental menu items at this location. Good happy hour for food and drinks. The burger was delicious and they were able to cut it in half for us in the kitchen. The garlic Parmesan fries are tasty with a huge portion and plenty of garlic. Don't expect to kiss anyone after having the garlic Parmesan fries haha. Lots of seating, but not enough servers. Expectations were high, given that I've been here before. The ambiance is nice, but the food was a miss. While I did enjoy the beet salad, the side of chicken breast that I added for $7 was lacking. It was about 6 small chunks of chicken and burnt. The lemon pepper chicken wings were small and dry. No sauce was offered, and no sauce came in the to-go bag. Ranch would have helped the dryness. Well, let's start off with the good things about Ballast: 1) The prices are reasonable, 2) The portion sizes are decent, and 3) The food is delivered quickly. However, other than the host, Travis who seated us and was upbeat and friendly, the rest of the staff were mere humanoid robots. (I won't even get into the fact that you have to order via a QR code menu and likewise pay via your smart phone - no service there.) Once the food was delivered by a robotic humanoid with no personality, no one ever returned to ask if everything was OK or whether we needed anything else. The Caesar salad was delivered without any pepper (not even an offer of cracked pepper or a pepper shaker); and I failed in multiple attempts to flag any of the humanoid robots posing as servers. I finally had to stand up and physically accost a humanoid robot to ask for pepper and was handed a pepper shaker from behind the bar. The ONLY time that a humanoid robot initiated any contact with us was as we were finishing the last of our wine, we were asked whether we were through with our plates - obviously wanting to clear us out for the next diners (we had just finished our food moments before). Space/Ambiance (5/5): Came here for trivia night on Wednesday! Loved the setup and learned some interesting things. There are gift card awards for the top three teams. Trivia aside, the place is very spacious and a good place for large sized groups. Also plenty of TVs available to catch sports games, and they had a baseball memorabilia auction on a table and you could just write in how much you wanted to bid for various items. I live nearby so it was an easy 10 walk, but there are multiple public transit options to get there. Parking might be a challenge unless if you don't mind walking further or paying for a nearby garage (although looks like they validate parking). We initially sat in one of the booths because we didn't realize there's a whole separate area where they hold trivia on the far side from the main entrance. We had already ordered, but it was easy to ask the bartenders to switch our tables on the orders so that it got to us. Just gotta take note of what the table numbers are written on the little QR code menus they have at each table. Food (4.5/5): I got the shrimp tacos. A bit pricey for the size ($18 for 3 small tacos with 2 shrimps each; so $3/shrimp haha), but the shrimp was grilled very well and tasted great. My boyfriend got the pulled pork sandwich, and that was such a large portion for the same price as my tacos. He also got the falafels but couldn't finish them because the sandwich was just so filling. The flavor of the falafels were on point, but it's a shame they were pretty dry. Drinks (4.5/5): I like my IPAs, so I got the Sculpin and Aloha Sculpin to try something that's a bit of a different flavor. I love that there are different sizes available, so I just tried 4 oz of each since I'm a lightweight. I prefer the regular Sculpin. The Aloha version tasted to me like a slightly watered down and fruity flavored version of the original. My boyfriend opted for the nonalcoholic options, and the nonalcoholic hazy IPA tasted almost like a sour and you could definitely tell there's no hoppy taste to it. I ended up finishing it, but my boyfriend barely touched it after a few sips. He ordered one of the kombucha drinks after (I think the mango pineapple one), and it was really good! Overall (4.5/5): Tastes in food and drinks of course vary, but I think they have a good variety on offer. I feel like the ambiance might be a bit different if we weren't participating in trivia, but would still recommend for any beer tastings or a larger gathering! read more

I still tipped 20% since I just do that automatically, but there's really no service in the traditional way here if you think about it. The food was fine. Just your typical bar bites. Tho the fries were my fav. Very garlicky and savory. Definitely the best dish. The pretzel bites were too fluffy and chewy in the wrong way. I wanted the texture to resemble a carnival soft pretzel. The cheese was also too thin. The beers were good. I'm not much of a beer drinker if there's liquor around, but it's easy to sip on. My wife and a few of my friends from work decided to stop by for drinks. Ballast Point has a good selection of beer. We ordered the Two Towns cider and were happy with the 16oz pours. Coworkers liked the watermelon and grapefruit IPAs. I was not impressed with food bites. We ordered the lemon pepper wings and they seemed super salty and overcooked. The garlic fries with Parmesan and truffle were fine - my wife finished every last one. The online ordering system worked great and we got our orders pretty quickly. Love it! It's been a few years since I've been to Ballast Point in San Diego. So it was pretty exciting to see that the brewery now has a taproom in SF. The space is very fitting of the neighborhood. Cool, spacious, modern and lots of natural light. There are two large bar areas and lots of tables and seating. The beers were delish. Classic on taps for now and more to come later. I've been here three times and I've been disappointed every time. The food is average at best. My wife and I have tried the burger, chicken sandwich, fish and chips, flat bread, and wings. Regarding service, the location uses the QR codes for ordering, which means no one checks on you outside of bring you your items. Lastly, for a brewery, I am shocked at how few beers they carry, especially their own! Ballast Point has more beers than just Sculpin and grapefruit Sculpin, yet it seems like that's all they have from their own supply! One of the times I came here, they were out of their own beer and it wasn't even busy. I was so excited for this to open up when I first heard of it but I am honestly shocked at how bad this place is. After giving this three chances, I have no plans to come back. read more

Went to Ballast Point for a company event. This place is very spacious and can seat over 200 people. The restaurant is very clean and has a pristine sort of feel. You can see the brewery area through the glass walls in the hallway heading towards the restrooms. Our server was very attentive and has excellent beer recommendations. There was a happy hour special on the menu for that eat -- 6 wings and a beer for $10. You have the option to have the wings with sculpin hot sauce or Korean sticky glaze sauce. I preferred the sculpin hot sauce flavor more. Our table ordered a bunch of food and beers and shared it family style. We ordered (food wise): Wings, fish tacos, chicken burger, meatballs, crab slider, mini croissants, Hamachi crudo, and garlic fries! Beer: Ace Cider: Guava, Haze in the Park IPA, Flying Embers: Orange Passion Mimosa, Calico Amber, Aloha Sculpin IPA, and Grapefruit Sculpin IPA. Overall, this place is great.
