There's a merch store when you first walk in. And just like most places in the area, it is pet friendly! 4/5 Chicharrones - never had this served with guac. Pleasantly surprised! Awesome ambience with great beers, great service, and great food! Ambiance- tall ceilings, plenty of areas to sit with furniture of your choice -- the bar with high stools for a casual experience, table with 4 chairs for a sit down experience, etc. The place is huge so it's easy to get a seat! Beer- their selection is really good, and I love how they sell 4oz pours so you can get a little bit of something so you're not stuck with a whole pour of something you don't like. I like their watermelon beer the most! Food- the food pleasantly surprised me! They have a good bar bites selection, that seems thoughtfully made, not just some old slapped together bar food. Service- everyone here is so nice! They seem like a family, and I got the sense there was a good camaraderie here among the staff, which always trickles down into the environment. I've been here three times and I've been disappointed every time. The food is average at best. My wife and I have tried the burger, chicken sandwich, fish and chips, flat bread, and wings. Regarding service, the location uses the QR codes for ordering, which means no one checks on you outside of bring you your items. Lastly, for a brewery, I am shocked at how few beers they carry, especially their own! Ballast Point has more beers than just Sculpin and grapefruit Sculpin, yet it seems like that's all they have from their own supply! One of the times I came here, they were out of their own beer and it wasn't even busy. I was so excited for this to open up when I first heard of it but I am honestly shocked at how bad this place is. After giving this three chances, I have no plans to come back. read more

First thing, they validate 2.5 hours of parking. That alone is worth over $10 - $10 that you can use towards a beer or two. Second of all, when you walk into the restaurant you see a wall of taps to your right, the steel tanks to your left, and the merchandise in front of you. Depending on the time of day, you can seat yourself. There are QR codes on each table and if you need they have a paper menu for you. With the QR codes, you can place your orders and choose to keep the tab open or close it. For those who are not technology savvy, they come by to take your order. Note: it seems like more breweries (and restaurants) are moving towards this system and in my honest opinion, I think it is great because it helps facilitate quicker service and you can enjoy your beer faster! I ordered two taster sizes of beers and one was poured more than the 4 oz that it said I was going to get - score! I also had the chili corn dog - a must-have in my opinion. I ordered some stuff to-go and wasn't sure how to indicate it on the app, so I asked the staff and they told me to place it and he would go into the kitchen to tell them that the order was to-go. The staff was friendly and appreciative of their clients. This location is within walking distance of Chase Center, UCSF, and Kaiser Mission Bay. As well as public transportation. Walked in on a Friday around 1pm, was greeted by the hostess. Seating was pretty open, so I grabbed a spot at the bar. They just started lunch service this week so definitely worth checking out. Drinks: Beer is served in 3 sizes here a 4oz, 8oz or 16oz pour. There's no official flight offered on the menu but you can build your own by choosing multiple 4oz pours. California Kolch - light, crisp and refreshing, this Kolch had a slight tanginess to it, definitely a nice way to start the flight. Daiso Lager - malty and rounded, with slight buttery note, this was light but flavorful. Aloha Sculpin IPA - a hazy IPA with slight fruity tropical notes, not too hoppy or bitter, was hoping for a bit more tropical fruit but still good Calico Amber - a nice amber ale with balanced maltiness and a slightly hoppy finish, surprisingly refreshing Service was good, bartender was knowledgeable about the beer selection and had great recommendations. Overall nice to see a Ballest Point in the bay area. Nice spot to grab a drink and watch a game on TV, there were multiple dotted throughout the bar and dining area. Very modern and sophisticated vibe; from the loft style space, to the fluorescent lighting - this isn't the type of brewery where you go to not be seen. (Maybe eaze up on the lighting guys..?) The beer is good - and the food will improve - I'm sure .. I say that having the hallmark San Diego ballast as a comparative, where the food was exceptionally good. (I mean wow that octopus?!) Huge brewery with plenty of seats indoor and outdoor in a nice area of SF! The online menu looks small but if you actually order inside they have tons of food and drink to choose from. Plenty of snacks and full on meals! I had the smash burger, and it was so filling and tasty. The meat to bun ratio was perfect since there was a double patty. Just tried their weekend brunch buffet. As I suspected it was pretty much empty when we got there on a Sunday around 10am. There was only 1 other couple dining. The manager, I assumed, welcomed us and explained what was included in the buffet. Said it was $35/pp. They also have bottomless mimosa for an additional charge. There is a lot included in the buffet. I hope it becomes successful here. I know the other Ballast Point locations serve brunch, but not buffet style. My favorite items were the oysters, steamed crab, cocktail shrimp, millionaire's bacon, heirloom tomatoes with burrata and other veggies, juices and the cooked to order omelette. For $35 I think it is a good deal. Didn't get to try the prime rib or ham as we were stuffed. They had local coffee served but I found it to be light. Also some ingredients were not available such as mascarpone for the brioche French toast or goat and Gruyère cheese for the omelettes Still, they have a lot offered for their buffet. I did try calling several times around 9:30 am to confirm if the weekend brunch was still happening and no one answered. I figured they didn't have a lot of staff available. We were all thoroughly impressed by the kitchen here! The food was so good, and ordering for the group was easy through Toast. We got the Korean style chicken wings, Ballast Point hot sauce style chicken wings, fish tacos, burger, pretzel bites, schnitzel, house-made chips with dip (AMAZING CHIPS), and more! The beers were delicious as well. I really enjoyed the Japanese lager and the Kings & Convicts IPA. The location is conveniently located and has lots of seating options which makes it good for large parties and casual gatherings. So you're telling me I don't have to be in SoCal to get some of these amazing brews?! I love this mission bay location which is super spacious inside. We came in a bit later with about an hour and a half left til closing, but we were able to order food and brews. A fave of mine is the sculpin ipa and I tried it hazy tonight. I love the citrus notes and the haze gave it an extra layer of flavor. They had a ton of other flavors too that I'm excited to go back and try. I also ordered the chicken sandwhich which was 10/10. Chicken was super juicy and crispy with a really good sauce inside. Wish they gave more fries but that combined with the sandwhich made me full. It's in a weird location, almost right under the highway and by the train tracks, but it's a beer bar worth looking for! I've been to the San Diego locations several times, and I've always enjoyed their beers, particularly the Sculpin IPA. I came in on a nice weekday afternoon, since Anchor Brewing (now closed) was packed. It was pretty empty, so I grabbed a seat at the bar. I was able to try a few beers before settling on a hazy IPA. It's a decent place to get work done as well. I was able to pull out my laptop and send a few work emails. I think they validate for the adjacent garage, but, I'm not sure about the details. San Diego's famous brewery is finally here!! They have a full service kitchen along with plenty of beer options. The food is super delicious and I was pleasantly surprised with their upscale menu options since most breweries I've been to only serve burgers and fries. Fantastic food that fills quite nicely yet looks irresistible on the plate. I can't believe a brew pub can have this food quality and flavor of deliciousness and have some delicious IPAs under the same roof! The location is a bit restrained with modern, chic interiors. Will this place survive in SF? I hope so! You e got the Chase Center (CC) nearby and better tasting overall than Harmonic Brewery at the CC. I grew up going to the Ballast Point in San Diego, so when I heard they were opening one in San Francisco I was beyond excited! Food was surprisingly good! We got the Fried Chicken Sandwich and Grown Up Grilled Cheese, both were tasty and filling (~$16-17). You order from your phone and the drinks/food came out fast, our server was also attentive with water. The space is large and I'm excited to come back before/after a Giants/ Warriors game. Also got the Thursday happy hour deal which is a beer and six wings for $10. The wings were good, as well as the deviled eggs and pretzel bites. Three stars as the bar staff spent the majority of their time talking to each other rather than attending to patrons; we often had to flag someone down for more beer/food while sitting at the bar. A group of coworkers and I came to Ballast Point on a Thursday evening for happy hour, and I am so glad we did. We had a pretty big party, and we were served all of our food and drinks quickly and definitely were well taken care of. They have some unique beer choices, and I ended up really liking them. The Watermelon double IPA was probably my favorite, although they only give you a half pour (understandable since it's a double IPA). I also really enjoyed the Habanero IPA, I haven't really tried anything like it before and it exceeded my expectations. The Thursday happy hour deal was great- $10 for wings and a beer. Our group took full advantage of the deal and the wings were really good. We also had the bone marrow, and it was incredible. Been here twice, once for their soft opening and then for the grand opening. Both times I've had excellent service! My server was Julian and he was very friendly and knowledgeable about beers and Ballast's history. Since it's only a tasting room it has a somewhat smaller venue compared to their SoCal locations (eg the OG in Miramar) but the beers taste the same because they're brewed in SD! Onto the beers.. I've been able to try the following between my two visit haha. My overall favorites are def the Haze in the Park and Victory at Sea. -Aloha Hazy (7%): nice variation of their sculpin, not bitter at all -Flying embers orange passion mimosa (6.9%): don't normally order kombuchas but this one has a super fruity fragrance and tastes like juice -Watermelon dorado DIPA (10%): dangerous! Just taste like watermelon jolly ranchers -Haze in the Park (6.2%): very solid hazy. Could easily drink 2-3 of these (speaking from personal experience lol) -Victory at Sea (10%): if ya like coffee or vanilla, try this In terms of food they have a lot of different options like bone marrow, fish tacos, short ribs and a burger. But all I wanted was some French fries (eg truffle fries??) to snack on and as of this review they don't have fries as a stand-alone item haha. But I noticed they have fries with their burger or chicken tenders if you order those so that's what I did. Chicken tender and fries were good (be sure to ask for ranch). We tried about 10 different flavors of beer and ordered the truffle fries. We did not like most of the beer flavors and there was no truffle on the fries. When I told the server, the server came back and said the kitchen said they added the truffle and brought me a container of truffle oil -_- which is not the same! You're supposed to lightly toss the oil as soon as the fries come out of the fryer. Not dump cold truffle oil on already cold fries. We had a party of 15 and reserved a table. I can't say enough good things about how great the staff was! Lawrence, mgr, was absolutely fantastic and very accommodating. The bartender and service staff were incredible! They were attentive and consistently checked in on our group. Our party ordered several food items and everything was great! The pretzel bites, cheese curds, fries, were fantastic. The stand out entrees were the smash burger, Cesar chicken salad, chicken sando, shrimp tacos, and flat bread. We ordered several beers and all were great! Interior is huge and great for watching sports events, playing corn hole, or just hanging out. My sister And brother-in-law love brewery's and we're very excited to check this place out. So we crossed the Bay Bridge and went down to Ballast Point SF! It did not disappoint. Because of its location being so close to the Chase Center, street traffic was a bit of a pain if you're not used to it (like me). The inside was very spacious and has plenty of high chair / table seating with booths and some communal seating. Inside there was a mix of folks in suits, folks in scrubs (UCSF is up the street), and just regularly dressed people in the mood for a beer. The food highlight for me were the fish tacos (beer battered). They were fresh, sauce was good, and pretty big! I thought it was a unique twist that they added Jicama "fries" tossed in lime and Tajin powder on the side. Beer was great, I enjoyed the Hazy Sculpin and the case we brought home was of Watermelon Dorado (tastes like candy - you will either love it or hate it - we obviously loved it). Service was good, they are still working out some kinks in their system but all staff was accommodating, knowledgeable, and kind. Overall, not a fan. Ordering all happens on your phone so no real service. I ordered the shrimp tacos and they were lack luster. The shrimp didn't taste like it was seasoned and the tortillas weren't warm. The pretzel bites didn't hit and even the fries that came with the fish and chips were bad. We ordered many things to try, and our favorites are: Roasted Dungeness crab: so fresh and perfectly prepared. The execution level of this dish is truly exceptional - on par with what you otherwise would expect to find at an upscale dining establishment. Ribeye cap steak and eggs: chef Jose told us that the meat is almost as tender as filet mignon (without the price tag). He was absolutely right! I will definitely order this again when we go back. Swedish pancakes with cognac maple syrup, cherry jam and smoked butter - they are more like crepes. Wow.. so good that we polished this off within minutes. Many thanks to chef Jose and Travis (GM) who said that we were the first brunch guests of 2024 and who treated us like royalty. Free coffee refills + friendly service.
