Pfefferschiff requires a bit of a drive outside main Salzburg to what looks like a converted home estate. Once inside, it continues that theme: cozy and homey with fireplaces, low ceilings, and a bit of a cramped nature. Pfefferschiff has the air of an old guard, locals-only restaurant. But our service was outstanding and super accomodating despite our lack of German skills. The menu was highly modern with each plate presented as a work of abstract art. The restaurant is known for serving traditional austrian dishes, some left in their original state but some have a refreshingly modern twist to them. First we were served an amuse-bouche which was very nice, as a main I had the grilled char which was exceptional and I enjoyed every bite. After we ordered dessert we were presented with yet another amuse-bouche (rucola ice cream with chili popcorn, awesome combo, really interesting) and to round it up I indulged in a choclate cake which was wonderfully soft and gooey on the inside served with rosemary ice cream and berries. To be honest I haven't had such a delicious meal in a very long time. Simply wonderful. Staff was very attentive and friendly, prices are definitely higher up there (23 euros for a main) but totally worth it if you have something to celebrate or are just in the mood for a classy dinner.
