I've been wanting to come here for some time and it finally worked in my favor last night! I ordered food to go from here during the covid days when places were shut down and I was so impressed then. It's a family owned establishment which is so nice to see and support. We opted to sit inside to avoid the Florida mugginess. We ordered a large sangria to share. It was on the sweet side but very tasty! We then ordered numerous apps: jerk meatballs, conch fritters, garbanzo beans and plantain fries. We probably should of stopped there but we were told the ox tail pepper pot was a must and my boyfriend was eyeing the curry goat. Everything was favorable and so tasty. This was my first time trying ox tail and it won't be my last. We were all happy that we came and will definitely be back! read more

As a Jamaican, I don't expect five-star service from a Jamaican restaurant, But I do expect decent food and at least one person to act like they work there. We rolled up to Bamboo Fire Cafe, 8pm on a Saturday night and found the waitress/head of front-of-house operations (the only human visible in the entire place) sitting in front of the entrance. Like, blocking it. She looked confused, that anyone would attempt to enter the establishment. Once we were awkwardly allowed inside. we sat. And sat. Fifteen minutes later, we were gifted with two bottled waters and a pair of sticky menus. Another twenty minutes passed before anyone came to take our order. That's 35 minutes into our dining experience, and not a single bite in sight. Completely normal for a Caribbean restaurant. When the "jerk platter" finally arrived, after the Costco meatballs with jerk sauce splashed on them appetizer, it did so with all the warmth and charisma of leftovers. The ribs were refrigerator-level cold--reheated a little but not hot. The rice? Honestly, I can't describe the flavor because it was so bad my brain refused to process it. No kind of rice that resembled any kind of Caribbean rice. The jerk itself wasn't jerk. It was chicken, some mystery pork, and ribs, all cooked as if in the oven and then had jerk sauce put on them. That is not authentic jerk authentic jerk is marinated and slow cooked slow smoked all day for a flavor that goes through the entire meat. This was no smoke, no fire, no soul. The only thing that made it out of that fever dream alive was the plantain--sweet, familiar, comforting. Listen, I know it's family-owned, and I want to support that. I really do. But someone in that family needs to sit the rest of them down and say: "We are not okay." It honestly felt like a prank. We took out dinner tonight and decided on Caribbean. We ordered here because I have been very anxious to eat here but health issues seem to get in the way. Any way we ordered grilled chicken and rice and sweet potato fries for honey and conch fritters and fried conch for me as well as plantains. Everything was delivered nice and warm nothing was missing. My husband enjoyed the rice and put some away for tomorrow and the sweet potato fries were awesome. The grilled chicken was tasty but the portion was a child's size for the cost. The conch fritters I really tried but the batter was nice but after 3 I still didn't find any conch so I tossed the rest. The plantains were awesome! All gone- delicious. I used to live nearby and remember this place being SO delicious. We would go knowing it would be a 45minute wait for food in their tiny limited table cafe. But the food was EXPENSIVE and WORTH IT. I'm no longer a local. Today I was lucky to be around and I ordered delivery today. It's been years and I am so sad. They did not include my lentil soup or notify me to refund the $9 soup. The jerk chicken and rice was very lack luster. The chopped chicken may or may not have been a quarter leg(I think a very thin, tiny quarter leg maybe. It really was a drumstick and a couple chopped bones with little meat. I was surprised they would charge $17 for it. It was worth at the most $10-$11. The mac n cheese was a glorious recipe they made with some type of tortellini pastas. It was creamy and memorable. Tonight I received an overcooked WAY over seasoned jerk chicken Mac and cheese. Last and the most saddening is the jerk meatballs. These were my #1 go to item EVERY TIME. But tonight I can say their jerk meatballs were likely made with a Costco frozen bag of meatballs that you know most coworkers bring to potluck in a slow cooker and sauce/seasonings. That's what I got. These are NOT ground meat homemade meatballs. I guarantee it. It sucks to pay $10 for 8 MINI frozen seasoned meatballs. Located in downtown Delray Beach, Bamboo Fire offers terrific Guyanese cuisine in a small restaurant with outdoor seating. The menu cover blandly describes the cuisine as "Caribbean" and "international," but the owner is Guyanese; thus, I assume the food is closer to Guyanese in style. Having never visited Guyana or tried Guyanese food before, I can't say what at Bamboo Fire is distinctly Guyanese, though common Caribbean fare, such as curries, jerk, plantains, conch, and other seafood dominate. My husband and I ordered the jerk chicken ($15), tofu curry ($13), along with a side of roti ($4). The jerk chicken and tofu curry came with a salad, okra fried rice, and plantains. Our server brought out the salad first, like it was an appetizer rather than a side, followed by our mains. Both dishes, along with the okra fried rice, were wonderfully flavorful and well-spiced. The chicken especially was tender and delicious, while the curry carried heat. I particularly appreciated that the food was not too oily; the roti was not greasy at all. The portions were adequate, and we left feeling more than satiated. By arriving at around 6PM on a Friday, we were able to find street parking two streets away. However, as other Yelp reviewers have noted, street parking is limited, though a parking garage is nearby. This place was soo good and the sit down family style is really nice. All the food was hot and the service and people were friendly. For the appetizers we got the fried plantains, tostadas with a garlic butter sauce, and complimentary jerk meatballs. We got for the entrees was chicken jerk with non-American and American spicy, the curry goat with roti and the peppered oxtail. Each entree came with a salad that was okay. Additionally the meal came with rice for the table. The chicken jerk was so spicy and so flavorful and the plantains were cooked so well. I also got a sangria that's was sweet and tangy. This place was amazing was referred here by a friend, and I didn't know if I should trust his judgment because he's not from Ghana, but once upon arriving, I knew this was the place Donald a very nice gentleman. They were very nice. He welcomed us open the doors a little bit earlier for us, and serve those like if we were royalty, the food was amazing. Overall I would come back to this resturant and try out more dishes. The meatballs were very good, I would of liked it a bit More well done on the outside but it was flavorful with a kick at the end. The plantains were perfect! The conch also delicious and prepared very well. I'm not a fan of okra so the rice threw me off but honestly it was probably the best okra I had comparing between the few times I tried it. But I would of just preferred regular rice and peas. The oxtail was very good. The salad was fine but I didn't get any dressing. The rum cake was strong. It tasted like the cake was made then rum was pour over it not Like the cake was actually made with the rum. As much I love all the energy of Atlantic Ave, it does have its flaws. Hang around long enough and you realize that is not where you'll find the best food. Bamboo is one of a few great options just a few steps from the busy strip. As you would expect, South Florida has an abundance of Caribbean inspired food. There are certainly gems to be found, but Bamboo fire is my go to for island flavor. In true island form, things are done a bit unconventionally here. There is no website, the hours vary, and the vibe is laid back. You get the sense that it's....well...it's island time. Some of the best offerings include conch fritters, plantain fries, oxtail, curry goat, and the okra fried rice. These are personal favorites but to be honest, they can do no wrong. It's all great. I can't recall having better caribbean food anywhere, including the islands. And how can I forget the calypso lemonade, superb! It's been awesome to see the growth over the years! This was my first Time eating in Delray ever and I'm glad I found this place. The food is very comforting, home cooked, and the staff and servers are very hospitable. I am normally a vegetarian but he mentioned lamb chops and I had to taste them, very flavorful and tender. Wow, this place was incredible! My date had the jerk chicken meal with rice and plantains. I had the conch cerviche (conch salad?] And tostones and garlic sauce.. The cerviche was delicious, although it was sweet which was weird at first. The tostones were perfectly cooked, but the garlic sauce was flavorless. I added hot sauce to the garlic sauce and that helped a great deal. My date loved the jerk chicken! Said it was perfectly seasoned and cooked. He said the rice was a meal in itself and very tasty with a little kick. The plantains were sweet and delicious. He also ordered the guava cheesecake. Just came back from having dinner at Bamboo Fire Cafe. . . Went there with my husband and son. Our waitress was the owners daughter- LOVE her!!! She is a sass and without even trying hilarious. Ok, so I was going to order a Stella Artois beer. The owners daughter suggested the Banks beer, said one of her parents was from there. I agreed to try it and was so happy with how refreshing it was. . . Great suggestion! We decided on the oxtail, goat curry and jerk mixed platter. We decided to share family style. For our sides we had sweet potato fries (best we ever had), plantains (only I ate this, again the best I ever had, black beans and rice & okra rice(never heard of this). The food was excellent, not joking my husband said when we got home. . . This was the best meal I have had this year! (We are still in January ) But yes, all 3 of us agreed, the food was great . I was stuffed and normally do not order dessert, but really wanted to try the rum cake. I got it in a to go container because I knew I would not be able to finish it there, but wanted to try it in the restaurant. It was so good, I ate 3/4ths of it in the restaurant. There is some ice cream and a ton of whipped cream on the top. Normally I would not enjoy whipped cream, but this was good. Would I order this again, probably not. But so glad I tried it. I found this place as I was searching on Yelp for a new restaurant to try on the Ave. Located off of the Ave, this restaurant had a really high rating and amazing pics from fellow Yelpers. I decided to give it a try. Walking in the restaurant, I noticed it was small and the dining room wasn't anything special. We sat close to the window and a waitress helped us thoroughly as it was our first time. We went with the meatballs as an appetizer and curry chicken and the oxtail as our main entrees. The jerk meatballs came out. Wasn't spicy, just a hint, but it was a good appetizer. Our main meals came out shortly. The wait wasn't too long. The curry chicken looked amazing. It came with rice but it didn't come with cabbage as other Caribbean restaurants I've been to. I ordered a side of cabbage. Wasn't too thrilled with the cabbage that I got. The curry chicken was good! However, the oxtail took us away. Fatty meat, but the flavor and sauce is what's giving me this restaurant 4 stars. Cooked to perfection. So good, that my date and I ordered one to go. Their price points are also reasonable. About $15-20 for an entree. Parking also seems easy to find as there aren't a lot of restaurants on this street. Ever have that craving for something "unique" and loaded with flavors you haven't experienced before... have I got the hook up for you... Bamboo has you covered. About a year ago I was hoping to discover some of Delray's hidden gems and luckily stumbled upon Bamboo reviews from Patrick and Stephanie. And it really is a hidden gem; located a couple blocks off Atlantic Ave (away from the crowds). Just a simple store front restaurant with very limited seating (they do take reservations though). Walk thru the door, "INHALE" and you know you're in for a treat. The owners and staff are all family (Beverly cooks amazing, husband Donald works the tables and keeps the customers happy, daughter Lauren serves us and keeps us entertained and there are more). They're hail from Guyana but the food draws influences from the entire caribbean region. Rarely do I visit and not have a serving of Grilled Conch to start off; you better love garlic though. Anyone that is a conch eater knows it's hard to find a place that tenderizes it properly (too hard and overly chewy) but not here. I have yet to experience any better (including the Bahamas where it is a specialty). Other Appetizers worth giving a shot: Conch Ceviche (like a tropical version of peruvian ceviche), Gilled Eggplant DIp (surprisingly smokey taste), Tostones with garlic dipping sauce and the Jerk Meatballs. I typically have a "go to" dish at places I frequent often but not here because every time I try something new it becomes my new "go to". The current hot dish for me is the Goat Curry (super tender with a curry sauce but not your typical curry sauce; very different but very memorable. Previous "go to" dish for me has been the Jerk Chicken. Spicy and aromatic. The meat is tender and never dry. Another popular choice is Oxtail (a caribbean delicacy done right). All dishes include a tropical dinner salad (pieces of mango and tomatoes with tropical vinaigrette), fried rice and sweet plantains. Now if you really want to kick the diet to the curb and treat yourself to something that looks unreal... order any of the Mac and Cheese dishes (available with lobster, shrimp, crab, fish, chicken or pork). I haven't tried them yet but on our last visit we brought along a group a foodies and watching them all dine on these "not so ordinary" mac and cheese dishes has got me realizing I'm missing out. My boyfriend recommended this place for us to go on a double date. I had some hesitation because I had never heard of it. I didn't want to be embarrassed bringing another couple there. Immediately they made us feel very welcome and brought out some complimentary jerk meatballs. They were packed with a lot of flavor and not too spicy. I never had grilled conch before but was glad we got it as a starter. Next we had a starter salad with pieces of mango and strawberry which come with all the dinners. I had the curry chicken with roti. The curry sauce and the roti were so good but my chicken was a little dry. My better half had the jerk chicken which had amazing seasoning and sauce. My friends ordered Basa fish wrapped in banana leaves and ox tail. The ox tail was the winner of the night. It had this delicious caribbean seasoning that reminded me of my mothers cooking. The walls are decorated so cute. It has colorful art and metal panels on the wall. It really feels like you are visiting the islands. Just make sure to make reservations because it's small and only have a few tables. I normally avoid Atlantic Avenue area because it tends to be overpriced but Bamboo Fire Cafe is not expensive and the food is really good. Our friends Glenn G. and Marisol F. have been telling us about Bamboo Fire for a while now. With all the great things they had to say we were all looking forward to try it. Saturday night we joined them and a few other friends for what was an amazingly delicious dinner. This is a family owned restaurant with amazing Caribbean food. The father and daughter welcome guests and take orders, while the mother, and (I think the son) cook in the back. Everything is made to order and fresh - we could hear them "hammering" the conch in the back every time someone ordered it. Now, keep this in mind, since food did take longer to come out than at a regular restaurant, but for that reason and the flavor, it is well worth the wait. Everyone that had been to Bamboo before recommended the grilled conch. They said it was garlicky but, since I'm not a garlic fan, I decided not to order it. I did try a piece though and, even with the garlic taste, this was definitely one of the best things I had all night. Now I understand why they were insisting on us trying it. I also tried the Conch Fritters, good, but still would go with the grilled one. The other thing I would recommend having are the Tostones (green fried plantains). These I will dare compare to the ones my grandmother makes so you know they are great, and a must have... The Tostones come with a garlic dipping sauce but, if you want something even better, order the eggplant spread appetizer and top the Tostones with that. You will love it. I ordered the Crab Mac & Cheese (just look at picture, I bet you'll want one). This was absolutely delicious! Crisp cheesy top, perfectly melted cheese and creamy inside, loaded with crab meat, and enough for two. The rich flavor of the crab and the comforting feeling you get from the Mac & Cheese is a fantastic combination. They also served "family style" salad (loved the vinaigrette they made for it), fried ripe plantains, and rice for the table to share. The plantains was another thing that brought me back to my grandmother's kitchen. Plantains have been a staple in our house for years, and it always makes me happy when I find a place that makes them fresh, sweet and just like I'm used to having them back in PR. Table of 9 and everyone was really happy with everything we ordered. Also, very pleased with service. They all came to the table to make sure we liked what we ordered, apologized for when something took longer than it should, and sincerely invited us to visit them again. Bamboo Fire Cafe is a Five Star "get authentic homemade Caribbean food" gem that is unlike any of the overpriced, over-hyped, pompous, sterile restaurants on Atlantic Avenue. This is a husband and wife run team that personally greets every customer that is lucky enough to grab one of their limited tables. They are located on 4th Avenue a few blocks North of Atlantic Avenue in a quiet section of town with limited parking. There are only five or so tables inside (perhaps 20 people can sit inside) the super small restaurant and they can fit another 12 or more people in the outdoor seating. There are very limited dining hours (closed Sun-Mon-Tue) and only open for dinner (after 6pm) on four nights as this is a family run business and the owners actually have day jobs in Miami. I started with a glass of their homemade calypso lemonade and it was unlike any lemonade I have ever tasted. It was super tasty as there was a secret ingredient added that I still can't figure out what it was (some additional sweet vanilla like nectar). They only serve beer and wine as they don't have a full liquor license (bummer), but there is an option. Now on to my super secret advice (well this is a public website, so I guess it won't be secret for long). Ask to meet Beverly, the owner, and chef. It should not be too hard as it will be either her or her husband walking around taking orders. Tell her that you really would like to try some of her personal collection special 12 year old reserve RUM in your drink as that would just make your day. Fortunately, they have a bottle stashed for just these special requests, but they can't charge you for it as it can only be given for FREE to their friends. Ah, that definitely hit the spot. I had the appetizer of grilled conch (not the fried fritters) and it was fire grilled and placed on a plate of capers with garlic and butter sauce. One word = Yummy. Do not order the fritters as the grilled conch is much fresher and tastier. I sampled two dinner items - the cracked conch (fresh conch lightly battered and flash fried) and the pulled pork on roti flatbread. Both were home made meals cooked to order, the conch was so tender and tasty with a light crunch and the pulled pork was just as you would expect - nice jerk kick that melts in your mouth. The roti flatbread was homemade Indian style flatbread that reminded me of a Krispy Cream doughnut and I actually wanted to order a plate of these as they are like super tasty tortillia like shells. For desert, I had to try the Rum Cake (duh!) as I already sampled the drink via the super secret stash and the desert was a knock out....literally. The cake was very good with a large portion of whipped cream and ice cream on top, but the real star was the incredible amount of rum that was soaked up by the cake. Don't eat the rum cake all by yourself and then try to drive home, as you will probably be over the legal driving limit. Take some time and relax, walk the avenue, and then drive home in an hour or so when you sober up. After dinner, Beverly asked how everything was as she treats everyone like family and I told her everything was incredible. My only suggestion to her and anyone reading this review is to offer the RUM cake as an appetizer (minus the whip cream and ice cream) as this would be a great way to start the meal to loosen up the pallet and zap a few brain cells. Words are not enough. Appears to be family owned. Carriers flavor cuisine. Every single thing we ate was authentic and absolutely delicious. They've een there for more than a decade... 14 years I think. Made fresh to order Meatballs.. not your std Italian meatballs at all.. GREAT. Tostones..GREAT. Conch... devine Rice and peas... omg.. BEST I've had. Jerk platter.... so good we took every last morsel home. Good selection of bottled beer from various islands. Service very personable. Indoor and outdoor eating. I recently had the wonderful opportunity to visit Bamboo Fire Cafe on Sunday!! Once again the group I was with, were served amazing, amazing dishes not on the menu. Okra and kale in chickpea batter, scallop and shrimp cake, curried duck, chicken fried alligator, long bean fried rice, jerk meatballs and salad and rum cake and special house LEMONADE!! Where do I even start- been coming to bamboo fire for years, Donald and beverly have been actively feeding my jerk chicken addition and need to be held responsible! You can't go wrong with anything in the menu but I of course love the jerk chicken, curry goat, basa, and anything conch that they serve. Best Caribbean place ever! I loved all the plates I tried tonight. It was raining so we couldn't have the whole outside ambiance, but the food itself was worth it. We had tostones with jerk pork as an appetizer and sangria, both exceptional. The tostones were definitely home made, and I mean smashed to order. For entrees we had fried whole snapper, chicken curry with roti, and jerk pork. One of the sides was ocra rice... my friends this place is legit the best ever! It was amazing.
