This is not a review of the food. We came here on a whim. Never had Jamaican food before. It turns out I am not a fan and have no urge to return. I ordered from here last night because they averaged a 4.8 on UberEats. I ordered a steam fish with Cabbage and boiled yuca. First, the food arrived cold; not refrigerator-cold, but cold like it had been out for a while. Typically the "gravy" steam fish is in is see-through, but this was opaque. Although it's not a familiar look, it doesn't smell bad so I start to eat it. I end up tasting something bitter and stop, thinking it was the red pepper. I taste a piece without the pepper and it tastes fine. So I continue to eat. The cabbage was disgusting and the yuca wasn't cooked all the way through, so I just focused on the fish. I get to the a piece near the bone and the entire piece of fish tastes bitter. This is when I realize the fish is spoiled. I go back to watching my show and about 15 minutes later I start to feel lightheaded, then cold sweat takes my skin and I start to feel nauseous. My belly is hurting and I sit in the bathroom while leaning over a bucket. DO NOT EAT HERE! I'm not sure how something like this could have happened, but I was overlooking so many red flags that were clues to this restaurants integrity in regards to food quality. They are obviously letting the food sit out at room temp for 4+ hours, because how else would you explain something that is made to order arriving lukewarm? Maybe they've had a fallout with the chef and trying to buy their time. Idk, but I am shocked that a Jamaican restaurant with such a high rank is practicing poor food management in a way that is risking people's lives. read more

Great intimate warm ambiance with a feel of traditional home cooked meals. The service was nothing short of excellence. Our waiter was very patient as we vascillated between our entree sides. Two sides for the entrees were very filling. We took the left overs to go home. She was very kind and great with my children. The music playing provided comfort tunes appropriate for any age. I ordered the Brown Stew Chicken and I have to say this was the best (other than my mom's Chicken and dumplings), tender, boneless, flavorful chicken I have ever enjoyed. The Brown Stew Chicken came with two sides, I chose Peas and Rice with Cabbage and Carrots. The Peas and Rice were light and fluffy, soaking up some of the rich brown sauce with every bite. I've been making this my annual thing for over four years now. Being a Jamaican who moved down from NY it's hard to find a Jamaican restaurant with a white tablecloth service. They are authentic in flavor and service also. I always have to have the Jerk French fries, the Ackiee and plantain appetizer. I've enjoyed the peppered shrimp wheel hot zeen. I tend to wash that down with a cold Dragon . I've enjoyed the Curry Goat , Brownstew Chicken . From the sea the curry shrimp dish was wonderful it's plated lovely. Remember we eat with our eyes . I've enjoyed the Shrimp Rundown as well ‼The Fish sandwich was excellent also. I really enjoyed reading the menu it has a true flair and the play on Jamaican patios To entice and easy you into our warm and captivating dialogue is genius . Their regulars have had their families grow up before their eyes. It was my girlfriend's pick for us to meet up here and as she said, "now we know why you've received all those good reviews"... Rocksteady is located on the very southern end. Parking is at a premium due to the other restaurants here, as well. You may wish to come early. My girlfriend got to try Ting -- the grapefruit flavored soda -- for her first time. I tried their house lemonade. They also have ginger beer (soda), and iced teas as well as alcoholic drinks. From their lunch menu, we each chose one of their platters. I had their brown stewed chicken with rice and peas and plantains. The chicken was cut into bite sized tender pieces. The brown gravy was flavorful. And the sweet plantains were cooked perfectly. Yum. My girlfriend got their jerked chicken with rice and peas and salad. They served the jerk sauce on the side -- in case it was too spicy for her. She liked her chicken and did add a few drops of the sauce. The salad came with her choice of balsamic or ranch dressing. She also really liked her food. We both took a portion home for a later meal. I ordered some coco bread to go before we left so she could try some of it. The bread is made with coconut milk so is slightly sweet. It was one large soft piece served warm and oh so good. I later ate the rest at home with various things added to give it different tastes. If you love Jamaican food or are looking to try some for the first time, this restaurant would be the place to come. So happy to give a 5 star review to Rocksteady! Us "rookies" had a great overall experience at this local restaurant. We arrived early which was good as the parking filled up in the strip center. We were greeted and seated right away in a comfortable booth. I looked around and immediately enjoyed the atmosphere. Our sweet server came over for drink orders. I tried a new beverage "Ting" a very nice grapefruit soda . After reading other reviews and having looked over the menu ahead of time i knew exactly what i was ordering. Jamaican food can be very spicy but i like a little heat so it was the Jerk Chicken Platter w Pigeon peas and rice and the house salad! My friend Julie ordered the Stewed chicken which was considered a little less spicy! Both dishes were amazing! My dish came with a side of jerk sauce which i used very carefully. The chicken was grilled perfect and had a wonderful flavor. Julie's stewed chicken had amazing exotic flavor cooked in a brown sauce. Our server brought me a small side of that wonderful sauce to sample with my meal. The rice and pigeon peas were cooked wonderfully and the salad was cold and crisp. All in all, the experience was excellent including the prices for this authentic taste. We were told local families have visited and grown up in this restaurant over the past 12 years! I went this past Saturday at 12:30pm and place was empty. Not 1 customer in the place. Hostess trying to rush me to sit. She puts me in a corner seat with a menu. I am vegetarian & looked at menu before I went. There are 2 vegetarian options on the entire menu besides the sides. Chef's Own Veggie Sandwich & Bob's Veggie Burger. Chef's Own has eggplant, peppers, avocado, lettuce & capers and looked delicious looking at it at home. I told her I wanted the Chef's Own Veggie Sandwich . She rudely told me that is only Monday thru friday lunch special. I was like....maybe you should put that on the menu so customers know that. Unfortunately I felt odd to leave & stayed for the only other vegetarian item on the menu... Bob's Veggie Burger. It was ok, definitely not something I would order. I would have preferred a Black Bean Veggie Burger. Will I return.... probably not. If the hostess didn't make me feel so uncomfortable I would consider it. It was around lunchtime when I was just about finished with my manicure and asked for a recommendation to grab a bite. Everyone agreed, Rocksteady Jamaican Bistro was the place to go. I parked out front in one of the few parking spaces and entered the small restaurant. I took a seat at my choosing as I was instructed to do and ordered a glass of wine. Browsing the menu, feeling pretty certain I was going to enjoy my meal, I settled on the jerk salmon with rice and peas, plantains and vegetables. But, instead of the vegetables, I chose to get a fresh salad. My meal paired well with the house chardonnay. I started on my salad since it came out first but saved some of it to go with my meal. I love what the combination of the fresh leaves and warm food does to my palate. The salmon was cooked really well, very tasty, with the perfect texture - juicy, soft in my mouth, not dry and overcooked. The rice was good too, with its perfect balance of coconut milk added to it. (It's a traditional way to prepare rice and peas in the Caribbean). The plantains, a very delicate food to fry, they can be off it cooked when they're not ready. They were sweet and just right, always a great addition to a plate like the one I had. Overall, I had a great meal at a good price. I'm definitely looking forward to visiting again soon. read more

The atmosphere was cozy and charming; the staff was very friendly and personable. I ordered the curry chicken, rice and peas, and jerk fries. The food was brought out relatively fast and was delicious. Honestly, I had to resist the urge to pig out - the menu items all sounded so good. I really wanted to order the rum cake for dessert, but they were out (which I teased our server playfully about), so I ordered the bread pudding instead. The bread pudding was warm and sweet. I can definitely see myself ordering from or visiting again. I starved myself all day until we got here to eat - and it was definitely worth it! I find that the Jamaican restaurants usually disappoint in authentic flavor. But not Rocksteady the flavors were not only authentic but elevated. Not only did I love the food, but almost equally as impressive as we sat to eat was the familiarity with the community. It was tamer than a Ziggy Marley music video. The food has good flavor, but no real heat. It's rote, no joy or passion. They're open like a bank. Four hours. Used to be two locations, now one. This was not the one to keep, either, though, with tat cursed building with an its bad drains makin' the constant methane smell. It hits your nose like a stinkin' brick when you walk in. Hard to eat that way. I had the curry shrimp and scallops. It was very greasy, and just ok. Not many in there for the $32 bill. The scallops were tough. The shrimp was small, all four. The jerk chicken is boneless, but a bit dry. The jerk salmon was excellent. The brown chicken was overcooked. Service was excellent! They serve beer and wine. I haven't been for a while, and I am good with that. Relative to Bamboo Fire, the Caribbean Acme of the area, the food here is very so-so. Alright, I definitely wasn't expecting to leave feeling this satisfied! This was a unique experience because first of all, Jamaican in Boca just sounds weird. And growing up going to Jamaican restaurants, the most common types I'd go to were always bistro style, nothing fancy, you would just go up to the counter to the mean lady behind it, order your beef patty or oxtail, rice and peas, maybe choose from the many pastries, then be on your way. Jamaican dining isn't luxury...it's quick, hearty, saucy, flavorful food served in a styrofoam box. But now, here comes Rocksteady..... Being in Boca, I definitely expected a touch of elegance. This place does it just right, where it's nice enough for Boca but still humble enough for a true Jamaican feel. Speaking of feel, it wouldn't have surprised me if I walked in and was greeted by a perky FAU sorority girl telling me all about how good their jerk and brown stew chicken is. Like I said, Jamaican in Boca is weird. But that's not what happened, because on the contrary, I was greeted by two women with lovely Jamaican accents and just the right amount of smile on their faces (not too much, not too little). The menu impressed me a ton because it presented alot of firsts to me, as they strive to merge classic Jamaican cuisine with American elements. A prime example being the 'brown stew, curry or jerk chicken spinach wrap.' When have you ever seen wraps at a Jamaican restaurant?! And don't get me started on all the unique "jerk" options: jerk chicken sandwich, jerk burger, jerk tacos, jerk bacon, jerk fries, what?! I am one that has absolutely no problem with fusion cuisine, and I was thoroughly impressed with what they had to offer. Best of all, my jerk spinach wrap was excellent!
