Dishes include okra and meat stew, Militoj (chayote) and meat stew, bouillon soup which has pumpkin and other vegetables and meat, Lalo which is a green vegetable almost like a spinach (called Jews mallow in Egypt and common there and in the Middle East), Haitian style spaghetti which has cut up hot dogs in a tomato sauce, maya moulin which is a corn salad stew, oxtail, fried fish which is usually a whole fried snapper, griot which is fried pork, fried chicken, fried turkey, beef, goat and chicken wings. For sides they have salad, fried green banana, macaroni salad, black beans, rice and beans, white rice, black bean sauce (which is delicious Haitian style, usually contains some cloves or allspice and puréed into a thick black bean sauce), noir sos or white bean sauce, and pento sos or pinto beans. I received a huge plate of white rice, to stones, salad and pickliz and a cup of pinto bean soup. The pinto beans were delicious and hot, rice steaming hot and very good, pickliz super hot and delicious ! Better than most pickliz I've had, fresh and super spicy with habanero or scotch bonnet, I can tell it was freshly made. One of the best Haitian restaurants I've been to in south Florida and I'll return to try out more things.

The first thing I noticed wrong was the bread. It was flat and hard like a cracker. Not soft like I had expected and it was more stale than anything. Not like a pressed Cuban sandwich either, just flat and hard and impossible to eat. I asked for extra chimichurri and I didn't get it but no big deal. I decided to just eat the steak and peppers off of the sandwich instead. The steak was cooked perfectly but it lacked flavor. It was ok I ate it and added a little salt but nothing great. The poppers were ok. Not really spicy and a bit greasy. They have a large and quite varied menu. They describe their menu as Cuban based, but it's so much more than that. For example, they have 6 different snapper entrees as well as grouper, salmon, tuna, scampi, shrimp and mixed seafood dishes. Our friends each thoroughly enjoyed their coconut grouper, which was accompanied by a side of rice and grilled veggies. The fish was fresh and delicious. One person had the conch chowder, which was hearty and a bit spicy. It was delightful and filling. Enigma also offers steaks, chicken, paellas, and pasta dishes. (I wasn't kidding when I said their menu was eclectic). My husband and I shared the chicken parmesan with pasta and the vodka penne with chicken. Both dishes were excellent. The chicken was tender and the sauces were both very good. I thoroughly enjoyed the vodka sauce on the penne pasta. The dinners all came with a side salad that had a nice mix of ingredients and an Italian dressing. We split a carafe of Enigma's specialty red sangria. No wonder it's so popular. Both fruity and flavorful. The husband and wife team that run the restaurant are very nice. She runs the front-of-house and he is the chef. On this visit, I ordered the classic snapper broiled and substituted potatoes for the rice. As expected, the portion was quite generous. I actually preferred this broiled preparation over the grilled version I had previously; it seemed to use less oil but was perfectly seasoned. The potatoes were flavorful and well-cooked, and while the sautéed vegetables were fairly basic, they rounded out the plate well. My snapper came with an island sauce on the side, but the fish was flavorful enough on its own that I skipped it to keep the meal a bit healthier. I also sampled my grandpa's order, the Snapper Florentine special. It was very good, featuring a bright lemony sauce and a rich spinach-and-cheese stuffing. While the stuffing meant there was slightly less fish than the standard entree, the portion was still substantial. That being said, I have hesitations regarding the quality of the fish and oils used here. Even though it's a "light" meal, my stomach occasionally feels a little off afterward, so it may not quite meet the highest quality standards. I think this might be a new business so stop in and add more reviews!
