So... occasionally I get that itch--you know, the sweet Vietnamese chè kind. A sprinkle of pomegranate seeds, a little pandan jelly, a generous pour of coconut milk... heavenly. Anyway, I ordered #2 and #10 last night, and instead of that glorious dessert symphony, I basically got... beans. Yellow beans, red beans, white beans--Noah's Ark of legumes. The rest? Tapioca--green string, red cube, and some black balls--and then a mountain of shaved ice. Like, half the large cup was basically the iceberg that sank my expectations. Barely enough coconut milk to sink the iceberg (and my disappoinment) to make it past customs. Nineteen dollars (plus tip!) for two large chè and a whole lot of disappointment (and still itching, i mean craving this am, enough to write this junk poetry). What happened?! Did chè evolve? Did inflation hit the jelly aisle? Or did someone in the kitchen just decide last night was Bean Appreciation Day?

I remember trying Bambu when they used to have a location in Dallas. It has long since closed so it's been awhile since I've had their che. I tried my aunt's order, the taro lover, which included taro, pandan jelly, and coconut milk. It was pretty good and refreshing. She recommended that I get the smashed avocado to go. It's packed with boba, coffee jelly, and condensed milk. It was also pretty good but very rich and dense, I couldn't finish it on my own. Definitely share this with some one.

Bambu is overpriced and such a rip-off. Two different cup sizes, with a large cup of drink--added tax--costing $$$10 plus tip! Yesterday, I ordered a basil seed drink with young coconut and longan fruit. I won't be coming back here for a while to contribute my $ to this greedy owner. There are soo many different choices to enjoy on Bellaire Blvd such as Long Cafe and buba teas.

Accidentally dropped in here because I wasn't paying attention (was supposed to try another tea place in the parking lot) but they served a great almond milk boba so it was a win. They have a number of dessert options in addition to a bevy of teas. This is a pretty spacious place so good for groups and families.

I looooove Bambu. It is the highlight of my visits to the bay area, and if I'm lucky I'll get through there a couple of times during a work week, so I was jazzed to see one here in Houston. Even though I was stuffed from the Vietnamese food buffet next-door, this was a necessary stop. Bambu is special because of the Che' - there's a lot of fruit drinks, milk teas, and Boba drinks all over the place, but not so many of the more dessert type treats. Young coconut? Basil seeds? Mixed jelly? Yes please. Clean establishment; efficient service.

Came here for dessert on a Thursday night with my mother who absolutely loves this place! We got the Mangonada shaved ice and it was delicious! It is a bit pricey at about $10 for the dish, but it's also HUGE. Can definitely satisfy 3 people. The two of us had a hard time finishing it... The service was great and fast. It's counter service. You order there, get your number, and then pick it up when they call your number. The interior is nice. Lots of seating. They have outdoor tables too, which we took advantage of :) I have my eye on the Berrylicious one for next time!

    Smashed Avocado Chè

I've been here twice. Once on a weekday after lunch at Duy Sandwiches and the other time on a Saturday. Both times there was a steady stream of people ordering. The vibe was really chill with people sitting indoors and outdoors. The menu is easy to navigate and the staff is helpful if you have any questions. I ordered a Jasmine Mango Tea and the Smashed Avocado Chè the first time and only the Smashed Avocado Chè the second time. The Jasmine Mango Tea was really good, refreshing and not as sweet as I thought it would be, which is great to me. The Smashed Avocado Chè is exceptional! I enjoyed this chè so much. It is not too sweet but it tastes just right. I'm not a huge fan of boba itself but when combined with the jelly, avocado and ice, everything blends well and makes for a very balanced dessert. I'll be back for the ca phê sữa đá and salted caramel coffee soon and some of the other teas and chè at some point in the future. Bambu is a solid choice for chè, in a great location in a wonderful community. Try it out as soon as possible!

Craving for pandan jelly and Bambu to the rescue! Ordered #10 with red tapioca, pandan jelly and coconut milk (less ice). I wish they gave more pandan jelly than red tapioca. It was pretty sweet but then it's a dessert! Plenty of Vietnamese drinks and you can find one you like!

The service here is fairly quick for the amount of people that are here. It is always packed but the wait time is no more than 10 minutes. We will always order the strawberry and mango shaved ice with 2 scoops of matcha ice cream. The fruit is fresh (there's crates and crates of mangoes in the hallway). Sometimes the strawberries are a bit sour since they aren't in season, but the condensed milk helps balance it out. The matcha ice cream here is sooooooo good. This combination will hit every single time. 100/10 We did try their flan and we werent the biggest fans. Not sure if their flan is different than mexican traditional flan, but theirs seemed to be grainy and the flavor profile was off. We wouldn't order this again, but try it for yourself! They have a self-service kiosk at the front where you can place your order, or you can order directly with the cashier. Since we had a large group, we ordered several desserts to share. When our name was called, we went to pick up our order, but only about a third of the items were on the counter. We asked if it was our complete order since we were still missing several items. Unfortunately, the employee responded with a rude attitude and simply told us they would call our name again. Despite that interaction, I enjoyed the desserts, especially the fresh fruit, which tasted high-quality and refreshing. The food itself was good, but the customer service could definitely be improved.

One team member kindly explained the drinks I was curious about and even gave me a recommendation, which I really appreciated--and it was spot on! I went with the Hawaii Sunset fruit tea at 50% sugar. Just a heads-up: their fruit teas lean more on the fruit-forward side than actual tea, and mine was definitely on the sweeter end of the spectrum--likely from the syrup in the mango popping boba. Even at half sugar, it was pretty sweet. I also noticed a couple of things that could've made the drink better: some lemon seeds were left in, and the smaller bits of mango weren't fully ripe, which made the texture a bit off. That said, the staff's kindness and the wide variety of drinks make me want to come back and try other options! I'm especially interested in their Saigon street food menu and those adorable kitty paw-shaped mochi waffles. The shop itself is small with limited seating, so I'd recommend grabbing your drinks to-go unless you're staying for a bite. Bonus points for being located in a shopping plaza with plenty of parking--no stress finding a spot!

Ordered the multi waffle which comes with taro, pandan, and durian flavors delightfully swirled and is stuffed with yummy coconut chunks. Freshly made, it came out hot & crispy on the outside & chewy on the inside. It was scrumptious! I would return for the waffles alone, although next time I will probably order just the pandan as this was my favorite flavor. The OG Mia was especially refreshing after a proper bowl of pho. The tartness of the kumquat balanced the sweetness of the freshly juiced sugarcane. I would highly recommend this place if you're looking for a sweet treat in the area!

She even had her staff take it off the shelf right away so no one else would pick it up. That kind of transparency is rare and we really appreciated it. The drinks took a while to come out but they make everything fresh so it was worth the wait. While we waited we checked out their crane machines and played a round. Mama Mia Special (L $9.75): Wow, this was a huge cup packed with fruit. I loved the coconut meat, jelly, and strawberry. The mango bits were not quite ripe so they were a bit sour but everything else made up for it. Matcha Mia (L $8): Yum, delicious and easy to drink. I actually liked this one more than the special since it combines sugarcane and coconut juice and just works really well together. Multi Flavor Waffle ($5.75): Comes with three flavors, pandan, durian, and taro. It was so good. I loved the pandan the most. I am not usually a fan of durian but I tried it and you can really taste it in there. The taro was the most subtle but still really good.

Portions are large/filling and we felt the food was delicious and a good value for money. When we arrived the line was long and menus were not available so we had to search for the menu on the website to avoid deciding at the counter and holding up the people behind us. After ordering, tables were cleaned consistently and service was friendly. Only feedback about seating was outside parties would take chairs from other tables and leave them with no seating and not all tables we're shaded. The drinks being available at the bar when it is busy and then food being delivered to the table was a bit clunky. I picked up water and utensils for our party before sitting and would have preferred to have to pick everything up at the counter or have everything brought to the table to avoid multiple trips around when the restaurant is busy.
