So... occasionally I get that itch--you know, the sweet Vietnamese chè kind. A sprinkle of pomegranate seeds, a little pandan jelly, a generous pour of coconut milk... heavenly. Anyway, I ordered #2 and #10 last night, and instead of that glorious dessert symphony, I basically got... beans. Yellow beans, red beans, white beans--Noah's Ark of legumes. The rest? Tapioca--green string, red cube, and some black balls--and then a mountain of shaved ice. Like, half the large cup was basically the iceberg that sank my expectations. Barely enough coconut milk to sink the iceberg (and my disappoinment) to make it past customs. Nineteen dollars (plus tip!) for two large chè and a whole lot of disappointment (and still itching, i mean craving this am, enough to write this junk poetry). What happened?! Did chè evolve? Did inflation hit the jelly aisle? Or did someone in the kitchen just decide last night was Bean Appreciation Day?

I remember trying Bambu when they used to have a location in Dallas. It has long since closed so it's been awhile since I've had their che. I tried my aunt's order, the taro lover, which included taro, pandan jelly, and coconut milk. It was pretty good and refreshing. She recommended that I get the smashed avocado to go. It's packed with boba, coffee jelly, and condensed milk. It was also pretty good but very rich and dense, I couldn't finish it on my own. Definitely share this with some one.

$10 over-priced basil seed coconut and longan drink

Bambu is overpriced and such a rip-off. Two different cup sizes, with a large cup of drink--added tax--costing $$$10 plus tip! Yesterday, I ordered a basil seed drink with young coconut and longan fruit. I won't be coming back here for a while to contribute my $ to this greedy owner. There are soo many different choices to enjoy on Bellaire Blvd such as Long Cafe and buba teas.

Accidentally dropped in here because I wasn't paying attention (was supposed to try another tea place in the parking lot) but they served a great almond milk boba so it was a win. They have a number of dessert options in addition to a bevy of teas. This is a pretty spacious place so good for groups and families.

I looooove Bambu. It is the highlight of my visits to the bay area, and if I'm lucky I'll get through there a couple of times during a work week, so I was jazzed to see one here in Houston. Even though I was stuffed from the Vietnamese food buffet next-door, this was a necessary stop. Bambu is special because of the Che' - there's a lot of fruit drinks, milk teas, and Boba drinks all over the place, but not so many of the more dessert type treats. Young coconut? Basil seeds? Mixed jelly? Yes please. Clean establishment; efficient service.

Came here for dessert on a Thursday night with my mother who absolutely loves this place! We got the Mangonada shaved ice and it was delicious! It is a bit pricey at about $10 for the dish, but it's also HUGE. Can definitely satisfy 3 people. The two of us had a hard time finishing it... The service was great and fast. It's counter service. You order there, get your number, and then pick it up when they call your number. The interior is nice. Lots of seating. They have outdoor tables too, which we took advantage of :) I have my eye on the Berrylicious one for next time!

    Smashed Avocado Chè

I've been here twice. Once on a weekday after lunch at Duy Sandwiches and the other time on a Saturday. Both times there was a steady stream of people ordering. The vibe was really chill with people sitting indoors and outdoors. The menu is easy to navigate and the staff is helpful if you have any questions. I ordered a Jasmine Mango Tea and the Smashed Avocado Chè the first time and only the Smashed Avocado Chè the second time. The Jasmine Mango Tea was really good, refreshing and not as sweet as I thought it would be, which is great to me. The Smashed Avocado Chè is exceptional! I enjoyed this chè so much. It is not too sweet but it tastes just right. I'm not a huge fan of boba itself but when combined with the jelly, avocado and ice, everything blends well and makes for a very balanced dessert. I'll be back for the ca phê sữa đá and salted caramel coffee soon and some of the other teas and chè at some point in the future. Bambu is a solid choice for chè, in a great location in a wonderful community. Try it out as soon as possible!

Craving for pandan jelly and Bambu to the rescue! Ordered #10 with red tapioca, pandan jelly and coconut milk (less ice). I wish they gave more pandan jelly than red tapioca. It was pretty sweet but then it's a dessert! Plenty of Vietnamese drinks and you can find one you like!

Cafe 101 serve Japanese and Chinese food. There are table and booths inside as well as a full bar. We started with a couple of sushi specials... bluefin toro and Uni. Thought the bluefin toro were fresh as well as the Uni. Wasn't expecting so was pleasantly surprised. For our mains, we ordered the twice cooked pork and beef galbi. Both came as a set... with rice, side dish of pickled radish and carrots and dessert. Price-wise, it was reasonable considering it came as a set. Twice cooked pork hits the spot. It was plenty and had some to go. Galbi was decent... it's not like Korean Galbi. It was pretty saucy, sweet and tender. It was decent portion as well. Think we found our new late night spot! The lounge like ambiance, along with their diner-like menu, is a major selling point for folks and has been one of the reasons for their popularity over the better part of the last two decades. It is a bit trendy and plays music that you would think of and in a Miami lounge or a pretentious New York Club. While service is not their strong suit, the clean bathrooms, spacious seating, and semi-open kitchen makes up for some 'tudes from the staff. The menu is most definitely Asian, but blends from a predominantly Chinese menu and featuring various Taiwanese, Korean, Japanese items. The latter includes sushi, which is likely one of the only spots in the neighborhood that still has it after midnight. They have bluefin tuna and sea urchin, in which Cafe 101 is one of the only late night spots to offer it. Their beef chow fun is nice and greasy, but filled with excessive onions, bean sprouts, and various other veggies that almost take away from the noodles and beef (which was nicely cooked). Their shrimp and egg came in a nice set, which was a good surprise and surprisingly well executed. This is also a spot for Japanese curry, and even though it's not the best, it most certainly does the job. Taiwanese popcorn chicken is on point, cumin lamb is unsurprisingly spicy, and Singapore chow mai fun has a tinge of solid wok hei. (#1) I'm genuinely not a fan of their soups and think the sushi rolls are not their best work. While they also have milk, tea options, unless one is desperate, I would also steer clear of. Parking in the early evening can be an issue at Don Huang Plaza, but after 11pm, the parking options should be abundant. I would consider coming here in a larger group, especially with late night owls. ___________ (#1) Wok's essence (鑊氣)

Luckily there wasn't a line. I picked up a green tea passion fruit tea and was surprised how tasty it was! The drink was a pretty yellow hue with passion fruit seeds at the top. You can order at the kiosk or at the cashier. For sweetness customization, they only have full level, less sweet, and no sugar options. The less sweet is already plenty sweet for me, so wish there was a slightly less sweet option than that. The service was polite and friendly, and the inside was clean with several tables. Besides the great taste, I really appreciate the "no artificial stuff" way of doing things. After one drink I'm Chicha San Chen fan! Be sure to stop by sometime and try their tea :D
