Our Strawberry Cheesecake Snow Ice looked nothing like the picture on the menu. If you're out of ingredients or don't have all the ingredients to make something, let your customers know. We were missing all of our toppings - how can you serve a strawberry cheesecake without the graham crackers?! We paid full price for a large strawberry cheesecake with all the toppings and just got a pile of snow ice and cut up strawberries tossed on the side. What's really disappointing is the fact that we were handed this without any apologies for not having all the toppings that it comes with or getting some type of compensation to make up for it. So me and some friends went to have Dim Sum at Ocean Palace and we wanted some dessert. A friend suggested that we go to Bambu and I've always wanted to try this place anyway. So we went inside the mall, but for whatever reason, that one location was closed. So we hopped in the car and took the drive to this location. There was a line and only one cashier. But the line moved quickly. That was a good sign. I didn't know what I wanted because everything in the pictures looked good to me. So when my turn came, I just asked the cashier what's good. She asked if I wanted tea or dessert. I told her I wanted dessert and she suggested #1, #2, and #6. That's the Bambu special, the Chè thp cm (combination), and the Chè trái cây for you. And yes, I totally copied and pasted that from the website. Those options all sounded good to me but I decided to go with #1 because, well, it was special. When I got my drink and I sucked on that straw and the coconut meat went down throat along with the sweet, cold, drink; I was happy. It was so good and refreshing. Two of my friends also got the same thing, but one person actually didn't like it. He said that the flavor was kind of weird for him. Turned out, he didn't like the coconut (Not sure if him being non-Asian played a factor but he didn't like it). A couple other friends got the raspberry tea and the hazelnut mocha. They weren't too adventurous with the different drinks so they stuck with something they knew they would like (Again, they weren't Asians.) One girl finished her Bambu special and decided to get a second drink and opted for the avocado smoothie. That was also so good. If you love avocado, definitely try that! The whole time we were there, the line never stopped forming. People came and went but the place never really got super packed. We went to BAMBU for the first time in hopes of trying these drinks. The first thing I would like to bring out is that the drinks looked nothing like in the photos on the website of what we ordered. No signs of jelly in the mango dazzle. No signs of coffee in the avocado coffee. The girl upfront was quite rude and I could tell her day was already pretty bad from her attitude. We didn't really want to bring them back in to ask, because we're not from here. My girlfriend insisted since the drinks looked nothing like the photo. I could obviously tell there was a lot of miscommunication going on from the get go. I didn't really expect our order to be that complicated. A manager came out and said that we're supposed to request for the drinks to look like the photo? That obviously does not sound right... Why put a picture up on your website and expect us to REQUEST for them to create a drink we expected to begin with? The manager did offer to recreate the drink, but by the time we could say anything he had walked away. Overall, not a great experience. I like their new location better as it is bigger but sometimes during busy hours it can be hard to find a table. This place is very interesting because you will always find a mixture of older and younger crowds in the same place. I always order the #1 Bambu special which contains coconut, pandan jelly, longan, and basil seeds. It always tastes so fresh as well as refreshingly sweet if I don't feel like drinking sugary bubble tea. I have never tried any of their bubble teas so I'm not sure what that is like. The only thing is that I wish each chain is consistent. Every time I come here, my dessert drink is always on point, however, their location on Richmond (which is closer to me), never tastes the same as this location. I honestly hated everything about Bambu since they opened up down here, but after many years, I decided to try it again. That's where I messed up. Dessert: Just like years ago, the only thing that tastes somewhat fresh is the coconut milk. Jellies are half hard, half soft - literally. Some parts are like refrigerated gummies, and other parts are like gummies you forgot in the car in the middle of summer. There's still that huge ball of ice that makes it exceedingly difficult to pick and choose which topping you wanna suck up next without getting shot in the back of the throat with sharp chunks of ice. Having BAMBU for the first time was like opening up to a whole new drink world. I tried the Bambu Combo (#2), which came with a mix of beans and jellies, taro, boba, and coconut milk. The variety of textures was so satisfying, as was the experience of crushing the perfectly round ice mound on top into the rest of the drink. This place is normally consistently good but when I recently went we ran into some problems. First off I got the taro milk tea and there was undissolved taro powder at the bottom of the drink. A couple of friends and I decided to stop here after din and grab dessert. We usually go here if we're in the area and craving a drink that's refreshing. But now, since they released their new shaved ice selection, it has got us craving just that!! The red velvet cake shaved ice is die for! Wow! It really taste like a cake!! I've been to this place many times and I always get "che 3 mau." I've tried this kind of dessert at so many places, and Bambu serves one of the best kind. Also, the Snow Ice here is unbelievable . I've had a LARGE GREEN TEA snow ice w/ LARGE RED BEANS & STRAWBERRY MOCHI. It's not the kind of place that only puts little topping on a bowl of nothing but ice, and calls it patbingsu or Korean shaved ice. This is the place that every spoon you eat is a wonderful experience. The ice tastes lighter than traditional ice-cream and is full with flavor. This has to be the busiest Bambu location in Houston. I've been a few times. The line can be out to the door on busy Saturday nights, luckily it moves fairly fast. I always order the #1; however, if I'm in the mood, I'll try other items too. They have several areas for seating which is cool. Obviously, they are located in one of the worst parking lots in all of Houston on Saturday nights when there are weddings and other events going on at Kim Son, so parking can be a pain at that time. read more
