For many years after my last review of Banana Cafe (end of 2011), we continued to visit and for the most of that time, things were good (good food, decent service and nice atmosphere).... but then we disappeared for a bit and now we are back... The atmosphere is still excellent... great decor that is very warm and comfortable. The service, like reminiscent of the past, is still hit or miss.... granted our server was nice but no personality or emotion and kept forgetting things... I still like the offerings on the menu but I don't like the look of the newer menus... they feel very commercial, almost like a chain-restaurant (too cutesy). It's understandable that the menu would undergo subtle changes but unfortunately for me, the changes were spot on to my favorite dishes. For example, my favorite breakfast is no longer on the menu, Salmon Omelette. I'd understand if salmon wasn't available or too costly but they still offer smoke salmon for other dishes. I noticed another change was no longer including a salad with the Seafood Omelette... minor stuff but worth mentioning. Don't get me wrong, the food was good but the effort for preparation and presentation was kinda blah compared to in the past.... I ended up ordering the HAM AND SWISS OMELETTE... they still have the best caramelized onions; the best. In the past, they clearly mixed some of the ham into the egg for the Ham and Swiss Omelette... made it so appealing and mouthwatering, but now it looks boring like any 'ol bagel shop omelette; and until you cut into the omelette, you could never tell it has ham. And please don't think or write to me that the ham belongs in the center... just look at the pictures of the ham and cheese omelettes from the past in the pictures and you will see me boring plate is not exactly tantalizing. The wife had their FRESH HERB AND POTATO OMELETTE... again, the food was good but the presentation and preparation was different than the effort made in the past. For years the potatoes in the Potato Omelette were wide, but thin slices of potato that were cooked into the omelette; now that just have a bunch of pieces and little wedges... The food preparation changes may seem petty but those are the kind of changes that effect the experience and longing to return for the desire to return. read more

Highly recommend! We ate on the rooftop and it was absolutely beautiful. Had a Bloody Mary that was on point. I had The escargot and lobster Benedict. Both amazing! Our other guests had the banana foster waffle and the chicken Cordon Bleu crêpe. They were extremely pleased. High-quality food with amazing service. The prices were also reasonable. Felipe was our server and he was attentive and friendly! Melissa, the GM, took care of all of our needs and made sure that our experience was excellent. I've been going to Bananas Cafe for years, well before the pandemic and after. I've even taken my parents here when they came to visit my in Florida. The food quality here has always been consistent and great. It is owned and operated by a nice older French lady that is a hustler, and great business woman that is there all the time. Also has multiple other businesses nearby. I've had many things on the menu, and have gotten take out from here for years. Love the shrimp salad, croque monsieur, ooh la la burger, and salads. Great portions, never had anything I didn't like. Place is always filled with diners. Food is fresh, delicious and consistent. You can't go wrong here for lunch. read more

If you're looking for really good food at moderate prices and a friendly unpretentious vibe, then Banana Cafe is a great fit. On the south end of Duval away from the main KW hustle, one can enjoy three meals daily in their downstairs room, side porch or while people watching on the upstairs deck. They don't take reservations and they can get crowded at times, but lines move quickly in my experience. Banana Cafe offers a varied menu with a French flair, e.g. the escargot swimming in garlicky butter with baguette is fabulous. But I give top accolades to their lobster BLT, a generous slab of lightly breaded lobster, crunchy bacon and lettuce/tomato nestled on toasted white bread. Among the best sandwiches I've ever had in my life! Check out their daily special fish dinners, ultra fresh and well prepared. Ditto for their fresh fruit sangria; I had blackberry flavor for the first time this last trip. Yum. Service can be a bit slow but I noticed that their servers work as a team so that speeds things up and creates a pleasant noncompetitive atmosphere. For a Monday morning, this place was BUSY, but delightful. We really enjoyed the breakfast though it was a slow wait once we ordered and we almost got someone else's but it was quickly rectified before we even had anything in front of us. I would suggest that if you have the time, wait it out, they have a bit more of a healthy breakfast option, but it was good. I got the omelet and it was really good. I really love their bread. This was a cute cafe with some great art decor. The service was on point. Both salads were delicious! The Cobb shrimp salad was fresh, plated well and tasty! Waitresses are friendly. It takes a while before food came. So don't wait too long to put in your order! We ordered the sweet potato as appetizer. It wasn't very crispy. The sauce that goes with it was just ok. I like it without the sauce. I ordered the banana mimosa as I was in a banana cafe! It tastes just fine. I didn't taste much banana flavor from it.
