I've been going to Bananas Cafe for years, well before the pandemic and after. I've even taken my parents here when they came to visit my in Florida. The food quality here has always been consistent and great. It is owned and operated by a nice older French lady that is a hustler, and great business woman that is there all the time. Also has multiple other businesses nearby. I've had many things on the menu, and have gotten take out from here for years. Love the shrimp salad, croque monsieur, ooh la la burger, and salads. Great portions, never had anything I didn't like. Place is always filled with diners. Food is fresh, delicious and consistent. You can't go wrong here for lunch. read more

Good little place for breakfast with a very cool interior design, but service can be a bit slow and portions are very small. However, would highly recommend any their crepes as they are the specialty item, they really are quite amazing. read more

Banana Cafe came highly recommended by a local ferry-crewman. Tucked in on Duvall street, this spot is perfect for people and rooster watching. I started with a divine blackberry mimosa and watched the bustle of the morning crowd. This is a place to take your time. The la super crepe, after a little salt and pepper love, was satisfying. Charming place. Rooftop has a nice breeze, is good for people watching, tables seat 6. However, the food is sub par. Croque madame had soggy rye bread. Crapes had no taste, no vanilla flavor, just flour. Waitress had no pad to take down the order and got 2 out of 5 orders wrong. Got fries instead of chips. If you're looking for really good food at moderate prices and a friendly unpretentious vibe, then Banana Cafe is a great fit. On the south end of Duval away from the main KW hustle, one can enjoy three meals daily in their downstairs room, side porch or while people watching on the upstairs deck. They don't take reservations and they can get crowded at times, but lines move quickly in my experience. Banana Cafe offers a varied menu with a French flair, e.g. the escargot swimming in garlicky butter with baguette is fabulous. But I give top accolades to their lobster BLT, a generous slab of lightly breaded lobster, crunchy bacon and lettuce/tomato nestled on toasted white bread. Among the best sandwiches I've ever had in my life! Check out their daily special fish dinners, ultra fresh and well prepared. Ditto for their fresh fruit sangria; I had blackberry flavor for the first time this last trip. Yum. Service can be a bit slow but I noticed that their servers work as a team so that speeds things up and creates a pleasant noncompetitive atmosphere. We stumbled in here our second day in Key West, and this was worth every trip back. Must've had breakfast here about 4 times . Tried other places, but Banana Cafe was the best. Not good pina colada's and okay service. I won't come back. Honestly wasn't a great experience. They only had one worker which I understand. But we placed our order and paid and also tipped and she proceeded to make others orders ahead of ours when we ordered a pina colada. Felt a little bit of a micro aggression. Just strolling down Duval street and feeling hungry. Stopped in here as it looked busy and comfortable. Thought we might have to wait but we were seated immediately. Kinda loud but not too bad. The food was ok at best; actually not that good. Server could not get order right and we only ordered 3 things. Manager did not seem to care. Most restaurants try to take care of a problem; not this place. Then they caught an attitude. Also see they have been written up 3 times by health. Too many other places on island with better service, better food better management. Definitely the worst restaurant I have been to on island so far. Restaurants make mistakes but generally do more to try and fix it, not this place. For a Monday morning, this place was BUSY, but delightful. We really enjoyed the breakfast though it was a slow wait once we ordered and we almost got someone else's but it was quickly rectified before we even had anything in front of us. I would suggest that if you have the time, wait it out, they have a bit more of a healthy breakfast option, but it was good. I got the omelet and it was really good. I really love their bread. We got seated upstairs outside and the weather was perfect for it. We went twice and the 1st time we were sat quickly (4 of us, 5 minutes) 2nd time in good time as well (12 of us in 15 minutes). The servers are decent and were attentive. Stopped by for dinner on a sunny day! We sat outside on the roof top on the 2nd floor. It was nice! You could hear the roosters crowing everywhere. I like the ambience overall. Waitresses are friendly. It takes a while before food came. So don't wait too long to put in your order! We ordered the sweet potato as appetizer. It wasn't very crispy. The sauce that goes with it was just ok. I like it without the sauce. I ordered the banana mimosa as I was in a banana cafe! It tastes just fine. I didn't taste much banana flavor from it. I ordered the lobster BLT. Overall it was good. My friend likes my dish more than her avocado crepe. I like mine more than hers too. read more

So when we first walked in, it looked cozy. Our table wobble back-and-forth. My husband had to put something underneath to prevent it from wobbling lol. That did not take away from the service.
