We came across Blackfin Bistro on our last night in Key West. If we had discovered it earlier in the trip, it likely would have earned a repeat visit. Food Blackfin is a beer and wine restaurant, so no cocktails. I'm not a big drinker, but I do enjoy when a place offers creative house cocktails. Since I'm not much of a wine or beer person either, I was initially a bit disappointed. That changed quickly when I saw they served Stiegl Grapefruit Radler. That alone felt like a small vacation in a glass. The menu offers plenty of choices to satisfy almost any palate. We weren't especially hungry, so we opted for a lighter approach: * Grilled Octopus * Tempura Green Beans * Spinach and Goat Cheese Salad Everything we ordered was very good. The salad was fresh and thoughtfully balanced, with bacon, goat cheese, apple, and honey bringing layers of flavor. It was served with a crusty baguette. We don't normally eat bread, but this was a welcome addition. The grilled octopus was tender, flavorful, and served hot. Always a good sign. The tempura items were nicely executed, lightly battered and not greasy. The green beans were crisp with delicate seasoning, served alongside a balsamic glaze dipping sauce that complemented without overpowering. Service Service was attentive throughout the evening. We never felt forgotten, and we never felt rushed. The pacing was natural and relaxed. Thank you, Gabor. Atmosphere The indoor dining area feels quiet and intimate. The outdoor patio in the back leans more casual. Surrounded by a tall fence and shaded by trees that form natural canopies, it offers a sense of privacy that can be hard to find in many of the more open-air restaurants along Duval Street. Even though this was a lighter, abbreviated meal for us, my sense is that Blackfin would be an excellent choice for a full dinner. One of my fav restaurants on the island. Entrees were delicious this evening (per usual) I forgot to take a photo. Service is great and excellent deals during their happy hour. Highly recommend their Diablo Burger, croquettes, tempura green beans and of course their creme brûlée is the best on the island as well as their carrot cake. Blackfin is a must try - we made it in on a slow night and chose to sit outside . Super romantic and intimate vibes . The food is delicious and the service is good. We started with the mini Maine lobster rolls - a yummy treat with delicious lobster salad and we got the mussels with white wine ( beware that the taste of the wine is pretty strong if you aren't a fan of that ). For entrees, I got the shrimp Provençal and my husband got the grilled yellowfin tuna . The shrimp was okay but the tuna was out of this world . All the flavors paired together amazingly . Had an early dinner at Blackfin. And honestly it was pretty much a let-down. Started with the grilled octopus which was tough; seemed "too big" if that's a thing. For my main I had the tuna burger which was just okay. Felt really limited by the menu choices. Service was great. No complaints there. Blackfin Bistro is a quaint restaurant ideal for date night. The inside has dim lighting, some bar seating, and small tables throughout the dining room. They do have an outdoor patio as well! Humbly situated on Duval Street, this is a nice escape from the hecticness, the crowds, and of course, the heat. We didn't have a reservation and they were able to accommodate us (with a table by the window, score). You can make a rezzy right on Yelp, too! The menu is seafood heavy, more gourmet than many of the fried seafood places you'll find in town. Other options include salads, burgers, and a few pastas. Even though from its appearance you'd think they'd have a full bar, they serve beer and wine only. The wine program is extensive and noteworthy. Grilled Octopus ($25) tempura avocado, sweet soy & ginger. If there's octopus on the menu I will order it every time. This had great grill flavor and a pleasing aroma. Tender, but had more chew than I typically care for. The fried avocado actually stole the show because OH. MY. GAWD. Absolutely sensational bite. Steamed Mussels ($37) 1lb w/ fries, white wine sauce. They offer this by the half or full pound and choice of sauce. I will say the fries were crispy and delicious. The mussels themselves were cooked properly. It definitely satisfied the craving, though I was hoping for more robust flavors from the white wine. Also, I wish there was a piece of bread to sop up the sauce, that's the best part of eating mussels IMO. I will say my wife really enjoyed the burger she ordered. What an awesome hidden gem on Duval street. We have walked past this place so many times and I'm so glad it finally caught my eye one of the evenings with its charming, dimly lit atmosphere... The food was outstanding! I tried their lobster salad and it was bursting with flavor. The homemade dressing took it to the next level. My husband had the pork chop which was cooked well and was full of flavor. For appetizers we ordered escargot and goat cheese croquettes which were also great. They have a nice wine list and a selection of beers but no craft cocktails. But again wine selection is very versatile so you can find something for every palette. The interior is very nice and romantic and their outdoor garden is beautiful. Service is very friendly and attentive. My bf and I come here regularly. We always sit at the bar and have a wonderful time with Bogdan. He is a fantastic employee, we enjoy talking to him. The restaurant only serves beer and wine so no cocktails here! We've tried quite a few items from their menu, our favorites are the escargots and the grilled octopus with tempura avocado. The escargots are buttery/oily -- delicious. The sauce for the grilled octopus has a sweetness to it that is just so addicting. We used to enjoy the conch cakes but sadly they took them off the menu (this is my petition to bring them back)! I tried the gazpacho last time I was here and although the flavor was good, I've never had gazpacho before so I couldn't get behind a cold soup. But if you like gazpacho, I would recommend it, the flavor was good. The goat cheese croquettes are good too but rich and filling! Last time my bf and I went I ordered the Diablo burger and he ordered the 1/2 blackened bird. Thankfully Bogdan advised the burger wasn't spicy despite its name and he was correct. It was enjoyable with the goat cheese and not spicy at all. My bf enjoyed his 1/2 blackened bird and said it was delicious (he finished it before I was able to try!) All in all, this is a great spot. Absolutely amazing! From fantastic service, wonderful food, and a lovely ambiance nothing leaves you wanting here. I made a reservation on yelp ahead of time and it was very convenient. We arrived a bit early to our reservation and they were able to seat us right away. We were offered suggestions and meals/apps of the day. We quickly placed our order and our drinks were served to us right away. I ordered their Bex Riesling and it was exactly what I was looking for. Not sweet, crisp, yet only slightly dry. Very refreshing and paired perfectly with all of our seafood selections. My fiancé loves sweet wine only and opted for dessert wine from the start! He enjoyed the 10 year Tawny Porto, but he absolutely loved the Ruby port he had after. Our server was so kind and offered him a tasting of their 20 year Tawny and the Ruby since there was not another glass of the 10 year Tawny. Again such sweet and fantastic service! We had the sautéed calamari for our appetizer and then we ordered the yellowfin tuna burger (medium rare) and the Shrimp Provençal (Key West Pink Shrimp). The calamari's garlic parsley butter was to die for and made the sautéed calamari even better. Usually there can be a rubber texture to calamari when not fried, but that was not the case and we were thankful for it. Absolutely a must try! My fiancé devoured his burger and the tuna was cooked to perfection. He really enjoyed their aioli on the burger and their fries were so crispy! I was on the hunt for Key West Pink Shrimp and I'm so glad we came here for it. The shrimp was exactly as expected, large and delicious! The garlic butter they cooked it in was fantastic and paired so well mashed potatoes and spinach. We had a wonderful time at Blackfin Bistro a couple weeks ago. My fiancé and I stopped in later in the evening and were lucky to be seated right away in the restaurant. It was beautiful and had amazing a/c. Our servers were great- very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. Impressive wine list (beer list is limited). We started with the goat cheese appetizer which was amazing. We loved the caramelized onions with it. I ordered the grilled grouper and my fiancé had the pork chop. We recently spent NYE in Key West--a first for me, but the third visit for my husband. We went to a lot of his favorite places, but this was a brand new spot we decided to check out for dinner. We are so glad we did! We had an amazing meal at Blackfin Bistro. We made a reservation (which was needed for a busy Friday night in tourist season) for indoors, which is on the smaller side with a cute vibe. We were glad to be inside as it was a chilly night, but the outdoor back patio looked fun, too. Our server was very prompt and friendly. I got one of my favorite sauvignon blancs to start, and I was pleased to see it on the menu. They had a great wine list. We started with the conch cakes, which we must preferred over the more popular conch fritters, since you could actually taste the conch but you still had some fun breading. We also got the escargot, which was served outside of their shells in a buttery sauce. Easier to dunk your bread in that way! My dinner of seared yellowfin tuna (sooo soft and flavorful, definitely some of the best I've ever had) over perfectly cooked soba noodles and with crispy and umami tempura green beans was fantastic! My husband got the wagyu burger, which was super juicy and accompanied by delicious fries (not too soggy and not too crispy, just right). First we had the rudest server I've ever met. We ordered the Old fashioned burger and a yellow fin tuna sandwich. He told my boyfriend in a very dismissive and judgey tone that the burger was "boring and nothing exciting" and that he "should order something else", but he again requested the burger. When the food came out I tried to cut my sandwich in half and there was a piece of sinew running through the length of the tuna I couldn't even cut through, and the rest of the fish was visibly raw before even cutting it. When I showed my partner he insisted I send it back. The server said that "Medium/Medium Rare is just how they cooked it". My partner is a sous chef at a 5 star restaurant and said he'd never send something like that out, nor would he allow anyone else to do so. They remade the sandwich and we took everything to go. It was well done this time and the burger was also much rarer than we wanted, but everything was good. Ultimately good food, awful service. read more

What a delightful brunch we had here this past Sunday! The latest restaurant on the island to add this favorite weekend staple to it's menu offerings, it is obvious that they waited until they knew that they could get it right to do so Brothers Joey and Michael have been at the top of the Key West dining scene for years now, so it will come as no surprise that the food, created by Joey is incredibly delicious and the service from the front of the house to the wait staff led by Mikey is friendly and impecable. (Shout out to our spectacular waiter Jason!) On a rainy evening we were able to get seated in the dining room @ Blackfin. A Friday night with tables full and a busy bar. As we had appetizers already we just opted for the main course. The dining room is quite loud. Our waitress tried to tell the specials but her voice barely made it out above the crowd. Maybe a printed specials menu would be more helpful. My girlfriends pasta (shrimp provencal) was excellent. Great flavors and the right size. The Steak au poivre looked good. Unfortunately the meat was with lots of muscle and fat parts. They could have cleaned and trimmed the meat better. Also the steak was more cooked on one side then the other. A miss in my opinion. The sauce was good. The waitress was very keen to sell me some more wine. I was half way through the glass of red and she was hovering around trying to sell me another one. We were not even finished with our meals and she put the check down. We didn't ask for it. We were both astonished. So that's what they call dinner at Blackfin Bistro. Rush job I would call it. I ordered the Wagyu burger with truffle fries. It was delicious, but for some reason, I did not take a picture of it. My daughter got grilled tuna and loved it. My husband got the seafood pasta, and he told us countless times how delicious it was. My daughter really enjoyed her shrimp pasta. As a part time Key West local, I've been to Black Fin Bistro several times before..... however based on last nights experience I doubt I'll be back. The food when it did arrive correctly was pretty good. However 2 of the 4 dishes when they initially came out were wrong and resulted in 2 of our 4 person party eating without others and when the other two dishes did come, we were basically finished with our meals, so we basically ate separately. Not a massive deal.... but the attitude and inattentiveness of the waiter was unacceptable.... he seemed agitated that we sent the food back even though they brought the wrong dishes out. Perhaps he should have written things down vs trying to recall our order from memory. Very disappointed as I genuinely liked this place. Management needs to teach this waiter that he is in the service business. Judging by some other recent reviews it appears this is a pattern. read more

This place was really pretty good, with the exception of a group of 5 that tried to own all the oxygen in the air. When they left, nearly the entire restaurant wanted to cheer - yeah, don't be those people. My wife had Seafood pasta and I had the special, which was a blackened yellowtail. We both had the shrimp bisque, which was also a special. Our entrees were very tasty, but we didn't think too much of the shrimp bisque as it was very thin (not a whole lot of cream), which they made you aware of. We will absolutely go back, as the place has a nice ambiance (minus the clowns) and had other items we would like to try. Staff incredibly professional, very nice and extremely prompt.
