Got a pair of slacks on sale here but their selection has dwindled over the years. There's only a few staff members, so getting someone to open the fitting room door can be challenging. Also, I'm not a fan of the hard upselling they do for getting a credit card with them. No should be no, and that should be that, but it's always some dragged on speech about free alterations and discounts and just check this and that out. Umm, no, I really don't want one. I wish they would bring back more suit styles and different linen shirts for the summer. One of the smaller Banana Republics, however if you go to the sale section for women I find that they have a much better curated sale section that's organized -- more so than the Valley Fair location which is bigger but it feels very disorienting to shop there for some reason. I came here to make a return and I found some really cute blouses on mega sale for an additional 70% off! Don't know how they're profiting off these prices. I try to shop in-store when I can even though e-commerce is booming and the safer bet during the pandemic however brick and mortar stores are struggling so I try to contribute. I shop at this location for years and have been satisfied with the overall experience! Unfortunately, my last experience was not so pleasant. It was with one of the manger's who made my experience uncertain if I want to shop at this location again. Not the largest BR, but they usually always have something I like and more importantly, there is almost ALWAYS a sale going on. Whether it's 25%, 40%, or even 50%, it seems like there's always a sale going on so definitely don't buy at full price. The staff here is very friendly and accommodating. I've been shopping at BR for a while and the quality seemed to have dipped during the early 2010s, but now it seems better. Can you really have too many organic cotton sweaters? I feel like Banana Republic is really becoming a better and better place to shop and this location might be on the best locations I've been to. I found a pretty awesome blue cardigan here! Structure is a little strange as you have to make lefts and rights to get to the end of the place. Almost feels like I'm inside a tetris shape. Still the quality of product is really great at this location and the store is very clean and organized. I used to shop at the Stanford store because it's a mile from the office but after leaving the last 2 times because the cashiers either ignore you completely or act as though it's an inconvenience to take your money.. The Hillsdale store isn't as picked over and the sales people are super. They'll order your size if you need a long, short, petite or another color. Fall items are in, some great jumpers and dresses, beautiful silky blouses and cotton sweaters. I'm allergic to wool and BR always has a couple of non-wool, non-cashmere sweaters to pick from, but grab pants now because all their fall pants are usually full of wool. The 30% off sign was up in front of the store so I had to check it out. Bought some black ankle slacks for $40! They're dressy, lined, soft and machine washable! Rose is great. She goes the extra mile to find what you need at a great price. She's also honest about what you try on if you ask. She gently hinted I buy my clothes too big and suggested going down a size. She's so sweet and helpful be sure to search for her if you head over. I miss the power lunches when they'd run around the store at noon handing out additional 20% off coupons. Came here with my boyfriend to buy some clothes and a jacket for winter we received very good customer service the person that assisted us was very friendly and patient and when they didn't have the size that we needed in the front of the store he went to the back and made sure to check if they have it. The store is neat and clean. The services are nice EXCEPT the big blonde lady at the cash register on Sunday night. The store signage says it's" 40% off your purchase". When I checked out my items, only couple got the discounted price, the rest were in full price. I was confused so I asked that lady to double check because it didn't say for selected items only nor some exclusions apply. She got so impatient and yelled at me in an extremely loud voice. Everyone in the store literately dropped everything, turned around and looked at us. Geez lady, it was a simple question, no need to yell at your customer. We were at Banana Republic yesterday and the store manager continues to be unfriendly and unhelpful. She did not show any warmth or greeted us when we approached the counter to pay for our purchases, It sounded like she hissed at us and then rolled her eyes. After we paid for our purchase she just pushed our purchase to me and didn't ask if we wanted a bag. Then she pushed the receipt to me without making any eyes contact, no thank you and just walked away. All the times we go in there, we avoid her. Why is she still there? Update 12/27/2007: Wow yesterday I was introduced to the concept of Price Adjustments. I just happened to be at Banana returning something when I noticed a shirt I bought last week with my 30% coupon was further discounted. BR has this cool thing where they can scan your receipt and tell you *all* the items that have price adjustments. I had two receipts within 2 weeks so I had both scannned... saved ONE HUNDRED BUCKS. Not only do they do the price adjustment but they still tack on the 30% coupon savings that I used last week. AWESOME! Price adjustments, this is better than sex! Better than drugs! Better than rock-n-roll! I was so excited that I called a friend, hit voicemail. Called my sis-in-law, told her about my savings. Damn shopping is euphoric. ============================== Update 11/21/2007: Correction, this place *does* sell underwear... and socks too (well online at least). They have a big sale right now too, so I'm returning all the stuff that still have tags and I'm buying it all back with a steep discount... A few things to get used to like stuff feeling a little tight in the rear-end side. But all in all, when you look in the dressing room mirror, you just gotta smile and say, damn I look good. Now keep in mind that this stuff is expensive. You can drop a few Bengies, a lot of Bengies in fact. But hell, the stuff here is fiiiinnneee, and it beats walking to 100 different stores looking for clothes. So guys, come here with your fav gal and bring your big limit credit card. I Certainly hope that someone from Banana Republic Corporate office actually reads these....but they probably don't care. I went to Banana Republic to return 2 items today...that I had bought online. The little brochure they always put in my bill say "Returns are easy at any Banana Republic Store" I guess they didn't mean Hillsdale Mall Store. I went and stood in line, I was the only person.....they had 3 clerks helping customers....They looked to be pretty involved, but I figured it shouldn't take that long. I was in no rush..... Well, the one clerk on the end finished her transaction, and I went to go to her counter and she puts her hand up and says, "just a minute" Okay, another clerk had come up to ask her a question about an item....... So I waited....Meanwhile another clerk was done with her transaction and when I went to walk to her counter, she took off....(must have been break time) Meanwhile the other clerk is still questioning a price of something I'm sure was extremely important with another clerk....(the one that told me just a minute) and I wait and wait and wait. Then she takes off (maybe they all take breaks at once) Now I am still standing there (no one else in line) And there is one clerk left who is waiting on someone that has the biggest pile of exchanges and purchases I have ever seen..... He says "I 'll be with you in a moment" .....uh, I don't think so....... Finally, a clerk who is really miffed that she has to wait on a customer comes to the counter and says I'll help you here.....She was having too much fun thinking she's Britney Spears with her headphones..... By now I am fuming......I didn't say a word, because I wasn't sure what would come out. Here's the sad part....she was rude...Why? I am not sure....She wasn't the one who had just stood there for 20 minutes hoping, praying that someone would please wait on me..... Best Part, they have a customer service number to call posted at the front to voice good or bad service....Guess what? It doesn't work, No option on their menu for that and the people answering the phone don't know what your talking about, or they just don't care...... I love Banana. It's classic simple lines have always flatter my tall and athletic frame. The hem of most of the pants are even long enough! I love it when I find stuff marked down to 23.99 from $88 too! Who doesn't love a good sale! ? Alas, I miss the old days of Banana Republic. The days when you could walk in, know that you were going to pay more, but know that what you bought was well made with high quality cloth. Classics, that would be the staples in the wardrobe. That was years ago. The "new" BR started off by trying to be more trendy and more cutting edge. Nothing wrong with that per se, but don't do it at the expense of your classic staples. And use common sense. I don't want to pay $80 for a cardigan that has some ridiculous flap that is "in" this season but will be a laughingstock six months from now. Or some jacket that looks like the designer had a petit mal while coming up with the concept. No one is going to buy pieces that barely flatter the anorexic body of a model. You need to work harder to tailor a top to fit a woman's body. Boxy is a copout and is FUGLY, even if you try to tell us that it's in. And what happened to the quality of your pants? Luckily the fit is still the same, but where did the lining go? What happened to the nice wool they used to come in? Please, oh please, move the outsourcing to somewhere that can actually produce something worth your label, or ask the current third world country to step up to the plate! This location sits on the first floor of the Hillsdale Shopping Center and offers all of the goodness you would expect from the Banana Republic brand. From the size of the store to the incredible clearance section to the very friendly staff...everything is always fantastic. Note...men's section is in the back of the store (if you're coming from the mall), but there's also a door opening up to it from the street. And clearance is right next t men's. The only thing I would change would be how every employee repeatedly asked me if I wanted to open a BR card. I get it...I'll save an extra 15% if I do, but after I say no several times...just let it go. :) Overall...I've been a fan of Banana Republic since I was a kid and this location just keeps that love strong. read more

For me so far, most of the BR stores that I've been too seem to have the same selection. Once in awhile, there will be something that I am wanting, and they don't have my size in, but usually I can go downtown and pick that item up there. For this store, I think the mileage may vary. I have seen pretty helpful store staff here, but I have also met some pretty cold, impersonal store staff here at the cash register. The vibe I got was, "you better pay and go and don't give me any trouble or don't waste me extra 5 seconds" (when there was no line and the store hardly had any customers in it). In a way, it is like Amy in the movie Gone Girl, but that she reveals her true self to you. Came here from Stanford's BR, on a mission to find the perfect black blazer. Bee-lined it to the petite section (check), found the black blazers (check), found the blazer in my size (check), examined the hem on both shoulders and the stitching was off again. I looked at size 4 and 6 and the stitching wasn't as bad as the smaller sizes. What gives (obviously, not the stitching)? I asked someone to see if they had any more in the back and we got 2 more so I just compared the 3 and picked the one that wasn't that noticeable, but still, to pay $198 for something that's not perfect, especially a blazer that I would have to wear for an interview or a conference, is not cool. On May 12th I decided to return them because I bought a wrong size. Since I paid with my debit card, they did the refund to my debit card. They said I should expect to receive the money within the next 2 business days. WRONG It's already June 3rd, and I don't have my money! I have gone to the store 3 times, they never wanted to help me, they just told me "Call to the customer service department". Whaaat? I have called 6 times to the customer service dept., I even have a case number. Every time I call they say the same over and over again: "Seem like there is a problem in the system" (typical bad excuse given to a customer when someone just forgot to do something). I need to cancel my bank account next week, because I'm leaving the country, and that means that I will probably never get MY money back. Darn...this is why going back and expecting stellar customer service is unfortunate! I returned to this BR expecting the same amazing service as I had before, but this time I was wearing sweats it was an "errand running" type of day. I wasn't planning on shopping but I love the new Marisa line I just had to take a peek at the new styles. When I entered the front I had a great conversation with the gal in the front that greeted me, and eyed some really cute pieces. Sounds like it's great right? NOPE Here's where it went all bad. Couple steps into the next room I hear heels clacking. Ok sales associate is checking her section no problem. There's a message radio'd in like an undercover FBI at a fancy party. It's me.. Watch me the walkie talkie message is saying. No worries I say hi to her as well. Next section she follows me and PRETENDS to fold next to everything I'm looking at. WHAT?! Yup what a way to stereotype me! I look at what she's folding all stacks are already finger spaced and perfectly folded. C'mon you're suppose to be professional kids! I managed at Nordies many moons ago, I know this dance. Seriously? So I figure all right lets make the best of this and TRY to shop while they sharpen their skills. This makes me sad and disappointed because I had such a great experience last time (and spent hella money too!)I was back to buy more stuff. Even the fitting room treatment was wack, I let them count the pieces and let them stand outside my room so in case they thought I was taking something. I returned the exact garments with the number. And it gets worse I was trying to figure out which shirt I wanted and the sales guy kept insisting on holding my shirt to the counter and said "I'll put that in the front for you!" Huh? This was terrible and obvious this awkward behavior! I wish they didn't stereotype me, I wanted to purchase some dresses and more pieces, this prob would make their units higher/volume on this slow day. This store is way bigger than you'd expect it to be! I was here the other day for some last minute Xmas shopping and figured I might find something nice for my husband. I kept going and going, around one corner and yet another, searching and searching for the men's department....finally, victory! The regular priced stuff can be a little exorbitant, but their sales are damn fine indeed. Stop by soon to take advantage of the current promotion, an additional 40% off reduced items. Yay! The trick to purchasing clothes at this store ladies is to go over to the mens section. No lines. The have a better selection of clothes here compared to some of the smaller stores. This stor carries shoes and a majority of the accessories offered during the season. I didn't often buy from here because they didnt have my smaller sizes. read more
