What a fun place. This store truly has everything that is music related. Not only do they have records they also have CD's. This place is huge. Unfortunately they do t have the record we were looking for but the staff was nice enough to help us look for it. I can't believe record are naming a comeback. Was looking more for used stuff from my days - taking back Sunday, paramore, fall out boy, the starting line, new found glory, dirty heads, saves the day, early November, etc., but selection is mostly older. Could only find that kind of stuff at higher prices in the new vinyl section. Came out with some good classic rock stuff though. read more

Big thank you on custom service. I needed an Anniversary gift idea & called to find out if they have a specific record (artist: Howard Jones). The guy went to look, confirmed they had a few copies and held them for me until I got off work. I was able to get my guy a vinyl of the first concert we went to on our first date. And the album only cost $8. Priceless to us. Big store with all types of music in many forms - vinyl, CD and other music accessories. You can sell your music too if in good condition. This place is a local institution and I was surprised I haven't reviewed it. I probably spend $100 a month over the past 5 yrs at the record store, or record library / vintage electronics shop off 16 Ave N. Their vintage electronic selection is amazing. I've bought speakers, amps, turntables, and tape decks from Doug (owner who spends his days at the 16th ave n equipment shop). I've sold back equipment to him as well. He has always treated me well. Offering me deals if I accept no warranty, etc. This is why I've never hesitated selling my gear to him, even if I could get more on eBay. This is a business that we must support. Yesterday I was looking for a 2nd tape deck. I didn't find anything but left with an 80s deck that Doug have to me saying g it would otherwise go to the landfill. Although somewhat scratched up, I found it to work 100%. I got exactly what I needed! What a nice guy, and is truly in this business for the love of music. I hope this place never closes. Our community must protect this place for the next generation. We are truly blessed as music fans to have one of the largest, if not the largest, vinyl collections in the world, in our backyard. read more

Bananas is one of my favorite record and music stores in the Tampa Bay Area. First and foremost, they have a wide variety in terms of selections--vinyls (new releases and used); CDs; cassettes; music gear/equipment; gifts (candles, bags, Funko Pops); shirts, etc. Prices are pretty comparable to most shops in the area. It is also well organized so you can find what you're looking for. They are super cool in terms of hosting events and shows at the shop as well. My favorite aspect of the shop, however, is their used selection. I always find great used vinyls here for under $10. A must visit for music collectors! read more

For those of us who actually remember listening to our vinyl records, Banana's Music is a blast from the past and a gem in St Pete. Their selection of well-loved vinyl, CDs, video tapes & DVDs is enormous and the prices are good too. The best quality product is sold up front. I suggest you also take the time to sit & sort through stacks of uncategorized items in the huge "bargain room" in back where the CDs are 3 for $5 and have more wear on them than the items up front. You find all sorts of fun things this way. The staff is friendly & helpful. Let them know if you're looking for something specific and they may be able to get it from their numerous contacts around the country. We recently purchased a 5disc DVD set of all the Pink Panther movies for under $10. This set is difficulty find & costs at least $50-75 when you find it online. We were thrilled to find this at Banana's! It's just one of many fun purchases we've made here. This is such a fun place to spend time looking for great music & movies! read more

Vintage vinyl is back. What am I saying, to those who are diehard music fans vinyl never left. Jam packed with over 3.5 million records, Banana's touts themselves as the World's Largest Vinyl Record Collection. One could literally spend hours here - it's more than a record store, it's like a museum where you can buy records, used books, movies, and even turn tables. On my last visit, I picked up an old Depeche Mode CD for a few bucks. Be sure to pick up a Banana's Music t-shirt so you can wear it all around town and show your support for St. Pete's coolest record store. read more

This shop has great bones and atmosphere but sadly offers tepid efforts at grace and courtesy w/ its customers. One could get the impression this store is more business than passion, which is fine, but at least make an effort to know your product and respect the passion of your customers. (For example, while its reasonable you may not be willing to pay a decent used or trade-in value for a customer's product (for any number of reasons), dismissing the product's actual trade-in value is discourteous. And when an operation is in the business of selling physical media, try to avoid saying things like "no one buys physical media anymore because one can simply stream it." There are several other shops that I have found don't say and do these things and will frequently offer better value as well. Hopefully this review will encourage improvement in these areas. read more

I never actually do this reviews ,but i have to said something ,yes they have tons and tons of record no doubt about it,but the pricing lately is getting greedy,the other day i when to check some records mostly spanish at the warehouse ( like almost two hours inside)then you cross for the records to be pricing,so before i cross the gentleman who i think is the owner said just take the records and i ask him so you guys price the records hight and he said not we do an average price so i take maybe like 60 records to be price everything ok until here then becuase it was to many record one guy too half of the records to an office i think and the other guy stay and the check the other half ,so the guy who price the records at the front was done then he when inside to see if the other guy was done,and i start listening what they were talking loud ,one of the guy say man this spanish records are expense i have to be pricey no average here,i was listening the whole conversation ,and my wife said to me thats a bad customer service right there,so when we were done i check prices online and there you go not average on not even one record ,and the funny thing is that we are the actually the one that help them to price those records why? becuase they have to many no way they can go down and check every record so come on give your customers a break becuase we are the ones that show you those records that you guys never will know you have. I hope you guys do a better customer service and this is not about getting cheap records is about getting a correct ,fair and average ( like what the guy said on the warehouse) But at the end of the day you guys can do what ever you want. read more

I have to admit that this place and Sur La Table are the closest to my version of a "porn store". In both places, I wander around like a kid in a candy store. Trust me at the Bananas warehouse you can wander around for days if you don't give yourself a time limit. All of their music is not cataloged on the on-line search engine. Come with a list of artists and they will see what is in back and not on the shelves. We came with a pretty big list of obscure music and they had about 30% of what we wanted. 30% sounds low but it was highly obscure so I was very impressed with their selection. The prices are fair but don't expect to get a "steal" because they know their prices. My goal was to spend around $100 and we walked out with 5 albums. Two albums were very rare (one at $50 and one at $30). I was kicking myself that I didn't buy them in the early 90's when vinyl was cheap! If you are looking to round out your vinyl collection you definitely need to travel to Bananas. Make a list because you will wander for hours if you don't. Also, make sure you take an extra suitcase for all of your vinyl purchases! read more

This Bananas location is for their archives, which are absolutely amazing - five stars all the way. They have over one million records in their inventory, and it's the largest records archive I have ever seen. Everything from Edison cylinders and 78s to extremely rare vinyl that I've never seen anywhere else. Their browsing selection is fantastic (we go nuts over the blues and jazz), and you can spend hours looking and listening- rock, folk, R&B, disco, gospel, random weirdness - you name it and they have it. Seriously, they even have 8 tracks here. Their more valuable selections are stored on wooden shelves that are NOT browsable; you have to get help at the counter so that they can look through their list. The staff is very friendly and extremely knowledgeable. They can even clean records for you while you wait. It's the perfect place for any musician and/or music lover, and they have gift cards too. To sum up: this business is absolutely a local treasure and is a must-visit for anyone who listens to vinyl. Their other location, while fantastic, does not reach the level of awesomeness that this one does. Two thumbs and two big toes up! read more

3.5 Stars A pretty cool music store with a great selection of used & new CDs, vinyl, and DVDs. The workers there are very friendly and helpful. I always feel like I can't go with something specific in mind to buy, because odds are they won't have it (Lumineers CD?). Instead, I do better when I just randomly go through piles - that's when I have found a few gems. I'm sure they have a system, but pricing seems very random. I saw the same CD in the 3 for $5 rack and also in the main storage area for $3.99. I also wish there was some kind of order (alphabetical, at least) to the endless sale CD shelves. My back & eyes gave out long before I found CDs I had to have. If you go, plan to spend some time! read more

I have been wanting to check out this place for a while. Excellent selection of records, CDs, dvds and some Blurays. I could have spent a long time here wandering around. Prices were very fair. It appears they buy CDs, movies etc. They also sell turn tables. Parking in the rear and plenty of it. Staff was involved with something behind the counter. No worries. In town for work and stopped by. Did not have enough time to geek out but still managed spend $80 on some used music I found quickly.

This review is overdue. Bananas has the most records in two, close by, locations that you can imagine. They have a store and a warehouse you can peruse. I really like the "bargain" room at the shop as I have found some perfect playable records that I LOVE that cost one or two or three dollars. That is rare. The clean harder to find stuff is priced very well. The unicons may be here also, have to check. Staff is always helpful and courteous. Hell, even Michael Fremmer was impressed and spilled Tampa Bays secret to the world on Youtube. I must take this opportunity to thank the owners, here, for keeping the faith, so to speak, and continuing to service the vinyl community. When in St Pete or the Tampa Bay Area, this is the first shop to visit. read more

***BE AWARE, VERY BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE*** My husband and I went on Sunday, 10/17 at around 2:15pm to trade off some Dvd's and Cd's we no longer wanted to get something else from the store however the service we got was HORRIBLE. I brought a crate with dvd's and cd's from big artist and the lady that was there only offered us $20. My husband called me over to discuss it. My husband asked me what I think, all I had the chance to say is I don't know, it's not what I excepted as these cd's were worth more than what was offered. As we were talking amongst ourselves (literally 2 mins) she pushed everything back to us and said forget it, I don't want it anymore, take your stuff. She was very rude. A place we used to go to all the time we will NEVER go again. I had things I was going to buy and I just put it all back. We were treated very badly and I will never step foot in that store ever again. After this, I went to another place and they offered way more then what she was offering me and they were very friendly. I felt welcomed and very respected in that store however in this store.....HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE FROM THAT LADY.... NEVER GOING HERE AGAIN. read more

I had the pleasure of visiting Banana's a couple of times when I lived in Florida from 2011 to 2014. Banana's has two buildings: There's the "regular" store that has new and used CD and vinyl offerings, and there's the vinyl warehouse that's about a mile away on a nondescript side street. The regular store is fine, but the real treasure is the warehouse. Banana's says it's "the world's largest record store." Once you've seen this warehouse, you'll believe that statement. You could spend days in the warehouse, and some people travel from around the U.S. and the world to do exactly that. The warehouse has multiple copies of many pop/rock albums from the 1960s to 1980s -- plenty of them mainstream but also some obscure stuff. The first time I visited, I spotted something like five or six copies of Buckingham Nicks' 1973 album, which I have never seen anywhere else in a brick-and-mortar store! I was looking for some pretty obscure "West Coast/AOR" albums from the 1970s and 1980s on my two trips to Banana's, and they had many of them. Again, this was stuff I had never come across anywhere else in a brick-and-mortar store. Your experience might differ from mine, but I really found this place interesting. Sure, you could track down these records online, but I think it's more fun to hunt for them at a place like Banana's. Even on two trips, I didn't have a chance to see every area of the warehouse. That's how deep the stock is at this place. And it's pretty well organized, too, considering the amount of product they have for sale. Most of the records are located on shelves that go from the floor to several feet off the ground. The records are arranged by style (rock, R&B, soundtracks, etc.) and are in alphabetical order. The warehouse is kind of like a library of vinyl records, and it's easy to spend hours in the aisles. One key piece of advice: Bring a list of what you're seeking, or else you'll end up feeling overwhelmed! Banana's is one of the most interesting record stores I've visited, and I've been to many! I love going to records stores, and after hearing about the legend of this one my friend and I hopped into my car and took a small road trip. Yes, there are a lot of records. Can't say the records are well taken care of, and a lot of them were really over priced for what they are. I think I saw a busted copy of David Bowie's "Let's Dance" for $15. I was really impressed by the size of the warehouse without question, but didn't like the quality of the product. As for the main store it had a lot f records as well, but really I found myself looking more at the used CD's as those had some great prices, and a huge selection. The new vinyl was really limited, and was incredibly over priced. There are a lot of used DVD's as well, but I'm not sure who is looking for those anymore. In any case it was fun going out there to see what it was all about, but I doubt I'll ever be going back. read more

After reading that Banana's Music was rated as one of the best record stores in the United States by Rolling Stone magazine and that they had literally millions of records for sale, I knew had to check the place out. This was something much easier said than done. First, the place is located in a very awkward area surrounded by residential housing which makes it a bit hard to locate. Second, the place has so much music it is literally overwhelming! Even with their selection however, I can only give Banana's three stars. I have to admit that the place was pretty cool, and the people working were very friendly, but there was just so much stuff that browsing seemed impossible. Plus, it seemed like the majority of their music was a bit older. There is nothing wrong with this of course, but having new stuff isn't bad either. If I lived in the area and I was looking for a very specific record, I would without a doubt call Banana's up. For the browser however, this place is just way too big. You could go in and never come out alive! Kudos to those who brave the enormity that is Banana's Music. Don't forget to leave a trail of breadcrumbs! read more
