As some others have commented, we were surprised that we didn't discover this place sooner. The interior is nothing fancy - looks like something from the 90's. We tried the Pad Thai, Yellow Curry Noodles and House Fried Rice. You can pick your protein type and spiciness levels (1-5) for the noodle dishes. All the dishes had large portions and were delicious. We got a lot for what we paid. We would rate the Pad Thai and Fried Rice higher than the Yellow Curry Noodles. Notably, the fried rice has what the Chinese calls "Wok Hei", an elusive sought-after smoky flavor that is missing from this dish in most Asian American restaurants. One thing that caught us by surprise - we ordered spiciness level of 1 for the fried rice, but it still tasted unusually spicy - enough to make me sweat (and I know and love spicy food). Bananas Thai is my go to can't cook dinner let's order delivery restaurant. This family run restaurant is the best, the food is authentic, and fresh. The portions are nicely sized. They are very consistent with their quality. If you follow their Facebook page they run specials which is an added bonus. Dining in the restaurant was a pleasant experience, they really make it a welcoming environment for families, and make sure to let you know you're welcome back. It is a bit hot in the restaurant, but if we all kept our thermostats a little higher like them maybe our power grid would be failing haha. My go to favorites are: Pad Kee Mao spice level 1 uh these are amazing. Have you ever had this noodle dish? Go eat it now! It is saucy goodness. The flavors of the fresh basil with the sauce and the wide noodles. I could eat this everyday . Green curry spice level 1 I love the eggplant and this curry is so delicious. I always am sad when the eggplant is gone. I just want a big bowl of eggplant covered curry. The way they cook it is amazing. I've tried to do it at home and haven't been able too. I like to order a side of rice noodles and mix them in with my curry. Red curry spice level 2 because it's delicious but it makes your nose run. So be prepared. It's very flavorful. They are so careful and double wrap when they do delivery/ to-go to make sure the curry doesn't spill. Chicken skewers are a crowd pleaser so I like the option of ordering a dozen of them in a party tray. Their cream cheese ragoons are delicious. The shumai are delicious and the two dipping sauces they came with were so good! Of course their Thai iced teas are delicious. They also make their own mango ice cream that's amazing! Food is great. Service most days is great. Today they had a sever with a bad attitude. I did not get what I ordered. My dish was to have rice. I got a noodle base dish. The server knew it was wrong. He told me they had a lot of orders now ahead of me. If I wanted what I ordered I would have to wait another 20 min. I had already waited 30 min to get the wrong dish. So I eat what I got it was good just not what I ordered. Then he bought me a refill of ice tea. It had no ice and the tea was hot like it just been brewed. It was an awful experience for a $20+ meal. The food is great flavorful to the max. The spice on high so go for mild, as medium is lip tingling heat. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and ready to recommend. Bananas Thai is pretty authentic Thai food. All the foods we got were generally flavorful and I enjoyed everything for the most part. We got yellow curry oxtail, papaya salad, pad krapow, crab and shrimp fried rice, and tiger cry. The only thing disappointing was the tiger cry which was super chewy and not flavorful at all. The humans cried instead Crab and shrimp fried rice was delicious and definitely my favorite. Papaya salad was my second favorite. Mild was not spicy at all so I'd go medium spicy if you can handle. I was craving Thai food and Bananas Thai popped up. Located on 529 and highway six right next to the 24 Hr Fitness. I came on a Monday around 7:15. The restaurant was fairly big. There were two tables of 4. On the left there was this little cute house with a straw roof as decoration. The tables were spread out with the middle divider used as booth seating for both the left and right sides. I was greeted with a super friendly Hi!! From all the way back from the cashier. The waitress came over asked me what I wanted to drink. I looked over the menu and decided to get chicken pad Thai and curry massaman. When the food came out, I was pleasantly surprised! The portions are hefty! I think these entrees are meant for sharing. There was no way I was finishing both items. 4/5 The pad Thai was tangy and sweet. Noodles were soft. Peanuts were extra crispy! The bean sprouts gave a nice crunch. 4/5 Chicken curry Massaman The curry came out in a deep decent sized bowl on a plate with rice shaped in a heart. There were carrots, potatoes, chicken and whole peanuts. The curry was rich, creamy and salty. Too salty to eat alone but it is meant to be paired with rice. I visited here with a small group and since most of their tables are 4 tops, you basically get to sit right by the front door at busy times. Appetizers range from $4-8. Their first two appetizers are sort of unique but may not be for everyone. One is a stuffed chicken wing, and the other is fried bread spread with ground shrimp and chicken. Items you don't typically see at other Thai restaurants. They also have a special menu with photos, and offers more unique items you don't see at the common Thai restaurant, like striped bass, oxtail, lamb and spare ribs. Items on this menu range from $17-30 though. Their entrees are all priced around $16 (unless you order chicken or tofu which is $13), sort of pricy for this area of town. This restaurant is not all that fancy either. They offer all the usual salads, soups, curries, rice, and noodle dishes. Seafood dishes are a little more and range from $16 - 20. Note, they no longer serve sugar cane juice, something else you don't see at many Thai restaurants. I didn't order my usual pad kra pow, since the entrees are priced so high and just chose the tiger cry since you're essentially getting ribeye for the same price as their basic beef and they also ask how you want it cooked, a great sign. The last thing they ask is how spicy you want your entree. Spice ranges from 1-5 where 5 is double Thai hot. They don't have a dessert menu, but do have a kids menu which displays various ice creams. Coconut is the best option here, it is very good. They have a Thai hut in the middle of the restaurant along one wall...where they sell bags of banana and taro chips. It took a while for the food to come out, not sure if they were short handed, or just overwhelmed. Pad see you - too sweet Tom yum soup - too salty Tiger cry - cooked perfect medium rare and served in slices on a sizzling platter. I asked for spice level 5, but got a dipping sauce that was mild initially. After telling the waitress, she went to talk to the cook, came back a few minutes later with another ramekin containing what seemed to be the same mild dipping sauce. I tried it, noticed it was the same and essentially gave up. She returned a few minutes later and I mentioned it was the same as the first one, with very little to no spice/heat at all. Major mix-up, and unfortunately it doesn't seem like I got to try their "double Thai hot" to compare it to the heat levels I had experienced a few times at Thai Gourmet. I also can' t agree with other reviewers here saying this place is similar to how Thai Gourmet was, I just don't see the comparisons. Bananas does offer a lunch menu during the week. Overall, not a bad option for Thai if you're on the west side of town. read more

Was on the look out for some authentic Thai in the neighborhood and happened upon this restaurant and we are glad we did! Eatery has a cafe vibe, the waitress was really sweet and helpful, even the owner came out of the kitchen to talk with us, just really down to Earth. The food was well worth the trip. The papaya salad was sharp spicy with just enough fish flavor. Beef jerky with sticky rice with jeow sauce was perfect, one of my favorite appetizers now. This was my first time trying a catfish dish, maybe won't be my go to but I did enjoy the eggplant in it. Shumai was just right. The pork in yellow curry was just as expected. Finishing everything off we had mango and sticky sweet rice, perfect semi sweet, the warm rice was very flavorful, the slices of mango were so fresh. The perfect non encumbering dessert. Heat levels are 1 to 4 and ordered 3 as some places the heat is different but 3 was nice, hot but bearable. My business associate had number 1 (mild) fried rice with chicken. Plenty of meat added to each meal and cooked perfectly so I can tell they care about their quality and the staff is very friendly and know when to check on you, not to much but just enough at the perfect time as they pay attention unlike most places. We came across this hidden gem in a big shopping center by coincidence and honestly I'm so glad we did. From the moment that we walked in we were greeted with a smile from Kris. He brought us water and gave us plenty of time to look over the menu. We decided to order 2 appetizers, 2 meals and the Thai iced tea. Thai Iced Tea: This traditional Ceylon tea was surprisingly on point with its taste. You can expect to find your typical earthy notes, nutty undertones, and a kick of sweetness but not overpowering. After speaking with Kris about how delicious it was, he was very proud to inform us that this drink has been a trial and error effort to find the perfect balance of sweetness. He has mastered it. Soft Rolls (Shrimp) - Think Vietnamese spring rolls style with a bit of a twist. The combination of the soft rice paper filled with the vermicelli noodles, fresh lettuce, crisp shredded carrots, sliced cucumber and a bit of cilantro made this appetizer a fresh start. The semi thick hoisin sauce with crushed peanuts complemented the rolls perfectly. Appetizer platter - Comes with Spicy Cheese Rolls (4), Crispy Rolls (4), Veggie Dumplings (4), Triangle Tofu (4) : The spicy cheese rolls were very tasty, It's like a cream cheese stick egg roll style of an appetizer, the filling is a slightly spicy cream cheese and what seem to be shredded cheddar mixture that alone tasted delicious, and elevated with the paired sweet-and-sour sauce. Crispy rolls were just your typical veggie eggrolls with really good flavor and that crunch effect you would expect. Now, the next 2 we're a surprise to my taste buds. I'm very used to regular dumplings but I've never had a veggie dumpling. To say I was surprised on not only the texture but the taste of the filling is an understatement. The filling is really good and although purely veggie, had a very savory taste to it. Triangle tofu, something I normally would not order but very glad it was part of this platter. Tofu in the shape of a triangle deep fried and served with sweet-and-sour sauce topped with peanuts.. the sauce and peanut mixture on top made this a very unique and enjoyable appetizer. Panang Curry with Chicken- Bell peppers, carrots, peas, potato and panang curry paste in coconut milk. The Panang curry has a sweet, yet semi salty, thick nutty flavor. I ordered medium spice because I don't handle spicy food as well. This was right on the spicy level. The chicken was moist, the potatoes were cooked perfectly to a semi-al dente texture and the mixture of the white rice with the panang curry was a perfect balance. Next time I will actually order it mild spice. Pad Thai with Chicken- Stir fried thin rice noodle with red & green onions, radish, bean sprouts, and egg in their special triple flavors sauce. Serve with side of ground peanuts. My husband ordered his hot spicy (this was their third level on the heat scale). I was only able to take one bite to try it because I really don't do spicy. The secret to the best Pad Thai is the sauce, and through my one bite I experienced the perfect balance of Salty, sweet, and sour nutty fusion of a great pad Thai dish.My husband said one word to describe it " Delicious". We were able to inquire a bit about the family and food. Momma Chef Kay is the mastermind in the kitchen while her son and daughter tend to the customers. We really felt the love and dedication that they put into their business and am so glad to have had the opportunity to enjoy their cuisine from the heart. They took time to note my name, pay attention to the small requests (we had a vegan modification), and check on things. On top of all of that, the food was some of the best Thai I've ever had. I had the Green Curry and Triple Flavor Crispy Duck served with white rice for lunch. I really enjoyed the green curry which was creamy and had a very mild spiciness. However, the beef went with it was a bit overcooked and hard. The duck was well-done, tender, and melted in your mouth. The sauce was a bit too sour for my taste. The waiter introduced their traditional Thai dessert which was Sweet Sticky Rice with Mango. I love it! The sticky rice was so soft and semi-sweet. I have recently visited twice. Once was for lunch ordering the shrimp lomein which was perfect (no picture, sorry). The best shrimp lomein I can ever remember eating. Great egg noodles and generous shrimp made this meal an easy 5 and one that I still think about this the day. It was a large serving that would fill any appetite. The second visit was for dinner where I tried the Pad See You with chicken and flat noodles, broccoli and egg. This meal good but I thought a 3.5 in taste. It needed a little more flavor and perhaps I should have asked for more spice which this dish had none. Table service both time was very good and attentive. Plenty of parking in this shopping center. I will return for that lomein for lunch as some of their prices go up for dinner. read more

Visited Banana Thai this afternoon for lunch. When we entered the door, there were already three or four groups seated. I thought to myself, this is a good sign. The decor is nothing special. But the place seemed clean. We found a table that had just been wiped down Another good sign during these COVID times. We spent some time looking over the menu. There are a lot of options that sounded good. But, I've been eyeing the place for almost a week. I already had a game plan after looking at the online menu. We proceeded to order chicken and glass noodle crispy rolls, small Tom Yum soup, Papaya salad and Pad Kee Mao. The rolls and soup arrived first. The rolls were light and crispy, filled with chicken, noodles and cabbage. It was served with a very light sauce. Not sure if it was sweet and sour of sorts or just fish sauce. But, it was really good. To accentuate the flavors we used some of the peppers in fish sauce with lime and garlic. It wasn't too hot and added a lot of great flavor. The soup was delicious. We ordered it with shrimp. A small serving was probably about 3 cups. More than enough for 2 people. It was spicy and tangy all at the same time. Just how Tom Yum should be. The soup was full of tomato and large pieces of mushroom. There were only 3 shrimp in the order. In my opinion, they were a bit over cooked. But, they had good flavor. I really enjoyed the soup. The next dish came. It was the Papaya salad. I've had this salad at several places now. it is something I really like. This dish had a bit of an unusual after taste. We talked to our waiter. He informed us there were 2 versions of the salad. The other had more of a pungent flavor with fish sauce. He offered to bring that version. He said he wanted us to be happy with our order. The Papaya was fresh and crunchy. It was topped with peanuts and carrot strings. The salad was dressed in fish sauce. I agree it was better, but still very different from other restaurants I've experienced. The final dish arrived, Pad Kee Mao. This was wide noodles, chicken, onions, broccoli, tomatoes and egg in a spicy brown sauce. It was the highlight of the lunch. The noodles were tender. The vegetables still crisp. The sauce was thick and covered each bite. It was spicy, but not too spicy. We ordered all dishes with medium spice. This level was just the right amount of heat. We had the sniffles all through lunch. If we needed additional heat, there were a lot of accompaniments offered; sambal, siracha, a dry spice blend. But the two that made an impression were the chillies in fish sauce and the chili oil. The first was a blend of pepper slices, fresh garlic and limes marinated in fish oil. Fantastic! The chili oil was the tops. There wasn't much oil to it. It was chopped chillies that were so smoky in flavor. It was amazing!!! It added so much flavor to the Pad Kee Mao. Place was very nicely decorated and they played nice music that wasn't too loud. Family Owned Thai Restaurant off of Fm 529 and Hwy 6. I've actually been here a few times before, but never with my husband. The place was a little quiet when we first arrived for a Friday night, but don't let that fool you. This dim little spot is a hidden gem. My husband was concerned by the lack of people, but I made him come in. So he was losing his Thai food virginity lol! The server was very sweet and gave us menus almost instantly. Whenever we go anywhere we try to at least get 2-3 entrees so we have leftovers and can really enjoy a little of everything. We started with the fried chicken dumplings, and the dim sum combo! We definitely recommend the dumplings they were crispy and filled with chicken and cabbage. The dim sum combo was alright. Nothing to write home about. The shu mai was rather chewy, but it wasn't terrible. For our entrees we got, chicken pad Thai, veggie delight, and crab and shrimp fried rice. The pad Thai was a level 3, but we should have gotten hotter. It was delicious. The sweet savory tamarind sauce was spot on and the peanut's complimented it perfectly. I only wish we got more limes. It's probably some of the best pad Thai I've had in a long time. My toxic trait is wanting to add extra fish sauce to everything lol, but only the three crabs brand. Otherwise the pad Thai was perfection. The veggie delight was amazing! The spicy green curry complimented the vegetable selection. We only wish there was more baby corn ( i hogged it all). I was scooping the curry onto other items because it was nice and spicy. I probably wolfed down over half the plate myself. The last of the dishes was definitely not my favorite was the crab and shrimp fried rice. At $18 I know isn't a lot, but I felt like there wasn't much crab at all. I understand it's expensive, so the shredded bits were scattered about the dish. If you look in my photo you really can't see crab at all even if you squint and turn your head sideways. I've been to quite a few place for crab and shrimp fried rice for either the same price or less and have seen more crab. I suggest instead of shredding the crab just adding it as a few small lumps on top of the rice so we can see and actually taste it. The shrimp were big so that was a plus, but the dish was a bit sweet. Which wasn't an issue, just surprising I suppose. It actually reminded me of the Hawaiian fried rice from Tongs kitchen! If that sweet savory rice is your thing you'll love it !! It was pretty good. It made a lovely side. I especially liked it with the green curry. I don't think I can stop talking about it. I told my coworkers and now we set a date to come by and eat together. If you want a nice intimate family dinner with big portions at reasonable prices, I highly suggest this place!! Came in here since we were around the corner home good shopping. Yelp and looked for close restaurants. Banana Thai was our first choice but probably the best choice. The food is very authentic and very flavorful. The Tom Yum soup is the best that I have had in Houston. The larb pork was absolutely like I got in Bangkok, Drunken noodle was yummy, Spicy basil red snapper was good flavor. The service was friendly and very timely. We will be back often! read more
