    Salmon Roll and Calamari

My fiance has always spoken so highly of Rim Tanon. We've gotten takeout from there which is always so good, but I was excited to go in person! The cocktails were delicious and tons to choose from. My fiance got the pumpkin curry with beef which was to die for, the ultimate comfort food. I got the spring restaurant week menu which was a good deal, two courses for $25. I got the salmon roll and the spicy red snapper. The salmon roll was very good and I'm not a cream cheese person. The spicy red snapper was also very good as well! The service was great and the ambiance was fun and fresh.

The food was incredible, especially the limeade drink. I really enjoyed the crispy pad Thai I thought it kept the original integrity of the dish while still spinning its concept enough to be unique to other establishments. I drink a lot of water, so the waiters having constant refills was much appreciated. The service was excellent, and my waiter, Sujittra Y, was very accommodating and made me feel valued.

Fast service and lots of good options! The appetizers I got (fried squid and chive pancakes) were my favorite part. I was really underwhelmed by the pad see ew unfortunately ):

I finally got to experience Rim Tanon's delicious Glory. I appreciate it that the service was fast and very attentive. The Ambiance was laid back and relaxed. There's plenty of parking to get into the three different restaurants. The food here is fresh and reminded me of my trip back to Thailand. Overall it was a wonderful experience and their drinks were strong and refreshing as well. Definitely a cozy spot to go for a date or just to go with a good friend and have great conversations.

A will established Thai restaurant here in Houston as they have been open for 8 years as of this review was published and they emphasize on Thai street food and alcohol. The place is handicap friendly, they do have a ramp to go up into the restaurant on the side and they have hand rail at the front door steps. It is like a party ambiance in the restaurant. If you are in the area and want great Thai food or a fun night out, this is the spot for you.

Out of the several Thai places I've tried in Houston, Rim Tanon doesn't quite reach the standard that other places have met. I must qualify that statement by saying I've heard the curry was good here, but I got drunken noodles anyway - perhaps my rating would change with a different entree. The drunken noodles were quite oily (and the oil tasted old) and without much flavor. The texture of the noodles were still good, but they didn't quite make up for the overall lacking taste. The fun atmosphere and the quick and mild service did add to my overall experience however. For dessert, I got the Thai style shaved ice with half and half of the green and red sauce. They didn't taste too different to me, but perhaps I was distracted by the variety of toppings in it, especially the corn (can't say I loved corn in my shaved ice but that's just my opinion!). It was fun to eat but I probably wouldn't get this again. Overall, I enjoyed Rim Tanon and I'd come back to try another dish for sure!

Been here a few times and it hasn't let me down yet.. I've enjoyed the presentations and food. Vibe here seems casual but still intimate, you can be pretty close to another table so often you're overhearing conversations but it does add to the lively atmosphere. No reservations here as it's a first come first serve on tables and it can get busy.. Ordering/checkout is all fairly efficient. Got to try alot of the appetizers the first time from the papaya salads to the skewers. All were pretty delicious. I've enjoyed the khao soi here recently as the broth was rich and savory, the crispy noodles were a great textural contrast.. I did try some the pumpkin curry my friend got and it had a quite a kick for only a medium spice level. I did enjoy the presentation with little bowls filled with fixings to add in. Many of their modern take on traditional Thai dishes will start at Mild spice level, but you can go higher to medium or high.. The parking is very tight and shared with other bars/restaurants in the area so you may have to go more street if busy. There's some happy hour options available but the entrees are the main draw here. Overall, I consider this to be one of the best Thai places in Houston. Good spot for date night or a fun gathering with friends. Definitely worth a visit!

Met up with a friend at Rim Tanon in upper Kirby! I've been here many times now and it has hit every time. We started off with the chive pancake as an appetizer. I had this before and remembered really liking it. It has a unique texture. It has a crispy exterior since it's pan fried but the inside is soft and chewy. The spicy black soy sauce that comes with it is good too, it's thick and pretty rich. For my main I got the shrimp pad see ew. The stir fried flat rice noodles had a nice wok flavor as well as a rich and sweet flavor from the dark soy sauce. I love how the eggs are in chunks and the shrimp was very good as well. My friend got the pad thai. It was good as well and was unique with the egg wrap but I still like the stir fried flat rice noodles more

Fireeeeeee. Pad see ew noodles were perfectly chewy. Friend ordered beef noodle soup, I believe, which tasted pretty much like pho. Split skewers which were tasty. One thing I will NOT recommend is the Thai style shaved ice - tasted like bubblegum. But the warm ube dessert is delish

There is no shortage of Thai eateries in the inner loop but few are as popular and as well regarded as Rim Tanon, located in the heart of Upper Kirby. Many Thai folks I've known have regarded this as one of the city's best contemporary Thai options and I would be hard pressed to disagree. One of their most memorable traits is having a wooden replica Thai style building, complete with abundant outdoor seating, a group friendly layout, and a bustling Thai speaking staff that can get overwhelmed night in and out. The ambiance is vivacious at times and chaotic during other days. I've learned not to call in during these peak service hours and would recommend ordering from their website instead. The wait times can be long during their busiest nights and thus the dedicated waiting area in the lobby is clutch. They consider their food to be modernized Thai and the flavors are on point. The standouts for the starters would be their satey ($10) and salmon rolls ($9). THe latter is so good that I'd consider ordering it every time. I would also consider ordering a soup, be it tom yum ($9-10) or their "light soup" ($9-10). Their papaya salad is a bit paltry at $12, but there is a spice kick that definitely hits, which is in all the salad options. While I don't love the portions for the crabmeat omelet ($18) or pad kaphrao ($15), I do appreciate the heat from any of their curries, especially the panang and massaman curry ($15-17). The khao soi gai ($17) was a nice surprise and the pad see ew ($15-17) was quite good. Pad thai ($18) lovers may find the noodle dish a tinge sweet, but the chili powder and lime cut through it quite well. Beware of the parking, which is a dedicated lot but a tight squeeze in every corner. Big cars should stay home. Group dining sessions should be reserved ahead of time and this is definitely ideal for a casual lunch or dinner date. An ambiance suggestion: I do hope they consider rocking some kind of Thai pop (#1) instead of the ad-laden trendy music that tends to get airtime. It's awkward to listen to elevator beats before it turns into a random Geico commercial. ___________ (#1) May I suggest some Ploychompoo or Tata Young?

Anything you get 5/5 the food service and area are all great. Place is clean. Would definitely come back.

    Spicy Red Snapper

My bff loved papaya salad and grilled pork skewers here. We added Pad Kee Mao and Spicy Red Snapper to our lunch order. Grilled pork skewers are authentic and delicious. Papaya salad is also very good and refreshing. The Lao version has Pla Ra which gives it a bit more umami. It's not overpowering and quite well balanced. But if this is something you are not accustomed to you might want to try Thai version instead. Pad kee map is pretty good but not above and beyond for me. I do like fresh peppercorns.

Great food with good ambience. We sat out on the patio and definitely felt the Texas heat beating down on us. The tofu pad se ew was tasty and the red curry was flavorful as well. Wasn't a huge fan of the chive pancakes but I'd be willing to give them another try. They also had delicious drinks (not pictured) that I'd certainly come back for as well

There's a sign-in sheet. While we waited, we took a look at their two-aisle mini store, which is in the same room as the restaurant. We bought some interesting snacks and looked at the menus until we were messaged. Once we sat down, we shared fried tofu and chive cakes. They were amazing. The fried tofu was evenly crispy with a soft, piping-hot fluffy inside. (The sauce doesn't contain any fish sauce, since one of us was vegetarian.) The chive cakes were both crispy and mochi-like. I had the Thai iced tea and pompano fish. The staff scared us about the spice level, so we all started off with mild and a small variety of chili sauce, oil, and powder on the side. The ones who changed their minds to mild actually used them. So now we know that if you like medium spicy, go with the second-lowest level. I was fine with mild and ate my whole fish. Loved it. Our waitress was quick, but the kitchen... not so much. We all ended up eating at different times because we didn't want anyone's dishes to get too cold while waiting for the rest to come to the table. By the time my dish came, the first two main dishes were already finished (rice and noodle-based), and the third dish (curry) had already been at the table for a while. I also noticed another table that sat after us got all of their dishes (noodles and rice) before my dish came. The food timing needs some work. If you want a quick meal, I think their rice and noodles are the fastest. But the pompano fish was amazing. If you know how to debone a fish or eat one with bones, get this dish. There's free parking out front and in the grassy lot next to it.

My husband ordered his dish at a spice level 4 (their highest spice level), but felt it wasn't quite as spicy as expected, so keep that in mind if you like a lot of heat. The portions were very generous, and we definitely had leftovers. The kids' chicken fried rice was a huge portion and was surprisingly good. We also enjoyed the mango sticky rice for dessert--it was a great way to end the meal. It could easily reach that level. Our waitress, Ann, was incredibly kind, soft spoken, and welcoming. My friend Sherita suggested this restaurant after we left a Yelp office hour, and I'm so glad she did because it introduced me to something I never knew I needed: the salmon mango fried rice. It was absolutely amazing. I originally planned to take some home for my son to try, but it was so delicious that I finished every bite in one sitting. Sherita had visited earlier in the week and tonight shared that she arrived; right before I walked in which was 30 minutes before closing time, Jackie told her to hurry up and order, even though she already knew exactly what she wanted and didn't even need a menu. Jackie response was unprofessional and didn't even wait till the table guest got to the table, which was less than seconds since we all arrive at the same time, and left the same place. During our visit, Jackie never brought us water. A couple who was seated after us received water before we did. It took over 10 minutes for us to get water. Ann took great care of us, but anytime we wanted a refill, we had to ask. At one point my glass was completely empty. I noticed Jackie refilling the water glasses for a table of six, so I managed to get his attention. He looked directly at me, scanned the room, then stomped away all fast without acknowledging my request. Instead, he told Ann that we wanted water, and she graciously brought it over. Even at the end of our meal, Jackie stood behind the register while my friends waited to pay, yet another employee ended up taking their payment. His overall energy felt very cold and unwelcoming. My friend even joked that it was probably for the best that he didn't refill my water because of the energy he was carrying. As someone who believes water absorbs energy, I honestly agreed. I'm grateful Ann was the one who served us with such kindness. The restaurant itself has such a peaceful, zen atmosphere. The greenery outside and the warm lighting inside create a cozy neighborhood spot that I truly want to love and revisit with my son. Thank you , Sherita for introducing me and Aaliyah to this hidden gem. I completely understand why you visited twice in one week. I'll definitely be back to explore more of the menu, and hopefully next time the hospitality matches the quality of the food.

Naturally, we had high expectations. Knowing dinner service can get busy, we decided to order takeout instead today. We called ahead and were told our order would be ready in about 20 minutes. We arrived a little early and didn't mind waiting. However, after about 30 minutes had passed, we asked the host for an update since we had only ordered THREE items. They checked with the kitchen and told us it would be another 15 minutes. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. After waiting for OVER AN HOUR (1hr 20min to be exact), we finally received our food. They offered us a Thai tea for our troubles, but honestly, I would have preferred receiving my food in a reasonable amount of time rather than a complimentary drink. If the restaurant is too busy to handle takeout orders, then perhaps takeout shouldn't be offered during those times. Customers ordering takeout shouldn't be treated as a lower priority simply because they're not dining in. We paid for the same food and deserved the same level of service. This was an extremely disappointing experience. Even if the food had been outstanding, the overall experience would make me hesitant to return. Unfortunately, this visit did not live up to the expectations we had. And in case you think this is a fake review, our takeout order was from today (6/23/26) under James (my bf).
