We went here for our anniversary dinner on Thursday so that we can watch their Thai show. The decor is beautiful outside, the dining area, bar, the way to the bathroom, and also the bathroom. We were given hot towels to wash our hands at our table. Their menu is on the tablets that they bring to you. Since it was happy hour until 6:30, we ordered appetizers (corn fritters and papaya salad) and cocktails (hua hin mango, mystiny, and nakorn kopi). We also ordered Esan pork ribs, crispy garlic chicken (similar to General Tso's), Majestic Ocean Medley, and mango sticky rice. They also provided a mini-pandan cake to celebrate our anniversary. Loved it here! I have been IG stalking it for quite sometime and finally gathered the crew to make it happen to celebrate a birthday. Ryan was great and then Lynn came along when things got busy to help out so we never felt neglected! This was an amazing experience. We went for happy hour which was not busy at all for a Friday. But as the night got later, the crowd grew. Fun fact the art here is from Thailand. The owner had to get permission to be able to display it here. It was so beautiful. The drinks! Hip, fun Thai restaurant in the Upper Kirby area. Light crowd so service was very attentive. The food presentation was creative and fun and ultimately delicious. My only critique would be their wine presentation. Not a big offering, more cocktails than wine selections. And very disappointing was their wine pour. They use a carafe system to measure wine for the pour and unlike many similar restaurants, they filled the carafe to about ¾ resulting in a much smaller pour than I normally experience with carafe pours. Their wine glasses were beautiful however, which for us wine snobs is important. Overall I recommend. I will visit again and will attempt to advocate for a more generous pour. read more

On our continued hunt for the perfect brunch buffet, we stopped in to check this place out. It was giving VIP from the start with the red carpet and grand door. The atmosphere is elaborate in the most amazing way. Gold and red cover the interior with so much attention to detail. Restrooms are clean and have individual towels to dry hands. They even had a utensil holder in the shape of a dragon to match the decor. We opted to order à la carte: Apps: crab bites and curry flight w/roti Entrees: Drunken noodles and Crispy Garlic chicken. Some of my favorites: Apps: The Curry Carnival, Thai-Kick Chicken, mussels, and savory cones are all fantastic. If you're with a group, the Symphony is a must--it lets you try a bit of everything and comes out in a beautiful presentation. Classics: You really can't go wrong with any of the noodle dishes, but the drunken noodles are easily a top pick. The fried rice and beef massaman curry are also consistently delicious. Signature Dishes: The Majestic Ocean Medley is hands-down my favorite, and the short ribs in the curry hot stone are just as impressive. Dessert: The coconut ice cream is always a safe (and satisfying) choice, but it's worth asking about their specials too. November 29, 2025 Drove in from Galveston JUST to get the cotton candy tree dessert!! But the menu was so enticing that we stayed for lunch. The attention to detail in EVERYTHING from decor to utensils was spot on. We had chicken fried rice, these sautéed potatoes w/carrots and onions shaped like cones, Thai basil chicken with serrano peppers.... ALL OF IT was so flavorful and delicious. Enjoyed it. I've had Makiin on my list of places to go but never realized how close it was to my office! My co-worker took me here for my birthday lunch and she literally called 10 minutes before for a reservation and a table to celebrate my birthday lunch. When we arrived, we were greeted and escorted to our table that had a cute sign saying "happy birthday vicky!" It was so personal and I appreciate all the effort! we ordered 4 dishes to share between the 2 of us, and we also asked the waitress for her recommendations as well. Everything we got was delicious and we definitely over ordered, so I took the rest home. For dessert I wanted the cotton candy dessert with a chocolate tree and they wrote "happy birthday" on it for me. There was so many cool parts of the dessert like the lychee ice cream and cotton candy, and sorbet pieces and the chocolate tree trunk. I would love to order it again next time I come! This place is hands down The Best restaurant! Each of their dishes, starting from appetizers to dessert, is so meticulously curated and presented. Each of their dishes that we tried were insanely delicious. Additionally, their presentation of the dishes were top notch too. Such unique and beautiful display! We went there to celebrate my birthday, and they provided a pretty happy birthday sign board. Also, gave a complimentary dessert. Someone from their staff, may be the manager, checked in on us, making our experience really warm and inviting. As for food, the sampler appetizer was bomb! Both taste wise and display! Kong thai soup was so well balanced with mild taste of sour and savory. Chicken fried rice and lobster curry were amazingly delicious and has such unique taste. Nikki, #1 in service! Makiin is an experience everytime. This time I tried out the lunch buffet instead of ordering off of the regular menu. There was a coconut milk based soup, very delicious, chicken dumplings, pumpkin chicken curry, brussel sprouts, purple rice, fried rice, calamari and shrimp a very nice variety for lunch. This is one of the best premier thai restaurants here in Houston! I got the chance to try MaKiin this past weekend and it was nothing short of an amazing experience! I came here with two of my friends to try out their buffet selection. They had a great variety of dishes out, from curry's and soups, rice, seafood, and lots more. It's well thought out as the buffet trays don't actually hold a lot of food -- they run out quickly but are replaced with fresh batches just as fast. Service was great, staff made sure our waters were full and were able to give us good guidance on some of their menu items. We opted for a Mango Sticky Rice and some cotton candy tree dessert-- they were both presented beautifully but I was more partial to the mango sticky rice myself. The space itself isn't super big, so I can imagine it filling up fast on a busy weekend. We went for brunch at around noon on Sunday and it was relatively quiet, albeit it was raining a bit this day. If you're in the area and are willing to spend a bit more on a good meal this place is worth your dollar! read more

Winner winner, thailicious dinner!!! We did the all-you-can-eat thai buffet offered at MaKiin (wed- sun 11:30-3p only). Their Buffet lines consists of 10 rotating thai dishes including, curries, beef steak stir fry, braised eggplants, and more. They don't overstock the trays so that freshly cooked food are periodically and frequently refilled. The host and staff are very quick to get you started. There's plenty of room, tables, and seating. You're sure to find at least a few things that you'll like! Come hungry, leave stuffed. Their dessert options are separate from the buffet, but you do get a small discount for some of them if you order them on top of the buffet. Creme Bruleé is an all time favorite!! The torched caramel layer is done to perfection. The strawberries at a refreshing pallate cleansing experience as well as the lemongrass tea served on the side. Mango sticky rice met all expectations. The rice was glutiness and not too chewy, yet holds together very well. The Ube ice cream was the most dynamically visual dessert piece of the three that we had. The visuals speak for themselves. Flavor-wise, the Ube ice cream was adequate, nothing to write home about but presentation was superb! Everything we had at MaKiin felt ELEVATED!!! I hope their business continues to thrive. We came here for a few birthday celebrations. There were six of us total, and we were actually really excited to try this new place in Houston. I think that this restaurant is very beautiful in it's conception. The service is wonderful, accommodating, and kind. Management is thorough, customer focused, and considerate...However, the food is just okay. The main issue I have is that everything on the menu has such an exquisitely beautiful presentation but the taste is not fully there. We tried so many different things and I can't list any thing that made a major impact at all. I do want to come back and try different menu items just to see if there's something that is noteworthy on the menu. I'm happy to see another beautiful restaurant in Houston thrive, but we definitely need more restaurants that have menu items that are pallet-pleasing and not just aesthetically-pleasing. I had a double date here on Sunday late night around 9 PM. Because we had a long day, we didn't think to actually dress up for this and wore casual with long jeans, but they still let us in. But the ambience of this place will make you feel like you need to dress up. It's low lighting, wonderfully decorated. There is a DJ with Lofi vibes. And if you RSVPed with a small message, they have a little sign on your table. As for food they were all amazing like it's really hard to just point one out and be like this is what you should get. They're also very accommodating to vegetarian vegan diets, which was the biggest reason why we came here as one of our friends has a strict dietary restriction. The beef and chicken curry (not pictured), Thai comfort, and the drunken noodles are super amazing . The overall spice level was like 1-3 out of 10. I would put their basic as mild compared to other Thai places so if you like spicier flavors , please let them know that. My favorite appetizer was the Thai thigh kick and that one was the spiciest with 3 out of 10. The other two were OK but the one with bread it's like a foreshadow of the main curry dishes. Unfortunately, I think there was a change of shifts with our waitress/ waiter so there was some confusion about dishes, there was a small spill, and one of the dishes tofu didn't feel like it was all the way cooked. But everything else was amazing. Not only the food but also the anesthetics . the staff looks like they're very use to taking photos for you and every wall has a wonderful background. The tables and chairs are very steady. The chair is not easy to move around, but I like how big it is so you could like fit your purse there or your coat. Overall, I would come here again. Makiin kept popping up into my life like I was destined to go there. Social media, anecdotes and recommendations. After many postponements and schedule changes, I finally made it there. The sings were right! From the ornate door greeting you, to the low lit elegant interior, the experience was smooth and elevated from the start. The staff were extremely attentive and asked about special occasions, returning with a personalized sign. They also took time to explain flavor profiles and nuances of the drinks and dishes based on palate preferences and pointed out that happy hour was still ongoing. These details made the dining experience so much more. And allowed for true enjoyment of the spectacular dishes. I had the harn blue gem, the famous diamond drink, and it lived up to the hype. It was beautiful and refreshing, sparkling inside and out. The crab pastries, watermelon salad and calamari were also delicious, being familiar yet more elevated than previous versions I have tried. I loved my main course of the salmon. It went so well with the curry and rice and the portion size was extremely generous. The crème brûlée was also unique, and the candy floss chocolate tree was epic and tasty! The complementary strawberry sorbet was also a nice touch! The service is amazing, the workers are so incredibly nice and made celebrations feel classy and special - my main qualm is with the food and the buffet. $30 to choose between 2 types of fried rice, a stir fried noodle dish and a small selection of soup/salad/appetizer is a little ridiculous and definitely not worth it when I compare it to being close to the same price as AYCE Kbbq or Sushi.
