C2. Chicken Katsu
Kiet L.

The food was ordered for a large group of 24 that included chicken Katsu, bbq beef, crab rangoons, Mac salad, and several cakes (tiramisu, strawberry, and mango). It was a hit and everyone loved it. Nothing was left except for an abundance of white steamed rice that came with the order. Hawaiian Mac salad is nothing like American Mac salad and I had to convince people to try it. Once they did; they became fans. The cakes were nothing spectacular for the price point. They honesty reminded me of the cakes at Chinese buffets. Other than that. They food was good.

Great restaurant, amazing staff and management team. I have eaten here several times and the food is always amazing. The location stays busy and they offer fast and friendly service. Beyond their food, they have a pay it forward program that allows people to prepay for meals and for someone in need to come in for a free meal. Very admirable and makes me want to support the business even more.

The staff was great, very hospitable, I should have gotten his name. The food came in togo boxes which I think is ingenious! I wish other places did this. The servings were large enough to take home, though the food was so good, I wish I could have eaten all of it in one sitting. Chicken was tender-meat was very flavorful. Looking forward to my leftovers!

I saw this place on yelp and decided to try it for lunch. I walked in and was promptly greeted. I decided to try the bbq beef which came with rice and macaroni salad. Everything was delicious!! The beef was so tender and tasty. The macaroni salad was my favorite. Ill definitely be back and definitely recommend this restaurant

This place really hit the spot. I was looking for some authentic Hawaiian bbq since I haven't had it since Maui. Chicagoland area doesn't really produce any good ones. It's located in a strip mall with ample parking. When you walk in, you order from the counter, then you sit down, and they bring it out for you. We got the family meal that feeds 4-6. It comes with white rice, macaroni salad, crab rangoon, and you select 3 kinds of meat. We chose bbq chicken, kalua pork, and kalbi short ribs. We also got spam musubi. Service was excellent. The staff was really nice and attentive. Bbq chicken was flavorful and tender. Very little chew. Kalua pork was moist and bursting with flavor after that first bite. Highly recommend. Kalbi short ribs was perfectly cooked and juicy. Spam musubi you have to eat it together because spam itself is salty. The rice and seaweed evens out the saltiness. Prices were fair for the amount of food.

I had a pretty good experience at aloha Hawaiian BBQ. Food was good, service was great, and portions were sizable. I got the Hawaiian bbq and chicken katsu. The flavors were very good, but the beef felt a bit over cooked. I especially liked the special katsu curry sauce. The macaroni salad was also pretty good Also - the spam musubi was a highlight! It had a unique flavor that really grew on me. This was really fun to try. Service was really phenomenal here. Our food came out super fast & the workers were all very nice and personable. The actual shop itself was decent inside. It was a bit small, but had some nice decorations. Overall, I'd recommend stopping in here - I had a good experience & it was fun to try some new cuisine :)

Located on 1960, this Hawaiian restaurant provides exceptional service, quality food, and big portions. As soon as we entered, we were greeted and given great detail about the menu. The prices are reasonable as well, especially for the amount of food you get. If you're looking for a restaurant with one of the best chicken katsu in town, this is the place to go.

You come in and right away your welcomed and let me tell you the soothing Hawaiian music is just right for the ambiance. Menu is very extensive: we ordered the garlic shrimp combo, Hawaiian bbq mix, lumpia, crab rangoon and guava drink! Oh almost forgot, I also ordered Thai tea.. The smell is so good!! Great service

It's been a long time since I've tasted a Chicken Katsu sauce that reminded me of my time in Hawaii. Thankfully the rest of the food did not disappoint either! This was a to go order for a small family get together and it not only made my wife and I extremely happy but also my cousin who reminisced about her honeymoon in Hawaii as well. The macaroni salad was superb as was all of the meat we ordered. The only thing I was not particularly fond of was the Crab Rangoon but I still ate a few pieces. This is the best Hawaiian I've had in the states since leaving Hawaii in '04. Whenever we pass through Houston again, we will be eating here.

Why 5 stars? Because this was the most "hit-the-spot" meal I've had in a long time. --- --- --- We were in the area doing something with our son and were on the hunt for where we'd be going to dinner after. I'd gotten up early that morning to play basketball, so I was in the kind of zone where I felt like I could eat the entire inventory of whichever restaurant we chose. We ended up here and I'm so glad we did. Whenever at a Hawaiian restaurant, it's hard for me to choose anything other than the Kalbi (short ribs). It came with white rice and macaroni salad. Every bite was perfect. I became happier and happier with each bite. There was some kind of dipping sauce that came with it, which was awesome to drizzle on top of the rice. We also ordered some spam musubi and some POG juice to wash it all down. All of it was great. I would be one of their best customers if this place was not 45ish minutes from my house. The owner/manager told me they had been in business for 7 years, which shocked me because they only had 51 reviews as of our visit. Support this place, people of Northwest Houston!

I have been coming here for a couple of years and love everything about the place! All the food is delicious and fresh, and I highly recommend the bbq dishes and the curry. The Aloha juices are all delicious and a little sweet but a great addition to the savory food they serve. The staff are all very friendly and you can tell they want everyone to enjoy themselves. The place may look like just a hole in the wall, but its cozy island vibe is warm and fun.

Great food great service. Gotta try their Katsu. Very clean establishment and I can't stress enough how great the food is.

We came wanting to try something different than what we usually eat, and we're excited to try this new place. We ordered the short ribs, pulled pork, and garlic shrimp. The short ribs, and garlic were pretty good. Everything needed a bit more salt. I didn't like the flavor of the pulled pork and it was too dry and overcooked.

Their selection of meats and sides is really above average compared to a lot of places. Every side I've tried here I've actually liked. They use Martin's bread, and they'll give you your accoutrements like pickles, escabeche, and the like. If you like those, make sure you ask for extra up front -- there's no stand to go grab them later, so you've got to get them when you go through the line. Large seating area with many large tables and a full service bar. The seating does get a little filled up when they are busy. I suggest coming early and being in line before doors open. Brisket: 4.5/5 Sausage: 5/5 Turkey Brest: 5/5 Escabeche & picadillo sides:5/5 Barbecue sauce: 4.5/5 Tater tot casserole:5/5 Mac & cheese:4/5 It's pretty consistent -- out of all the times I've been, there was only once where I was a little let down by the brisket. But in general it's top notch, probably the best you're going to get in Houston. Would recommend and return.

A 2-year Michellin star BBQ joint was a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon. My friends and I got there around 10am and were lucky enough to grab a number. The number secures your spot in line but don't worry if you show up and they run out, there's a spot on the porch where the non-number line starts. We ordered moist brisket, garlic sausage, and the beef rib. For sides, we went with mac and cheese and beans. Everything was superb! The brisket melted in your mouth, no knife needed. The sausage had a nice snap to it and get great flavor. The bark on the beef rib was *chef's kiss*. The mac and cheese was creamy while the beans had a nice sweet and tangy flavor. The service is also great! While we were eating, staff would regularly check all of the tables to check if anyone needed anything. The staff taking our order also chatted with us about other BBQ spots we've been to. Everything was such a great experience and the quality of the food is 100/10!

All of the employees were very friendly and helpful. My fiancée is a lover of BBQ so he wanted to order almost everything on the menu. We ordered brisket, garlic sausage, pork ribs, the whole chicken, baked beans, Mac and cheese, and apple cobbler. My favorites were the pork ribs and apple cobblers. His favorites were the ribs, brisket, cobbler, and baked beans. I loved the cobbler so much I placed an additional order to go.

We were looking forward to trying this restaurant while staying at a hotel in Houston for medical treatments. We had it delivered to our hotel and sadly it wasn't the best experience. When we got our order to the room we were missing one side that we ordered. We got Mac n cheese, green beans and potato salad with a brisket/smoked chicken combo and a brisket/ribs. I was shocked to see two pieces of brisket and a chicken breast for $28. Maybe it was an off night but the quality just wasn't there. All the food was cold (our fault bc we ordered it for delivery) and was lacking flavor. My partner had the brisket sandwich with potato salad and a small helping of pickles and pickled red onions and I had the pulled pork tacos. My partner said the brisket sandwich was okay, but we both agreed that the potato salad was fantastic! The potato salad was way better than the one at Pappas Barbecue. The taste of the pulled pork tacos was great, but it was honestly too wet and made the flour tortillas too soggy and there was way too much coleslaw on top. I feel like if Killen's is going to serve pulled pork tacos there needs to be three things done. 1. Serve the tacos with an option of corn tortillas because I feel corn tortillas would've worked better to give a great contrast/pairing with the sweetness of the pulled pork and sauce. 2. Serve the corn/flour tortillas on the side so that they don't get soggy and wet. 3. There are some things that just don't belong on a taco of any kind and that's coleslaw. My partner and I also tasted the banana pudding and to say it was divine is an understatement. What I really like about this pudding was that you could taste real bananas in this pudding and it had been mixed well all together. Our total was $80 after tipping, which is a little pricey for some of the items, but honestly I would definitely come back to Killen's Barbecue when I was in the mood for barbecue.
