Visiting Bandera wouldn't be complete without visiting the General store. It is a historical building. When you walk in to the right they have like the old diners seating area where you can order a treat. From ice cream to Sundays to floats... they have it all! I ordered a Coca Cola float. It really hit the spot in this heat! The store itself has all kinds of goodies from souvenirs... to candies... salsas... The girls were friendly. What a cool store!! We didn't even get to look at everything because it was a hot day and even in the store it was hot. Once the weather cools we will go back! But.. to start off.. walk in the door and they have a counter you can sit to enjoy some of their delicious ice cream. We got a scoop of blackberry cobbler. They have everything from the old fashion wooden rubber band guns to Coon hats. Boots, shirts, jewelry and all kinds of cool toys. Books, knifes, shot glasses, pretty much any little trinket you could want. They also have local salsas and jams, seasons and nut butters to sample. The young lady working was very sweet. Many websites say" Bendera General Store is an icon of the world capital of the cowboys". I just stopped by. Luckily, I found one parking spot in front of the store. I went inside. I saw a lot of souvenirs that were super expensive. I was thinking about the ice cream. It was $8. If I could go to a Dollar General store, the ice cream is $1! LOL. I just took a selfie here! We stopped for the ice cream and was a treat! Lots to choose from banana splits to sundes or maybe a nice scoop of rockyroad. The ice cream is good quality and the staff is friendly. Souvenirs and candy treats can be found through the store. Historic building built over 100 years ago and used to be the Old Cox Dance Hall. Original floors and ceilings gives that old time rustic feel. Great spot on a hot day to cool your heals and enjoy some treats. Stop by Bandara the Cowboys capital of the world and see the shops on main and the historic places and stop by the Bandara General Store. read more

Stopped here during a recent visit. Nice store with fun stuff for the kids. The reason for the one star is that my son was looking at a spinning top, trying to figure out how to make it work. One of the ladies working came over and very nicely explained to him how it works so he could see it in action. She walked off and he did it once to see it. As soon as he did it, a second woman with gray braids in her hair walked up and said, "we won't be spinning this, ok?!" She was very rude, like she was reprimanding her own child, with me standing there, and right after the other woman showed him how to do it!!! We put all our stuff back and left. No need to spend my money in a place that treats customers like that. read more

Fun little tourist trap with all the usual goodies one finds at a Texas souvenir shop. The thing we liked best and what we ended up getting were the walking sticks. Hub got a nice one of local wood. I got one that was turned on a lathe. Come to find out, it was from the owner's private collection. He got it in London. He had the full story on it. I loved visiting with him and talking about the store. Take some time to drop in and chat. It's a good time. read more

We stopped by all the little shops (highly recommended) in Bandera during our visit and this was my favorite. Very friendly staff with a great selection of tourist gifts, candies, boots, necessities, and even an old fashioned ice cream parlor.  Enjoy the unique signs and decor.
