Its a simple little bar and store. Good food and good beer. A lot of family's come in, super casual and in the evening it turns into a local favorite saloon. There is a dart board and sit down bar. When I walked in the first time I got some looks most likely because I am a person of color, Not saying it is a racist type of place but it is a predominately Caucasian country type of place named Adolph. Whom by the way works behind the bar. But I held my own and had a great time all the same. Its a low key kinda place and everyone there is a local.. On a Sunday afternoon, it wasn't quite as impressive as they let on. For one, like a previous reviewer we were scrutinized by everyone in the place when we walked in; and we're not "people of color" but a typical four-person family. As there didn't appear to be anyone directing where to sit, we just grabbed a table. A nice waitress did acknowledge us and was at our table with menus and silverware shortly afterward, and she did a great job keeping our drinks topped off. The menu is pretty limited but we were all able to find something that interested us. Getting our food was slow as also previously mentioned, but this is one of those places were none of the customers seem to be in any rush. Overall our meals were good, not great but not bad either. My son liked the french fries a lot, and said he cheeseburger was "OK." I had the chili which while flavorful it did appear to lack anything beyond ground beef (no beans, tomatoes or onions that I could detect; and no cheese on top at all). The grilled cheese sandwich my other son had was actually pretty good despite looking burnt (oddly though, it wasn't). Overall it's not a place I'd rush back to, but it also isn't a place we'd avoid in the future either. Given the choices in the area, it's probably one of the better ones but don't get your expectations too high! Two things that bothered me were the first 15-20 minutes we were there, there was no music playing whatsoever. Once it came on, it really helped the ambiance of the place! Secondly, smoking is allowed; there was a customer at the bar and another one at one of the tables playing cards that were puffing away. I guess Lakehills isn't one of the many places in Texas that has banned smoking in restaurants or bars. It's been so long since I've seen anyone doing so in an eatery it was a bit of a surprise. While the fans did a good job of displacing the smoke, it was noticeable and not a pleasant addition. If anything, that is more likely to keep us from returning to Adolph's more than anything else. Lastly, calling this place a "store" is a stretch. What used to be a store is now "store-age." It's a bar with tables to eat at. That said, it doesn't have a TABC 51% sign at the door so the majority of its sales are not alcohol.
