This HEB is rather new to Kerrville, having been open only a couple of years or so. I finally hit this spot with my mom last week and was very impressed. The store was super clean and well stocked. All the staff members we encountered were friendly and helpful, as they should be in a native Texan store. This Texas chain has worked hard at having a solid and reliable reputation. Especially impressive were the seafood and produce selections. Everything appeared very fresh and enticingly displayed. I am looking forward to my next visit to this location. read more

HEB #1 This is the location of the FIRST HEB store in the world! Yea, they've expanded it, and added on things, like a barbecue restaurant and a curbside, and gas pumps, but other than that, they still have the same small town feel to the grocer. This place is huge! It takes up a whole city block. It's impressive to see how far HEB has come since 1905, when they opened up on this street corner. The store is visually attractive, with lots of fresh produce, colorful signage, lots and lots of samples! I love hanging out at the Cooking Connection and asking a million questions while getting free samples. This store (as of this writing) is the only one in Texas that sells HEB merchandise, like HEB branded shoes, bandannas, hats, etc. The barbecue restaurant deserves its own review site- it is fantastic. HEB knows their meats- they probably buy more meat than anyone in Texas, which is impressive on its own. They hired a bbq chef with some serious chops to oversee their operation, and it is amazing. Well, I never thought I'd write a review about a grocery store chain but really, we all go to grocery stores to buy food so it's important to talk about it. As far as groceries, they carry all the major brands but their HEB brand food items are just as good or better than some the major brands. I'm talking about dips and chips. Try them out. What I really want to emphasize in this review is the prepared food section. There are meal simple items that are good but today, I saw a guy cooking up noodles and shrimp by the Sushiya kiosk. I asked him if what he was cooking was available for sale and he told me that I could get one by the hot lunch section. I went over there and sure enough, they had one called Teriyaki chicken noodle bowl. It was delicious! It was warm and full of goodness, flat noodles with cabbage, carrots, green onions and sauce that got them all mixed together good. The sliced chicken is just an added protein. I could have eaten the bowl without the chicken. The True Texas BBQ is an addition to the HEB brand that is worth exploring. Last week, I was hungry for BBQ brisket and luckily, my wife and I were at the store around lunch time. I went and ordered a pound of brisket, both lean and fatty. They came in tightly wrapped in butcher paper. It came with 2 sets of a pair of sliced bread in individual plastic bag with a small cup of pickles and fresh onions. This has the making of 2 great tasting BBQ sandwiches! I could not wait to get home. Yes, the meat was that good! I had a good lunch and had enough leftovers for 2 more meals! Also, they will do catering for 10-100 people - according to the bulletin board there. They also have family pack deals and assorted other offers that might be good for folks who want to host a BBQ picnic. For desserts, they have peach cobbler and banana pudding. I tasted their peach cobbler. It's pretty tasty - even without ice cream. Go out there and try their prepared food. It beats cooking that's for sure! read more

Between the horrific parking situation, the rude customer support (I say support with huge sarcastic tags) and other problems, I would recommend go anywhere else. This is my third update. The previous ones were deleted. Don't go there. I've been treated like a criminal, ordered around like a prisoner, ignored and generally treated poorly. That was all before the Pandemic of 2020. It's only gotten worse. Go to the smaller HEB. They still know that customers who are coming in to spend money shouldn't be treated like trash As of July 1, will force people to wear masks, disregarding their moral or personal objections. Terrible store...personal shoppers are a joke...block every single aisle. Couple this with the vendors/employees stocking aisles mid-day and you have a real circus. Front end is always a mess as well. Cannot count how many folks I've seen who's basket locks up exiting the store. Supposedly a shoplifting deterrent but its been a flaw every time I've witnessed it. I rented a carpet cleaning machine yesterday 4.01.22 and encountered Sheila at the "customer service" desk. She was extremely rude, and by the way no one in the store EVER WELCOMES CUSTOMERS....anyway first thing she said in a rude tone was"whadda need". So, they remodeled the bigger of the 2 in town. However, parking is now worse. You have to park super far away. They put in a car entrance that they block and won't let you turn into. There is only 1 big door for entry and exit. So it's like a funnel to get out. There might be more stuff but the experience is NOT GREAT. read more

Came to Kerrville the other day to make preparations for our upcoming move here, checked into our hotel, and headed to HEB to get eats and drinks for the Election Night vigil. But, when we walk in, the store is at most 10% stocked because the new building opens in 3 days. After a 6-1/2 hour drive, we're walking thru an empty store searching for chips and dips, deli items, and maybe a bottle of wine. But nothing, absolutely nothing. So now, we must get back into the car in Kerrville's 5 o'clock traffic and drive over to the other, smaller HEB which is now inundated with folks and pretty damned poorly stocked itself. Not off to a good start here, HEB. We're looking forward to moving to an area served by HEB because we've lived in Houston and Austin, and shopped at them there. And we always stop at HEBs as we travel thru areas of Texas that have them. But yesterday was a disappointment. I dont know the usual method of moving a store to a new location, but it seems that there has to be a better way of doing it than this. Hell, just close the old building down and donate the groceries in it to the local food bank. Thats better than pissing off customers walking into a bare store. read more

I have been shopping at HEB in Kerrville for years and except for 1 person who is always rude to me it has been a good experience. Years ago this person was a checker and I went through her line with my weekly groceries. I handed her coupons at the end and she said "I didn't see this or this or this". I had to go through the bags to find the items. Her attitude was like I was trying to steal something. Fast forward many years, a few more encounters with her to today. she is now at the service desk, I bring in a box of coffee pods I need to exchange because I accidentally got the wrong flavor, I have my receipt. There was a $5 store coupon which I had used and it shows on my receipt. I walk back to get the right box of coffee pods (mind you it's a huge store and I am 72, plus I had already done my shopping) instead of just doing an exchange she rings up the old box then rings up the new box and tells me I owe $5, I tell her I used a $5 store coupon and it should be an even exchange. She says I either owe her $5 or I need to give her a coupon so I limp back to the coffee isle to get her a coupon I had already given when I bought the first box. Luckily the coffee was still on sale or there wouldn't have been any coupons and I would have had to pay the $5. I will never deal with this woman again, I will ask for a store manager. read more

This HEB store does not enforce the mask company policy. In less than five minutes I passed 5 customers not wearing a mask. Despite a HUGE sign at entrance that reads that masks are REQUIRED. It appears this HEB wants to look like they care about their employees and customers, but they really do not. the seafood department has a nice selection but it is never fresh. we have tried several types of fish and shrimp and it always taste very fishy. last time we tried mock fish, we cooked some hoping the smell would goo away, it didn't, we threw the rest away!! i will guess i'll wait to I get to the coast and get fresh fish! I am so tired of the subpar selection at the so-called "big" HEB in this town. They are out of things more often than not, they only carry some things (you have to go to the second HEB in town to get the other things), and they carry their own brand and seldom offer a decent selection of anything else (even though HEBs elsewhere do offer a selection). This is the original HEB, so you'd think there would some pride in making it a decent store. Here it is two days before Christmas, and I sent my husband to get an apple pie (I waited this long because of course I want the pie to be fresh to serve on Christmas), and all they had left in the bakery were small apple pies that were basically burnt. Yep, burnt. They had other kinds of pies running out their ears, and when my husband asked if fresh apple pies would be coming out, he was told, "Nope, that's all we have." Seriously? I shop at HEB Main Street in Kerrville. I am for the most part happy with the products but I have to comment about the Hamburger. They do a sneaky thing with Hamburger. They package it up so it looks fresh in the package ......but once you cut into the hamburger, in the inside you see that they have covered most of the hamburger (that is brown) with the fresh red hamburger on the outside. This is deceptive and should not be tolerated by the store. If they have old meat it should be sold at reduced prices or thrown away if not good. I am very disappointed with this business practice and makes you wonder what other deceptions are in play at this store. read more

What a supermarket should be: big, clean, fully and intelligently stocked, and well lit, with courteous, attentive staff and a broad selection of basic and specialty goods -- and WAY more specialty items than the competition. I see both low- and high-income folks shopping happily here. While prices on gourmet items can be startling sometimes, prices on basics are no worse than WalMart's, and the careful shopper can do very well here indeed. One of the high points is the ready availability of motorized carts, of which there are plenty, always fully charged and in good repair (I wish I could say this for the competition!). You'd think that any store in a city with so many retired and elderly folk would be conscientious about this, but HEB is far and away the best provider of handicapped parking, access, and mobility aids. read more

This store is the original H-E-B grocer. We hope we will get an update to a Marketplace store as in Boerne. This is the main store in a town that has two HEB stores. This is where you find the best produce and the bakery makes the best cakes in town. Good selections of brands including the HEB brands which we like. The wine selection is the best in town. It seems the parking lot could be laid out in a safer way as it is always crowded. More signage would help elderly find their parking location when they complete their shopping. This store is the best we have in Kerrville and people from long distances travel here to buy their groceries. The other thing that makes this store shine is that one doesn't have only three aisles open for checkout. They make sure, if there are a lot of people ready to checkout, to guide you to one of the many checkout lines. The deli serves food during the day and there seems to be ample seating. read more
