What a find in the Vancouver Mall! Not much experienced in Ukranian food but we really liked them! PARKING: Mall parking! No offense to the mall but there was a ton of parking in the late evening. To get to the food court faster, park by the area where the AMC entrance is and the food court is just upstairs. AMBIANCE: It's a mall food court! What else can I say? The restaurant itself is tucked away in the back corner so be sure not to miss it! SERVICE: The workers have always been so friendly. They're patient when we have questions and are always so helpful. I'm assuming they're the owners as well and they really are so proud of their food. FOOD: - Varenyky: Essentially an Ukranian dumpling stuffed with potato and cheese with caramelized onions on top and sides of sour cream and cabbage salad. Now the dumpling itself is not a flavour punch but I don't think it's supposed to be. It was cooked well, the dough was not tough or rubbery and mixing it together with the sides it's like comfort in your mouth. - Hot Dog: This is my personal favourite. I believe it's a pork-based sausage that's topped with their delicious creamy house sauce and topped with pickles carrots and their slaw and it's a pretty decent size and a delicious meal. Comes with chips too. - Borscht: YUM. Chunks of beets and it's the that sweet and slightly sour taste. Dip their bread in it. Trust. OVERALL: Such a random find in the mall! And it tastes NOT like mall food. I've never had Ukranian food before, but I feel like this was a great introduction. Every once in a while you can find a true gem of a restaurant in an unexpected place. And this is one of those times. Banderyky is a Ukrainian restaurant in the Vancouver Mall and the food is so exceptional. This time I had the feta and cheese pastry, the cherry pastry, and this delicious unique soft marshmallow dessert flavored with fruit. Strawberry and blueberry. I wish I had a bigger appetite because I would just order every single thing on the menu if I could. I have to admit I'm not really a beet fan but I love the borscht here. And the cabbage and the chicken dumplings. Truly delicious and well priced too! read more

This is Ukrainian food in the Vancouver Mall Food court. The lady helping me was very nice and patient with me since I didn't know what I was ordering. I got the number 2. The dumplings didn't have much flavor but the cabbage salad(pickled cabbage) made up for it. Just eat it together. I'd come back to try something different. read more

I have had very little Ukrainian food in my life and this may be something that's just not up my alley no matter how well is prepared. I had two chicken crepes and two cabbage rolls with beef. They both seem rather bland and they were all very soft texture. While it was a great thing for my wife and she happily took most of mine home to have for leftovers, I didn't want to finish it and I went and had Chinese food from the place across the hall. They claim to have the best cabbage rolls and if that's something you're looking for I wouldn't doubt them. But this guy doesn't get cabbage rolls so I wouldn't know for sure. We also had a couple of cherry pies and again the texture wasn't right. They were fried but they were. They were not at all crispy. This is one of the cases where happy wife didn't necessarily equate to happy life for me. read more

Take-out counter in the Mall I did not have high expectations, but wanted to try Ukrainian food. Counter staff were friendly and helpful. Food on the other hand, was not my favorite. I ordered a Varenky plate, which was said to be Pierogies. When received, I was expecting fried potato like pierogies, but in actuality were soft, mushy pierogies soaking in a pool of chicken like broth. Glad I stopped by here, nice option to have inside a mall. I got a combo that included Varenyky, Banderyky, Pickled Cabbage Salad and sour cream. The Varenyky is potato and cheese dumplings. These were yummy, the dough wasn't too thick and good amount of filling. The Banderyky is a crepe filled with ground chicken. This is something new to me, it reminded me of a chicken patty but it had a thin crepe covering it. Pretty good. The Banderyky and the Varenyky were topped with some caramelized onions. The pickled cabbages salad wasn't too vinegary, pretty light and refreshing. There's some dill and bell peppers added to it. The portion sizes for the price of the food is good, it's affordable. Today I wanted to try out the new Ukrainian food shop in the Vancouver Mall, and I was so happy they finally opened. We started with two pyrizhok (one with pork and one with beef). The pastry dough was flaky and perfect, and the meat inside was still moist and flavorful but didn't make the pastry soggy. It was delicious. We also got an order of the banderyky, the toasted crepes filled with chicken. These were amazing. They were light and soft, yet very flavorful and delicious with both their house sauce and sour cream. We will definitely be back. Everything is affordable and the staff are super friendly. If you are looking for delicious, homemade food this is the place. A few months ago, I was at the Vancouver Mall and just didn't feel like eating all the usual, greasy options available at the food court. So, I decided to try something new and gave Banderyky a try. I had never had Ukrainian food before and to be honest wasn't even familiar with it but I am so glad I gave it a chance. I honestly can't say enough good things about their food. Everything my husband and I have tried is amazing. We crave it and go out of our way to go get it about once a week. Some stand outs are the chicken soup, all their salads, and their name sake, the banderyky. My husband always gets their cabbage rolls and my kids especially like the chicken cutlet with mashed potatoes and gravy. All this and the service is incredibly friendly. I really wanted to have the potato and cheddar pockets topped with caramelized onions and sour cream with a side of sour kraut, but it was too big for me to eat without someone else to help . The cabbage rolls are yummy . The Prizhok with beef was much more flavorful than expected. Whatever they use to spice the beef is wonderful. The borsht was also very good. Mall food courts are much more interesting than in the past. This place is a good example of that fact. We've been there twice now and had the same thing- the number one and the borscht. These are both vegetarian dishes. I think everything else they offer has meat. I haven't had a lot of versions of this type of food but both times these were quite good. The food was a little lighter than most of the eastern European dishes I have tried. The menu is small, the prices seem reasonable and if you need a break from the usual mall-type fare this is worth checking out. read more
