I scheduled an appointment while visiting from out of state specifically for a brief consult to discuss diabetes treatment options for my cat. I was very clear when booking that I only wanted a consultation, that my cat would not be present, and that my goal was to discuss options and ask questions. After waiting and speaking with a vet tech, I was informed that the doctor refused to speak with me unless I paid for another full exam. This was despite the fact that my cat's condition is well documented in their records and we have been coming to this location for years. I was told that because it was a new doctor, a new exam was required almost as if the records don't exist. To be clear, I am not opposed to an exam at all. However, I went out of my way during a short visit to town specifically for a consult, and this was clearly communicated when the appointment was made. Had I been told upfront that a consult would not be honored without a new exam, I would have planned differently. His previous doctor here was amazing and even took the time to call me and discuss my cat's condition when I was out of state, so I'm very confused about what has changed. I am extremely disappointed by the refusal to discuss treatment options or answer questions, especially when that was the sole purpose of my visit. read more

My family and I took our family senior dog here to send her to doggy heaven. I was in tears before, during, and after - the vet tech Camille and Dr. Shen displayed nothing but patience and empathy towards my family and I. Both of them also assured us we are doing the right thing, as gut wrenching as it was. I never felt rushed or an inconvenience in any way on this busy weekend. It was a very peaceful goodbye. I felt that the pricing here was fair and comparable to other vet's offices for everything including private cremation, wooden box urn and a clay paw print. My baby girls ashes arrived for pick up 2 weeks later. The company they use packages everything up so nicely. Her name was engraved atop the wooden box urn which was placed inside a velvet bag. Her paw print was also carefully packaged inside of a box with her name printed in the clay. Everything was in a sturdy gift bag which included a certificate stating her cremation date and a little booklet about grieving the loss of a pet with phone numbers included. Do not under any circumstances go here for vet care. We brought our cat in for his first general checkup (first pet my wife and I have owned together btw). He is a rescue with some special needs and in addition to a possible ear infection (he was messing with his ears a lot), we also wanted some advice on helping him with his skittish/anxious behavior. The vet tech was respectful and very professional, and somehow managed to calm him down. The vet on the other hand was beyond insensitive. After only a minute with our pet, he said there might not be much we could do to help his mood and behavior, and that some cats just never improve. No exaggeration, he then goes on to say that euthanasia may be the only option for him if he is unhappy. My wife and I were both floored. Are you even listening to yourself?? Our cat is not in severe pain nor are they at all aggressive. Even if he needs more help than other cats, we love him unconditionally and don't expect anything out of him other than to live a comfortable life. Hence the reason we went, since he was beginning to regress back into his anxious ways months after we had gotten him. We don't expect him to be a lap cat, but if there's things we can address such as possible depression then we will. In his current condition, how could you possibly suggest putting him down as an option, on our VERY FIRST vet visit with him? Although we are new to owning our own pet, my wife is experienced with helping special needs and rescue pets - hearing this was devastating for her. On top of that, we basically had to beg him to check our cat's ears, which he kept delaying by saying how expensive it was and that we might as well not treat it because it could be an underlying secondary condition. It turned out to be infected, and we are now treating him with otic antibiotics/antifungals which are making him feel better. So much pushback for our first visit, acting like we are better off without him was just crazy... At the end of the day, I am happy that I was able to get his ears checked and a prescription. He did also suggest a homeopathic calming remedy, which we are going to try before seeking additional help for his anxiety. All-in-all, I was expecting a chaotic visit, but not one that would make my wife cry and make us have to borderline beg for medical care. Do not bring your cat here! I always brought my cat here before and they would do a great job with her. I know my cat can be difficult, however they should know how to handle her especially since she's 14 years old. The last time I brought my cat she had a cut on her foot. I didn't even notice she was walking around with a bandage on her foot for a couple days since she was hiding. Then I tried to take it off and noticed a big cut on her foot. Nobody at Banfield ever said anything about it and tried to say it was from the IV, however her paw was shaved in the front from the IV. Then they claimed I did it when I took off the bandage. I think someone smashed her foot when they closed the cage. The doctor did give me meds and ointment to treat the area when I complained and brought her back. I want to give a big thanks to Dr. Silverman and the staff. Deebo has a kidney issue and she made sure to take care of him and get his levels back to normal. The staff knows me there by now because I go there a lot to grab fluids, and medication for Deebo. I do want to make a point though, I don't like Dr. Shen, he was very rude, always wanted to get off the phone, and he told me to put down my cat, when 2 other doctors said not to. Dr. Shen knew my cat was eating, playing, being normal, he just has bad kidneys. I don't recommend him at all! I have been coming to Banfield for the past year- pretty regularly, as I have a high maintenance doggo. Parking is in very large center so I has never been an issue. The best thing about Banfield is that you can almost always get an appointment quickly- which is great- especially if you're like me and start to worry about your furbaby. My dog has been treated very well and continues to be. Everyone knows him by name and they are always so happy when he comes in. They often request high-fives and he gets lots of pets. Dr Chen has been our primary vet and he's been nothing but helpful and professional. Sometimes my pup does have some anxiety about going/ and when leaving but that is mostly due to very vocal other dogs that I believe triggers a sort of anxiety in my dog- can't do much about that. Overall- I think this place is great and would recommend it to others. read more

Moved to the area with my two pups and was looking for a local vet to help with preventative care and vaccinations. Booked an appointment for July 28th, 2023 at Banfield Imperial for both dogs and specified they are overdue on vaccinations and preventative care but specifically needed prescription for flea medication and are trying to get prescription fulfilled by Chewy for Nexguard (we've tried other flea medications for our dogs but it never worked). During pick up the nurses told us the vet said they don't usually cover Nexguard, but to put in a request at Chewy. Before pick up a nurse had called to relay that my dogs were ready for pickup and that Emi had a fracture on her tooth. I asked if this was something to be concerned about and she said it's not a major concern at the moment and to monitor her to not chew on anything hard or she might need an extraction. She then tried to tell me the best thing is to consider purchasing their wellness plan (See notes). Went to pick up the pups, paid and left. I followed up with Chewy today (August 01, 2023) asking if they could expedite the prescription to be fulfilled and they said it was in Banfield's court for approval. Received a call from Banfield saying that they rejected the request because they didn't run a heartworm test on either of the pups and this was required for the Nexguard prescription (later told me this is not the case and will fulfill the prescription). I asked if it's typical for Banfield and the vets to not recommend heartworm prevention care for first time visitors and for prevention care. They said they do recommend it but I had specifically rejected the heartworm prevention, but I had done no such thing. The only thing that was relayed to me on the day of the appointment was that this would be a drop off service and that I could drop both dogs off at 10:00 a.m and if I had their rabies record. Now Banfield at Imperial says I can reschedule both dogs for the heartworm test and pay an additional $139.90 for office visits with a possible discount (not including the cost for heartworm testing). Do not take your pet here. Especially if they're a senior or a rescue. We adopted our dog 3 years ago with health conditions- cataracts and a low grade heart murmur. I trusted the staff at Banfield from day 1 and put him on their wellness plan. I told them about his health conditions and gave them all the records from the pound. They told us he couldn't be put under sedation due to the heart murmur for a teeth cleaning or emergency surgery - but other than that he was fine. He has been under their care for 3 years with no perceived problems. We took him to a new groomer and they asked for medical clearance from a vet to groom him, called banfield and was tossed around to several locations before one vet could help. The vet said he couldn't get groomed bc of the heart murmur and needed an eco???? This was news to us we have been grooming him for the past 3 years! I asked why I was NEVER informed of this? She did not know and told me to go into the Brea location to speak to a manager. So I did. The manager there informed me there was ONE note from his very first visit recommending an eco 3 years ago. Yea they mentioned it to us.. IF he would need to go under for surgery? And never mentioned it again over the course of 3 years care. We were robbed of any preventive heart care for our senior dog because of their negligence. They never told us his murmur was serious enough he could not be groomed. Every visit here he sees a new vet and I have to reexplain his whole history. The bulk of his treatment here was to help him with itching and the vet didn't even succeed in finding medication to help him. I was the one who suggested and requested the medication he is now on. Not to mention they always have him waiting for HOURS every time he comes here and he gets so anxious in their care. They also cancelled my last wellness visit and never rescheduled and say that I called in to cancel my plan.. which I never did. I asked them for a refund of his plan as I feel like they failed to provide him with adequate care. They refused. The wellness plan may seem like a good value but they FO NOT CARE about your dogs future. They just want dogs in and out. Save yourself the trouble and take your dogs to a real vet. Daisy started going to Banfield in Brea for over 3 years now since we moved to the US. Her last update on her vaccines was on May 20th. 1 week later Daisy stopped eating and vomiting everything we gave her such as treats and some of rice and chicken. She was drinking SO much water and i took her 3 times after that in order to check her blood work. The vet kept on telling me it is dehydration and she was put on IV to get the fluids Daisy needed. I called once and I expressed my concerns to the front desk about how come you always do blood tests and NO xrays or even ultrasounds! The blood tests showed high volume of RBCs and of course no one had to even think about the reason BEHIND that high amount of RBCs. Certainly it was NOT dehydration! It was a tumor of 10cm that was spread to the point where the specialist couldnt even tell in which organ it had started! I was charged $605.32. I took the cat in for vaccines and deworming. I decided to micro chip him.  I was told if the doctor needs to do anything I will get a call before hand which is fine. I signed the electronic pad as usual and left. When I picked up the cat who's name is Salem I got the bill which I needed to review when I got home because I called and asked what the approximate cost would be and told $85-$90.  When I was at the vet I told them I didn't want to do the wellness plan for the cat and they took it off. I was given a paper and they said this form is acknowledging that I am not getting the wellness plan and I signed for it.  Nothing was ever discussed about the bloodwork and the prices EVER! I was never told about the bloodwork or anything including the price. Then when the manager Rebecca calls she only calls when she is ready to leave work.  She said they called and spoke to my father telling him what went on. My father said a woman called and all she said was Salem is fine, he is 3 years old and can be picked up after 1:00 pm I had concerns about the cat and never spoke to the doctor even though I addressed my concerns. I was never called I don't know if the doctor is male or female or even know the doctors name.  My dog has a wellness plan and has been with you for years and his doctor is amazing and I trust him. I have never had an issue ever in all the years my dog has been there  I should not be charged for things I never knew about and want a refund. I am extremely upset and will never take my dog back and will be ending all ties to you.  I will also take to social media to let others know what you company has done. Great impression from first contact to check out. Stephanie was kind, informative, caring and she was able to schedule us immediately! This particular location has a dental Xray machine. Not all Banfield's do and my Chloe needed a second opinion and dental Xray for an abscess that hadn't resolved in three weeks. Dr. Shen has twenty years experience and he got right to the point. I felt confident in his ability to take care of Chloe. He patiently explained the procedure and went over the prices with me. I upgraded to the plus plan to include yearly cleaning. I left Chloe there and within a couple hours Dr. Shen called to tell me what they had found. They cleaned her teeth and extracted the tooth with the root abscess. Surgery was a success! I picked up Chloe along with her pain meds and antibiotics. The staff was very pleasant and I would gladly return to this location. I happily recommend them to anyone! I recently became a dog owner and came to this location for a nail trim and to learn more about taking care of my dog. I had a wonderful experience with the technicians. They were extremely knowledgeable and were able to answer all of my questions with ease (and trust me I asked A LOT since this was my first time at a vet's office). I was particularly impressed with how gentle they were with my pug, Olive. As is common with the breed, Olive gets anxious getting her nails trimmed. However, the technicians were patient and skilled, and were able to quickly get the job done. I am glad I was able to find a location with skilled and knowledgeable employees who clearly have a passion for their work. Terrible service. Dropped my dog off for a scheduled 9AM appointment and did not hear from anyone for more than half a day. Called to find out the status only to find out Banfield did not confirm their appointment with the specialist doctor. The next appointment wasn't available until 3 weeks later. I had called to follow up to see if they can find earlier appointment or put me on waitlist for cancellation. Was placed on hold for 45 minutes for them to "check" with the person making the schedule. I had to tend to something else and hung up thinking they we're still checking and will call me back... did not hear back at all. On the rescheduled appointment, again we were told to drop off 9am, we didn't hear anything either. Called and checked in and found out specialist was still not at the office yet/on his way and it was already 3:15PM. We waited and finally got a hold of someone at 4:25PM (called multiple times) and they had just wrapping things up. My dog was pretty much there all day, no food. I was told they took her out for the bathroom but was not clear how often within the duration she was there nor was she given water. Quite upsetting with the whole process and level of service with this facility. I would not recommend taking your pet here. read more

FRUSTRATING MORNING DROP-OFF! We scheduled an appointment in person and confirmed our appointment via text. On the day of the schedule appointment, my husband was turned away because he was not on the authorized list of people who can drop off our pet. He said that he has the same address, he was there at the time the appointment was made, and he is basically dropping off our pet which I had confirmed. The front desk said that this was a California LAW that they cannot accept pets for treatment if it was not on the list. They had him call me (which I was unable to pick up immediately) and he expressed that I may not pick up because I may be with a client. Eventually I called and had him added on the list. What was irritating was we weren't informed or given the option to added in case I was not the one dropping her off. Customer service SUCKS at this location! Also, it is NOT a California LAW, it is a Banfield POLICY. Please set your staff straight. After this appointment we will NOT be going to this location. I spoke to another Banfield location and they were more accommodating to answer my questions and explain to me the POLICY and exceptions may be granted and were more knowledgeable. Just horrible service at the front desk! TIP: Make sure you add all your people because your pet might be reject/denied for treatment or service. Because they don't tell you ahead of time! read more

In October of 2021 my dogs blood work had a few abnormalities. It was brush aside and they said he was fine. His check up 6 months later showed the same levels and again was ignored. Towards the end of May my dog grew sick with Diarrhea. I then switched to the Banfield in Orange. They then recognized my dogs sickness. July of 2022 my dog declined within weeks and we found out he had Cancer in his intestines. If Brea Banfield would have recognized these concerns from the beginning my dog could have had a fighting chance. It was too late. It took me months to write this because I'm still hurt. I hope no one else has to go through what I went through because of them. I will not be using Banfield when I do decide to have another pet. read more

I'm just going to let you guys know what happened and be the judge . The entire experience has been very frustrating and heartbreaking to me. The first time we visit the vet they gave us two type of medicine and cost $190 for (check up , examination fee , fluid fee, ) all the result came negative , after give our puppy one of the probiotic they give us, puppy look much worse and refuse to eat at all , the puppy would eat wet food before the visit , after the visit the puppy would eat anything. The next day we call and made another appointment with them and they took him in and did more testes( I asked them if they are necessary , Dr. Lin called me ask to do these testes but I don't understand why she didn't ran a test on parvo ) second visits cost us $460 . The most disappointing part is that she says if the puppy doesn't get better then we should take him to emergency room. I mean obviously, but that's why we came to you guys, I want him to be recovered before he hits critical condition. All in all, I took my puppy to this hospital and had 2 visits with $650 spent lead to critical condition of my puppy. I'm currently at emergency pet clinic writing this review , I'm not a dog expert but It seem to me that The more visit and more money I spend the worse my puppy got. I had pet insurance and was assured in the beginning of January that I could cancel and pay no more insurance because the Vet recommended putting my dog down. She was put down on January 18, 2022 and now they are telling me that I have to continue paying. I will close this card if this does not get blocked and taken care of. I do not owe them any money. I paid out of pocket to put her to sleep and they assured me I would pay NO MORE and could cancel insurance right away with no further payment. Monthly charge of approx $48.23 charged December 18, 2021. I am still contesting the charge on January 18, 2022 since she was put down on that day and the January 18, 2022 charge is for the month of February. They still want to charge me for a whole nother year even though my dog is DEAD, I did not use their insurance this year, and I paid in full to put my dog down due to vet recommendation. I grew up without pets. And to be honest, looking back, I never really asked for one because the few times I came in contact with animals, they always died very quickly. I had a traumatic experience with some goldfish which has left me leery of any kind of live fish to this day and I always thought having to take care of something other than myself was too much responsibility. But then my sister brought home a kitten. That changed everything. Technically, Skylar is supposed to be my sister's cat. But after she deposited it at home, she never looked at her again. So now, Skylar's my cat. And she holds my heart in her two paws because I absolutely love her. And seeing how much I adore her, I try to give her the best care possible. Out of all the Vets that I've been to, Banfield in Brea has provided the most consistent service. They staff is really friendly and very accommodating. The doctor there is also really nice and makes me feel entirely secure about leaving Skylar in her care. Although visits to the Vet can get pretty pricey, Tuesdays and Thursdays are Walk-In days where you can just come in and they'll waive the $30 standard visit fee. Also, since the hospital is located inside PetSmart, you can also get your pet shopping done before or after your visit. read more

Went here today after receiving a "free exam" flyer in the mail, so I though I'd give this place a shot. The receptionist was VERY friendly and helpful, and I would have given this place 1 more star because of it; however, the staff here were HORRIBLE. The nurse who was helping us was so incredibly stuck up and gave an attitude throughout the entire visit. This place is pricey, and when I asked if there was a cheaper medicine for my pet that I could buy in the store ( instead of the doctor's office), she gave me the rudest stare and said, " YOU CAN TRY AND GET OTHER ONES. I DONT KNOW IF THEY'RE AS EFFECTIVE. BUT YOU CAN TRY." how do you not know? Aren't you are a nurse? Didn't you study this in school? oh well..moving on. The whole time, she only talked about signing up for their VERY EXPENSIVE yearly & monthly "wellness plan". She didn't say much about my dog, what treatments i could use, etc. ALL she talked about was the wellness plan, and didn't seem to care the least bit about my dog's health. The doctor was okay, but seemed rushed and just wanted my dog to undergo more expensive tests for various things without really explaining much. I know pets are expensive, and I am DEFINITELY willing to shell out they money if necessary. HOWEVER, I think this place is just here to make profit and try to sell you as many things as they can think of. Bad customer service, bad prices..never coming here again. read more

Great experience here! I came here after finding out that they offer a free first visit. The people at the front desk, the nurse, the vet, and everyone else was so friendly and accommodating. Dr. Shen was my vet and he is absolutely wonderful! He was very warm and caring. He took the time to explain in great detail what was wrong with my dog instead of just giving me a diagnosis and walking out the door like a lot of vets do. Dr. Shen was also very straightforward about the cost of the tests that I should consider getting done for my dog, but wasn't pushy at all. The prices here seem very reasonable, at least compared to my old vet (who I left because I suspected he was ripping me off). I paid $500 for an xray for my dog 4 months ago at my old vets office and found out that they only charge $270 for the same thing here at Banfield! Great staff, great prices, and great hours - will definitely be back. read more
