I have brought my animals here for years and always had great experiences, even if the services are on the pricier side and they tend to encourage additional ones--because I've always trusted they're doing their best to help my pets. I'm grateful for my last visit because my cat is now recovering, but I feel compelled to warn future pet parents: bring headphones. The walls between the patient rooms and the back area are very thin, and I overheard staff making comments about what a "dumb" owner I must be for not catching my cat's ailment sooner. Already scared and worried for my cat, hearing those remarks only made me feel worse. It was stressful and unnecessary, especially at a time when pet owners are already feeling vulnerable and just trying to help their animals. I regret not addressing it with the vet tech, but I convinced myself I must have misheard. In hindsight, I realize I didn't want to confront anyone. That said, I understand how workplace chatter can sometimes cross a line--I've been there myself--but making unkind comments about anxious pet parents feels incredibly out of line. To the staff: please be mindful of what you say and where you say it. Clients may not always be perfect, but we're here because we care about our animals. Best decision I made was to start taking my dog to Dr Forbes at the Brea Veterinary Hospital. She spent considerable to time to diagnose the route of my dog's pain and several times phoned or messaged me with follow-up. Office staff and vet assistants are also very kind plus efficient people. Sadly, it became time to put my dog out of her pain and Dr Forbes was so kind and loving during the process. High recommendations; plus the facility is open 7 days a week. read more

Elderly Abuse: Consumer Beware: My 85 year old mom called this place after receiving a text message that her dog needed a Bordella shot. She called and asked how much they told her $17 so she makes an appointment. She comes back from the appt after paying $378 even. $68 for exam, $17.25 Bordella shot, $84.50 for fecal panel, $206.53 flea/heartworm meds 6 pack, $10.25 for 1 tablet of Trazodone, $11.12 for 4 tablets of Gabapetin. The tablets are for clipping his nails because he gets too upset. This veterinary establishment takes advantage of the elderly because they know they don't want to cause a fuss. I will go back to this place and return their ridiculous medication and tell them SHAME ON YOU! read more

Highly recommended! I regret that I did not take my cat to Brea Veterinary Hospital earlier. I set an appointment for palliative care information, as my former vet was not forthcoming with information or care. The Brea Vet Hospital personnel on the phone and at the desk were kind and sympathetic. My cat passed before the vet appointment, but Brea Vet Hospital took care of my cat, and the presentation of her remains and the paw print were beautifully wrapped, including a sympathy card signed by all personnel!. The staff were incredibly friendly & welcoming. I like the fact that it is within walking distance. The Veterinarian Julie Forbes insisted that BOTH sibling litter mate kittens get tested for the FIV/FeLV test that I requested for them. I KNOW very well that ONLY one kitten per litter needs to be tested. I knew better, yet consulted with a few other vets and they confirmed this is TRUE. However when I questioned why she wanted both litter mates to be tested, she gave an answer that was disingenuous. Furthermore, my kittens were already tested for worms, etc and Julie Forbes, DVM also wanted to order unnecessary tests that I had not even agreed to. I had to request for them to be omitted from the itemized schedule of fees. I left feeling so taken ADVANTAGED of which overshadowed the whole positive experience. This resulted in my decision to not establish medical care for all of my 3 kittens with this vet. read more

Can't say enough great things about this place. They were so so kind and made us feel so safe and took care of our Bonnie. We found our dog unresponsive yesterday morning and were in sheer panic when we walked thru the doors. The front staff was so quick and took her in and gave her all the care she needed. The doctor was very thorough and took all the right steps. They ended up referring us to an overnight vet for after hours for prolonged care for our pup. They never made us feel judged or anything to the fact that our pup got into something she shouldn't have had access too. So my husband and I have 3 dogs and 1 cat. We've had maybe a couple good experiences at different vets, we've tried around. But overall not good experiences. When you take your pet to a vet you know it's a big bill. We aren't questioning that or anything. But when we take them to a vet we want to feel like they care. When we took our dog for an ear hematoma I was super upset at myself. I let him play in the yard and came back to check on him. His ear was swelled. I didn't care for any of the vets around me that we had been too and I just wanted him to be okay. So I googled to just get my dog in at least because I wanted an appointment that day. Brea Vet fit him in, I called and explained and whoever I talked to seemed to know exactly what was going on with my pup. So my husband took him later that same day, because it was non emergency even though it definitely felt like an emergency lol. Anyways, they were just absolutely amazing. My husband took our dog so I could stay home without 10 month old because I really didn't know how long the wait would be. It wasn't long at all because my husband phoned me and the vet doctor got on the phone with me and told me every thing that was going on. I still haven't actually met them, the doctor, or the receptionist but I've talked to them all on the phone and they just seem to really care. My husband really felt comfortable with all of them. Unfortunetey we had to put our best friend and beloved dog to sleep today. We had never been to Brea Veterinary Hospital before as we moved into the area recently. During this extremely tough experience the staff was so sensitive and very delicate with us and sympathetic. We couldn't have been more appreciative. They didn't try and "sell" us on other medical options or medications as mentioned in some postings. We were gracious for that, but our dog was 14 years old too. I believe the Vet's name was Allison, but forgive me if I'm wrong as I had huge tears in my eyes. She sat on the floor with our boy and held him as he passed. She was just great. Can't say enough about how amazing this vet and staff are. My dog, Rocky, has been going there for about a year and we have always been impressed with their service. Yesterday we had a scary situation with our pup that required immediate care from the vet. The vet and her staff probably saved his life. They are so caring, on top of it, give honest and realistic information in a TIMELY manner and really make me feel like they care. Their prices are also very reasonable. I have been to other vets in the past and can honestly say I've never been to a place that genuinely takes care of my dog how I believe they would take care of their own. Beware: This hospital uses deceptive practices that can lead to unnecessary costs. I am a client here. Well, I was a client here. I am moving on to another hospital. My puppy had her last wellness check in January of 2024. Her bordetella and influenza shots were due this month (October). I received a text message with a link to make an appointment for her 2 shots. I showed up for the appointment this morning and asked the receptionist how much the shots were going to be? She told me $37 & $16. They asked me to bring my puppy in to the exam room and then a Vet Tech asked questions about diet & exercise. I was asked to wait for the Vet to see us. When the Vet came in she started asking more questions and I interrupted and asked if she was doing a wellness check? She said she was. I told her that I only wanted shots and had not agreed to a wellness check. I asked her if they were planning on charging me for the wellness check? She told me she would be right back and left the room. The Vet Tech came back and told me that my puppy's last wellness check was in January (9 months earlier). I asked the Vet Tech again if I was going to be charged for a wellness check and she said "yes". I asked how much and she told me "around $69". I told her I would bring my puppy back in January (1 year from the previous wellness check). I just need the 2 shots right now. She said that they will not give the shots unless my puppy has had a wellness check in the last 4 months. I feel this is a tactic used to get more money out of me. They did not tell me of the upsell when I made the appointment. They did not tell me of the upsell when I asked the receptionist how much the 2 shots were going to be. They did not tell me about the upsell or policy when they started the wellness check on my puppy. I just need 2 shots and not another wellness check. We walked out without the 2 shots that I made the appointment for. The funny thing is, they offered curbside service for the 2 shots when I made the appointment. Would they have insisted on doing a curbside wellness check as well? I became a client in August of 2023. I was charged $261.74 for the new client exam, heartworm antigen and a 6 pack of Simparica (flea medicine). I went back in January 2024 (5 months later) for Simparica and they charged me for an office visit, fecal panel, DHP shot & 1 month of Simparica. Total $219. They would only give me 1 month of flea medicine because my puppy was 1 pound over the prior dosage and they insisted she loses the 1 pound and they would give her the lower dosage. I was ok with that until I asked if they would charge me another office visit when I bring her back in 30 days. Of course the answer was "yes". They wanted to charge me another $69 to essentially have my dog stand on their scale. Time to move on.... read more

My poor pup got a foxtail in her ear and my regular vet was closed. Even though it was 5:30pm, Brea vet saw my dog right away and took care of her. Everyone was very nice and the prices were what I would expect for an emergency exam and treatment. Also, I'm very impressed that they moved so quickly and efficiently during the covid mess. Dr. Forbes was wonderful today with our cat, Teddy! Our cats anxiety and restlessness grows the longer he is in the room. On the previous visit, Teddy was very defiant and uncooperative when he was taken to the examination room and the vet tech was unable to perform the blood draw nor the de-worming medicine. For this visit, Dr. Forbes came up with a plan for my wife and I to wait in the car with Teddy and not bring him in the room until the Doctor was ready so we could make the visit as short as possible. On top of that, my wife and I stayed in the room this time to comfort Teddy in real time. It made all the difference, as Dr. Forbes was able to give the De-worming medication along with a shot to bring down our cats inflammation. Dr. Forbes is very kind, patient and understanding. My wife and I did not feel rushed at all, and the doctor was extremely thorough and listened to all of our concerns about our cat. She exceeds in her professionalism and care for animals read more

It hurts to write this review, but it's probably the most important review I will ever write. As a person, I loved our doctor. She seemed very compassionate and loving towards my cat, definitely different than any vet before. However, even after $1000 later in tests, rx food, meds, she failed to diagnose my cat with a fractured jaw/torn jaw ligament. He stopped eating due to pain in his mouth and it was obvious he was dehydrated and dropping weight fast, but not once (several vet visits) did she offer fluids or vitamins or even steroids.. pain meds? Anything! I felt unheard when I kept repeating he acts as if he's In pain. I was constantly met with the statement, "I see no reason for pain". I got a second opinion from a low cost vet who at least did give fluids etc, and that perked him up. But still, neither vet thought xrays were necessary. This past weekend his situation got worse than ever, so we took him to a (different) vet open on Sunday. This vet, also compassionate, but this time competent, was able to identify that his jaw was ever so slightly misaligned. We don't know how exactly, we have ideas, but bottom line- had this been discovered first hand, surgery could've been an option. I'm upset because I felt as though I was treated I didn't know my own cat I've had 10 years, and I felt financially taken advantage of because I was willing to do anything to help him. And I'm also upset because my cat is now gone. read more

I always get clear pricing, the ability to decline services, and I appreciate the follow up calls I receive days after treatment. Dr. Forbes help to identify some focal seizures that another vet was unable to diagnose for us a couple years prior and didn't immediately recommend costly treatments or tests which I appreciate. All about the money here. Spent several thousand and my pups problems still persisted. Went to banfield hospital and he's doing much better now than he ever did here. On top of how much I spent, Dr M kept pushing for expensive alternatives rather than affordable, insisting my dog needed the expensive stuff. Banfield(not promoting just sharing my experience) has offered way more affordable options all done in two office visits. Paid out of pocket here for numerous visits...Seems they just wanted us to keep returning/paying. If you MUST come here, ask for Dr Forbes. She is much kinder and less pushy/doesn't make you feel bad. Dr M is very pushy and makes you feel terrible if you can't afford what she recommends. How does this place still stay in business? All of the positive reviews must be from employees and their friends/family. My wife initially researched local veterinarians for our two dogs and spoke to the staff at Brea Vet Hospital. Just out the gate their prices were about 15-20% higher than the other vets in the surrounding area. The one thing that also bugged us was the "recommended" services offered in addition to the standard vaccinations. This goes along with the up selling that others here have complained about. As a pet owner and consumer, I'm open to hearing about these optional services, but I shouldn't guilted into paying for them if I decide against it. It would also help their PR if someone from this business addressed the negative Yelp reviews with some sort of proper feedback. read more

We had to put down our 17 1/2 year old Prince and the Brea Veterinary Hospital couldn't have been nicer or more sympathetic to our sweet dog or us. They allowed us as much time with Prince before, during, and after the procedure. Everyone there made a tragic situation more bearable and tended to our Prince and us with great care. After healing from this loss, if we decide to get another dog, this is where we will take him/her for their care. On a side note, within a week of our Prince passing, we received a sympathy card from the staff at Brea Veterinary Hospital that each person signed and personalized for our Prince. Took my dog Rylee to get an ear infection looked at yesterday, as my main Veterinarian couldn't fit us in. I have to say, I'm thoroughly unimpressed with the level of care that my dog DIDN'T receive. 1st, After accepting the $534 bill, one of which included a stool sample as they "Noticed some stool on her fur by her butt". They took the stool sample and literally sent my dog home with 3 big easily removeable pieces of s**t on her butt.. I was sick so I waited in my car during the whole appointment (which took and hour and a half), but while they noticed she had it, and were in the vicinity getting a sample, they literally worked around it, and were too lazy to clean her up before letting her jump in my car... luckily I have a seat cover so its not the end of the world, but its the principle.. What kind of Vet doesn't take the initiative there and lets a dog leave with s**t on her butt?.. That to me is just laziness and lack of care to let an animal leave with that. 2nd, she ended up leaving with some medications, and the doctors didn't even administer her first round of medication. literally charged me for the appointment $80, AND the exam $72, (why are there 2 charges?) the stool sample $78, a round of shots, and some over priced flea and tick meds just to leave s**t on her butt, and not administering her first round of medications or any attempt to clean her ear.. Why did I pay this much for the Vet to literally do nothing to help?... First a last time I will ever use this vet. My dog did not get cared for at all, and I expect when paying the $534 bill I did that my dog would be cared for, not just looked at, and sent back dirty (literally), and needing medicine.. read more

Update July 2019 - I've been buying prescription food and treats from Brea Veterinary for a long time for my dogs itchy skin and allergies. I've spent over $1,000 just on food in the last year or so. I ran out of my dogs food and I called on a Saturday to see if they had it in stock so I could pick it up. They said my dog was due for her annual exam and they could only give me 3 cans of food until I come in for the exam. I then told the staff that they are not my primary vet and I was only buying food from them and I would take my pup to my normal veterinarian for her yearly exam. The receptionist said she would ask the doctor. She came back and said they could not give me any food for my dog. I told them I've spent tons of money at their hospital every month for over a year. I asked if I could buy one or two cans of food to hold my dog over (we were completely out of food and I told them that) until I could get a new prescription from my regular vet. They said no. I explained to them I had nothing to feed my dog and she has food sensitivities so I didn't want to go buy something from the store. They didn't care and would not even sell me one measly can of food. This place has no morals and they truly do not care about the animals. They are about making money and up selling their patients. I will never step foot in this place again and I will let all my friends and family know they shouldn't either. If you want a vet that genuinely cares about your animals well being, please go elsewhere. The staff is nice and the vets are nice, but I've spent a lot of money here and I buy my dog the prescription food that the vet prescribed to me over a year ago. And it's not cheap! I've been loyal to the routine of the vet food and prescription treats and also shampoo! My dog is still itching and battling allergies. I won't bring her back in because they are expensive and it's a toss up if I'll even get to the bottom of the issue. Last time I had my pup seen they came in with an estimate of $600!!! "The vet recommends all of this" they seven after cutting a ton of stuff out I still paid $400. My dog is no better even after being on that treatment plan for over a year. read more
