5 STARS I love the knowledge of Dr. Maskalkova. The staff at Banfield is very good. It is easy to make an appointment even though a walk in visit at the last minute when it is needed. From the front desk to the vet assistant you can tell that they take care care and love dogs. I have a miniature schnauzer and Dr. Maskalkova is her primary. To be honest when I pick my personal doctors I do not follow the company, name, the clinic, the hospital etc. I follow the expertise, qualifications and experience of the doctor in this case the veterinary. So by saying that, I recommend Dr Hanna Maskalkova and by the way she is a doctor because she has a PHD.

Despite that info, your team made a strong case about selling prescription treatment and you admitted to me verbally that your technicians didn't communicate that and weren't well trained. 2. When the technician lady I spoke with yesterday kept on cutting me off and saying that I was the one who rejected the heartworm test because your hospital "always" does things right, yes I got frustrated. I told her I was going to hang up and that I would find another hospital because I didn't want to continue being talked over and gaslighted. In my perspective, a proper response from your team would have been "I am surprised to hear that wasn't relayed to you. There must have been a mistake." And not "Our hospital always asks the owner so it must have been you who rejected it" esp when she couldn't find any records 3. Lastly it is my bad for assuming that the technician was the doc's wife. I am truly sorry for that. Being Korean myself and supporting a lot of Korean establishments in NOVA, I see a lot of husband-wife businesses. That lady's demeanor said she didn't care about losing my business at all so I assumed she was related to the owner. I am sorry as it was a cultural misguided assumption. Since you say that you are hoping to improve, my sincere feedback for your hospital is below: 1.) Please take some time to improve on empathy and customer service. Take a moment to listen to the customer. Please refrain from being defensive, cutting people off, arguing back, etc. I have never in my 20+ years in NOVA have come across an establishment where I felt the communication was this difficult. 2.) Kindly take the time to talk with patients & train your technicians on products they are selling, on customer service, on promoting clear/transparent processes. Yes you treat animals. But you are the main communicators with those pets' owners. Does a doctor at the hospital only checks up on the patients and prescribes treatment? No - they talk with family members, clearly explaining and assuring of what they are going to do and train their nurses to best assist with the treatment. That is part of the job and is a huge part of patient care. I have a right to my experiences and to share my perspective as do you. Please don't accuse my experience as being slanderous and unfactual. Obviously there was a lot of miscommunication but maybe that in itself can be a starting place for you to reflect on how to best mitigate those problems in the future. I wish you and your business best of luck. ---- It's not worth the stress, people. Please don't be swayed by the prices & look elsewhere. Three main reasons why I'm taking my dog elsewhere - Unclear Practice/Process, Poor Communication, Aggressive Attitude toward customers. A couple of weeks ago, I brought my dog in for an annual checkup. He was having diarrhea but I wasn't too worried as it happens occasionally, but since my dog's annual checkup was due in a month or so, I thought why not bring him in early just to check? I relayed this as I checked my dog in. Then a headache ensued with their technicians trying to sell my husband this comprehensive treatment plan to my dog. I was so confused - how could there be a treatment plan when the results of the bloodwork wasn't even out? When I went to pick up my dog, I told the doc - I get all the other shots you're giving my dog, but "what's the difference between getting my dog prescription food vs. feeding him a bland diet for his diarrhea?" And the doc said, "you don't have to cook." ...I was baffled. There was a miscommunication, a large part of it was due to undertrained technicians which the doc admitted to, and yet he had a standoff with me for 30 minutes. Whatever, I just wanted to take my dog home. THEN, a couple weeks later today, I was ordering heartworm medicine through Chewy and they declined it. I call the hospital and this Korean lady whom I assumed to be his wife based on how she was asserting herself, tells me that my dog didn't get his annual heartworm test. I asked her why then didn't they tell me when I went in for a checkup and then she aggressively argued that she's sure that someone must have told me. She looked in my records, but there was no record of me saying I declined the heartworm test, because I didn't. Yelp-fam, I told you the facts. You decide if the headache is worth it. Prices are great. But if you're anything like me and want the absolute best care for my dog and be treated in a professional/kind way, then pay a bit extra to get care elsewhere. Walk away. Also, DM me your favorite vets in NOVA. Looking for a new one for my fur-best friend.

They billed $326 for Senior Canine Wellness blood work, $45 for the rabies vaccine, $50 for the 3-year canine distemper vaccine, $52 for Bordetella/parainfluenza oral vaccine, a $10 medical waste fee, and $99 for a senior exam (7 years old), for a total of $577. After looking into it, I found that their vaccines are about $10 more expensive than other animal hospitals, and the senior canine wellness blood work is about $100-$150 higher than average. Before going to this animal hospital, I recommend checking other places. I've been going to this clinic for several years and have done all exams and vaccinations there. Last year, it cost around $300, but now the prices have become extremely expensive. After doing some research following this visit, I found other places that are about $200 cheaper. Please do your research before going. Sully Animal Hospital charges excessively high fees for vaccinations, treatments, and diagnostic tests. They also charge a high price for senior canine wellness bloodwork, and on top of that, they bill separately for the senior exam and even add a medical waste fee.

They handled him with care and explained the exams and gave me transparent answers; which I appreciated. Their quick response is also nice and the staff seem all warm. The doctor was correct, and not soon after my dog did pass away. ------ Now my fur daughter is being seen by the same vet. It's hard for me to trust vets but she made me feel very comfortable. They never pushed unnecessary things upon me which I appreciate. It's also kind of luck that plays in and I'm glad I found a vet I can trust. The whole staff seems to genuinely care for animals and handle them with caution/care too.

When we lost our 11 1/2 year old cocker spaniel in 2013, I was less than impressed with our veterinary practice at the time, and their response. Honestly I feel no family is complete without a pet and for me it has to be a cocker spaniel We brought Bruno Bear Dog into our hearts in September 2013. He was a rolly ball of soft brown fur. There was no doubt we wanted him to be looked after by Caring Hands. At 10 weeks old, weighing maybe 8 pounds, he ate a mushroom in our yard. It was coming out of both ends, enough said. I rushed him to the Centerville office we had just begun working with. My husband and I were hugging this little limp rag of a thing and the staff were amazing. We have had 12 1/2 wonderful years with Bruno and Caring Hands consistently were part of Bruno's team, through the Pandemic and other events. Sadly and peacefully Bruno crossed to the Rainbow Bridge on March 31, 2026. Caring Hands helped us to care for him at home the last two months of his life. We miss him terribly. The team wrote us a lovely note after his death and yesterday I received a letter from the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine stating that Caring Hands has yymade a donation in Bruno's memory. Words can never express how we feel about this gesture. I know I've gone on a bit here, but I want you to know that if your pet is a loving member of your family, this is definitely the veterinary team for you Laurie W.

My dogs first boarding experience was two months ago. My husband and I had a travel delay in Paris, and were not going to be able to pick up our dog until the following day because our flight was rescheduled. I made an international call to inform them, however they said that he could not stay an extra night...thankfully my brother lives an hour + away was able to pick him up. This added another 2 hours of driving to our trip after traveling for over 24 hours. My brother also told me they originally brought out the wrong dog to him. After my dog was settled back home, I looked at the receipt and medical records. They were suppose to give him his influenza #2 of the series but it was documented as he received influenza #1. In shock since they had his medical and vaccine records, I called them and they said it was incorrectly documented, and they did credit us which I appreciated. His most recent visit is the most disturbing. Over the July 2nd weekend, with heat index over 100, my dog came home with the pads of his back paws burned. We noticed as soon as he got out of Pender a limp in his back legs. My husband went back inside to ask if he had any accidents or hurt himself, had they noticed him limping? The answer we got was that he got 5 walks a day and they didn't notice him limping once. Therefore I assume they didn't give him any attention or they just didn't care. When we got in the car, my husband looked at our dogs paws and immediately my dog pulled back his back legs and whimpered. The pictures don't do it justice, but it appears he was left out on the hot turf or pavement. It doesn't take long for the pads to burn from the heat of summer as most dog owners know & I never thought this would happen at a boarding facility. My dog is now limping, licking his burns and my husband has to take off work to take him to the vet. We wanted to love pender retreat as much as we love our vet at Pender Fairfax and the convenience of the retreat to the airport but after this we will be looking to board our dog elsewhere.

Our second dog was symptomatic a couple days after that. I contacted Pender and at first received a generic response wishing us well and an empty offer for us to keep them updated. When I did respond that the second dog was sick and it was upsetting that there was exposure that caused them both to be sick, I received a neutral response essentially explaining how contagious the illness was and the general manager shaking off any responsibility. I am beyond upset and disappointed that this is the response provided by a vet run facility. Our pets are our family and I expect them to be well taken care of while at Pender. We were never warned of any outbreak and they really didn't care when we alerted them. We are still struggling with sleepless nights as the dogs continue to wretch through recovery and Pender didn't even give the courtesy of a response when we expressed our situation. We acknowledged that things happen and no facility can prevent an outbreak but how they handled the situation was completely unacceptable. Fortunately northern Virginia has a lot of options when you need to board your pet. Please look to a place that will protect your pet and keep them safe, you won't be guaranteed that here.
