This place is a scam. My shi tzu has a heart condition which is common for this breed. Took him in and he was prescribed an antibiotic!! Of course had to buy from them. Cost a 100 dollars for an inappropriate medication! Took him to another vet and they prescribed the correct medication for the heart. This is not a rare condition, so this is clearly malpractice and incompetence. They are there to make money. Stay away. read more

My experiences here are super hit or miss. Some staff is excellent and some clearly hate their job and can be very abrasive. They do not remind you about vaccinations being due and didn't schedule my puppies follow up vaccinations after my last appointment which is super odd to me. I ended up forgetting when it was due and being late on it. I appreciate the affordability of banfield but when my puppy package expires I will be finding a vet with a more consistent team. I would give it 0 stars if I could. Dr Manzoor was unethical and totally neglected my cat. Not only did he not check her properly and sent her home (she had several infections and an exposed quick that was very painful), he also gave her a vaccine I DID NOT approve, want or need. On top of that, I only found out about it when I reviewed the invoice! I am still waiting for management to call me back. Left voicemails, called,... nothing. Clearly the problem is rampant at this practice where they do not care for the pets or the owners at all. Avoid going there at all costs! read more

5 STARS I love the knowledge of Dr. Maskalkova. The staff at Banfield is very good. It is easy to make an appointment even though a walk in visit at the last minute when it is needed. From the front desk to the vet assistant you can tell that they take care care and love dogs. I have a miniature schnauzer and Dr. Maskalkova is her primary. To be honest when I pick my personal doctors I do not follow the company, name, the clinic, the hospital etc. I follow the expertise, qualifications and experience of the doctor in this case the veterinary. I can't say anything good about this place. Our first appointment was great, but you can tell they all have a lot of disorganization with the front office and I am sure constant turnover does not help. Our first visit we received a prescription and went outside Banfield to have it filled. I had to call 6 times just to remind them to complete an approval request that the pharmacy sent over 2-3 times for the prescription they issued. After the 6th time (and almost a month and half later), the pharmacy called to say they finally received the approval and will ship the prescription. 6 months later, we had to do a refill approval. So instead of an outside source to fill it, I used the banfield shop. Can you believe we had the same issue again! But this time it was WAY worse. I called to let them know the request was pending for 2 weeks in Banfield Shop. The lady apologized and shared she sees the request in the system and would have the vet process the approval by the end of the day so it would be shipped. I get a call the next day, stating that my prescription was printed and I could pick up....so I call and share that the message left was to process the approval through banfield shop. She put me on hold, came back and said I needed to pay 125.00...keep in mind I already had a hold for 158 through the shop, it was just waiting approval to ship. So I decide, we must not be on the same page and I drive to speak with them. During the time of my call and getting to them, they charged me 125 for an office visit while I was on the phone (that did not happen) and a prescription that was not the one I had a on file...as I walk in, they pull up my account and they refund me the 125. I ask for a copy of the receipt for the charge that occurred as well as the refund. They print and hand me the receipt as another lady comes out to speak with me. So as she is explaining the others are in training I shoved in my purse the receipt given to me so I have record of the false visit. Before leaving they shared they will have the vet process the approval for the prescription refill they see in the system and they apologized for missing the request. I just got home and I see that they still have not processed the approval but I figured I would give it a day or I'll be calling again tomorrow. But what really frustrates me is I just looked at the receipt I was handed...and it's not my receipt. it's for a cat visit and I can share that these receipts have a lot of personal information including address, telephone number and email. So not only did they falsely charge me for a visit that did not occur, filled a prescription that was not issued by my vet within the company, and they handle personal information very carelessly. Believe the bad reviews people and don't give yourself a headache or risk your information being handed to the wrong people. Dr Thavamathi is incredibly inconsiderate and disrespectful. She fell behind in her schedule and unnecessarily kept my dog in a cage for 10 hours, when his procedure only took 1 hour. It is completely understandable that emergencies take precedence over routine procedures, but to not communicate that to me was unacceptable! I could have brought my dog home and brought him back later or on another day, rather than leave him in a cage for 10 hours unnecessarily! I am SO LIVID! read more

Erin, the front receptionist, saved my dog's life. My dog was very sick and there was no walk in appts. She went over and beyond and offered to call other Banfields as I had already tried 8 others to no avail. My dog was never this sick and I didn't know how urgent it was that he be seen that day. He hadn't had anything to drink or eat for 2 days and was vomiting and having diahrea. She secured an appt at FairLakes Banfield and I rushed my dog there in the nick of time and he was on IV for 5 hours, had multiple tests and X-rays and meds administered. We picked him up after 6 hours and he was much better and left with 8 different types of meds. That's how sick he was. So thankful to Erin! read more

We took our puppy to this place for an ear issue, he had an extremely bad ear infection. They took him away from us and they pulled out his ear hair and administered some meds in his ears. He was a 5 month old puppt with NO history of biting anyone (including his groomers), he bit the vet, and the vet told us to "take him to training classes" multiple times and on top of that, he called my dog a brat when I was holding him. Extremely rude and unprofessional, I DO NOT recommend this place. Edit: Also, my puppy was not experienced and he was scared, which triggered him to bite, it has nothing to do with training. He has never bitten anyone, they should have expected that from a puppy going to the vet for the first time. This visit has been horrible. I love my pets. Really. But they're animals. I used to go to local vet who charged through the nose for all kinds of recommended tests ($35 fecal floats? Every time I come in, for 2 indoor cats?) so I've turned to Banfield and their Optimum Wellness Plans. Basically you pay a monthly fee (there's 3-4 different levels that are roughly $20-35 per month) for free checkups whenever you want and yearly vaccinations. If you have a puppy or kitten, the plan includes a spay/neuter, and for older pets, it includes a dental cleaning (if you get one of the higher level plans). If your pet gets sick, you still have to pay for medication and non-routine tests, but it's at a discount. I have to admit - I probably don't take advantage of all the services that come with my plan even though their operating hours are VERY convenient - they're open until 7 p.m. and on Saturdays. As far as the care: the vets are fine. I get the feeling that they're not making as much money as they would if they were working at a private vet practice (I think of Banfield as like a vet HMO) but they're good enough for me. I'm not expecting, nor do I need, Dr. House for my pet. It's a good situation for a regular pet with regular needs. The facility is clean, the vet techs are nice and gentle - I have no complaints at all. PLEASE NOTE: If you're a new patient, you can ONLY sign up for an Optimum Wellness Plan when your pet is HEALTHY. If you go into Banfield with an issue - even something minor like runny stools - you will not have the option of getting the Wellness Plan until your pet is all better and you will pay the regular veterinary fee (which is comparable to any other vet). Here with my friend and her dog. It is good to see how this visit goes in an event I need to take my dog here. Her dog was here for shots and a comprehensive exam and the assistant told her, that her dog needed vaccines that she already had. Also, her dog had issues like allergies and other issues no one told her about. She was upset because apparently she has spent over $1000.00 and her dog had untreated issues discovered last visit and wasn't told. Apparently, she was suppose to take precautions before this visit and was not told therefore the $$ keeps stacking up outside of what the plan covers. I am a big fan of Banfield pet hospitals. By signing up and paying monthly fees of a variety of plans, my dogs can get almost free 2 yearly check ups and vaccinations. Also, with an upgrade, dental works are affordable as well. Banfield Pet Hospital in Chantilly has the best doctors, nurses, and staff! My dog had a variety of issues from behavioral problems to eating chocolates! I was able to get him all checked out because all staff are so helpful and willing to accommodate our needs. I have had a great experience here so far. We bought the one-year plan for our new little Coton de Tulear puppy. He got a little sick int he first couple weeks we got him while he was adjusting to the new environment, and they were great. We brought him in a couple times in the first week, and the vet was so nice. She called us multiple times to check on him to make sure the medicine was working well and to make sure he is okay. She even did a bunch of research on our dog breed (since it's a somewhat rare breed in the US, it's not well-known). So far our experience has been excellent, and I am happy I got the one-year plan. We priced checked other local vets and Banfield definitely takes care of the the basic puppy items (shots, neutering, etc) in the first year at the best price for this area, which happens to be more in line with what other vets, not in the DC-metro area, charge. read more

Dr. Maskalkova is the best! She has taken care of my two dogs for the past 4+ years. My 12 year old dog recently had a blockage. The first vet I saw, not Dr. M., sent me to Pender where they wanted an exorbitant amount of money to observe her overnight and do surgery to remove the blockage. We couldn't pay 5K+ (likely closer to 8K) for a 12 year old dog. Instead, Dr. M offered to come in on her day off to perform the surgery that saved our dog's life. We have always appreciated Dr. M's kindness and concern over our pets, but are now so incredibly grateful that she saved our dogs life! Jennifer, a vet nurse who typically works out of Greenbrier, is also great. She took such good care of my sweet Daisy who adored her. Highly recommend! read more

Please check out another Banfield location prior to going here! The 1 Star is for a couple of the doctors otherwise it would be none. Half of the staff is OK but the bad apples really stand out and make for an unpleasant experience. One desk staff in particular thinks she is a doctor and perceived herself as "know it all". Think twice before going particularly in dealing with Megan's arrogance at the front desk who couldn't read my file correctly online to know that I had refills available for my dog but was insistent that was not the case. Spent 15 minutes making up rules and policies rather than being able to read the file correctly. Dr called next morning to confirm Megan's error which very courteous. Spoke with office manager, Kate who made excuses for her giving out erroneous information and misstated policies. Individual lacked integrity and character to admit she was wrong and resorted to speaking untruths in saying I swore at her. Again, a true indication of her character. Will be going elsewhere all together because as previous reviewers have stated, the wellness plans cover minimum fees but they they are overpriced on meds. The meds can be gotten cheaper elsewhere like Walmart and Wegman's that even sells canine specific meds. Have been going there for 9+ yrs. but they no longer deserve my business or yours. This is a cautionary tale for those that take their pets to Banfield. My perfectly healthy dog Rex, went in on Oct 21, 2014 for his comprehensive Exam, which he was given a clean bill of health. I asked the vet about the 6 month product for Heartworm, which is ProHEart 6. She said that it was used there, and it was safe. I purposely asked whether it could be taken at the same time as other vaccinations, as Rex was having the bordatella vaccine as well. I was told it was fine. Rex galloped out to the back to have the vaccines done. Within 2 minutes, Rex was throwing up. Within 10 mins, they brought him back in the room and he was flat on the table. He was kept for observation for 5 hours, at which time they called to let me know he needed to be transferred to an emergency hospital. I drove him there, where myself and my children were told Rex was in liver failure and bleeding internally. A perfectly healthy dog ended up having to be put to sleep last night. Why? Due to a vaccination that has harmed countless other dogs. I did not have a great experience at this location a few weeks ago. New to the area, we did not have a regular vet . My cat was vomiting a little too regularly, so I took her up to Banfield to see if they could provide some insight. The receptionist took a ton of information from me, that accidentally got deleted and we had to start over - okay, no big deal, technology can fail us, but my cat is NOT happy in her carrier so I was hoping it would take the second time. She asked me how much my cat weighed, I guessed around 5 lbs. She wanted me to put her on the scale in her carrier, and proceeded to tell me she was 26 lbs...she's a kitten, but sure, let's just put that. I was sent into a room and did not have to wait long, which was nice, and a nurse took some notes on our situation. She never asked if my cat was an indoor or outdoor cat, and left her page of notes in the room when she went to go talk to the doctor. She came back with a list of tests the doctor said to run (having not even come in to see the cat!) that was upwards of $300. The nurse asked if I wanted to see the doctor...well, yes, that's the whole reason I'm here. Doctor comes in, I explain the whole situation again. She examines the cat (which I guess would never have happened if I didn't ask to see the doctor?), and wants to ADD two more treatments to the list, making my total almost $400. Without going into too much detail, I decided to have her give my cat two injections. I could hear her screaming from the room they left me in, and when she came back she said, "The shots are painful and they often burn cats pretty badly". Information I would have appreciated knowing before randomly agreeing to two of the 10 tests/treatments listed for me what seemed to be arbitrarily. I went to check out and was told I could come back for blood work in 72 hours if the injections didn't help. I asked if I would have to pay the $50 consultation fee again and I was told it would be reduced to $33, plus the costs of the tests. Hmm..ok. The packet they gave me upon leaving listed her overall assessment as "Needs Improvement" with a long list of areas that she appears to be normal (most of which were not examined), and then "Dental Issues" and "Gum Issues" under "There were some exam findings outside the normal range", neither of which did I see get examined OR were discussed with me. So, does my cat have problems in these areas or is this supposed to get me to pay for more treatments? I did get a follow up call, but unfortunately the injections didn't help. I ended up taking her to another vet, and she was dewormed prior to spending hundreds of dollars on blood work, and has been much better ever since. I'm sorry, Banfield! You seemed super convenient on paper, but did not meet my expectations. read more

I have used this, and only this, Banfield for the past two years. I originally made the switch in order to access the Optimal Wellness Plans which has saved me thousands of dollars compared to what I was paying at my private vet. This is because office visits are free and one of my dogs has had to make very frequent visits for a skin condition. About this Banfield. The staff, vet techs, and vets have always been very friendly and informative. I have never felt like I was being rushed in and rushed out of an appointment. Wait times have been reasonable. Obviously, last minute appointments and those on evenings and weekends will take longer than scheduled weekday appointments as these are prime hours and lots of people are picking up their pets who were dropped off in the morning for their routine visits. Both of my dogs have had surgical procedures and dental cleanings at this Banfield and I have been very pleased with the process and follow-up. This Banfield is ON TOP of reminders for appointments, check-ins the day following appointments, and reminders to set appointments for necessary shots and routine check-ups. The only con I can think of is that in the two years that I have been using this Banfield, they have filtered through three different vets. This doesn't particularly bother me because each time the vets have been very warm and competent. Plus, they remember my pets from visit to visit (as do the staff). Of course, we're frequent visitors but it still feels nice when they remember my pet's names. I'm in the process of moving and have been researching other Banfield locations. Given the reviews I've seen other places, this locations seems like a gem (which is what prompted me to write this review). Chantilly Banfield Pet Hospital has great customer service and a superb staff. They are organized and make making appointments a breeze over the phone. Although I have not yet experienced any major pet illnesses, I appreciate their professionalism and kindness that they share with my pet rabbits. It is difficult to find vets who have dealt with rabbits before, but Banfield has very knowledgeable veterinarians. When my rabbits were bunnies Banfield helped me clip their nails for a reasonable price and they always did a good job; close cuts. I took my bunnies to another place before this one and they made my babies bleed so Banfield helped restore my trust in vets. I fully recommend Banfield Chantilly to pet lovers. read more

My dog had bladder stones and I called frantic because I felt the condition was worsening and the Sterling location was booked up. I spoke with Dr. Sharma over the phone and he advised me to bring her in that day for surgery. The staff was extremely accommodating and friendly. Dr. Sharma and the other doctor (I forgot her name) put me at ease right away and were very knowledgable. I am so impressed. This "Veterinary" caused our family so much heartache, financial loss, and pain for our sweet dog by incompetent doctors. Our dog had a major surgery and the Vet didn't wrap the wound completely, told my husband it needed "air" and long story short we went back multiple times being told it was normal that he had a huge hole in his side. It was leaking and infected. After taking him back when it became even larger shortly after they stapled it instead of putting him under anesthesia and correcting the stitches. Staple came out within hours. We rushed him to another vet and they were shocked and felt so bad for our dog and the lack of care. They fit him in for emergency surgery and even gave us a significant discount because they felt bad. It was so messed up he has to have a drain again. If you have any procedures, I wouldn't go here. When I first got my dog 5 years ago I took him straight to banfield to sign him up for a vet since one of my co workers recommend banfield to me. To later find out my little sweet puppy who was not more than 6-7 months old got a shot that could've potentially hurt him rather than help. When I found this information out of course I was enrage cause I TRUSTED the doctors at banfield to make the BEST choice for my dogs health. The second time I went in I saw a female doctor whom I slightly trusted since she told me she didn't want to give him more than 1 shot cause he was still little and didn't want to over stress his body at once which I totally understood. but the male doctor I saw BEFORE AND AFTER the female doctor, didn't really seem to care about my dog and wanted to give him as many shots as he could at once so my dog docent have to come back in the next week. I believe dogs need to be taken care of as if it was a little child and I DONT believe giving any unnecessary shots for the $$ is a humanitarian thing to do. ESPECIALLY if your a VETERINARIAN. I don't mind paying for my dogs health I just don't want my dog to be given unnecessary things that can potentially hurt him down the road. read more

Please beware of this place. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone if it were the last place to go. Me and my family had an emergency for my poor dog, she was hiccuping and sounded like she was having trouble breathing so we decided to call and make an appointment to her normal banfield. They sadly weren't available. We then panicked and starting calling all of thr banfields in the area hoping one had time for a walk in, this location was the only one and when we arrived they took 20 min to see her. The male vet took her to the back and examined her and finally a huge relief we thought she'd be fine. He comes back (mind you she is still hiccuping and cannot stand up all the way without help) and says "she'll be fine she just has an ear infection" and forced us to believe that she was gonna be okay and that to just give her water as soon as we got home. He was not listening to a single thing we were telling him. She could not drink water, she was hiccuping, she couldn't stand up straight and once the appointment was over we were talked into paying for the useless medicine that she never used ($180) and by the time we got home we set her in her bed and 5 minutes later she had a seizure. We rushed her to the nearest hospital (a real animal hospital) and when they saw her we told her what had happened and they could not believe how uneducated and how use less a vet could be. She was there for about 4-5 hours and sadly she did not make it cause of the fact that we went in for help and we could not get it. If I would have known how much of a waste of time banfield was gonna be I would have taken her to a real animal hospital and maybe she would have still been with us. We later then called in and told them about our situation and all we got was a simple apology, we tried to return the medicine and they would not refund our money and said we should just donate the medicine. We then wanted to cancel her insurance which they said we also couldn't without waiting 2 more months (until December) so they want us to pay 3 months for a dog who isn't with us anymore? Which was also there fault. This place is a nightmare. They are uneducated and show the slightest of care for anything if there were something else I could do or someone else I could go to for this situation I definitely would. I have had Banfield Pet Insurance for 2 of my dogs for the last 10 years. On Saturday Nov 4,2017 I had to take one of my dogs for treatment for vomiting and after a whole day of blood work and Xrays I was told by the Vet on duty that the blood work was fine and Xray did not show anything of concern. I requested the insurance plan be changed to one that covered most of the $600.00 I had to pay. We were then referred to Life Center in Leesburg by the Vet at Banfield Chantilly, VA and during our visit there the Vet on duty looked at the same X'ray from Banfield Chantilly and noticed a stomach tumor that was supposedly leaking into the stomach and also some cancer detection . My Dog was euthanized the same day in the evening as we were told initially a surgery could be done but within an hour the story was changed to nothing could be done. I call Banfield Corporate and was told that I had to continue to pay on the new insurance even though my dog was dead mainly due to a faulty diagnosis by one of their Veterinary Doctors . . On checking with a Lawyer I am informed that I do not have to make payments for a service I would not be using as a result of a faulty diagnosis and subsequent euthanizing of my dear pet dog of 12 years . Think twice before enrolling in this Pet Insurance. . I am contemplating a Lawsuit soon. read more

All I will say is, Dr. Navdeep Sharma, and his wonderful staff are the reason we are coming back. Puffy is a rescued cat, and for this reason I was concerned he would be nervous at his first consultation here. Shannon (who was at the front desk), Antonio (Dr. Sharma's assistant), and everyone else made our experience a positive one. Dr. Sharma listened carefully to Puffy's symptoms and he was very caring (as well as everyone else). To know Puffy has a trustworthy doctor and hospital to go now, means the world to me. Rushed my baby there last week since he was extremely sick and was nicely impressed. I'm used to going to Banfield in Sterling but this location was very convenient, since it was close to work. They took great care of Buster who is now doing well. I was afraid of not having the same great experience I'm used to having at the Sterling location but I was at ease when I met w/ the vet. She and her staff were extremely nice, caring and supportive. I'm so thankful for having the chance of switching offices when most needed and will definitely be going back. I've always known that the plan we have is a wellness and not an insurance plan, however, it would be ideal if eventually Banfield adds insurance or more coverage. Friendly staff, efficient and caring doctors, very convenient hours and walk-ins are welcome. Add convenient location and you can't go wrong- we've trusted them with our beloved dog since she was a puppy and 3yrs. later they still take very good care of her whenever we need them. Facilities are clean and well-equipped; only aspect I cannot comment on is surgery/trauma that we, thankfully, haven't experienced. Follow-up calls on the next day of your visit are a nice bonus and make you feel like they care about you and your pet. read more

Let me share my story. I found a small lump on my dog, Hera's hip/thigh area. It was smaller than a marble and we decided to take her in and have it checked out just to be safe. They did a biopsy and sent it to a lab, and it came back as spindle cell sarcoma, which is a type of cancer that rarely spreads in dogs, but IS locally invasive. We scheduled a surgery where the removed the tumor - just the tumor (The specialist I took her to after said "They just did a scoop job"). Well, this type of tumor has roots, so they wanted to do a SECOND surgery. I believe they knowingly did this just to get paid twice, as the first surgery margins were so narrow, they could be quite confident the problem was still there. After a second surgery with a specialist else where, Hera is now cancer free. I would never bring another pet there - they are clearly only after your money. None of the vets had ever displayed any type of warmth towards my pet at all like at other vets. Its all business, and then "NEXT"! read more

Generally. For this location. They're friendly and they do well. However. For the actually billing portion. When you get the Wellness Plan. You NEVER know when they're going to charge you the amount. So they can royally screw you over. It can either be the first Thursday, or Friday. Or. Sometime between those to the next Friday. They're NEVER consistent. So if you don't have much in your account. For years we have taken our pets to Banfield in Chantilly. Although that may be changing because of a recent event. For the last 12-6 months we've been buying very expensive medications recommended for my Husky for a condition concerning her appendix. We bought all different kinds of foods trying to get her to eat, but nothing was working. When asked, they told us it was just because the dog was older and weight loss can happen more often than not. On Valentines day 2014, I got home from the airport to find my dog unable to move and covered in her own vomit. Once we rushed her to the emergency room, we learned she didn't have anything wrong with her appendix at all, that she actually had cancer. After putting her down, I called Banfield and our doctor was incredibly rude, lied about what she had original told us to cover herself up, interrupting me in every sentence, and didn't stop until I threatened to change my pets to another doctors office. This is the second problem I've had with banfield not doing their job correctly, and once my contract is done I will gladly be going someplace else. Costumer service at the front desk is great and all the doctors other than mine have come off very nice, but its not worth the risk anymore. read more
